Wow. I honestly can't believe how this diner could have any reviews that aren't 1 star. From the minute I walked in I was so put off by the vibe of this place which I can really only describe as being...weird. And slightly creepy. We were greeted by someone who shoved menus at us, barely saying a word, so we assumed that we should just sit wherever... Our server was nice, but a nice server isn't enough to save this place. My coffee had grinds floating in it. The napkin dispenser had a crazy layer of dirt on it. As soon as they started cooking our meals there was an off putting spell. We got our breakfast and after taking one bite of the Taylor ham (which I had to spit out into my napkin), my appetite was completely gone and I had no desire to eat anymore of my meal. All I wanted to do was pay and get out ASAP. To anyone reading this--there are SO many better diners in New Jersey. Literally hundreds of them. Please go somewhere else! I'd be scared to see what the kitchen/back of the diner looks like after my experience here. read more

I have seen this place for years but today IHOP was really packed. As I walked in, I was scared about the grime. My eyes were right. The picture I have says it all. Didn't even dare to ask for juice. Hard to find this diamond in the rough but once you get there you won't be disappointed. Classic diner food in an old fashioned, iconic setting. You'll feel like you just took a trip back in time. This a nice place.The bathrooms are like a sauna.it is dirty.i actually don't like it a lot.The food is good but high in calories.

Took forever to give an order. Then waited over half an hour for breakfast to arrive. Place was not busy. Plenty of empty tables. Half of the empty tables were still filled with dirty dishes and such. Sugar dispenser and utensils were sticky. The bathroom was a disgrace. The food was average. Solid. Bendix has been a staple in Hasbrouck Heights for decades and the patrons that frequent Bendix's know it will not disappoint. The food is delicious and carefully crafted to NJ diner perfection. Decor is what you would expect for a diner. I like that they've maintained the original look and haven't updated it to give it a new look like they have done in many diners in NJ. I had the eggs benedict while I was there and ate every scrumptious bite. I've heard good things about the corned beef hash as well. Seasoning was nice, portion was very generous, loved the hollandaise sauce. What would I have liked done differently? A little less ham or a thinner piece would have been a little more preferable. Otherwise the staff is nice, and the price is reasonable. Downside to Bendix? The size-you'll definitely need to wait if it's crowded as there won't be enough seating to accommodate a large amount of people. read more

This is a unique place that needs a lot of work. Old school NJ diner right on rt. 17. Had breakfast here. Eggs, sausage, home fries and rye toast were all good. Hard to screw a breakfast like that up. Now the bad..... The place is in dire need of an overhaul. Signage out front has letters out/off in the name of diner. Sitting down at counter one can't help to notice the disorganization and garbage/clutter on the shelves, counter tops and storage areas behind the front counter. You will see things such as old receipts rubber banded or stapled together with coffee or water stains on them, an old alarm clock, a persons hat and other miscellaneous garbage/clutter. Also noticed the roof is leaking (raining when I visited) in both the main diner area and area when first walk in. If this is the sitution in the front of building, can't image what shape the back kitchen is in. Either the current owners need to invest in the place and clean it up from head to toe or sell the place to someone who will. read more

While I loved the Truckers special - one has to be ready for a huge feast. My go-to at all diners in Jersey is the Taylor ham egg and cheese on a hard roll and these guys nail it! Stop in, you will love it!!! read more

40 years ago it was half decent, nowadays just plain awful, the waiter/cook was smoking while working, no gloves on, he took my order and I watched him prepare my lunch from a counter seat, smoking all the while. A cheeseburger deluxe , standard as standard gets, well not here; the meat was grayish and cooked well on half and very rare on the other..broken grill ? the ''bun'' a large, seeded one was very stale and fell apart with each bite attempt, the fries were the same , some well done, others almost raw. the lettuce was browning, the tomato was green and sour, the raw onion had a slime on it, the tiny cup of cole slaw was disgusting, I love slaw, this was made over a week prior. it was warm out 85 or so, no air conditioning, the coke glass had lip marks on it, when I told the burly cook-waiter he threw me a straw! I get this platter at Meadowlands often $6.95 everything is top grade, plus you get onion rings on the fries, got my bill and it was $8.50 for the deluxe burger, and $1.50 for the coke I left on the counter...$10 for crap. I tossed the guy $11 ( a 30 cent tip) and drove off saying never again, he followed me out the door saying something about my being a cheap mother_______! I waved 1 finger goodbye as I departed for the last time, the creepy fact is I can see the diner from my upstairs window. uggghhhh read more

Okay, this place gets five stars for a couple reasons. It is not the shiny, new diners you'll find further north on 17 and/or 4. It is however, a real classic. Food is very reasonable, tasty and portions are large. Do not expect the fancy cakes and cookies here...but, expect a good meal that will fill you up. The regulars at the counter are entertaining and the owners seem to really care about your needs. This is going to be my regular breakfast diner from now on.... read more

Headed to the Jet game at MetLife and stumbled across this place. Attempted IHOP at first but long lines turned us away. Walked in here and was so happy to see an old school diner, bar seat style in front of the grill and everything. We ordered steak and eggs and a cheese and egg omelet with a side of bacon. The steak was fantastic, grilled perfectly and the omelet was amazing as well. Great service all around. Would definitely come back and I highly recommend, price was cheap as well. read more

I don't understand the 5 star reviews. Are you kidding me?? The place is disgustingly dirty. I mean, I understand the whole dive diner thing... This is beyond that. This is just grime. The clientele is a little scary. The food is horrible. They served me rotten, stale butter with my waffles. I slathered it on my waffles, not tasting it before-hand (who would?) and I ended up with putrid butter atop stale, freezer burned waffles. Disgusting. I would never go back. read more

I live very close to Bendix and take the family there about once a month. it's a neighborhood staple with a throwback feel to the 60's. Located right ON route 17 easy to get to at any time of the day. For starters this is NOT a fancy or even pretty breakfast place. This does not mean it is not clean and appealing. we come here to eat a big ol' family breakfast with REAL sausages nice n' plump not the Joneses type you get at other Diners, the eggs are always cooked perfect in over easy, medium or scrambles. the bacon is tasty and not too greasy and the fries are always crispy. If you are starving, they offer a Truckers Special with Eggs, side of meat, pancakes and toast as well. The host Eva is super pleasant and very loving to everyone. The Chef Julio is always on point and you will always get was you ask for. Will continue visiting this place for these reasons. read more

Though, this place is typically known as a Truck Driver's pit stop to eat and rest, it's also a great and cozy diner for the general population. The staff are friendly and courteous. What left an impression was that after our 3rd visit, the staff knew what we wanted to order and how we liked it cooked. This place not only serves a hearty and plentiful breakfast for a great price, the burgers; specifically the pizza burger is good. Hard to find a good tasting pizza burger nowadays among the many diners in NJ. I have to say breakfast is the best. You get what you pay for and then some. Frequented Bendix Diner a lot with my loved one which will always hold a special place in my heart. You know what is said; a man's heart is through his stomach, well so is a a woman's heart as well. Love good food and good diners. The only downfall are the selection of desserts. Hence the 4-star rating. Good for a quick stop. Good for truckers on the go. The menus were sticky and gross. Food was meh. My French toast was undercooked inside. The hand dryer in the women's restroom was cold. Not a lot of workers, but I did like it that the chef brought my food to me. I wouldn't go back. There are better diners. read more

Bendix is hands down the best diner in the Tri State Area. Authentic, cheap, lots of chrome and amazing pancakes. THIS IS WHAT A DINER SHOULD BE. The food is typical for a greasy diner, life sustaining grease. Pancakes that rival iHop in quality, crispy bacon that they give you in excess when you ask, huge sandwiches and monster thick diner burgers. Bendix is open all night and always full of characters. I have gotten to know John D. the Blind Waiter everyone is so fascinated by when they come here for the first time, John is a fabulous guy and his family owns the place. those who wrote Reviews where they seem to pity him you should take note that he has literally memorized the entire Diner and is better at his job than most servers who can see! he is the best diner guy ever in the best diner ever. Ok, I have to admit, that I was a little concerned when we walked in, because the place looked a bit .... like it could use a cleaning. Then, as we were looking over the menu, I happened to look at Yelp and saw the only review, a one-star panning. We ordered lunch - and dang, it was good. Best pancakes I've ever had, seriously. We were starving so we made the pit stop and across the board trying all of my friends meals everyone was impressed. Can personally recommend the truckers breakfast... it was enormous too. We had a range of their triple decker sandwiches also which were just as good.
