-We wanted to have a work happy hour here for a party of about 15 people and I saw on their website that you need to make a reservation for larger parties. I made a reservation on yelp for 5 people (the maximum yelp will allow) since they weren't open for me to call and give our accurate number. -I called the day before our event and spoke with someone over the phone. I gave my name and the updated amount of people and he said we were all set. I received two confirmation emails for my reservation. -I received a phone call the day of my reservation asking for me to confirm (again) and a text. The text said to either confirm by calling or texting that number. I confirmed through text pretty immediately. -4 of us arrived at 3:30pm, the place was locked and closed. I called the number that called me earlier and no one picked up. When someone did answer, he said they would send someone over to help us. Someone from the cannabis spot came over and told me that I didn't confirm and that they were closed. After me being adamant that I did confirm, he reluctantly opened the doors. It was dead silent in there, the guy seemed irritated with us and then told us they would only have beers and shots. We left and had our happy hour at Honor Bar and they accomodated us and treated us like we weren't a nuisance. -All in all, it was a bad experience and the staff (at least the one person who talked to us) seemed annoyed by our presence and appeared to want me to be apologetic for their mistake. We wanted to go here today on Sunday, February 1. We called and we were told they'd open at 4 PM. But when we showed up at 430 they were closed. We called again and the answering service told us that sorry we're closed today. The website says they're open at 230pm. Now at Momentum Billards in Oakland that is open. Absolutely the worst experience I've had at any bar or restaurant. The staff here could not have been less friendly, and the manager was downright rude. Our server openly made fun of our group and even told us we weren't welcome to watch the playoff baseball game because it wasn't "their" home team--completely unprofessional and uncalled for. We ordered drinks and waited for 20 minutes before the server came back just to ask if we still wanted them. Over an hour later, our drinks still hadn't arrived. When we asked again, she admitted she'd forgotten about them but still didn't bring them. At no point did anyone apologize or try to make things right. We also ordered a burger that was absolutely not worth the $20 price tag--bland, overcooked, and just as disappointing as the service. Between the hostility, the rudeness, and the awful food and service, this place deserves zero stars. Save your time, money, and dignity and go literally anywhere else. read more

The pool is cheap, that's a good thing. $15 an hour. No live sports on the TV's the girl working said she would try but they have direct TV with no subscription. Had the burger, mediocre at best. Went out had a cigarette out side and the security guard from the Canabis club next door ran me off said I couldn't smoke anywhere on the block and said he worked at the pool hall and the club. Nobody on the street anywhere. Better places to go. Probably won't be back. No wonder the place is empty. Have to add to this... ordered a second round of drinks... they came back 20 min later and asked us if we still wanted it. Wtf They did finally get the game on, took an hour. Then we were reminded we had 5 min left do we want another hour of pool. This is a great place for billiards, but I would not go here for the food or drink. The food is significantly overpriced ($20 for wings) and the beer tasted like the keg lines needed to be cleaned. But they have a bunch of nice billiards tables and plenty of TVs for distraction. Friendly bartender as well, though not the best. read more

This was my first time ever at this location. My coworker and I come in and the vibes is popping we look at the menu and order our drinks and food we get are pool balls and head over to table eight. We play three rounds we eat talk dance the ladies at the bar are so cool and come and check to make sure we good. We will for sure be back from now on. If I could give zero stars, I would. This place is an absolute joke -- from the rude staff to the garbage food to the completely backward "policies," it's hard to say what was worst. We asked to put on a playoff baseball game -- not some obscure channel, not a special request -- just the PLAYOFFS. They refused because the home team wasn't playing. Seriously? That's your criteria for turning on a game in a bar? Clueless. The food was straight-up awful. Like gas station microwave-tier. Nothing had flavor, and it somehow managed to be both soggy and burnt. And don't bother ordering drinks -- ours never came. We asked about them 30 minutes later and were met with a blank stare and a "do you still want them?" Unreal. And just when we thought the experience couldn't get more irritating, one of the staff came over to warn us that if we were still standing at the table when the clock hit our hour mark -- even just wrapping up the last few shots -- they'd charge us for another full hour. Not a warning, not a heads-up -- just a threat. It's like they're trying to run customers off. This place has zero customer service, zero hospitality, and clearly zero clue how to run a business. Ripped off and it sucks. Also, I contacted management of this business through their website and they never replied or tried to correct this fraud I detail below. Charged me $100, but bill should have been less than $50. Then wouldn't give me an itemized receipt and would only give me $20 back after complaining. Here is what happened... I looked online at their happy hour so I knew prices before going. When I got there I asked about the hour of pool and pitcher for $25 Happy Hour. I was told "as I quoted the happy hour I could get it." We got a portion of fries and played for one more hour and got two extra pints. Again HH clearly says $10 for an hour of pool and $4 for pints. Got rung up and over the loud music didn't catch the bill. Add my tip and get my receipt and it came to over $100!! Told server there was a mistake. She said I didn't mention HH and that was why she didn't give it me. I said let's reverse it and do it over with an itemized bill. She went to get the other person working there. The other person working there said she would call the manager and over the phone the manager said they only authorized me $20 back. She said that the amount should have been $68 not the 88 they charged me. I told her that still wasn't correct. At this point even though I was still being over charged I bounced as it had become weird and dodgy and I didn't want to argue to get money back. Atrocious. Not anywhere did they have HH prices out. They had the menu by the register. Unless you quote that you want HH prices they charge full amounts. That's not how it works. Anyway: Pool and Pitcher: $25 Hour of pool on top: $10 Two extra pints: $8 Fries: Guessing $5 Comes to $47 With tax and tip bit more. With $20 back still not close to what you owe me. Won't be back. It was my first time yesterday and I mainly wanted to play pool. I LOVE the upkeep of the tables, balls, and cue sticks. They were so clean and easy to use that I will come back to play again. I have been to other pool halls in SF that do not have the same care for their equipment or their things. I felt like I was at my favorite pool hall in LA again. My Sunday billiards brunch was stunned. They're out of fish and chips. Back to the menu. Okay, Cheeseburger and Waffle Fries. Side of housemate Chili? Joe, the steady Sunday bartender suggested chili on everything. It was a massive plate. I paced myself and enjoyed every bite. The chili with ground chuck and green chilies was spicy with just the right kick. I thoroughly was happy. Joe, who's been there ten years, told me it was his last day. I have been to this place before briefly but didn't get to experience the full thing. I was shopping on Bay Street and went to 3- THREE- places to get some dinner and a drink. I was turned away by two because bar seating was not open and the third because legit the bartender said he was to busy to take my order. I have seen posts of the food here on IG thought I would try it. To my surprise (I was solo) I was warmly greeted and asked if I could sit at the bar to eat. The very lovely girl said to have a seat and offered the QR code or a paper menu. She did let me know it was pay as you go; which is understandable as it IS a pool spot (I don't play pool). I was greeted by a lovely bartender who told me that they could do beer, wine or shots as their cocktail menu was in process. I had a very long day so I ordered a beer and a shot. I was scrolling through the menu and the bartender (Candace) told me her favorite which was the "Passion Platter". I'm low carb and that is right up my ally. I paid and she served my drinks. She did suggest a nice tequila for the shot which was tasty and I had a Drakes Pilsner. I relaxed while watching a couple sports channels as I love sports. My food came and it was FANTASTIC. Let me say; I am snobby when it comes to food and it was perfect. Perfect flavor, presentation and portion. My only opinion on this place - I am in the hospitality industry- is the pricing is way to high. I paid $20 for my plate (see picture) and $10 for a shot. I would say $13-14 for the plate is okay and $7 for a shot; or a shot and beer combo price. $39 plus tip for a plate, beer and a shot. Yes, could have gone elsewhere! The service reeled me in and the food and experience as a solo diner led me to this review! If you like pool and good food, drinks and service go here. Hopefully prices are high because they just opened. I would hope they price out the area. It's also a bid misleading that this place is called "The Rack" but on yelp it's called "Cafe Rack" there is nothing cafe about it. Service, food and music is A+++. read more

I was there with a friend a couple days ago, we were playing pool and then one of the workers approached to us asking if we wanted to play another hour, we said yes, and she said that in order to play another hour we had to order food, not even a drink, food! And I said that we weren't hungry and just wanted to play pool, she said that the "policy" does not allow you to play for more than an hour if you don't order something to eat. I was like "ok, what is this? a restaurant? No! this is a Pool Hall and people come here to PLAY POOL, not to EAT, if I wanted to eat, I would've gone to a restaurant!" Really love the place but they have a new policy that doesn't make sense. That policy is that reservations are an hour and can only be extended if more food and drink is ordered. I understand if it was busy that this policy might make sense. It was enforced when only 3-4 tables were in use and plenty of tables were open. We were not allowed to play another hour. It's their right to do this of course. It feels odd to me that when they aren't busy they choose to not let us pay the fee for the table though without additional food and bev. Not sure I understand why no revenue was better than $15 from us for the next hour when it's not preventing other people from playing. If you're looking for a sad and empty place with incredibly bad lighting and horrible alcohol and food options then you have found the right place! I've only ever been here three other times, though I have lived in the neighborhood for 12 years. We were celebrating one of my best friends 50th birthday at Honor restaurant, then came to play pool even though it was dead at what should have been rush-hour. Out of nowhere the manager kicked us out in the most dramatic and unsubstantiated way. My friend was in the bathroom and when he came out the security guard was waiting for him. The manager was disrespectful and talked to me like a toddler,even though I'm a 45-year-old adult. He seemed both confrontational yet also dismissive if that makes sense, it was so weird. He ruined our entire evening. I do wanna mention that his employees were kind and on point and understanding and probably just doing his bidding. Literally never again will I go to that establishment and I will let my neighbors and friends know as well. I'm not even quite sure how they stay in business just based on the amount of people I see playing pool when I drive-by. Awesome deal of $18 a pool table per hour on a Saturday night. On weekdays, it is $16. Their craft beer selection was solid as well. They have a special deal of probst blue ribbon and a well shot for $5 which is of good value. I'm starting to love how much cheaper it is in the East Bay. Our parking was easy and right in front of the place. Late night munchies satisfied while playing pool. Waffle fries had high value for the portions. They stacked the green onions, cheese and bacon bits on it. Garlic fries were lacking garlic. Whiskey batter onion rings were good. Fish tacos only came with two, which was not enough for us to share. Pool is great activity when you're looking for something to do at night, and they'll play different sports like the Giants game or MMA fight. read more

When I lived in the East Bay I spent an unfathomable number of hours playing pool here, and since moving back to NYC, I miss The Broken Rack sooo much. This has to be one of the best pool halls in the country, honestly. It is better than your average, run-of-the-mill pool joint in basically every way. For example: -It's bright and airy, as opposed to being a dingy subterranean cave -The tables are regulation size and well-maintained -The house cues are straight and all have decent tips on them -It is clean and smells fresh, not like spilled beer and smokers -The food and drinks are high quality and reasonably priced (I was a big fan of the tuna melt, and you can get nice greens instead of fries) -The staff and patrons are super friendly, not elitist pool snobs -There are cool beginner-friendly open tournaments pretty regularly And, most of all, the pool rates here are totally reasonable (and do not increase by the person after 2 people), which enabled us to come frequently and practice a lot without feeling guilty about it. (Unlike my current situation where I have a hard time justifying the cost of playing for a couple hours at Amsterdam in NYC- see "dingy subterranean cave, above"- even during off-peak times.) The people who have given The Broken Rack its current 3.5-star rating are clearly spoiled California brats who don't know how good they have it!! This place is the literal best. read more
