At the 45min wait mark, I went to the host stand now an Asian young man and lady hostess were there and just sat two groups of people who also walked in same number in party get sat right away. we've been waiting quite awhile, and we haven't received any notice. The lady hostess told me we sent you a message and you didn't come so we crossed you off the list. Needless to say. We've been waiting inside the restaurant the entire time. Come to find out she put a wrong digit down for my number. Then we asked for to speak to a manager then instantly got seated after... we were sat in the back corner, with a table that had 7 kids. Needless to say date night was a bust. We both ordered the emperors feast. Our chef was fine, but wasn't very enthusiastic. We might have had more fun watching other tables than our own. Food was alright but wasn't to us overly buttery/oily. The steak was cooked perfect. We probably won't be back after $100 night of waiting we tried to get ahold of the lady manager who looked overly stressed but she looked like she had a lot going on at the time we tried to wave her down. read more

Food was really good but this was not a great experience. First we had to wait 15 minutes after our reservation time to actually be seated. Then from the time we ordered to the time our chef arrived it was 35 minutes. Also not sure if they are understaffed or something but we also just sat there with empty salad bowls and rapidly needing refills the whole time. If we weren't paying an average of $100 for this experience I wouldn't complain but we were. After repeatedly calling with no success after hour and half at 626-340-2276, I tried any #, a 714# who did answer, was transferred to a someone who said no manager was available and said he could not do anything other than cancel the order and start a new one (meaning I have to pay AGAIN). Look. I'm a die hard Shogun guy. But Zach at the Benihana in the Santa Anita mall? Let's just say we definitely will be coming back if this guy is the baseline for the show that Benihana is gonna put on. First, shout out to Travis and Sasha for being so accommodating after our families had been displaced from the Eaton Fires. We brought our friends who lost their home on a night that was busy and we got amazing service before we mentioned the tragic circumstances. Then, they were quick with beverage service and getting the orders in despite having a full house and seemingly limited chefs to cook meals. Then came Zach and from the very beginning he was personal, and funny, and engaging. Our kids loved him and he kept the energy up the entire time he was cooking. The food was good - a welcome point because this hasn't ALWAYS been the case in my experiences at Benihana. I dunno if this franchise is under different ownership but they should consider making this GM more available across all of their locations. Decided to come to Benihana to celebrate my friend's birthday because he has never been before. It's a fun dinner experience (yes, a little corny and kitschy) but overall, still a good time. They have tons of drinks and food options so there's something for everybody. They also ask if anyone has any allergies to anything before they start cooking. Essentially Benihana is teppanyaki where they cook your food in front of you and there's a "show" including the onion volcano, shrimp in a pocket and other fun puns as the chef is cooking. They cook your protein however you like and you get to watch while you eat. You will have to share a table with others because I believe it is 8 people per table. I ordered the Salmon and my friend ordered the Surf and Turf (steak and shrimp). You can also add items if your selected entree doesn't come with a specific protein you want (like scallops, lobster tails, etc.). In addition to your protein, the meal also comes with soup, salad, veggies (onions, mushrooms and zucchini), 3 pieces of shrimp, steamed rice and hot tea. You can upgrade your rice to fried rice with your choice of protein. If you get one of their specialty entrees, it also comes with ice cream. I loved the Salmon entree I ordered. It was so good and the Salmon was cooked perfectly! I got mine with a beef fried rice so it felt like I had my own surf and turf meal. I suggest signing up for their membership club (it's free) because you get a $30 coupon to spend on your birthday month! (Fine print is that you have to spend minimum $30 and then the coupon applies to the charges after). It's not a problem to hit the minimum spend though since most entrees are $30+. I suggest making reservations as they do get busy and arrive early to look for parking because Santa Anita mall is packed even on a Tuesday night! read more

Greed or negligence, that's the only way I can explain it. This was December 28th, 2024. We made a reservation for a party of 9, 3 weeks in advance. We made it for 5:30pm, we all showed up promptly at 5:25pm. We waited until 6:25 , and gave up. We have an autistic child and she just went berserk with the wait. The hostess nor the manager wanted to admit it , but they simply overbooked. There were so many angry customers. How can a brand like Benihana allow this to happen, we weren't the only family with reservations. We got frustrated and lost our appetite, and our child lost it after 45 minutes and we still waited as long as we could hoping something would happen, even asked the hostess and manager for help. Nothing. They should not have allowed the reservations to go through if they were this booked. Very disappointed and frankly kind of disgusted with the business practice. Came here on a 6:30 PM Monday. The restaurant must have been busy because we were seated an hour later even though we had a reservation. I had to keep coming back to check in with the front but it seems like folks were new. Besides this minor hiccup, the service was hospitable. I came on Christmas Day, my actual birthday, and was utterly disappointed. We had a family of 11 dining at a table set for 10, one was an infant so that's fine. Our reservation was at 5:30 and we were seated at 6:45....over an hour wait with reservation is unheard of! Finally we were seated. At the start, they asked if there was a birthday and we told them it was mine. There was no celebration of my birthday at all, not even a dessert or song. Very weird...why would they ask and do nothing about it? Anyway, they finally started bringing out our appetizer dishes at 7:30, and our dinner started being cooked at 7:45, an hour after being seated. The server forgot to write down two of our dishes. We told him to cancel the tuna roll since we were well into our meal and he brought it out anyway and still charged us for it. My mom got the cold sake flight to enjoy with her meal, but our meal was served way later. By the time the food was ready her sake was warm. I paid for the American ribeye at $65 asked it for medium rare and it came out well done. My sister asked for the same dish and got a medium rare. We told the cook but he said to talk to a manager which he did not help us get. The manager got us another ribeye and he cooked it rare, cut it into slices, and seared each piece individually...it ended up being medium well still. I gave up. The other dishes came out pretty tasty but generally overcooked. My brother finally got his meal at the END of dinner service after we had all gotten ours including the fried rice. I don't understand why the cook didn't prepare his at the same time as ours... Since our party was 11 people, we were charged gratuity, which I felt we were taken advantage of since they gave us the poorest service possible. The cook Alex did not do any amazing show. He brought out precut vegetables when the other cooks did knife work on the grill! All around us people were having light shows and fun acts being done. Our cook simply cooked our food and didn't even do it well. He didn't smile. He was as exciting as a graveyard. He did do the volcano and tossed the onions in the trash. WHAT THE HELLL????!!!! Why would he do the finale volcano and not serve it to us? That is beyond strange to me. You can't make this up. This cook, server, and unbelievable wait times has ruined teppanyaki for me. I live 15 mins from a Benihanas but drove 30 mins to go to the Arcadia location thinking I was going to get great service like last time. As we did a walk in I asked the host if chef Chris was working and he said he had just left. We waited 20 mins for our table and we can see chef Chris working. Our waitress was nice but she was slow took forever to get us refills , only came once to check if we needed anything. I had a great time visiting 'Benihana,' Santa Anita Mall, Arcadia., CA., for the first time yesterday. I was craving their Hibachi fried rice with chicken but ended up getting that with steak too. I placed a phone order for take out though they ask for your credit card info. Just ask them to confirm security on using credit card and request a receipt upon receiving order. The overall ambiance of the restaurant was the same as the other branch I used to go, 'City of Industry,' CA. I'm switching to Arcadia now because all my friends are here in the mall. I'll be back again soon probably like tomorrow for another take out order. This was efficient, but I should order away from rush hours because I still had to wait a tad for my phone take out order. Our chef fausta was really good. He was friendly, he danced, he had a good spirit and he cooked well. We arrived at 5:00 p.m. and did not get service on the actual food until 5:50 p.m. too long await considering there were only three tables. Vivian was a nice waitress and very attentive. However, she did get our order incorrect. The food didn't have a lot of flavor, needed more seasoning. Fausta cooked the vegetables separately and served them separately when they should have been mixed up and had more seasoning. I had a really disappointing curbside pickup experience here recently. My order (which included a pint of garlic butter) was supposed to be ready at 7:22 PM, and I submitted my car's plate number and parking location, expecting the food to be brought out as curbside usually works. But no one came. After waiting, my partner had to go inside, only to be bounced back and forth between the front desk and the host - each saying the other was supposed to handle it. No one seemed to take responsibility, and we didn't leave with the food until almost 7:40 PM. To make things worse, a staff member made a sarcastic comment asking, "What do you need all this garlic butter for?" - which felt uncalled for. We ordered a pint because we like it, and it's not their place to make jokes about a customer's order. Between the delay and the confusion it was just unprofessional. We arrived exactly on time for our 8pm reservation on June 27, 2025, and there were dozens of people waiting to be seated- standing up, spilling into the street. There were two different parties at the desk yelling that their reservations were for almost an hour before and they still hadn't been seated. The staff, who looked frazzled, overworked and injured (giant bandage on host's hand) said it wasn't their fault because "corporate" took bookings- not them. I went today and sat at the bar section. I ordered hibachi steak from the lunch menu. The steak was so gross and the vegetables were cold. The steak looked old and the taste was so bad. I cannot believe they served low quality meat now. I hope I would not get sick. They also cut down the portion a lot without any shrimp. The price is $27 but the quality has downgraded.
