4 stars It's been a hot minute since I've been to Kabuki, so I decided to come here for happy hour. I think this might be one of the best happy hour menus I've seen in a while. Everything on the happy hour menu was reasonably priced and there is plenty to choose from. I got the salmon roll, spicy tuna roll, yellowtail nigiri, and salmon nigiri. They were all delicious. The rolls were big and very filling. The nigiri were perfectly proportioned. I was satisfied with my order. Service was wonderful. The interior was spacious with plenty of seats. There is also patio seating. Free parking is available on site and they also have garage parking underneath. I would definitely come back to this location. read more

While I do not see that I could brag how beautiful the outdoor section was, I could brag about the service, food and value during their happy hour on a Saturday afternoon - a perfect place to hang out with friends and have a cold beer for $3 in a frosty mug. And yes, parking was great too ;-). Listen, if you usually go to the Nobu and love them for what they are in charge: stay away. If you ask - and I know now you will - how this place compares to Nobu: it doesn't. Other than both selling drinks and sushi - they are two totally different animals. I judge restaurants by what they stand for. To get four stars, the need to somehow positively surprise me, for five I need to be willing a 30 min detour to dine there. Pasadena is not thirty minutes from my home, but if it was, I would take the time - to drive to this particular Kabuki, which is maybe not by design but be service and food of all of the Kabukis I have been to. read more

The information I wished to convey was to inform individuals that the parking lot next to the restaurant typically becomes full during happy hour. However, street parking and additional parking below the restaurant are usually available. Another piece of advice is to encourage people to use the Yelp application to join the waitlist. I had initially decided against sharing the following suggestion, but I felt it was only fair for patrons to be aware that they should inform the host or hostess of their willingness to be seated at the bar or sushi bar, especially when there is a long waitlist. Of course, one must be at least 21 years of age to be seated at the bar. We were very pleased to have Bryan as our sushi chef when we sat at the sushi bar. We received our sushi more quickly than when we sit inside the restaurant or outdoors. I came here with my partner and my mother for happy hour, craving sushi since it had been a while since our last visit. Unfortunately, this experience was incredibly disappointing. I have an allergy to cucumber, and I made it very clear to the server from the beginning that none of the sushi I ordered could have cucumber (with the exception of the California roll my partner ordered). We've been here many times before and have always given the same instruction, so I expected it to be handled with care. First, the tuna roll looked off -- not the vibrant red I was used to, which raised concerns about freshness. Then, while eating the scallop roll, I bit into a shell, forcing me to spit the entire piece out. When I informed the server, his only response was "oh, OK" before walking away. He never apologized or acknowledged the seriousness of the situation until we had to go back and ask for the roll to be removed from the order. Even then, there was no apology. Next, we ordered the Alaskan roll and were told there was no cucumber in it. Thankfully, I checked before eating because there was cucumber inside. This was extremely concerning, given my allergy. It is very unprofessional and unsafe for a restaurant of Kabuki's size and reputation to be so careless with food allergies. Not once did the server apologize, and at no point did a manager come over to address the issue. On top of that, the plates were dirty, and the restaurant itself did not feel clean -- surprising given that this is a relatively new location. This was a truly upsetting experience. Not only was the food quality questionable, but the lack of care and concern for customer safety was alarming. Sadly, I will not be returning, and I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone -- especially those with allergies. Mistakes like this put customers at serious risk, and Kabuki's handling of the situation showed me that customer well-being is not their priority. Truly disappointing. :( read more

The best thing about kabuki is the huge selection you can choose from! they have sushi and sashimi, but also some cooked foods. my friend got the poke which she says she always goes with and is pretty solid. I got the kabuki roll, and i loved how it came with different fish as a topping for each piece. i will say the "crunch" inside the roll can be very drying despite the various tops, so i'd order eel sauce with it. this location has an underground parking lot, and the restaurant is accommodating for large parties. read more

We always try to sit in either Marcello's or Martinez's area. We ordered all of our faves. Started with miso soups all around and house salads x3. We ordered the firecracker, dumplings x2, shrimp tempura x2, sesame chicken, wings and the sunkiss roll. What was pretty cool is that right when we sat down he brought our soda water. He never let our ginger and Siracha go empty. It was lent so no Sapporo. The happy hour is 7 days and a great way to try everything. Easy parking adjacent to the restaurant. Just here to update. I still really enjoy this spot. Although I miss the Foothill location, the East Colorado Blvd location has grown on me. Friendly, casual ambiance. Great for family time or hanging out with friends. The food is good, great staff, and they have amazing happy hour prices. $3 draft Sapporo, $3 sake, great prices on sushi, speciality rolls, and side dishes. Anna is the sweetest server and my family always feels welcome when we're at her table. On today's visit, the food was served quickly and everything was fresh and delicious. We left very satisfied. This is one of my go-to Japanese restaurants in SGV. They have a wide variety of options that all taste pretty good and are decently priced. The beef sukiyaki was so delicious and totally worth it! The kabuki roll was pretty impressive too; we don't usually like roe or uni but it worked so well with the underlying rolls. The restaurant is clean and spacious. Service is really nice. Kabuki is a decent restaurant for cooked Japanese food. The teriyaki, cutlet and tempura dishes were okay. This is fairly Americanized Japanese food so the menu is pretty expansive. The sushi and sashimi are only ordinary and there are better options but for basic cooked Japanese food its not bad. read more

We've been loyal patrons of Kabukis for many years, which made this recent visit particularly disappointing. During our dinner, several items that we ordered...primarily from the happy hour menu, were served either overcooked or undercooked. The issues were immediately noticeable. I brought this to the manager's attention, and while she did offer to have the dishes remade, we had already experienced a significant wait for our food and were unable to stay longer. When I declined the remake, the interaction became somewhat uncomfortable as there was continued insistence. Additionally, the situation was not helped by the lack of acknowledgment or apology upon her departure, which left us feeling that our concerns were not fully heard. We chose to keep some of the dishes despite the issues, but overall, the experience and more importantly the QUALITY OF THE FOOD fell short of the standards we've come to expect as a family over the years As long time customers, we hope this was an isolated incident and that future visits will reflect the quality and service we have previously enjoyed. read more

Roughly 40% off certain items during happy hour makes it definitely worth the price if you're looking for a good deal. Ordered for pickup and to my surprise the chicken wing karaage only came with 4 pieces when it normally comes with 6 pieces. I've ordered this many times and it's always been 6 pieces regardless of size. I called the Pasadena location and was first told by the hostess that it should be 6 pieces. After checking with the kitchen, the story suddenly changed to "it's only 4 pieces now." I knew that wasn't true, so I called the Burbank location and they confirmed it's 6 pieces. I then called the Pasadena location back and I asked to speak with the manager. She admitted it's usually 6 pieces but then tried to justify it by saying it's based on weight and that the pieces were bigger. That explanation didn't make sense and felt dishonest. Instead of admitting a mistake, I got excuses. I'm not upset about the chicken, I'm upset about the lies and inconsistent answers. Mistakes happen, but honesty matters. From what I could remember we had the grilled pork belly, kimchi gyoza, tiger roll, a couple other rolls (we ordered so much I can't remember it all) and beef teriyaki. Beware- apparently a terrible policy here to seat all kids together. I love children but I do not care for this policy at a nice dinner. We have an older child and they sat us right next to a table with a screaming toddler with many open tables everywhere else. Then when that family finally left mid meal, they sat a family with four small children under six years there with again a screaming shrieking child. I looked around and we are surrounded by young kids when all the other patrons were far away. We have a ten year old so at least differentiate between ages. Even my ten year old was covering their ears by the end of the meal. We were SO close to the other table (the long corner booth) that we did not even have privacy to ask about moving plus the food had already been placed down. It was a miserable experience. And parents, have some common sense, too, bring some toys and crayons for the kids so they have something to do. Cuts down on the screaming and fussing if they are engaged. read more
