We arrived here for dinner, there were 4 of us in our party. Everyone in my group ordered a pop and a water. Not too long after another family was sat with us. Everyone ordered our food and then we waited. We got our drinks, but not once did anyone at our table receive a refill. Our server was noticeably absent, especially in this heat, we thought for sure cold drinks would be a priority to keep everyone safe and happy. The food presentation was great, the food was fantastic. I ordered the Rockys choice and got chicken fried rice as a upgrade. The steak was perfection! It all tasted so delicious! I brought most of the food home since the heat really calmed my appetite, and my husband devoured it within minutes of me getting home. He too commented on how amazing the steak was. Right after the last of our food was served, and we were really just getting into the food, our server appeared with to go boxes and asked us if we would want them, we all knew we would need boxes, but had really not had a moment to just eat as he handed us each our boxes and we awkwardly held them in our lap while we ate, and wondered where he went. Unfortunately, there is a 20% tip automatically included on the bill as they have posted on their door, so despite the bad service of the server making us feel rushed and dismissed, the tip is automatic. Overall: just know you are also paying for entertainment with your meal that is included in the prices. I ordered a chicken lunch to go, and it was $28! A similar hibachi lunch at literally any other place is usually $10-13, so doesn't seem worth it anymore, and as I mentioned I got it to go, so didn't tie up time with a chef and didn't get the benefit of the "show". They also still have a 20% up charge if you dine at a table with a chef but have removed that fee if you eat at the bar and bypass the show. read more

We celebrated my son's tenth birthday here, and while he had fun, the rest of us were mostly laughing on the way home at how poorly the night went. Once kids move past the age for this cruise ship style show, there is not much reason to return. It started with a rushed, impersonal check-in that felt more like a cattle call than a welcome. Dinner had multiple issues: missing ingredients, staff yelling across the kitchen for lighters and mushrooms, and to-go boxes handed out before we had even started eating. Our waiter and chef were kind and trying, but the whole place felt chaotic and mechanical. For a bill close to five hundred dollars, it did not feel like a special occasion. It felt like we were being processed. The twenty percent service charge, which in our case was over sixty dollars, was explained as not going to the staff. We were still expected to tip on top of that. It came off as management cost shifting. The food itself was delicious and our server was great! I love hibachi food and our experience here was on par with what I'd expect at Benihana. The downside is the confusing payment. Our server told us that the cooks got any tip on a credit card so we had to tip her server in cash. Obviously many of us didn't have cash , so we weren't sure what to do here. There was no option to add any sort of tip to the credit card, though. There was a 20% service fee on the credit card in addition to about $10 of other fees, but I guess none of these were the tip? The whole thing was confusing and it wasn't explained well. We had a reservation and everyone for that reservation was there on time and we were seated right away. This location is like most other locations. Cozy. With about eight seats around the table that has the big teppanyaki grill in the center. Placed our drink orders and got our waters. The service was a little slower just because of how busy they were. Placed our order for the entrees. Most of the entrees come with the soup and salad. Clear soup with onions and mushrooms. Tasty and a good palette cleanser to the before the meal. The salad come with a ginger sauce that is refreshing and on this day, it was very fresh and the lettuce very crisp. One of the best I have had at this location. We started with the appetizers, the zucchini, onions and shrimps are cooked fresh with garlic butter and soy sauce. Tasty. Especially with the sauces that are provided. Benihana has the best yum yum sauce in town. Ordered my standard entree, the deluxe treat, which is filet mignon and lobster. Always pay for the extra chicken fried rice. The food was cooked well and tasty, although I found it a little saltier than usual. Overall, this is a fun place to go with the family and even though can be a little expensive (prices have gone up as with everything else), its nice to have nice dinner and a show. read more

I've been going to Benihana for years, and this was easily my worst experience. At the door, we were asked to choose between two menus, but no one explained that choosing the lunch menu meant a completely different--and clearly lesser--experience. We weren't told that our rice would be pre-cooked, that food wouldn't be prepared at the grill, or that we wouldn't be allowed to add items, even on the side. The pre-cooked rice was brought out about 10 minutes before our meat and vegetables were even placed on the grill. Sitting at a hot grill only to receive pre-made food completely defeats the purpose of dining at Benihana. Our waiter was non-personal and inattentive, and the overall interaction made it feel like we were being treated differently because we ordered from a cheaper menu. I was dining with my child and had to get a booster seat myself while my child struggled and spilled food. The "45-minute quick lunch" felt rushed and impersonal, yet we were already there about that long with little progress. What used to feel like an experience now feels transactional and segmented. Worst ever "loyalty program". We have gone here year after year with our kids because they love their crap food full of butter. They changed their loyalty program last year and didn't send out emails to anyone and we made a reservation for 8 people and I called asking for the birthday loyalty program and that I didn't get an email when I made the reservation. I called and they said the new program doesn't have all our information so I would have to go online and resubmit my information and my kids but I wouldn't be qualified for the birthday rewards program at this time. This is the best Benihana in Minnesota in my opinion. It's the oldest location and it's almost like the flavor is just better than other locations I have gone. The Yum Yum sauce, Chicken Fried Rice, Mushroom & Onion soup, Steak/Chicken Combo, Teppanyaki Vegetables and the Ginger salad are all my favorites & go to whenever we visit as a family. Their sushi is also very good and fresh. I have always had great service here. All the cooks and servers are always so nice & attentive. Very accommodating. This is another favorite of mine that I can't wrap my ahead around how low of a star rating other reviewers give. I LOVE Benihana. Every year I bring a group of 8-10 to join me for a birthday meal. I think it would be unfair to compare this to other traditional steakhouses. But EVERY time I come here I have a wonderful time, great food, and I leave with a stomach on verge of overfull (its hard to not eat the entire meal unless you are disciplined and love leftovers). The fried rice is some of the best I've every had, the shrimp is delicious, and the yum yum sauce makes any entree you order AMAZING! Sure - the overall showmanship of the grill experience and recycled jokes are gimmicky, but I come here for the food. Be sure to take advantage of the Chef's Table program where you can get a free meal each year on your birthday (with the purchase of one entree by someone in your party). One complaint I do have is the surcharge post- COVID. I know some restaurants are including these types of fees and that they aren't meant to replace tips... But 20% is a high number to add to a bill... Perhaps it would be better to increase prices instead of "hiding" this cost and then also hoping a patron tips. on 9/24 we had celebrated a birthday party at the moa. It was not busy. The server came to our table 15 min later. Our food came to the table one persons meal at a time while each person sat and waited for 20 min at least to get their food. One person was done eating by the time we all received our good. The server placed extra glasses of waters for everyone on the table which we did not request or need making the table very crowded. We skipped the birthday ice cream as the server was not very pleasant. I did a review on open table and got a response back to contact them thru there web site which I did. This latest visit, the food was very good and the show was OK. What I noticed is how many people are involved in making the experience enjoyable. We had a team of five folks. And they did a good job. If you want something Medium.... Order it Medium Rare. Otherwise my Mignon was tasty. Chicken and shrimp yum. Son Brando seemed to dig his as well. Haven't been here? Visited here on thanksgiving with my husband. It was decently busy and seemed like most people there had made reservations, as did we. I'm rating 3 stars because of experience and organization. We made reservations and didn't get seated for 45 minutes. This was frustrating since we had other plans to follow dinner. My husband had to keep asking management what was going on and they seemed confused because others hadn't been seated yet too. We noticed several families leave because of the length of the wait and disorganization and confusion among the staff. We finally got seated and then it took 20 minutes before our meal even started. Again, frustrating. Three people left our table because of the wait and what seemed to be a lack of communication. I'm not sure if they were short staffed but management didn't offer any thoughts around what was going on. When we finally got served our waitress asked what we wanted for drinks. My husband and I asked for a specialty cocktail each and she wouldn't serve my husband because his license was expired by 2 days lol. I thought that was ridiculous and had never had this happen before, especially on a holiday. From service to the massive disorganization among the staff this is my least favorite Benihana's. I like to visit the MOA one but we were t able to get seating for the time needed. The service surcharge was unexpected and confusing to leave gratuity for the staff. The signage does not share how much any of the waitstaff and chefs receive from the 20%. Also, they do not accept gratuity on credit cards, which made it impossible to tip our service staff any additional money, as I did not have cash. So disappointed to walk away without being able to leave them their earned gratuity. Please Benihana make a greater effort to be clear about the percentages given to staff and allow other forms of tips to be collected. read more
