There were significant cracks in the mortar of my brick chimney and loose mortar joints between the bricks. Since I plan on roofing my house soon, I wanted to get this masonry done prior to re roofing. Tom Payne was not the absolute lowest bidder (one higher, one lower) but seemed to have the most experience and checked out with the state Contractor's Board. (CCB # 154697). We had to postpone for a few days due to very hot weather but when we set a date and time, he was on time and on budget. They ground out all of the loose mortar, chipped off the old rain cap and cleaned up. Then, tuck pointed (re-mortared between bricks) and rebuilt the one piece mortar rain cap. Two guys, 3 hours, lots of set up of scaffolding, demolition, clean up, mixing & lifting of heavy mortar, resetting of bricks, buildup of mortar cap. Clean up and tear down. Materials were probably close to half of the $ 385 charge. I would recommend for this or a decorative brick job.
