A great big triple-scoop Yelp thank you to fellow Elite '22, Alana M. for posting her pics of Ben Scoops! If it wasn't for Alana's pics, I wouldn't have known about this shop as soon as I did. What is so special about this place is that it is the ONLY SoCal retailer to serve Mitchell's ice cream, which is a legacy family business based in San Francisco. Having spent 7 years living there (late 90s to early 00s), I had my share (and more) of their yummy goodness at their Mission District shop on San Jose Avenue. Mitchell's is known for their myriad of delectable flavors, as well as tropical flavors such as cantaloupe, ube (Filipino purple yam), avocado and halo-halo (Filipino dessert - 'party in a cup'). Mitchell's is so good and such an integral part of the city's fabric that you can count on there being a sizeable queue outside the store even on a chilly/foggy, 50-degree weather SF evening. Customers will be bundled up in their warm hoodies/beanies/boots while enjoying ice cream...how very San Francisco! Hubs and I have made regular trips up to the Bay Area over the past few years and Mitchell's is always a 'must stop' on our to-do list. On our last trip a few months ago in August, we were primarily in the San Jose area BUT made it a point to drive an hour up to SF since it has been a few years since the last time we had a taste of Mitchell's (thanks to COVID). All this for ice cream you might ask??? We have always joked about if it was possible to somehow bring home a tub or two of their ice cream or even have it shipped. Sadly, per their website, they do not ship...anywhere. They do, however, offer DoorDash and UberEats or store pick-up for those in the local area. Flash forward to NOW, October 2022, we can now get Mitchell's (yes, it's the bonafide real thing) and it's only a 25-mile drive (as opposed to a 400-mile drive) away in the city of Carson. Ben Scoops is the cozy and cute ice cream shop that is owned by Ben, who we had the chance to meet and chat with during our impromptu visit. He gave us a brief history on how his brick and mortar location came to fruition and how it's doing after a month of being open. It's refreshing to hear from business owners such as Ben, who shared not only his challenges and struggles but also his hopes and dreams for the future. A few things to keep in mind: Plenty of parking. The storefront is a bit hidden behind other shops in the plaza, look for the eye-catching signs in the parking lot. You can order single, double and triple scoops as well as pre-packed pints/quarts/half-gallons (yes, we got a half-gallon of avocado! in addition to two doubles haha!). 10-12 flavors freshly scooped at any given time, not the 30+ flavors like at the SF store. Samples galore...=) Kind, personal and enthusiastic customer service, just like how ice cream shops should be! Definitely check this place out if you're in the mood for quality ice cream and service with a smile! Another business added to our South Bay Eats list! Thanks to Ben, you now can taste the world famous Mitchell's Ice Cream of San Francisco in Carson. After more than 10 years of asking the owner to allow Ben to sell Mitchell's in the LA area, the owner finally gave him the green light. Along with the more exotic Filipino ice cream flavors such as ube, halo-halo, macapuno, mango, avocado, and jackfruit, you will find other of his American favorites such as a crowd pleasing vanilla or rocky road. Some flavors will sell out such as Mitchell's coffee ice cream. Just opened one month ago, I don't think the word has spread yet that you can now get your Mitchell's Ice Cream fix in Carson. I've been going to this ice cream establishment several times now and every time I go there, I order different flavors-and each one does not disappoint. My favorite flavor is Kalamansi and mango sherbet-- absolutely delicious and flavorful! The service is excellent and the place is very clean. The only drawback to this place is that it's hidden; it's located at the very corner of a number of businesses. If it was more exposed at some other location, their business would be booming. I spent half of the day detailing my wife's car. It was a hot say so I packed up the family and went to Bens scoop. I had seen this place last week when we went to Back home in Lahaina. There is plenty of parking and the actual store is in the very middle of the building complex. The ice cream was amazing and the selection if flavors was right up my alley. I got the red sorbet in a cup. The Ice cream is legit. The texture screams high quality and the serving size was fair. My kids and wife got macapuno, ube, and I believe rocky road. I tried them all and they tasted like it was a notch or two above the competition. I will get the wife to come back and pick us up some more ice cream after work. Saw this place on TikTok and immediately wanted to come to try their Halo Halo ice cream. As soon as I walked in Meg greeted me and my family with a big smile. Her customer service was AMAZING! She let us sample the flavors we wanted and showed us a combo of pumpkin and banana that tasted exactly like the Starbucks pumpkin loaf. OH MY GOSH, I might have just found my new ice cream spot! Love this place! Location is okay, took me a while to find it since it's hidden in the corner. Delicious ice cream flavors! If you love Filipino ice cream flavors, definitely try this place. They offer samples and all of the flavors are good but my favorite are the mango and avocado. They have single and double scoops. They also offer their ice cream in pints/quarts/gallons. Great hole in the wall place to get your ice cream fixing! I was looking for some dessert after kbbq dinner, and this shop popped up. It's 5 stars for a reason! They have quality ice cream, a great variety of flavors and the owner was super nice and accommodating! I tried a few flavors, including macapuno (coconut), espresso toffee chip and green tea. They were all so good! Full of real flavor and ingredients like coconut pulp, espresso beans, and real matcha flavor. I ended up choosing coconut and green tea in a single scoop. For anyone looking for the place, pull into the parking lot and you'll find the shop tucked in the far back center of the shopping plaza, in between the two pillars. They also have a sign attached to the pillar, so if you see the sign, go on in. I think because the shop is so new and tucked away, they don't have a lot of foot traffic. I hope more people find this place, because it really is a great mom & pop type vibe with really good ice cream. They really do deserve community support! read more

I adore this place and am so happy to have it nearby. We've been twice since it opened. Ben is the nicest and always very welcoming, generous with the samples, and patient while we make the very hard decision of what flavors to get. I like that there are Filipino flavors, as well as "regular" ones like rocky road and peanut butter etc, and seasonal ones. My favorites are mango and pistachio and my bf loves the macapuno. You really can't go wrong with any of them. We'll be back to try them all! read more

Never had avocado ice cream so I just went straight into that seasonal goodness . The mango ice cream sources mangos straight from the Philippines adding that extra level of goodness. My gf didn't want dairy and opted for the mango / raspberry sorbet . She ate it all up lol. Overall this local spot is a hit , I can't wait to see what flavors he brings out for summer. read more

What else can be said about this place? It's delicious. I mean that sincerely. We were looking for an ice cream shop near our home in Carson and found this place on yelp. Saw that they have ube and mango ice cream and there were other filipino ice cream flavors too so we went to try. We got ube, mango, grasshopper pie(mint choco), marble fudge and their new flavor which is coconut pineapple and ALL OF IT WERE SOOOO GOOD! The mango ice cream tastes like the one i eat in the Philippines -- Sweet mangoes!! Their ube is good too, not too sweet and really tastes like Ube. Their coconut pineapple is A MUST TRY! We enjoyed going here and Kuya, who i think is also the owner, was so nice to us and the service was amazing! :) they do have seats inside and outside which is also great. Will sure be back here and definitely recommend this ice cream place to my friends and family. read more

The girl working was very nice, she noticed it was our first time there and gave us the general overview. There weren't many flavors but the ones they have are really good. There's a gorgeous mural on the wall which contributes to the overall good vibes. It's tucked back in a corner a little but the parking isn't too bad. I had the matcha crème brûlée crepe and my friends had the strawberry matcha crepes and the yuzu crepes - all delicious and surprisingly not too heavy! I had to go back when I saw that they added fresh mochi ice cream to their menu, and these did not disappoint either. Fortunately for them but unfortunately for us, they'd gone viral at that point so we waited about 30+ minutes but they do text when your order is ready. We went to Nijiya in the meantime (within the same strip mall). We got the matcha, strawberry condensed milk, and kinako ones and they were - again - ALL delicious! I love that they're all paired with their own fillings that complement the flavors. This is a very tiny shop so beware of peak hours (weekends, evenings). Other than that, HIGHLY recommend if you're looking for amazing dessert!

This place has been pretty popular on social media, and being a local I've heard it through friends…read moreas well. I figured I'd stop by to treat myself after passing an exam of mine. Gotta celebrate the small and big wins everyone!! Anyways the place is SMALL. One little bench inside and a high top table with 2 bar stool like chairs. Otherwise no seating. You order on an iPad inside and they have a display case in the window of what you would be ordering. The display obviously doesn't exactly match what you get. I ordered a strawberry with vanilla ice cream crepe. You can see in the photo that one of the strawberry pieces was already browning in the middle. Not cute lol. The crepe was thin and chewy, pretty good, but not mind blowing. The chocolate syrup was rich, a little overpowering in my opinion. It was a little of a wait, there was a single person working and making the crepes. I'd recommend going to millet crepe instead for this style of dessert. No restrooms, parking is free in the plaza. A lot of store signs that look the same so read carefully.
