Our dining experience at Kobe Japanese restaurant in Plymouth was one of the best hibachi experiences I've had in a minute! My party and I were greeted right away with a smile.It was nice to see someone that could be potentially targeted by ICE,with a smile on their face for once during these chaotic times in Minnesota.The waitresses were friendly,attentive and engaging the entire time and this made us feel welcome.Celebrating all three of our birthdays this month...some of the staff came out and sang happy birthday to my party and I. The food was cooked to perfection and filled with flavor..unlike some hibachi places.The seasonings of soy sauce were balanced.I had the steak and shrimp which honestly was like butter...so tender! Staff were friendly but nothing particularly memorable, some were just standing around chatting waiting for the rush to hit. I got the avocado roll and sweet potato roll, my husband got tuna and salmon rolls. All were great but again, nothing terribly special (nothing to bring us back again). The restaurant itself is nice and appeared clean. I would prefer if giant TVs weren't everywhere, very distracting but some folks like that. read more

Hubby and I recently became obsessed with Hibachi. In our "hibachi tours" we found Kobe. After eating there once, we're hooked. no more overpriced "B" hibachi for us anymore. The prices are good and the food is always on point. We've been going once a month for the past few months. We always have food left over for a second meal. Definitely worth the visit! read more

Overall good - 4 stars. FOOD: My food was good. I ordered 3 tuna based sushi rolls. Two of my rolls were standard type rolls. One of my rolls was a large "specialty" roll. All three rolls had great flavors and they came out fast, more speedy than usual. SERVICE: As usual, the service was excellent. I had a small glitch in the beginning. I stood around in front for quite a while without being noticed. Lots of employees walked by & saw me but I was still left standing. I finally walked in, I got the sushi chef to take his headphones off, and I asked him if I could sit at the bar. Everything was great once I was officially recognized as a customer. I had to laugh, however, because they have a million security cameras all over the place, a bunch outside and even more inside. Yet...despite a million cameras...no one saw me standing around and pacing for 10 minutes. Why have cameras if no one pays attention? Funny! DECOR: The first thing I noticed about Kobe is it's HUGE. The square footage is impressive and they have very high ceilings. They have nice design throughout, lots of dark colors with bright accents. I particularly like the small koi pond in front. No touching the koi (see photo). I also like the hundreds of customer photographs covering the walls in the front entryway. Cool! LOW CARBOHYDRATE: It's easy to eat low-carb, keto, carnivore style at Kobe. I usually stick with tuna based rolls, a simple soup, and/or a meat based appetizer. I avoid large rice portions, mountains of noodles, and anything that might be hiding sugar or vegetable seed oils. I messed up this time though. I ordered the BMW roll, which is GIANT, easily 2 or 3 times bigger than a typical sushi roll. Plus it's deep fried in vegetable seed oil! I knew better. But like a dummy, I ate the whole thing. By the time I got home, I felt horrible. Oh, well. The flavor was great but I should have abstained from large starch portions and from bulky food items boiled in seed oils. Sushi and rolls are fresh and delicious. Large variety of specialty rolls - the Pink Lady roll is absolutely delicious. I haven't tried any of the hibachi meals, but people at the tables always seem to be enjoying themselves. Nice ambiance and great service. I was visiting from Wisconsin and came to Kobe with a couple colleagues from work. On a positive note, the food itself was quite good. I got the teriyaki chicken bento box and everything that came with it was tasty and an overall good portion. Another person in the party overall liked the sushi they got. The place is reasonably well-decorated and clean looking. The staff was decently pleasant. However, I cannot give them a positive review because of one bad experience that happened. One of my colleagues is vegetarian, which she made clear up front and asked for help picking out some sushi rolls that are vegetarian-friendly. The server pointed out a handful of rolls that are vegetarian. When the plate arrived, half of them had imitation crab in them. My colleague questioned the server on it, who insisted that the imitation crab is vegetarian. All three of us have had imitation crab countless times in our life - this looked and tasted like your standard white sticks with the reddish-color outer layer. My colleague asked the server to make sure. She came back later and said the cook and manager "confirmed" it. She both said that it's 'flour that's shaped and then flavored to taste like crab' and also that they purchase it (versus making it themselves). I can say with 90% certainty that what was in those rolls was the standard imitation crab that you can buy, that is made out of fish. That I've had my whole life. We've done web searches to see if there are vegetarian ones option there and just not finding it. If we are correct, that is unacceptable, doubly so given how insistent they were. I think they literally just think 'imitation crab' = not meat. Luckily, my colleague doesn't have a medical reason to be vegetarian, but this sort of misinformation could be dangerous. read more

I give a full 4 stars for happy hour, but the 3 is for the execution of the rolls and dishes. The ingredients were there but execution of the dishes were not quite there. Was welcomed warmly by hostess and sat quickly. Servers were knowledgeable, attentive and friendly without being overbearing. Never needed to ask for water, more drinks, the bill, nothing. It was like they knew what I was wanting before I had to ask! 5 stars for service! The roll that I got had WAAY too much cucumber to the small portion of fish that was wrapped with it. All I could taste was cucumber in a roll that had shrimp tempura, two types of fish, cucumber and some eel sauce (I cannot remember the name!!!) and cost $15. Disappointed. Additionally, the agedashi tofu was a disappointment. The coating was slimy and fell off the second I tried to pick it up with the chopsticks. Do not get me wrong: the tofu was great, coating TASTED good, the dipping sauce was good but the execution was lost with the slimy soggy coating. I know that agedashi is to have some of that texture, but not so completely that you cannot pick it up with chopsticks without the casing sliding off the tofu. Miso soup was good, not too salty or skimping on the fixings, and the QUALITY of the nigiri (had tamago, tobiko, shake, escolar and maguro) was good too. Again the fish quality is sooo good. My only complaint is that the ratio of fish to rice on the nigiri was a little topsy turvy towards the rice. The happy hour is also a great one with great prices on both food and drinks, including non sushi items. All in all, the three stars are mainly for execution of specialty rolls and dishes, not due to the quality of the dishes or service, which was satisfactory. read more

I used to go to Kobe's regularly pre Covid. I haven't dined in the restaurant in a long time. My son wanted sushi so we went. The service was fairly good but food came out at irregular intervals. The shrimp fried rice had 3 shrimp, that's it. The rolls actually seemed better quality then pre Covid. Didn't see happy hour so the bill was pretty hefty. $80 for 6 rolls and fried rice plus 2 sodas. read more

We came here tonight with 10 of us for my sons birthday- EVERYTHING was so amazing! We started at the bar as we wait for our table and guests to arrive- the manager was great! 10/10 for the sushi but our hibachi chef was the worst. Worst birthday experience here. Someone he recognized sat at our table, and the chef spent all of the time talking to him. We didn't get a show as you would normally get at a hibachi place, and he didn't season the food properly as the meal want his priority that day. The chef discussed too much of his personal life with his friend and it was so uncomfortable. Half of my chicken was season while the other half had no flavor. Same can be said for the rest of the food. He completely ignore the rest of us to talk to his one friend while crazily making our meal so poorly. Instead of dividing the extra food that's left over from the hibachi experience, he just gave it all to his buddy. He clearly had a favorite customer that day. Thoroughly dissappointed with this place after tonight. Apparently Kobe is running somewhat of a scam for birthday offers. So i was told for my birthday I could get $30 off of my meal for the birthday offer. But after receiving the bill, I noticed that they automatically added an 18% tip to the bill, coincidentally equaling out to the $30 dollars off that they offer you for the birthday offer! So it's really not a discount and highly deceptive. I have been going to Kobe for over a decade and after this, I won't ever go back. I haven't eaten at a Japanese steakhouse in a long time so I was excited to go here. Service was fast and good, but my main problem is the menu. Up charging $4 for fried rice is a bit insane. I've eaten at Japanese steakhouses all over the US and never heard of this. I think if you have to pay $4 more for fried rice, you'd better give me a plate full. Would I go back? Probably not unless they got rid of that stupid up charge. The ambience is nice and the staff is nice. It's just sad that such a nice place with nice staff is possibly hurting itself with this ridiculous up charge that people are not going to keep coming back to pay. We've come here for birthdays like 3 years in a row! What I love about Kobe is that you can eat at Hibatchi, but if you aren't a big party and don't want to sit by strangers, you can opt for a regular table but still get the same meal as hibatchi. I would say it's a very family friendly restaurant with several hibatchi tables with decent service and really good food! We just came for my 23d birthday, and were seated very quickly. I will say the service was slow and sometimes it is hard to understand what the servers are saying, especially when it's busy and loud. She brought us the soup and salad right away as well as our drinks. Since it was a Thursday, they didn't seem to be busy, and as a result had very few hibatchi chefs available. We ended up having to wait 5-10 minutes for the chef to come over, but once he did he started up fast. He did all the usual fun things, the onion train, spatula spins and egg tricks. The food is my favorite part of the experience, the fried rice is always so good, and you can never go wrong with the yum yum sauce. I will say sometimes the vegetables are hit or miss, I prefer vegetables be cooked a little more than they cook them sometimes. But it really depends on who cooks them, sometimes they are pretty hard and sometimes they are well cooked, this most recent time they were a little hard in my opinion, but again it just depends how you like them cooked. I pretty much always get the chicken and filet mignon, and have never been disappointed! The only downside is when several people get the same thing, sometimes one person will get a really big portion of one thing and a smaller one of the other. My mom usually gets what I do and they will give her more of the steak and me more of the chicken or vice versa. Not a huge deal but we both noticed it and thought it was a little bummer if you were hoping for more of one or the other. But by the time the chefs done, your plate is so full you hardly notice! I have think every time we have gone I have left with enough leftovers for another meal which is awesome!! Overall, we love this place. We will probably be coming next year for birthdays as they actually help you celebrate and it's just a fun atmosphere! We've never had bad food or thought it was cooked poorly, and eating at the hibatchi is so fun. We feel the price is decent depending what you get, but we always have leftovers which is awesome! Kobe in Plymouth is a great place to get sushi, hibachi, and a fun atmosphere for an affordable price. It's a great place to go with your family or a group of friends and wether you choose the site down option or the hibachi it's fun for everyone. My wife, me and our family ate here last night for a birthday party and we had a ton of fun. The restaurant is really well designed and is a cool place to eat. Upon entering the inside doors you are welcomed to picutres covering the walls of past people eating there and it makes the restaurant feel very inviting. Then once you pass through those doors to the main restaurant there is a beautiful fountain inside next to the hosts desk. They then bring you to a hibachi station, your table, or the bat based on your choice. The hibachi table fits a good number of people, around 8 to 10, and our family of 6 fit comfortably at it. The restaurant has a great decor and style. The chairs are comfortable and everyone had a good time sitting there. The only problem is its hard to talk to everyone when they're on the other side of the table. The food and service kind of go hand in hand because it is prepared in front of you. Our chef was very friendly and funny. He did all the usually tricks like the big flame, the egg in the pocket, and the onion volcano. We had a blast with him and he had all of us smiling throughout the meal. He also cooked our food very well. We got fried rice, chicken, shrimp, and steak. Everything was cooked to how we wanted it and the quality of the food was great! Everything was very tasty and none of us were dissapointed. We also got some blue Hawaiians that were very sweet and delectable. They went perfect with the meal! As a side note for your birthday they put a mask on you and sing you happy birthday while they bang on a drum. It's a pretty fun experience for everyone. For going through the embarrassment for wearing the mask you are rewarded fried ice cream! It's pretty good and makes you leave happy. Overall we had a great experience here. We ordered a shrimp udon dish expecting a sumptuous stir fry of thick luscious udon noodles, vegetables and plump little crustaceans. What arrived couldn't have been further from our hopes. Before us layed a horrendous pile of haphazardly plated mush at top which sat three sad curled up shrimps. Shocked, we asked our genteel server if a mistake had happened in the kitchen and inquired why our $18 shrimp stir fry came with only 3 pieces. We were aghast when informed that this was how the dish was meant to be and that it hasn't changed for the past 13 years that the restaurant had been open. Within 2 minutes of being there the cook had been staring and decided to basically make a homophobic comment asking If I am a boy or a girl and then continued to laugh at his comment even after we were obviously uncomfortable and barely even recognizing how unacceptable that is. Asked for a new cook before he had even started preparing and were turned down immediately basically it was pay for the apps and go somewhere else or suck it up. it was someone's birthday we drove from Wisconsin and it completely down spiraled the whole meal. They handled the situation is every wrong way possible and regardless of how well you can cook that'll never make up for such an unsatisfactory experience. So good! I've been here twice now and it never disappoints! First time we split a sushi boat, the small one for $49. It was enormous and we couldn't finish it albeit we tried! There was tuna, salmon, yellow tail, shrimp, octopus, halibut and another white fish which might have been white tuna. All shashimi. Then there was a few pieces of sushi and 2 rolls. Spicy tuna and California. We also split the fried rice. With our bulging bellies we decided we ate like kings for a little over $50, this could become a regular date night spot! As we visit the area often from San Diego (kids/grandkids live in the area), we used to think Kobe was a nice place to come. We feel it is on a downward slide, but tried again last Friday. The salmon skin did not taste fresh so we wanted to try a Hibachi dinner. Seeing the huge pile of rice on another patron's plate (covered 1/2 the plate) and since we like lower carb, we asked if we could get double vegetables vs. the rice. The answer was simply "no, we don't do that" - we've been in sushi restaurants around the world - first we've ever heard that. So, we tried the calamari - what a joke - miniature, deep fried grease balls. We then asked about sushi and she ("Rose") said that each piece was $4.00 and each piece was on small bite of sushi. Wow, that's crazy. So, we finished our bottle of wine with some edamame and went back to our hotel and had a salad. Really sorry to see this diminished quality and service as there is little to choose from the in the area. read more
