    Beautiful decor

This was a lovely find! I was in MP for an appointment and decided to grab lunch while there. It's in a strip mall looking complex and it didn't get my hopes up walking up to the location. However the indoors is a different story-- very elegant and beautifully decorated. The chairs were so comfy! Now the real deal, food: Ordered chilli chicken, gongura masala dosa, and chettinad chicken dosa-- I enjoyed everything but my favorite was gongura dosa. It did not even need any masala, so good as is. Chutneys and sambhar were good too but nothing special. Filter coffee was good. There's a lot more on the menu that I'd love to try- next time!

    Mango Lassi

I was a bit frustrated because there was a table of people close to where I was sitting who were obnoxiously loud. Also, I ordered a mango lassi and when it came out it wasn't even full in the cup. If you aren't going to fill the plastic cup up completely you might as well switch to a smaller cup... I told a waiter that it wasn't full and a woman who seemed like a manager came back to tell me that there was nothing wrong with it and that was the size. I know how the restaurant industry works and I think it's frustrating when people try to argue against a customer just so they can be "right". Moving past the less-than-ideal customer service, the mango lassi itself is decent, it has a distinct taste of cardamom. I ordered a goat dosa. The dosa was good but too spicy for my liking (I have a high spice tolerance). The gajar halwa was my favorite part of the meal. It had some dried rose petals and cashews on top. Very good. Overall food seems authentic but the customer service has room for improvement.

I wish I could give this place 10 stars. I also wish it was down the street from me instead of a 35 min drive. The dosa was incredible! I really liked the ginger chutney, I think it may have had carrot in it as well. The idli was quite bouncy and excellent as a sauce vehicle. The lentil soup went really well with it as did the ginger chutney. Also incredible was the butter chicken which was so tender and so savory and delicious. I regret not getting a second order to go for when the cravings hit. The saag paneer was great but not as mouth watering as the butter chicken. The place itself is in a strip mall with parking in front but the turnoff from the road is easy to miss. There's steeet parking nearby too. You order via QR code and the food comes out quite quickly. We came on a Saturday at lunch and it was not busy but they had many takeout orders. A mix of modern and artistic inside. Would be a good spot for a date, family dinner or friends get together, as long as you come hungry.

Unassuming no-frills restaurant with amazing authentic Indian food and exceptional service. They offer a selection of dosas like paper, plain khara. They're freshly made and delicious. We also ordered idlis which come with coconut chutney. Their chai is yummy. The goat biryani and the sukha goat is exceptional. Loved all the dishes we ordered. The service is fast and staff are pleasant.

This restaurant is the perfect combination of typical South Indian vegetarian and North Indian food. We ordered the dahi vada which had a delectable topping of yogurt, tamarind sauce, and almond flakes. Highly recommend as an appetizer to start with. The paneer tikka sizzler was also delicious and came on a bed of vegetable: broccoli, kale, mushrooms, onions. I have never seen paneer tikka come with this many vegetables so I was pleasantly surprised, not to mention the taste was wonderful. We also ordered butter chicken that had the perfect amount of spice, not too creamy and not too mild. Chicken was tender. Rave dosa and Kal dosa were also delicious and came with three types of chutneys. Highly recommend the mango lassi and rose milk as well as the carrot Halwa for dessert. Other than the food, the restaurant was beautifully decorated, had ample seating, and service was fantastic. The host kept checking in on whether we needed anything, and service was 5 stars. I will definitely be returning!

Ordered for pickup on DoorDash since they don't answer the phone and there's only like 3 tables in the restaurant. The food is really good tho. The dosa is overpriced to me $16! The butter chicken and palak paneer were good. I would come here again for pickup because the space is very small.

Let me preface this by saying I do NOT like dosa. I've had a lot of dosa over the years and just haven't grown to enjoy it. That being said, DOSA POINT HAS THE BEST DOSA I'VE EVER TASTED. I crave it. I'm soothed by it. It's a flavor explosion in my mouth. I adore it. It adores me. Everyone here is super nice, and the inside is incredibly clean.

OMG! Amazing food and love the ambiance. This place is such a hidden gem in Menlo Park. Can't wait to go back!

Samosa good but wish they didn't cut it face down cause the filling falls out after a few minutes
    Lisa H.

Pretty cute neighborhood Indian eatery - very casual - and very sparse in decoration/ambience. I went for lunch and got the samosas which are little heavier on the dough to filling ratio = prefer a thinner dough with more filling and would definitely request them to not cut them in half prior to serving. They get colder quicker this way and if you don't immediately turn them filling side up - the filling will fall out if you leave them for more than a few minutes before eating them....awkward lol Uttapam was ok but the dosas at the table next to me looked so much more compelling - huge crispy folded over crepe = the sambal served was the smallest serving I've ever seen at a dosa place and you get two of the same chutneys coconut I believe and then on tomato one... If you are in the area - definitely worth checking out

This is my go to place for dosa! I love their masala dosa and I get it every time. Their medu vada and any of their biryanis are also amazing. They remodeled the inside since the last time I was here and it looks great. Service is also always great.

I tried their paneer and mushroom Biryani again, and at this point I have one more important comment- the paneer / mushroom in the Biryani is too less, I really feel they need to improve here. At some point, it feels like you're eating just flavored rice.. Honestly, given the price of this Biryani compared to other Bay Area awesome Biryani restaurants, they need to buckle up!

My husband's favorite was the sesame leaf as it was a blend of mango, yogurt, and chaat on a crispy sesame leaf. I particularly liked the kale chutney and the pani puri. My husband said the lamb loin was tough in some areas because of the cut. The menu was confusing as it labeled "g" as in containing gluten instead of "gf" for gluten-free as most menus do. Our server was highly attentive and for every dish, he would let our friend with a gluten allergy know if she could have it our not. The drinks feel heavy-handed and I enjoyed the Dawa (vodka, lime, honey, and demarara) the most. The Kokam and Smoke ( sweet water, mezcal, and orange) felt as smokey as a forest fire to me but other friends who enjoy a good smokey flavor liked it. The atmosphere of the restaurant feels like a nice summer night and we enjoyed the mezzanine.

It is one of the best salads I've ever had, and it's visually stunning. All the textures of each item complement each other, and it was such a delicious, refreshing dish among all the other rich, heavier dishes. The drinks here are pre-batched, which I dislike because I can't have certain alcohols, so I couldn't order the drink I wanted from their current seasonal menu. I did order a mezcal cocktail, and it was very strong, smoky, and had beautiful ice that said "Ettan". The fried chicken was very good, and I loved the dip that came with it. I would have preferred the chicken tikka in smaller pieces, but it was also very good with some of their homemade butter in the center that was delicious. The chicken was small and came with only a few pieces, given the amount of sauce. I would have either had the sauce in a small pouring container on the side, like the curry accompanying the black cod, or used a different dish because there was so much more sauce than the chicken. The entrees came with 2 half pieces of whey naan and coconut rice. I think it should come with 4 pieces of naan, especially with dishes that come with a lot of sauce. The black cod was tender and delicious- it came wrapped in a banana leaf and a side of really delicious curry sauce. The service is great here and I had a good time and a good experience. I do think it is pricey for Indian food, though they do a great job of plating each dish and making it is visually appealing, but it didn't feel like traditional indian food I've had at other places. Its just more colorful and a little fancier and more done up for like a "fine dining restaurant". I wish they had other options of naan to order like other indian places I've visited- I was really looking forward to that, so I was disappointed I didn't see a butter or garlic or cheese naan on the menu to order. The whey naan was good but not as soft and chewy as other naan I've had. it was more crunchy.

I was heavily pregnant at the time, and my husband had planned a special dinner for me and my mother. We intentionally chose the day before Mother's Day, thinking it would be less crowded and more relaxed. About an hour into our meal, while we were waiting for dessert and already wrapping things up, the hostess came over and rudely asked us to vacate our table. We had arrived on time for our reservation, and with our toddler already past bedtime, we certainly weren't planning to linger. What upset me the most wasn't just being rushed--it was the way it was handled. There was no apology or acknowledgment from the hostess. Our server did try to make things right by offering complimentary dessert, which I appreciated, but by then the experience had already been spoiled. We have celebrated several special occasions at Rooh in the past and have always had great experiences, which made this incident even more surprising. Unfortunately, what should have been a memorable celebration before Mother's Day turned into a disappointing one, and I don't see myself returning.

Would 100% come back for our favorites, and I'd recommend the meats here over the seafood. My favorite among the Eylan, Ettan, Copra sister restaurants! ------ FOOD: 1. [MUST TRY] TARO ROOT CHAAT (5/5) Wow wow wow. My new favorite way to enjoy chaat. Two crispy taro root chips sandwiching a medley of sauces, then covered thoughtfully in sev (short, crunchy noodles) and topped with pomegranate seeds. It's not only beautiful but also delicious. 2. RIBEYE (5/5) Had no expectations that this ribeye would be anything special, but it was surprisingly excellent quality. We absolutely loved it and the side of broccolini that came with it (super flavorful). 3. EYLAN CRISPY CHICKEN (5/5) Crispy exterior without excessive batter, super tender + juicy chicken, and great aioli to pair. The chicken comes out piping hot (be careful) with seasoning that adds the slightest kick. 4. CHILLED GREEN GRAPE CHAAS (4.75/5) Such a refreshing start to the meal. The flavors and textures were all perfect. The only reason this isn't a 5/5 is because, surprisingly, the semolina balls are slightly different sizes, so some were too big to have in one bite. 5. WOODFIRE CHICKEN SEEKH (4.5/5) Another chicken dish that comes out piping hot. Again, extremely tender chicken (texturally, maybe they marinaded the chicken in yogurt?). They kept emphasizing that a skewer only comes with 3 pieces, but each piece was actually quite large so we're glad we didn't over-order. Both the chicken and the chutney it comes with are very spicy though, so be prepared. 6. KOHLRABI & PINEAPPLE (4.5/5) The surprises kept coming. Honestly, had no idea what this was when I tried it, but the best way to describe it for others who have never had something like this before is an unbelievably flavorful Indian version of kimchi (without the fermentation). Thin slices of kohlrabi and pineapple with smokiness, sweetness, and crunch, smothered in a delicious glaze. WOW. 7. FROZEN SHRIKHAND (4.5/5) Another surprise win! The epitome of not-too-sweet. A very refreshing and easy-to-share dessert that is both light and rich at the same time. 8. KING TRUMPET MUSHROOM (4.25/5) A simple dish that reminded me of Mongolian skewered mushrooms. Nice smokey flavor paired with a flavorful seasoning sprinkled on top. 9. HISPI CABBAGE (4.25/5) Another nice vegetable dish where the cabbage is not only cooked nicely, but it's swimming in a thick curry that you can eat with your breads. 10. WOODFIRED NANTE CARROT (4.25/5) Like a sweet and savory crepe. Small but mighty, and another unexpectedly tasty item where the looks deceived you into think it was a simple item. 11. GULF SHRIMP (4/5) This was a nice dish but I found the shrimp to be slightly overcooked and slightly fishy. Not bad at all, but probably not something I'd order again. 12. EYLAN CHICKEN YAKHNI PULAO (4/5) Super interesting flavor I've never had before in a rice dish, and extremely generous with the amount of chicken used in this. Loved the crispy shallots as a garnish on top. Rice was a little dry. 13. CHARRED BLACK COD (4/5) Crispy skin and piping hot. The fish itself was not tough but it wasn't melt-in-your-mouth tender -- definitely firm. Had the slightest fishiness to it in my opinion but it's still not bad. I think the move here is Eylan's meats though. 14. FLAXSEED POEE (3.75/5) Loved that it came out freshly-baked, easy to share, and super fluffy. Very high quality but the flaxseed flavor wasn't my favorite and there was something about the avocado saag that made it taste more like a condiment than something to eat with the poee. 15. BERRY MAKHANA KHEER (2/5) This is just a personal preference. These kinds of desserts are not for me flavor-wise. Also difficult to eat since we were given flat plates and this is a liquid dessert. ------ ENVIRONMENT / AMBIANCE: * This is a truly beautiful restaurant. It's clear that they put a lot of attention into each detail and decoration, reminiscent of Copra in SF or Ettan nearby (sister restaurants). * They play music semi-loudly in the restaurant which creators a very lively atmosphere that I actually quite liked, but you can also ask them to turn down the music if it ever gets bothersome. * The restaurant is located alongside a main road in Menlo Park, but it's a bit more tucked away from the road such that it doesn't feel too exposed. ------ SERVICE: * Maybe because we were a large group, but they gifted us a plate of delicious Naankhatai (Indian Ghee Cardamom Shortbread) after dessert and those cookies were divine. We asked for the last couple to be packed up, and to our surprise, they gave us a whole new batch of cookies! I don't typically like samosas because in my mind they should be crisp and not heavy, and they always end up being doughy and hard. These are lighter and crispier than normal and super enjoyable. The dahi puri chaat was so good. I love that everything was packed in separate small containers so that everything stayed crisp - I was most worried that this would be soggy when it arrived. My mom was craving biryani, and this did not disappoint. The rice was tender without being soggy, everything was very flavorful and not too spicy. Someone else noted that the butter chicken was the best they'd ever had and I concur. It's sweet, savory and there's tons of kasuri methi in it to give it the most perfect flavor. They were also very generous with the chicken, so I didn't find myself fishing around in a container full of sauce looking for small pieces of meat. My only complaint about this was that the containers were quite small for the price. Garlic naan was my mom's least favorite thing, but I thought it was great. She prefers her naan to be very fluffy, and I prefer mine to be thinner and more on the crisp/chewy side, which this is. Not a ton of garlic flavor, but enough to add a little something to the butter chicken. I would probably go with plain naan next time though. This meal was so good that my husband and I fought over the leftovers. I was trying to hoard them so that I could bring them to work for lunch and he was trying to eat them the next day.
