My sons lovely hair before the cut, just needed it shorter on the sides and back.
    Chloe G.

I am so, so disappointed. I went in because I loved the photos and reviews. I have a son who's under 2 years old and was due for a cut. We were the only ones in the shop that day. I asked the barber to cut the sides and back shorter, but to please leave the length and curls on top. He said "oh, a boys cut like a number (blahblah) on the sides and a number (blahblah) on the top looks good." I don't know what that means because I'm a mother with long hair, so I stressed that I love the curls and wanted to keep them please. Please keep the length on the top. I even showed him a photo of what I mean. He proceeded to cut my son's hair completely short, with no room to fix it or keep any length. I could not believe it. I was speechless. Now I'm waiting for it to grow out. It has been one month and we're still not at the length I wanted. This place gets two stars instead of one because the barber was nice and good with my son. Please don't go here if you don't want a basic "boy's cut". It's not worth the money I saved. I'm so sorry I switched hairdressers trying to save money. :(

    Carlos, owner and barber!

It was hard finding a local barber shop that I would take a chance on. Most others charge up to $30 for a fade and that to me is robbery. So came here and saw great reviews and decided to give it a shot. It's best to make appointments rather than just walk in. If you do, you will get helped pretty quickly. There's only one guy, Carlos, that cuts here. He has plenty of seating for waiting customers if you want to take a chance and drop in. His hair cuts go for $15 dollar which I think is fair. Just make sure you give him detailed explanation of what you want.

The cuts are good and consistent. $35 for a cut, I walk in every time and am out after 45 minutes. Real quality neighborhood joint.

More importantly, I needed someone who could handle Asian-textured hair, which many barbers struggle with. Enter Kei. He's meticulous, quick to understand what you want, and genuinely invested in both your immediate goals and long-term vision for your hair. He was also open about where my hair needed more growth before making cuts so I knew what areas would still be a challenge afterwards. Bring photos of your cuts you've loved. Kei uses them to dial in your style with precision. The bonus? The setting itself. You're sitting in a vintage Kochs Chicago barber chair that swivels toward their original hair wash stations, all housed in a historic 1920s building steps from the Eastern Columbia bldg in DTLA's Historic Core. The place has legitimate old-school character. Highly recommend. Book ahead.

I have a fairly simple understanding of hairstyles and proper hair maintenance. The barber Javin asked me questions about my usual hairstyle and went through suggestions regarding trimming technique. Ultimately, I went with low fade with and a touch up on the top. He mentioned my two hair whorls and overall head shape provided some considerations on what he thought would look natural, which I appreciated. In the end, the fade was perfect. I'd been getting the same high fade for a decade and wanted to try the longer wave thing everyone's doing. The first barber I asked for it butchered it, mostly because he'd never done a long cut in his life. Gianni took one look, diagnosed what was actually going on up there, and got me to a halfway cut. A couple months later, the cut grew in as he planned and he took me from 80 to 100%, right in time for my vow renewal. His profile calls him the brushback king and I couldn't agree more. Fair warning: he's meticulous, so plan on real time in the chair. You get what you pay for! Also book ahead. At least a month, in my experience. Gianni's popular and I've never once seen anyone get off the waitlist. The shop itself is worth the trip on its own. Great furniture, plants everywhere, and a back patio you can sit on if you're early or just want to hang. Vibes and the place is always clean. Their systems are top notch too. Plenty of notice before your appointment, everything organized, they offer you a drink when you sit down, and they use good products from the wash through the styling. The host is always so nice, everyone there is personable, and the music's great. One heads up: no parking lot. Street parking can be iffy if you catch a bad day, but there's usually at least one spot within a block. Go see Gianni!

Mid way he asked a second time if I had ever had this hair cut before which I answered yes. Also at the beginning he had mentioned how much are we taking off the top. I mentioned just a little bit and we can work our way down. When it came to cutting the top I feel he had gone too low. At that point I just wanted to get out of the chair. I waited 2 days to post this just to see if my hair needed to settle in since I went from a wild lions mane to what ever this short hair cut I have now. But no matter how much I attempt to style my hair it just looks dumb. My feedback to Hin is if you aren't confident in cutting someone's hair then please just say so. I may come back to try with someone else to cut my hair since I feel the people here have some skill.
