Overall good - 4 stars. FOOD: My food was good. I ordered 3 tuna based sushi rolls. Two of my rolls were standard type rolls. One of my rolls was a large "specialty" roll. All three rolls had great flavors and they came out fast, more speedy than usual. SERVICE: As usual, the service was excellent. I had a small glitch in the beginning. I stood around in front for quite a while without being noticed. Lots of employees walked by & saw me but I was still left standing. I finally walked in, I got the sushi chef to take his headphones off, and I asked him if I could sit at the bar. Everything was great once I was officially recognized as a customer. I had to laugh, however, because they have a million security cameras all over the place, a bunch outside and even more inside. Yet...despite a million cameras...no one saw me standing around and pacing for 10 minutes. Why have cameras if no one pays attention? Funny! DECOR: The first thing I noticed about Kobe is it's HUGE. The square footage is impressive and they have very high ceilings. They have nice design throughout, lots of dark colors with bright accents. I particularly like the small koi pond in front. No touching the koi (see photo). I also like the hundreds of customer photographs covering the walls in the front entryway. Cool! LOW CARBOHYDRATE: It's easy to eat low-carb, keto, carnivore style at Kobe. I usually stick with tuna based rolls, a simple soup, and/or a meat based appetizer. I avoid large rice portions, mountains of noodles, and anything that might be hiding sugar or vegetable seed oils. I messed up this time though. I ordered the BMW roll, which is GIANT, easily 2 or 3 times bigger than a typical sushi roll. Plus it's deep fried in vegetable seed oil! I knew better. But like a dummy, I ate the whole thing. By the time I got home, I felt horrible. Oh, well. The flavor was great but I should have abstained from large starch portions and from bulky food items boiled in seed oils. Overall, a good experience. I'd go back again any time. -Maxx

Sushi rolls were good, large size for the price which was kind of steep. Summer roll and Fall roll, were delicious. Yaki Udon with chicken- a little too salty and the chicken pieces were small. The texture could have been better. Service was nice.

I give a full 4 stars for happy hour, but the 3 is for the execution of the rolls and dishes. The ingredients were there but execution of the dishes were not quite there. Was welcomed warmly by hostess and sat quickly. Servers were knowledgeable, attentive and friendly without being overbearing. Never needed to ask for water, more drinks, the bill, nothing. It was like they knew what I was wanting before I had to ask! 5 stars for service! The roll that I got had WAAY too much cucumber to the small portion of fish that was wrapped with it. All I could taste was cucumber in a roll that had shrimp tempura, two types of fish, cucumber and some eel sauce (I cannot remember the name!!!) and cost $15. Disappointed. Additionally, the agedashi tofu was a disappointment. The coating was slimy and fell off the second I tried to pick it up with the chopsticks. Do not get me wrong: the tofu was great, coating TASTED good, the dipping sauce was good but the execution was lost with the slimy soggy coating. I know that agedashi is to have some of that texture, but not so completely that you cannot pick it up with chopsticks without the casing sliding off the tofu. Miso soup was good, not too salty or skimping on the fixings, and the QUALITY of the nigiri (had tamago, tobiko, shake, escolar and maguro) was good too. Again the fish quality is sooo good. My only complaint is that the ratio of fish to rice on the nigiri was a little topsy turvy towards the rice. The happy hour is also a great one with great prices on both food and drinks, including non sushi items. All in all, the three stars are mainly for execution of specialty rolls and dishes, not due to the quality of the dishes or service, which was satisfactory.

The Yaki udon was so salty it was hard to swallow and the sushi had no taste whatsoever. Giving two stars because at least the service was good.

After seeing so many 5 star reviews I was curious if it would live up to the hype... it definitely does!! Service was fantastic and very attentive. We were given a description of the various cuts of meat which helped us decide what to try. My table ordered a domestic wagyu zabuton steak and a picanha steak. For sides we ordered the Caesar salad, grilled mushrooms and the tallow fries. The Caesar salad came out first. This dish set the bar high. It has a unique blend of herbs and spices adorning a bed of crunchy romaine and fried oysters that elevated this dish. Must try if you are in the mood for a salad. The steaks and sides came out next and were shareable. Between the two steaks the wagyu was the better choice. Melt in your mouth and seasoned to perfection. The picanha had great flavor but was definitely tough to cut. I'll just order the wagyu next time. The steaks come with a side of sauce. We ordered the chimichurri and llagua. I liked the chimichurri the best between these sauces. The mushrooms were marinated so well and had a rich umami flavor. The tallow fries were crispy and salty. I would get either of these sides again. We finished our dinner with the "burnt" cheesecake. Which featured strawberry rhubarb compote on top. Save room for this desert! It was so good! We went on a busy Saturday night and found parking in a nearby garage. They offer valet but we didn't notice it until we had already parked. I think the valet was cheaper than the parking we found so might as well utilize that service unless you find something farther away.

Friendly, attentive, and just overall met all the needs of a birthday celebration. It was acknowledged by the host, wait staff, and before arriving when calling to confirm the reservation. This all was an extra stepped that took the reservation to the next level. Not to mention, a birthday card was given when we were seated. AMBIANCE: comfortable and spatious. We arrived around 5:30 p.m., about 30 minutes after opening. The room was dark, cramped, and louder than the small space can really support. The playlist was distracting, and the kitchen staff audibly singing along did not help the atmosphere. Service was well-intentioned but missed the mark. Our server could not tell us whether the main component of a dish was cucumber, fennel, both, or something else, which is a basic menu question at this price point. Timing was off throughout the meal, so if you are expecting polished, well-paced service, I would look elsewhere. The food was the biggest disappointment. I could see an attempt at creativity, but the dishes felt more confused than composed. Several flavors landed at extremes: too sweet, too spicy, or too heavy on fishy funk, without enough balance to pull them together. It felt like "fusion" without a clear point of view. Parking is also difficult in this part of the North Loop, so plan for a ramp, valet, or extra time and money. I would not return for happy hour, dinner, a hosted meal, or a special occasion.

It's comfortable without being fussy, and the room feels like it's been doing this a long time. Because it has. The dry-aged ribeye (80+ days) was outstanding. Deep, complex, perfectly cooked. This is what aged beef is supposed to taste like. The shrimp cocktail starter was equally solid: big, clean, classic. Where it slipped for me was the sides. Both arrived barely above room temperature. The baked potato had none of the crispy skin or fluffy interior you expect. It tasted like it was steamed at 10am and sat in a tray until dinner service. The pie was fine but also lukewarm, with no crispness to speak of. Service was friendly but attention was clearly going to the larger parties in the room. Bottom line:I'm going back. The steak alone earns it. Next time I'm skipping the sides and doubling down on the appetizers.

The restaurant itself is really beautiful and it's also very big. I guessed 200 seats plus patio. The space is very elegant, and clearly a lot of attention went into the design. I would describe it as kind of modern steakhouse vibe. Dark wood, faux fur and leather finishes, etc. Elegant. We were seated at a booth by the bar with a big window view of the patio and parking lot. We were immediately slightly offput because the marble ledge separating the booth from the window was dirty - grease and little food crumbs. Not the best first impression. The booth and table were both clean though. Our waitress, Ash, did provide good service but I would say honestly she was a bit too attentive if that makes sense, and she was also too chatty for us. There were several times when she lingered at our table to tell us something we didn't inquire about or to just talk about something. It was a bit annoying honestly. But the service itself was good. We were also visited by a manager during our visit. We each got a mocktail (it was lunch) but they have an impressive drink menu. I got the Red Rose which was really tasty, and my husband got the pineapple drink, which he also said was good. -We ordered the chimichuri shrimp appetizer, which was pretty banging. Four really large shrimp, each on its own piece of bruschetta, doused in chimichuri sauce. Even for me, with a low spice tolerance, it was just the right amount of spice and it was really really good. -We also got a round of oysters. The oysters themselves were fresh - no complaints there. When they were delivered to our table, the person did not tell us which variety was which (pretty standard when serving oysters at any restaurant). Because we eat oysters a lot and one of the varieties was sweet petite, it was fairly easy to tell which was which. But in my opinion, there should have been information given when the oysters were served. The other big issue was the shucking. Some of the oysters hadn't been fully separated from the shell, and we both found ourselves picking bits of shell from our mouths. We actually had a little discussion about the $6 price tag. I felt it was reasonable, my husband felt it was high. But for $6 apiece, the oysters need to be shucked properly and these were not. Ash also made a point to tell us all kinds of information we didn't ask for about their happy hour, which includes $3 oysters. That would be a steal if they learn how to shuck them. -I got the half french dip sandwich, and I was really glad I just ordered the half because what I was served was totally a whole sandwich in my book. The accompanying fries were delicious, crispy, deep golden brown and hot. The au jus served with the sandwich was slightly on the salty side but not terrible. And I do realize it's au jus. In all it was a pretty decent sandwich. -Hubby got the sea bass sandwich, which was also pretty tasty. I'll be honest and say that I think the entree sea bass would have been better. The fish was so good that I don't honestly think you needed the bun. But it was really good and fresh and delicious. We skipped dessert. In all, a pretty solid dining experience and the food was very good. But it was the minor things mentioned that bothered us, so 3 stars with room for improvement upon our return.
