7/6/26 went for lunch had the Kaisen box for $49 or something (because I'm a lunatic who spends stupid money on lunch) it was petty good. Fatty tuna, ikura, real crab, scallop. Was good. Crab wasn't too sweet but whatever. Scallop didn't have much flavor but was good. Not sure if this box was worth $49 but it was nice. The little booths are a pretty cool set up. Would be fun with a group. Service was meh could've been an off day but I'd still recommend a visit and would go back. read more

I immediately locked in on the Nobuya Omakase box ($69) when I looked through the menu and other reviews. The presentation felt like a proper treat (like a box of chocolates lol), and with the wasabi/ginger came a side of 10ish strips of seaweed. I appreciated the option to make your own mini hand rolls with the sashimi and sushi rice with roe :) Good amount of parking (there is a lot and street parking) and our server was lovely. Nobuya is a great new addition to the area offering a trendy sushi and Izakaya spot! The ambience and food offerings make it a great spot for a casual or a celebration meal. When we got there at 6 on a Saturday there was wait as expected. However, the wait wasn't too bad. The service was great as our main server and everyone who tended to us (including a man at the sushi bar) were all very welcoming and helpful! To get an assortment of items, my partner and I got the Agedashi Tofu, Sashimi Selection, Kushi Sampler, and Gozen w/ chicken katsu and Mixed tempura. They started our party off with Miso soup which was a nice addition! The stand outs were the sashimi selection which had really delicious, fresh sashimi and the Gozen which had solid dishes. The agedashi tofu was okay. The tofu was fried nicely, but the sauce was so subtle in flavor, you really had to dip the tofu in to taste it. However, the flavor of the sauce was delicious when you could taste it. Next time, I would skip the Kushi sampler. It tasted good, but the price was a bit hefty. The chicken skin was especially a small amount compared to other yakitori spots. There was not many kushiyaki or yakitori spots in this area, so this is a good spot to get it without going too far! Overall, a GREAT restaurant. The food was solid, and I will definitely be back! Also heads up, the parking in this area is not the greatest as many things are cramped into that area. read more

If Sasa is your bar for sushi, Nobuya in Pleasant Hill clears it. Found this spot through Yelp, read the reviews, and went to see for myself. Glad I did. We went on a weekday right when the doors opened, which turned out to be the smart move. No trouble parking and no wait for a table. The room is quiet, well lit, and has a traditional elegance to the woodwork and screens that most sushi places in the area skip. The menu runs deep: daily specials, starters, bowls, noodles, skewers, nigiri, sashimi, and two full pages of rolls. We ordered Edamame, the Rainbow Roll, Alaska Roll, Seaweed Salad, Cherry Blossom Roll, and an Avocado Roll. Every plate landed fresh and clean. The Rainbow Roll was the standout. Each piece tasted bright and the fish was clearly handled with care. If you order one thing, make it that. The Seaweed Salad deserves a callout too, well dressed and a step above the usual version you get around here. Service was the other high point. We were greeted on arrival, and almost the whole staff said goodbye on the way out. Professional and friendly at every turn. The pace moved fast across the board: seated quickly, order taken quickly, food out quickly, payment quick. No dead time waiting on anyone. One planning note worth knowing. Reservations are only for parties of six or more. For a smaller group, walk in early like we did and you should be fine, especially on a weekday. We left full and satisfied. I had to check out the new sushi spot in town. The inside is very cute and modern and clean. Service is very fast and friendly. Our table we were seated at was awkward, the staff were constantly wheeling dish carts past us. And we were kind of in the middle of the restaurant. This is why I took off a star, I just felt uncomfortable. We received free miso soup which is such a lovely perk! I ordered the orange head roll which was spicy salmon on top, crab meat and avocado inside. It tasted very fresh. Very yummy! The only bummer was there was a piece of what seemed like shrimp shell in one of the bites. Price was reasonable for the size and quality. My friend ordered the spicy tuna roll and I tried it and it was good! She also got a California roll. They were good sized rolls. All in all a nice new spot. Truly had such a great experience dining here. The staff and management took such great care of us and checked on us routinely. The vibe is clean, and great for a date night as the interior gives off an elevated vibe that's still approachable and unpretentious. Everything tasted fresh and I was pleasantly surprised by how "clean" the tonkatsu tasted! Would highly recommend that if you're not in the mood for fish. The omakase box is a great option for those who want to try out something new and visually gorgeous. I'd recommend the baked mussels over the baked scallops in terms of depth of flavor. I was meeting with a friend for dinner and we were trying to decide where to go. My co-worker recommended me to try this place, so I looked it up and it was a convenient place to meet up. Parking can be packed really easily, but we went in at 5:00 PM, so we had ample spots for us. There was a lot of seating at opening, but we noticed it got packed really fast. The workers were very friendly and greeted us to our table. There, they provided us with water and miso soup as we were getting to our order. The menu is pretty vast, but we decided to try the Mixed Tempura, K Chicken Karaage, Inari Nigiri, 49er Roll, Rainbow Roll and the coveted Omakase Sashimi Box. Mixed Tempura: The frying was perfect and not too oily and ample amount of items to get. Between my friend and I, we were able to evenly split all the tempura. A very delicious appetizer. K Chicken Karaage: Think of Korean Style soy glazed fried chicken. It was very tender and moist and the flavor profile was phenomenal. It was a perfect addition to our meal as well. My only issue was the sauce did make the chicken lose its crunchiness, which is what I would expect from Karaage. Inari Nigiri: I always have to order this, whenever it is on the menu at a sushi place I am trying. From the first taste, I knew it would be perfect. The skin had the right texture and the vinegar and flavor profile was on spot for me. I truly enjoyed this simple dish. 49er Roll: A classic California roll with salmon and lemon slice on top. I always enjoy this roll wherever I can find it. The ratio of rice to imitation crab filling to fish on top was perfect. I felt like everything worked for me and I can see this being my go to order again. Rainbow Roll: My friend ordered this one and it is a California roll with assorted fish on top. I did not have too much of this, but the ones I did taste, very similar to the 49er roll, and of course delicious. Omakase Sashimi Box: This is what I was looking forward to. It is an assortment of 9 + 1 items that the chef selected for us to eat. I was trying to figure out what fish there was, but unfortunately, our waiter was not able to help figure it all out either. From my best guess, I can see Hamachi, Tuna, Salmon, Shrimp, Fatty Tuna (?), Scallops, Shrimp, Salmon Roe with Rice, and whatever the mystery last fish is. Overall, this was worth the experience to try. All the fish tasted fresh and delicious. The chef curated this box and I can see the effort into making it presentable and delicious. Overall, we had a great experience here. Our waters were constantly filled and the waiters constantly checked in on us. The Omakase Box did take some time to get to us, but we were able to eat our other items along the way. Plus, having sashimi as a closer makes it easier to eat once all the "rice" items have been consumed. I can see myself coming back here again. read more

The menu is pretty extensive so there's a lot to look at. The portions were huge! The sashimi and sushi were very fresh. My saba shioyaki was wonderful. Let me just say this place is my all time favorite sushi spot now. I got the Big Mac roll and it just melted in my mouth and was delicious with flavor. Our server was responsive, quick, and recommended all the things that were good and we got all of them and everything was amazing. The restaurant is very relaxing, and the noise is not loud at all. It was honestly just the best sushi experience I've had in a long time. We started with soup, then appetizers, then we had some toro which was sooooo good, the sushi roll and my husband had another item I forgot the name of it but he enjoyed it so much as well. Such a great sushi spot in Pleasant Hill - and I'm so annoyed at myself for forgetting to take pictures because everything was so good. :) Right when you sit down they bring out complimentary miso soup, which felt like such a nice little touch. We ordered the hamachi sashimi and the Chuck Norris roll, both were delicious and super fresh. I had also ordered a hand roll, but unfortunately it got forgotten. That said, the staff was very apologetic and handled it kindly, which I appreciated. The ambiance here is honestly one of my favorite parts. It's peaceful, cozy, and incredibly clean. We sat across from the sushi bar in this cute little nook with really comfortable seating. They had jazz music playing softly in the background, which made the whole experience feel elevated but still relaxed. What genuinely surprised me most though was the wine list. Most sushi spots have very limited wine options, but this place had an impressive selection - including Mumm champagne, multiple Sauvignon Blanc options, other whites, plenty of reds, and lots of sake choices too. I am a big fan of kaisen box and I was looking forward to trying their kaisen box and was disappointed by the lack of uni and the subpar quality of it. Initially, the only uni were the uni on the slice of lime. We asked our waitress Joy on why there's only tiny uni on the slice of lime when in all the photos on yelp and menu photo shows a whole row of uni. She tried to explain that it's a specialty fish but she couldn't really give us the answer. It felt like false advertising. Joy went back and got us 2 more small uni pieces next to the lime, which is still less uni than in all the yelp photos and menu photo. It doesn't make sense why the menu photo and yelp photos show a row of uni but they wanted us to be ok with giving us a piece on slice of lime. It's a dishonest portrayal of what the kaisen box looks like. I posted the pic of the kaisen box and I circled the only uni they gave us initially. This was our first time trying this new izakaya, and since we love Japan and Japanese cuisine, we were excited for a late-night weekend date here. The ambiance is cozy and warm, giving us a feeling reminiscent of being in Japan. However, the outdoor area could use more character--some additional decorations and lanterns would make it feel more lively and inviting. Starting with the fresh oysters was definitely a good decision. The sashimi platter was excellent overall, with the exception of the salmon, which lacked the rich fattiness we typically expect. We also weren't particularly impressed with the wasabi. The grilled salmon kama and skewers took a while to arrive, which was understandable given that they are grilled to order. However, the flavors didn't stand out as much as we had hoped. What left us disappointed was the confusion regarding the beer pricing. The menu we were given listed the beer at $7 per glass, with Suntory as one of the available choices. However, we were charged $14 per glass on the bill. When we asked about it, our server suggested that it "might be" because we ordered Suntory, but he didn't seem certain and initially made no effort to verify. After we requested that he double-check, he returned and confirmed that Suntory was indeed priced higher. We chose not to argue further since it was close to closing time, but the situation felt misleading. If certain beer selections carry a higher price, that should be clearly stated on the menu. My impression is that we may have been given an outdated version, but regardless, the pricing information should be accurate and transparent for customers. Overall, the food was good, and the quality of the fish was undoubtedly premium. That said, while we enjoyed the sashimi, we felt that we could get nearly the same quality at our go-to Japanese restaurant for a better value. Given the price point, we expected a more noticeable difference in both flavor and overall dining experience. read more

Finally tried the restaurant people have been talking about. Nobuya in Pleasant Hill. A Saturday afternoon @ 1pm. The parking was easy. They have a parking lot in the back and easy access on the street. There was no wait, and we got a table immediately. They must've had a crowd before us because there were crumbs on the seats and a small bit of food on the menu. LOL. It did take a while to place our order. We had to flag someone down. But once the order was placed, the food was served pretty quickly. They bring you Miso Soup just after seating, which is a nice touch. - The fried oysters were delicious. The coating was light and crispy, not doughy like other places I have tried $13 - Friends got the 3-item combo. $18 for lunch and $21 for dinner. They mentioned the Tonkatsu was really good and the sauce was tasty, not as vinegary as others they have tried - Pink Dragon Roll. It was said that it was very tasty and fresh. $18 - Premium Sushi Platter $56. I thought it was going to come with a few pieces of the Dragon Roll & Spicy Tuna Roll. I have been here twice now, both times for lunch and the food and service were excellent. The employees were super nice and attentive. My friend and I asked which rolls were popular and we were told the Chuck Norris which did not disappoint with the perfect amount of heat. Their chicken kaarage almost does not need the dipping sauce it comes with and their udon with tempura was also delicious. The inside of the restaurant is open and airy and the prices for lunch and overall menu is worth it. The portions were generous and everything tasted fresh. Sushi restaurants in Pleasant hill tend to be dated a leaves much to be desired in terms of customer experience. Upon walking into the restaurant you'll find beautiful high ceilings, white oak wooden trims and a beautiful node to the modern Japandi style. Now THIS is more of a date spot or a girl's get together restaurant. On to the food- I wasn't ravenously hungry unfortunately so I couldn't try much but I did have a roll and the tofu appetizer. In short, I highly recommend this place. You really have to go see and experience it yourself. I went to Nobuya on Memorial Day for a lil lunch date with my mom and immediately the staff greeted us with a warm welcome. The decor itself is really clean and beautiful even in the middle of the afternoon. The design choices in wood tones and furniture placement feel intentional. We were given the choice between a nice big table to the right or the booth seating to the left and we decided to choose the right side. The seating was comfortable and the vibes were just immaculate. The menu was honestly overwhelming, in a sense that I really wanted to try everything but I know I cant. I skimped out on appetizers this time around (unfortunately), but I ordered the Tonkatsu Teishoku set with a strawberry lemonade while my mom bought the three item Gozen / Bento set with mixed tempura, beef teriyaki, and some spicy tuna rolls. Note that the beef teriyaki and spicy tuna rolls cost an additional dollar. The waitress was very helpful in providing some insight on popular items and recommendations, as well as checking in on many occasions about our wellbeing. Oh boy. When I tell you our jaws dropped at the sight of the Gozen set. I'm not joking. It was big. Compared to my Teishoku set it's a whole other ballpark, but both are really filling and come with a set of rice. The food was lovely. I really cant express how much I loved it. The tonkatsu was crispy and easy to chew while the accompanying sauce compliments the katsu so well. My mom said that her set tasted very fresh and the beef teriyaki was soft and easy to eat. She doesn't usually say when a dish is good so her saying something really surprised me. We both agreed that the strawberry lemonade is so good. A must try I say. It's sweet but not a spoon full of sugar sweet and there's not a punch of tartness (which I usually worry about when it comes to lemonades). I tried so hard not to order another one. We ended up ordering the Coco Banana with vanilla ice cream dessert as well and it's definitely for one to share with others as it was beautiful, yet a bit much for one person, which im not complaining. The ice cream was not overly sweet and didn't have an artificial vanilla flavor to it. Def would get again. Overall, definitely come by. We usually go to Ozora, so when we found out this restaurant has the same owner and many of the same rolls we love, we decided to give it a try and we're so glad we did! The food was just as delicious as we expected and the service really stood out. We visited with our three kids and the staff was incredibly kind and welcoming.
