Well...this was my second experience, however, the experience was vastly different from my first. Reservation was made, all parties arrived on time. Sign on the reservation counter states "reservation times may vary, due to chef availability ". So we waited about 20-30 min. We were finally escorted to our table with two other parties of two. The seating was extremely cramped. We informed our seating hostess, who was grumpy, and she responder "we'd wait longer if we didn't want to sit there, and then referenced the other table had 11 people". This I felt was rude, as the other party was all from the same group, therefore familiar with each other. They also didn't have a handicapped person or tall people who need extra room. Our server Kaylani was excellent!!! She made the experience tolerable because she was attentive and very courteous. Upon leaving, we did informer the manager, who gave us 2 complimentary appetizers, should we return again. The manager thanked us for the feedback and said they'd do better. Also note: There is a dress code from my understanding. Should you visit this location, ask for Kaylani you'll be served well. read more

Went to this location for my Mom's birthday and it was full of disappointment. We walked in. The hostess took us to our table/cooktop. Dirty dishes stacked on other tables. Floor was filthy and grimy. At our table was one guy with a bloody patch on one eye and another guy with a trac tube who was gurgling and spitting phlegm. Dawn and I looked at each other, got up and thanked the hostess on our way out. Hostess acted like walking out happens more often than not. read more

Dirty. Fruit flies everywhere, bathroom gross. Glasses disgusting. I tell the waitress and she said it's just the glass...I was then able to clean the dirt off with a napkin. Portion sizes are horrible. read more

My husband and I ate here and this was my first time ever at a Benihana restaurant. I must say the food was great! Our chef I think her name was Betty, she was awesome she had a good vibe and her skills were on point. Not sure what our waiters name was but he did a good job seeing that the restaurant was pretty busy. The floors could have been a bit more swept, but overall it was a nice evening, I would dine again here. read more

My server was amazing. However, the salmon on my spicy salmon roll tasted awful! There was a black floating object in my lemon drop drink. It's always hot every time we visit. I understand it's a hibachi place it I've been several other places where the temperature wasn't as hot as it is at this location. I shouldn't be sweating eating my food & neither should my 2 month old baby. ON TOP OF IT ALL THERE IS VISIBLE MOLD GROWING ON THE CEILINGS!! I have pictures to prove it. This place has gone down hill. I used to love coming here as a kid and now their food is just disgusting. I ordered chicken fried rice to go and I specifically asked for it to be fresh. On top of that we asked that the table be cleaned off and the sever said it was just that the table was damaged but really it had something on top that was not cleaned off . . The greeter when you come in and you ask to be seated was not all that nice.... Well any how I will not let this One bad Benihana location !!!!' Its nice to visit this place again. Food is good and lunch specials available. Manager came to check on and to see if we were good with our meal. The boat special is always a treat, you get to sample a little bit of everything including sashimi. I normally don't eat sashimi but with this lunch special, I do enjoy it. Restrooms are not clean. Justin was our chef and he did poorly. There was no show, no jokes, no skills, he didn't even talk. It was an awkward interaction. The extraction fan was not working, so the constant and excessive smoke made the experience even worse. The food is not the main appeal of this place, so i would expect everything else to make up for it. It does not. Our waiter kept missing and the request of the table were often ignored, yet the include a gratuity fee even and ask for tip. Our party was of 2. We had a vegetarian with us. The waitress said that they had no vegetarian entrees as they were out of both Tofu and noodles? Benihana had no tofu? No noodles? Really? The food we did get was not great, and not what one would expect from a known restaurant like Benihana. I know the chain was once known for quality, but this was just sad. Nah. This was a big nope. Wouldn't go back. I went for a birthday dinner and we got there as they were opening again. We were probably the 2nd group to be seated, so why did they seat us at a table where the a/c was leaking from the ceiling? We'd made a reservation and they knowingly set up our tableware here. They didn't move us until we asked. Our chef was okay. He did tricks and stuff. Our waiter was good, he was very attentive and helpful with our menu. The food was very meh. For this to be a "higher end" establishment (and the prices reflect it) the food did NOT meet the standard. Also, the "dress code" non-existent. Which was frustrating as someone who would rather be in comfy lounge wear. I saw every single "don't" on their dress code I've been told that other locations are completely different and better, I'm not sure if I'm willing to chance it. We have been to many Benihanas and ordered takeout from multiple around Houston and Dallas. We ordered from UberEats recently and had a horrible experience. We ordered the Land 'N Sea meal, Twin Lobster Tails meal, and the striped bass nigiri. For both meals, we paid extra for the chicken hibachi fried rice. It was lackluster to say the least. The lobster and steak were okay, the scallops tasted like obviously pre-frozen scallops that were cooked, and the rice was horrendous. It was such low quality--keep in mind we paid over $115 for the whole meal. The striped bass nigiri was so thick, I could not eat it, so it was money wasted. Overall, never ordering from here again and probably not going to visit it ever. read more

I've ordered delivery from this location 3 times. Every single time, those orders were a minimum of 35 minutes PAST the promised delivery time window. I thought I'd try takeout instead, (ignorantly) hoping it would run more efficiently. I was wrong. Benihana said my order would require 48 minutes to prepare and would be ready for pickup at 8:05 PM. When I arrived at 8:10 PM, I was told they needed FIFTEEN more minutes to make my fried rice. 15 additional minutes. So that's an hour and two minutes to make one sushi roll and some fried rice. 1 hour and 2 minutes!!! I've concluded that this location is NEVER ON TIME. The food is decent, not remarkable in any specific way. But know that you'll need to give them a minimum of 75 minutes! Because no matter the day you order nor the time you order, the houston downtown location will be delayed! read more
