Bacon cheese burger with side of mixed greens.
Denzel T.

I frequent Ben 'N Nick's often after my team's kickball games. This neighborhood bar offers up a casual pub vibe that is great if you're trying to grab a beer to catch up with a friend or watch a game. They've got a decent beer selection and can also make cocktails. Food wise, you're looking at a lot of bar food options, burgers, sandos, nachos etc. During my latest venture I grabbed a bacon cheeseburger and a side salad. The burger here is very solid. You can expect a well seasoned patty with a good helping of bacon (should you choose to shorten your life expectancy like myself). The side salad was also good. I've also been known to poach fries and onion rings from my friends and those are also great (their frying technique on their French fries adds some next level crispiness. The servers here are chill and attentive. I've never had a bad experience with the service. If you're in north Oakland and looking for a solid pub, I'd recommend Ben N Nick's!

The best!

Visited for the first time yesterday, and this place was amazing. Our server was incredibly attentive, friendly, and patient while we made our order. They had Pliny the Elder on tap, and the food was outstanding. As a first-time customer, I had a great experience. This pub rocks! The service and attentiveness were the best I've experienced in a long time. Thank you! By the way, the food was so good. The cheeseburger and grilled cheese were both amazing. I actually found this place on DoorDash, and I'm already tempted to order from them again because it was that good. I don't make post often, so this was worth it!

Espresso martini time!!!

Watched the love island season finale last night there.. it was so much fun. The falafel plate is vegan without the dill sauce and feta. Super delicious. The quinoa is my favorite part. Espresso martini for me and the girls for the win!

Nachos, no meat, extra jalapenos

We had soooooo many options in this neighborhood, but finally when the hunger got too overwhelming, we were standing outside Ben 'N Nick's. A decent selection for both men and The Wife. She ordered quesadillas, while I got nachos, no meat but extra jalapenos. She was quite happy with her quesadillas, but I was over the moon with my nachos. Real cheese, not "sauce." Enough cheese to reach almost every chip. Plenty of toppings, but it never got soggy. Portion size was just right. Heavens, I'm practically drooling just writing this. Plus, they've recently expanded their happy hours to include weekends. We needed to point that out to our server, since it just happened. So our two entrees were heavily discounted, as was my beer and Irish whisky shot. Quite a deal.

Great bar! Great pub vibe. Decent enough food options. They have trivia nights and great rotating drafts. Three large TV's for amusement if people watching isn't for you. Easy walk from Rockridge BART. I love this place.

Service is cool. The staff is friendly. Cheeseburgers were good. Cocktails were good. The copper tables are a nice touch. The one restroom is clean. The bill came out to about 80$ for two. A bit pricey and portion a little small, but overall experience was good.

Delicious Bacon cheeseburger and fries with SideTrack Mead's Jamaica mead

I've been in quite a few times for lunch and to grab drinks with friends. The atmosphere is always vibrant and busy in the evenings. Perfect place to watch the game. Food comes out quick even for how crowded it can be. I usually grab the Buffalo chicken sandwich, chicken club, or the burger which are all always delicious! The fries are addicting, crispy, and hot. Was really excited to see mead there this last visit! The jamaica by SideTrack was super tasty for warm day, I even got a second glass! Will be back for sure!

Cowboy Chili

Our party of 8 got here around 9pm. We were welcomed inside and brought to a booth that was able to accommodate our party. They got an extra chair for us in case we needed it which was very nice of them. The inside looks like your standard pub with a few tables, a full bar with all the essentials, and the vast amount of wall decorations. At the table, you can find all your utensils and condiments. My partner and I shared the Philly Cheesesteak and the Cowboy Chili. The philly cheesesteak comes with fries and you can ask for hot peppers in the sandwich or just on the side. The chili does not come with beans and it's served in a cup or bowl depending on the size you prefer. Both of them tasted good and were decently sized, satisfying both me and my partner. The staff was very friendly and the place was well-lit! I also saw that they host Trivia Nights on Tuesday, so be on the lookout for that if you're in the area that day!

From the very beginning, the customer service was lacking. Before finalizing my event, I visited the venue in person to ask questions and get a better understanding of the space. The Hispanic male employee I interacted with was unfriendly, unapproachable, and unable or unwilling to answer even basic questions, repeatedly telling me to contact sales. While I understand that sales handles bookings, I expected someone who works at the venue to be able to provide some level of assistance or information. Unfortunately, his attitude remained the same during the event. Several things that had been requested were not set up as discussed, and the overall atmosphere felt unwelcoming. What upset me most was that some of my guests arrived carrying water bottles, and this employee openly told me, in front of my guests, that he would kick us out if he sees outside drinks again. I found this incredibly embarrassing, unprofessional, and completely inappropriate. The experience became so uncomfortable that many of my guests left early. For what was supposed to be a special occasion, the service and treatment we received fell far below expectations. Considering the amount spent, I expected professionalism, hospitality, and a welcoming environment. Unfortunately, we received the opposite. I would not host another event here, nor would I recommend this venue to others looking for a place to celebrate an important occasion.

The inside has a nice modern look and there is a lounge to the side open for happy hour. We sat in there which has its own bar. It is very cozy. My husband ordered a Caesar salad and I ordered the French Onion soup with a bacon grilled cheese. Our waiter started off well but when he came to get our orders he didn't write anything down and I had to repeat myself twice. The first time he was facing my husband, the second he came to my side and I pointed at the menu while slowly repeating my order. I simply wanted a grilled cheese with bacon added no avocado as it is advertised as an add on, on the menu. As he walked away a part of me knew my order was going to be messed up. Low and behold my soup arrives with a side of bacon. I then explained again what I ordered. A few moments pass and he comes back and then my husband explains what I wanted. I'm not sure if it was a language barrier but it just didn't seem to register. I truly did not think asking for soup & bacon grilled cheese would be so difficult. By this time my husband had already received his salad which was delicious. Finally, he comes back with my soup, a grilled cheese and the bacon ON THE SIDE. If I ordered a bacon grilled cheese why would you give me like this? Why not make my grilled cheese and add the bacon inside? To make matters worse the French onion soup was so bland not even salt could save it. It tasted like a nothingness broth. The grilled cheese was better once I made it myself. The waiter never came back to check on us. The manager hovered by for a while but we had to even flag him down for the check. I left hungry and got a meal at the airport. Would not recommend. If you can't remember an order as a waiter please just write it down.

I had a friend visiting Berkeley from out of town so we came here to hang out and catch up. One thing that stood out to me is this place, because it's a taproom and not a brewery, is open later than the other beer places in the East Bay. Many choices of beer and cider on tap. I tried the ginger peppercorn cider and it was very unique, I've never had a cider like this flavor, it's almost like a cross between ginger beer and cider. My friends enjoyed various beers on tap. The place is pretty small but very clean and cute. I like that you can choose from 10 oz or 16 oz pour, so people like me can try more varieties in smaller portion than just drinking one boring thing. I like variety. The all you can eat popcorn was a hit with our little group. The truffle flavor really elevates the popcorn and it goes well with beer!
