I've been coming to this Benihana location for several years now. After a long hiatus, my family and I returned to celebrate one of my family member's birthdays here. Although making reservations in advance, we surprisingly didn't have a long wait. We visited the restaurant on a late Friday afternoon and, surprisingly, it wasn't packed. My husband and I live further from this Concord location, so were a bit late (FYI they will not seat your party, regardless if you made reservations or not, until the entire party is present). Despite our tardiness, we waited briefly to be seated at a table for an early dinner. The ambiance still gives the traditional Japanese vibe, especially around the teppanyaki grills. The are other tables and seating around the bar area; however, I've never dined there since I typically order my drinks at the tables by the teppanyaki grills. Customer service continues to be quite good here. All of the staff that we interacted with, including our waitress and chef, were friendly, easy to talk to, and accommodating to our fairly large party. We didn't have to ask for refills since our waitress was making sure that all of our needs were met. Our chef also went the extra mile to keep my niece and the other children entertained while watching him cook. Initially, the waitress and the other women helping her placed some of the dishes down in front of my daughter (who is 1 year old). When she saw my little one trying to grab the bowls, she made sure not to place any of the dishes close to her to prevent her from grabbing them. As a mom, that gesture alone was much appreciated. Despite a smaller menu, the food is still delicious. I noticed some of the usual dishes that I used to order were no longer on the menu. Also, most dishes' names were only in English instead of in Japanese like before. This isn't a bad thing necessarily, just an observation that I made. They still serve the refreshing salad with the delicious dressing and the savory onion soup at the start of the meal. My filet mignon was cooked to perfection and the dipping sauce elevated the flavor to the next level. Overall, my family and I are pleased with our most recent dining experience, at this Benihana location in Concord. We will dine here again soon. read more

Dined on Saturday, December 21 with our nephews and mom. They were extremely busy but we still had exceptional service by Zack who continuously checked in and communicated if our beverages were a little behind. Zack had a great vibe and we felt that were in good hands. The food was much better than other teppanyaki restaurants we've been to, cocktails were delicious, and the Berry Merry Mocktail for our nephews was delicious as well! Special shout out to Chef Linzy for his experience and engagement with the table. Another shout out to Salman (manager) who checked in frequently with the patrons and was very attentive. I would give zero if I could! The cook and the food were the only redeeming factors for my first ever experience at Benihana. The service was very lackluster! The hostess that sat us was very rude and didn't hand us the Valentine's Day menu when everyone else at our table recieved one. The server was not attentive and everytime I would manage to get his attention, I would get met with a snarky attitude. I understand that Wednesdays are typically slow days for restaurants but that shouldn't be an excuse for the poor service that we recieved on our visit. read more

The food is great! And sitting at the hibachi grill is absolutely fun. Chef Jorge was a joy to be with and made our dining experience amazing. We ordered The Benihana Delight, Rocky's Choice, Benihana Trio, California Rolls, for a party of 8. The food was delicious! My only complaint about the food was that the sauces on the side including the dressing for the salad were salty. Other than that, Chef Jorge was outstanding and definitely made us feel so welcomed. This is where they dropped the ball and for its 2 star rating. We came here 20min early on Saturday 2/17 with reservations for 6:15pm for a birthday. As soon as we pulled up, the front was completely packed with other people who had reservations and been waiting for 45min. We met a few groups who also reserved for 6:15pm. A lot of people were upset and waiting in the cold and mists of rain was not helping. First, we were told a 20min wait and then eventually it turned into a 1-2hr wait. At this point, we were very upset and figured we'd try somewhere else to eat, but every where else was a 3hr wait. And yes, I totally understand it's Valentine's Day weekend, but a reservation is a reservation meaning that this Benihana location overbooked! And all the manager could say was sorry. 1 1/2hr later, we were finally able to get in. And yet, we never got the text message about our table being ready . If it wasn't for my Mother in law watching them and making sure that we got in, we definitely would've been overlooked. This establishment needs to do better!!! read more

This is my first time going to Benihana, and it was great! No, I wouldn't say it's the most authentic Asian cuisine but that's not why you go there; you primarily go there because it's a fun experience. I wouldn't say the food is not very standout either, especially for the price, so I definitely would not recommend getting takeout. However, having gotten all of the bad stuff out of the way, it's a cool experience. It's like getting dinner and a show, and the service is above and beyond both from the chefs and the wait staff. The ambiance is also great and the shared seating, which I initially thought would be awkward, actually makes for a nice experience to meet some other folks. If you want a private table, though, you just need 6 or 7 people. I think Benihana is fun to go to once, with some friends or family especially, but it's still difficult for me to recommend it over some better mom and pop spots read more

Yesterday was brutal. Our reservation time is at 645pm and we didn't get seated until 815pm. We should have left but we were already too deep in the waiting game. It started with 15-20 mins wait time to 20-30mins every time I asked the hostess for an update. A computer glitch apparently with open table made this mess. There were parties that had a 615pm reservation and they sat just 10mins before us. What a waste of time. Food is ok for the price you pay. I am not going back... Kimono in Benicia is looking like the next best option for hibachi restaurant in the East Bay. read more

The only problem we had was the wait, it was 30 min pass our reservation time, it was Father's Day and party of 10, but once we got in things turn for the best service,food & show we have gotten. Layla and Gabriel gave us the best service we could ask for. Layla provided the very best service we could ask for and Gabriel put on a very good show on cooking our food, the food was very good, and it was the way everyone wanted it. Great job from the both of them. Layla would be a great asset to any company she works for. I have to write a review about our experience last night but I'm giving 5 stars because the waitress was good and I don't want this to impact her negatively. We were the last party to be seated at 9:15pm (open until 10pm), we had to wait far too long for the appetizer roll and spicey edamame. There were three other full tables with chefs cooking and providing good shows. Our chef was literally cooking in slow motion once he FINALLY arrived, the meat was done but vegetables were still very hard, and everything lacked seasoning. He did not do one show - not one flame, nothing with the onions, NOTHING. Worst experience ever at Benihana's for $280! while celebrating my bday and our anniversary! Will return to this location because this is the first negative experience we had but I'm super disappointed and feel like I wasted money. read more

My server was so rude. She was for some reason kind to her other tables but seemed annoyed anytime she would come to ours. I had to remind her about our drinks as we were half way done with our meal and never received them. I had to remind her of several things. I asked politely for anything I needed and she just seemed annoyed like I was bothering her. I paid and was going to leave she was taking another order - I was waiting for her to finish or see I was standing there with my daughter to let us pass by quickly but instead she relaxed against the wall stretched out her legs and blocked the pathway more. Came in at 7:10pm on Valentine's Day expecting it to be busy. From the start it's been a shit show. From getting seated to ordering my parties food to it taking 2.5 hrs to get it. This will be the last time I ever eat here. My waiter went home or quit most likely because after he brought the drinks and took the order he was never seen again. The manager came out promising the food would be done in 10 minutes and it's now 30 minutes later with no food. We visited with a party of 4 for my husbands birthday on 12/19 at 1pm. Our Teppanyaki chef did nothing you would expect to be included with the obnoxious price they charged us. In fact our kids were asking why the table next to us got a full show while our chef couldn't even manage to do an onion volcano. There was zero engagement so you would think we should be able to pay the express lunch prices. Nope, my husband and I paid full price for the Hibachi steak that was so unevenly cooked and full of fat and gristle that it was inedible. My husband's entree was $59 plus $9 for fried rice. We paid over $200 for a meal that we didn't even want to eat. To make it even worse our server couldn't even figure out how to input our very simple orders with no substitutions and then took forever to bring our check well after the chef was done cooking. This was also done with the restaurant knowing we were there for my husband's birthday ahead of time as I indicated on our reservation and confirmed with them multiple times. Zero effort was made to give us even a mediocre experience with good food. It wasn't even busy or rushed while we were there. There was ample staff and very few diners. Now we know why. Never again. Our visit was terrible and we won't be back. Shout out to Ivan, the inexperienced manager, who ruined our very expensive special occasion. [No shade to our chef and server because they were excellent.] We hadn't been seated long when I stood up to take a photo, then tripped and fell on their raggedy carpet. I hurt my wrist but we kept it moving. We finished our first cocktail and ordered a second. The drinks never arrived. Adding insult to injury, literally, I learned Mr. Ivan had cut off our entire table from cocktails. I was being "put on punishment" by Ivan who, rather than check on me, implied I had too much to drink. So now I'm a stumbling drunk? Never mind, we just ordered $600 of food! The vibe went from celebratory to "this sucks." Apparently, his decision was for "our safety." How ironic, NOT ONE employee came to investigate the fall or make sure I was OK. I didn't even know they saw it. They must get sued often since, clearly, this isn't about safety; it's about avoiding potential responsibility. Ivan smirked and seemed to enjoy my frustration as I questioned his BS rationale and reminded him of our $600 tab. The food itself was quite bland. The only item that was well seasoned / flavorful was the soup and salad .... Overall, it's far overpriced for the food, Ambiance and service. Last 2 times my servers have forgot about me. This time I sat in the lounge. Ordered the same food I did sitting in front of a grill and my food was half the size and same price. My meal came out quick. My gfs came up when I was almost finished. Idk if they're supposed to but they charged me a whole fried rice instead of the upgrade to fried rice. Had to ask for everything. Good workers are hard to find but this place is supposed to be prestigious and the prices are high like it is but the service has sucked. He was especially kind and catered to my picky ass with a level of caring even those who know and love me have yet to develop. Listen, I friggin' hate onions. As in, hate them. I'm a vegetarian and ordered fried rice but asked for no onions. Soto pointed at the platter of onions and carrots for the fried rice that had already been chopped in the kitchen and I nodded my head, defeated, knowing that I was about to suffer the same onion-laden fate I had sought and fought to avoid. But Soto saw that sorrow singe my soul and asked me if I could do just carrots. I said that I could and he rushed back to the kitchen, chopped up some carrots, returned, and started the show. We were there for my boyfriend's mom's birthday. Spoiler alert: She's a 12-year-old trapped in a 62-year-old's body, so the display was epic for her. Hoots, whistles, giggles, the whole nine. She had such a great time and ate so well that she practically had to be carried out. (She probably would've been fine with that.) I went to Benihana in Concord for my Brother- In-Law birthday. There were 28 of us, and we had so much fun. The service was fantastic and the servers/staff were amazing! Since I am vegan, I ordered the salad (salad dressing was a little salty) , avocado cucumber roll, and edamame was yummy. My husband ordered the steak, shrimp and chicken fried rice. He said his meal was very delicious. The manager Salman was great, he kept checking on us to see if we needed any thing. Salman also took a picture of all of us. This is long but read it. Don't go here. Lots better choices out there. The Benihana days are over. I've been coming to Benihana for 25 years, Concord, Reno, Citrus Heights, and Burlingame (which is the best one to date). Others have closed and I think concord should close as well. Its old, needs updating, bathrooms are not clean and dark and chairs are torn up and taped back together again. We spent almost 500.00 last night and did not get the service, the food, the curtesy and a waitress who clearly did not like her job and did not want to be there. Last night was Veterans night. First of all, they should have put the Set Menu for Vets online so vets could make up their mind if they wanted the 3 lousy choices they offered. Too late. We ended up ordering our regular orders that we've had in the past since we were there. What we should have done is left. New ownership AGAIN. Seems like every month there are new owners. That says a lot. I pulled out my chair and the chair was all torn up and discolored and ready for the dumps. The waitress took two order drinks when there were four of us. She delivered the bottles to the two who did not get to order. Then there were these very odd men (bus boys? Helpers?) who the chef was asking to bring him things and they never returned. I had to jump in and grab one and ask for a box for take home rice. The bowl was sitting there getting all the smoke and crap in the air on it. Where the hell did the waitress go? She was non-verbal and no good at her job. Bye bye. Never saw her again till time for bill (a very, very overpriced bill) when dinner ended. Had to keep grabbing these odd helpers when they passed by for things like a box, a bag, some sauce, etc. The cook started the cooking by an inadvertently long, long time of banging of the spatula and fork on the grill which was so highly annoying I started to get up and leave. He should have taken a beat and seen there were elderly folks sitting there and given the respect to them and stopped this horrible noise. No one enjoyed it, not even the youngsters. They were holding their ears. Guess what Benihana, start being professional, come to the table, greet your guests and get cooking. That banging crap, heart thudding, volcano smoke crap is done. It's done. The oil and smoke all came towards me and put me into a gagging, coughing episode where I thought I would have to leave. I should have. I stunk from smoke and food when I got home. The filet mignon was a very cheap cut. Instead of one nice slice from the roast it looked like it was stitched together with two small pieces knit together. The portions have gotten so small I was embarrassed when the so-called cook put three lousy shrimp on my dish! What the hell is that? A tablespoon of bad, limp mushrooms, a scoop of bad onions and one thin slice of zucchini cut in six tiny pieces. Cheap, cheap, cheap. We ordered gyoza appetizers. Loaded with oil, barely cooked, odd filling, dripping with oil and COLD. This is not not new. They have not been able to get hot cooked gyoza to the table in a decade. The rice I got should have been smoothed on the top. That's how the well-trained cooks used to do it. Presentable. Nothing about this dinner was presentable. It's like, here's your very little cheap badly cooked and presented dinner for a great big price. Rice thrown in the bowl just a mess and uncaring. They lured the vets in with a so-called free meal (which was cheap and tasteless) and didn't have the decency or training to thank the vets at the table for their service (or for coming in to save their lousy job). What a dope of a waitress we had. No personality. Disappears throughout entire dinner and then comes in with this machine for the bill. Oh, right on that. Again, all new personnel every time I've gone in, which will be no more. I've paid the rent over the years there with my patronage, parties and meetings. Very weird with these guys running all over the dining room and then disappearing. I felt like I needed a net to catch one going by like catching fireflies to get a damn bag for the boxes I barely got. Don't go here. This ride is over. Cheap, bad personnel, stingy portions, dirty, old, smelly (and that's what you're getting with the food). Do not leave your phone behind at Benihana Concord Ca you come back a second later looking for your phone and it's no wear to be found. The busboys are cleaning the area and state they have not seen a phone, you ask the reception area no phone, they ask the waitress no phone as you leave you state i will look at "Find My Phone" to see the location of my phone. After I leave my son calls my husband stating Benihana called and found your phone outside. I was almost home had to turn around to go back to Benihana to get my phone that has major screen damage that should not occurred if I had dropped my phone outside. I ha e a screen protector on my phone. One of the bus boys stoled my your phone and throw it outside to look like I had dropped it. I spoke to the manager who side a white man found it outside annd brought it to them. there anre many other businesses in the area. How did he know to bring it to Benihana? Benihana never disappoints, and now they have a discounted hibachi meal you can get in the regular dining area. Seriously can not get this amazing fried rice anywhere else. It's definitely a louder restaurant as far as ambiance and more of a chain style, not the vibe of a small unique place, but if you go in knowing that, great experience. Came here for the experience, didn't really get much out of it sadly enough. Haven't been to Benihana in years and thought it would be a good idea to have a birthday dinner here for my wife's bday with some family. Total bill after 18% tip came out to like $425 for 4 adults and 2 kids (who only ordered noodles). I'm confident I could've spent ~$500 elsewhere more effectively... Food was just as I remembered it to be, good-not-great and garlic-buttery. I wish I took a container of the garlic butter home. The chef we had pretty much cooked the meal with a few entertaining things like the onion volcano and the beating heart rice but that's really it. It was fairly busy on a Sunday night. A bit disorganized up in the front at times. Had a reservation set for 6pm and I got seated at 6:20pm. The whole meal took about 2 hours total. read more

Bartender was horrible, gave nasty looks and attitude the whole night. Manager only took $20 off an almost $200 tab. First off this place is worn down. The bathrooms were terrible and it doesn't seem like they put a lot of care in keeping it maintained. The prices were way expensive, but the food was OK. Except for the onion soup, which looked like it came in a packet. I had to send mine back because it was cold. I didn't know my server's name, but I felt like I had to beg just to get some water after spending $200 on a meal. The service was too slow.
