I ordered the Ocean Wave form the menu it came with Onion Soup, Salad Filet Mignon and Scallops, a choice of Fried rice or steam rice, shrimp and grilled vegetables and ended with a scoop of ice cream. Went to Kimono's for a late lunch to celebrate a good friend's going away lunch. We had reservations for 3 PM and we arrived a few minutes early. The host asked if we wanted to sit at a table or at a grill even though our reservation was made to sit at the grill. We seated immediately he then brought other people to our table to fill up the space. The waitress came by to get our food and drink Orders, but it took 57 minutes for the chef to come out and start preparing our food. We ordered simple meals that were on the menu- steak, chicken, shrimp, and lobster. We ordered garlic fried rice substituting the steamed rice. The rice was very crunchy. The eggs were brown and overcooked probably because the grill was up too high. Everything had a hard sear on the outside, but the inside was not cooked. The steak was very flavorless. The shrimp were rubbery, and the dipping sauce is lacked flavor of ginger or mustard. The drinks were good and strong. For the price and considering the quality of the food and drinks, I can't say that this is a place I will return to. read more

The wait took a little longer than we had hoped, considering we had reservations at 5:30 for the grill and weren't seated until 6 and the chef didn't come out till around 6:30. Been here a couple times before and after a few years coming back they were still able to make the Bloody Mary meal I've had years ago. I would say if you would like to try it's, you can definitely request it even with it off the menu. We came by for an event close by and I wanted to revisit this location because of the food and service. It took 15 mins for anyone to greet us and 30 mins to receive our 1st course. 2nd course took 15mins, 3rd course took 30mins and 4 & 5 was 40mins. It starts with a soup, then salad, then there's cooked vegetables, fried rice (or you can order steam rice) your choice of protein, then dessert! I went to Kimono last night for the first time with a small group and had a terrible experience. The parking lot is small and difficult to access. When you walk through the door, you're in the bar which forms a relatively narrow walkway to get to the seating host, thus it was crowded and hard to pass by other patrons. Once we were finally seated for teppanyaki, we were able to order after a reasonable period of time. When the first course arrived (onion soup), we were shorted one bowl of soup. Then the salad came and we were shorted one salad (and still one soup). The excuse we were given was "Oh, sorry, we ran out of bowls." I'm unclear how a restaurant of that size can be "out of bowls" for such a long period of time when a commercial dishwasher completes its cycle in minutes. Our teppanyaki chef seemed to either be shy or having an off day. All the other chefs in the room were very engaging. We had two 10-year olds with us and they were far more engaged in watching the other chefs than ours. The only bright side was that the food was good. It wasn't as flavorful as other teppanyaki restaurants I've been to, but it wasn't bad and was sufficient in quantity. At the end of the meal, we were presented with the check which reflected inflated charges we were not expecting. They charged us $4 for a club soda (which costs them pennies as it comes from the soda machine). The server offered us the option of fried rice instead of steamed rice but did not explain that it would not be an "up charge" but a completely separate charge of $7.75 each. Only 3 of the 7 meals came with ice cream, but since the two kids didn't order directly from the kids menu, they were not offered what I consider a half scoop of ice cream. The server tried to insist that we would be charged $5.75 each for the tiny amount of "gourmet ice cream" for each of the two kids. This place is so not worth the astronomical amount of money they extracted from us. The food was good, not great, but you pay for the teppanyaki "show," which I feel we didn't really get. Expect to be nickeled and dimed if you go there. Truthfully, the only reason we ended up at Kimono was because both Benihana in Concord and Kobe in Pleasant Hill were fully booked. Next time we will plan better so that we can go to Kobe which is a FAR SUPERIOR experience than Kimono. read more

And getting water out. When I managed a restaurant in OR, I trained ALL my servers to bring the table water before their actual drink that they ordered.
