It's $15 for a regular cut, which is unheard of (at least in my experience) in the Culver-Westside area, and on top, as I mentioned, he's GREAT at what he does. I've gotten better haircuts here than I ever have during my 4 years at UCLA paying $20 per haircut (IN THE VILLAGE, NO I'M NOT FOOLISH ENOUGH TO GO TO CAMPUS CUT$) Drop-ins are Sunday Monday Tuesday, and appts. on Thursday Friday Saturday - closed on Wednesday. It's pretty easy to get an appt. if you call in the morning on an appt. day - also no extra charge! I've always been confused when places charge more for an appt. and I'm like ok this sucks. You can walk in on an appt. day occasionally and Carlos may be able to squeeze you in, but no guarantees! I've done a drop in on an appt. day and waited around 45 minutes for a haircut, but I wouldn't be surprised if he hadn't had time - he has plenty of customers~ read more

There used to be an excellent barber on the corner of Berryman and Washington Blvd, but he got bought out years ago. I was stoked to come across Excel Cuts. The place is always clean and comfortable, with the array of mens magazines you expect to find in a barber shop. There's a big screen TV to watch if you are so inclined while you get your hair cut. The barber is conversant in English and Spanish, and comes across as friendly and welcoming no matter who you are. And the prices are great with quick, efficient service. I'm asian and have the typical short hair cut. #1 on the sides, fade to the top, keep it clean *BAM* , nice and sweet. Sounds easy right? NOPE! i've been all over the places, every chain place (supercuts / fantastic sams) can't get it right. They get everyone else good, but me. Why? Cause short, coarse hair is unforgiving to mistakes. I walked in here from the streets when i moved there in 2004. It was a risk, but a theory that i learned and used well. I figured, this guy cut hispanic hair like mine all the time, he's still in business, he's got to be good. He got it right the first time and I've been going there ever since. Sure at first it was a bit intimidating, he's not the most friendliest person in the world, but it's really good and really convenient for me because he takes appointments (thurs - sat) and I get in and out. He's off on Weds and on Sun - Tues, walk-ins only. By the way, he's CHEAP! $12 on walkin's, $15 for appts. I used to pay $17 easy. So i tip him $3 and he's been really nice to me and we got a great thing goin. This is a "Barbershop" as it gets. No hairwashing, no coloring, but a great straight up haircut. Parking is meters only, but not usually tough to find. BTW, his place is spotless clean all the time. Takes pride in his work. First and only barber I found over here in Culver City when I moved down six months ago. There is a reason why I haven't been anywhere else: Carlos's price point cannot be beat. For $20 (including tip) you can get a great fade, line up, and fast service. + there is usually many metered parking spots available in front of his store (does not take card so bring quarters) Honestly, do yourself a favor and just get cut here. Very good Barber. Works efficiently and really cares about doing a good job. As others have mentioned, he definitely takes pride in his work and understands any typical cut. He takes appointments on certain days and always has walk-ins. Have been to several other places in Culver City and have easily paid anywhere from 20-50% more for guys who can't cut half as well and who could care less about the quality of their cuts. Big screen TV is right in front of the chair and almost always on the biggest game of the day. Place is designed really well too with sports and movie memorabilia all over the walls and shelves - almost like the barber's own man cave. Will continue to come here for sure. read more

When I explained my desired cut, he understood perfectly and delivered on my request - in less than 15 minutes. The price was extremely reasonable. Just got a quick haircut today from Carlos. He is indeed a great barber and his skills are sharp! I used to go to the Supercuts down the way but had one too many bad haircuts. Carlos is the man! He keeps a clean shop, which is also air-conditioned for your comfort. Big TV that always has sports on. Does a good job, takes his time when required. Can't beat the price either. Just got my haircut from Carlos for the first time and extremely happy with the experience and the results. I called ahead to confirm he had time for me (Thu-Sat he takes reservations) and luckily he was free. He patiently asked me exactly how I liked my haircut, whether I use any product, and paused halfway through to get my feedback on how he was doing. I hate having to interrupt barbers while they're doing their job so this was a very welcome step. A few people came in during my session and you can just tell Carlos is a neighborhood staple in the way he greets others and they greet him. Very happy to have found this spot (he's been in Culver City 22 years!) and will definitely be coming back. His shop offers the basics in comfort while you wait with a large flat screen showing on going sporting events. He has three days for appointments and three days of just taking walk ins. Decided to check it out after seeing all the good reviews but I went in on two occasions during a week day around 3-4 pm and there were both busy with about 2-3 people waiting ahead. Don't like the place as there is only ONE chair and I'm imagining just ONE barber from how they mention one Carlos guy. When I walked in on both times, the first time- the guy looked angry as if me going in just delays his time of leaving, just didn't seem friendly in welcoming a new client so I left. Decided to try again later in the week and this time the guy didn't bother looking up or welcoming me, seems like he just his group of family and friends that he's cool with and then to the new people doesn't seem to treat them the same? I was a walk-in at Carlos's place one afternoon. No one else was there at the time, so he saw me immediately. He was very nice, and he cut my hair in a very meticulous and attentive manner. It only cost $15, parking was easy to find, and I had absolutely no complaints. Just bear in mind that payment is cash only. This barbershop is definitely a Hidden Gem and to be honest, I think it's one of the best things I found here in Culver City. First of all, there's so much character when you walk into this barber shop! The barber definitely has made this place very homey and there are sports paraphernalia all over the walls. He make sure to position his big screen TV right in front of the barbershop chair so it's really easy to be entertained while he's cutting your hair. He takes a lot of pride in the way that he cuts your hair. Asks you exactly how you like it and is able to deliver! I also really enjoy the fact that he is very on time and schedules appointments. I think the price is also extremely reasonable. I don't think that I found a haircut place as affordable and it's high-quality as this place.
