Came here with a group of 9 people and made reservations over the phone. We got a hibachi table and our server came by to get our drink orders. She was friendly, but as the night went on service got worse and worse. It must be nice to add gratuity and not have to work on service. Our hibachi chef was non-interactive. He just had an annoyed look on his face the whole time he was cooking. We got our drink orders after we were midway done with our food and the white rice never came out until the end of the meal. How is that acceptable? Food was horrendous. I asked for medium rare on my meat and it came out medium. The shrimp was rubbery and the scallop was overcooked. Everything was bland. Where is the seasoning? Nothing tasted good. Even the rice was overcooked. How do you mess that up? I'm not a huge fan of hibachi because it's overpriced for bad food, but it was a bridal shower and the girl chose this place. I ordered through Uber eats & the food quality was almost equivalent to eating in the restaurant. The packaging of all the sides and sauces is separated in different containers and is plentiful. I would say you get the same portion. The hibachi chicken 5 course meal is amazing (even to-go)! The salad dressing is my favorite. Note: you will have to reheat the soup (it does arrive warm but provides instructions to heat using microwave or sauce pan). The chicken fried rice is to die for and worth it every time (huge portion & came hot)! They also included two soy sauces and utensils without me specifying. Great option if you are staying at Hyatt regency in downtown; however, walk across the street rather than Uber eats even if it is late at night...the restaurant is right next to the valet entrance of the hotel (safe in my opinion). read more

This is by far the lowest of the totem pole for me as hibachi goes. Maybe it's the location because I've been to the one in San Diego California and Westheimer location and they are so much better. Our waitress didn't pay us any attention i guess due to how "young" we appeared to be (she was much older). By far the dirtiest Benihana ever. It had a strong urine oder as soon as you walked it. Most of the chairs have rips and holes in them. The hibachi grill has food the the creases. I had to ask the waiter the wipe the table down because there was food stuck on there. I wiped the table with hand sanitizer and a napkin. It was very black after wiping. Not ever going back. I came here at lunch without reservation. I had to wait but it was not too long. The food I got was just OK, not too impressive. The waitress ( I don't know her name) was very rude! I had never met a waitress that had attitude with customer like her! this the worst benihanna I've ever visited. Not only is restaurant dirty the staff is terrible. I've gone three different times... the first time I made a reservation at 7 and we didn't get sat till 7:50. they sat us in the way back and it was so hot back there that I couldn't enjoy my meal my entire family could hardly breath from the smoke and lack of air circulation. The second time we were told that the problem was fix and they offered to sit us towards the front of the restaurant. everything was Fine until liquid from the ceiling began dropping on my head - it also dropped in OUR FOOD. we talked to manager andi and he remained completely apathetic about the entire situation. he didn't put In effort to accommodate us and told us if we wanted to move it'll be an hour wait. the third and very last time we went. things went along relatively quickly - but to our surprise the restrooms were broken. we were forced to walked to the back of the kitchen if we needed to use the restroom. as the manager escorts us to the back of the kitchen you see puddles of water among the floors, trash cans stacked with trash, prepped food out in the open, everything was completely filthy! surprisingly that wasn't the worst part of the night - the restrooms at the front of the restaurant began flooding which left the front part of the restaurant smelling like cat piss and Newports. to add to my surprise THEY FAILED THEIR HEALTH INSPECTION which isn't a surprised at all after what my family and I experience. never go to this location. its dirty they're understaffed and never have anything in stock/prepared. read more

I went to lunch with a group of coworkers, and we all had a great time. I mean The food was alright, plus the service was OK, but the overall experience wasn't outstanding. Here are the details: Service: I think the hostess could tone down her voice a little. As I walked into the restaurant, and she was asking or rather screaming at us to find out how many in our party and where we would like to sit -- the bar area or Hibachi table. Our waitress was alright, but perhaps just a tad slow. Food: When you eat here it wasn't really so much about food but rather about the showmanship of your chef. Well, our chef was a lady, but she got 'showmanship' in her Benihana culinary skills. She demonstrated the knife and spatula juggling routine, the choo-choo train, the heart fried rice, and many more. I think she was trained well in the art of corny Hibachi jokes. We all laughed at them to encourage her performance. Besides all the entertainment, the food was alright. I opted for Spicy Hibachi Chicken from the lunch menu. I got soup, side veggies, and Spicy Hibachi Chicken for about $12-14 plus all the jokes from our chef. Ambiance: This place needed an upgrade 10 years ago. The grill tables area was little dark, but the lounge area that I usually frequented was bright. The restroom was very clean so kudos to management on that. All and all, we all had a decent time. The Hibachi experience was alright when you dine here every once in a while. My rating was 3.5 stars, but I did a Yelp round-down to a 3-star rating. read more

Not sure if it was because we decided to skip the hibachi experience and sit regular dining (either way should not effect food quality) but I definitely left feeling dissatisfied. Ordered the steak 5 course hibachi, my soup and salad were fine not much room for mess ups there. When it came to the actual entree, first bite of my vegetables and they were cold not even warm. I would have sent back immediately if I wasn't so hungry and luckily the rest of my food was actually warm. The steak and rice lacked flavor I was forced to douse them both in the two side sauces. As for service they could use some more servers on floor. Luckily we showed up right before the dinner crowd, but we definitely noticed other guests impatiently looking around to be helped as time passed. Overall 5/10. EVERY time I come in here for lunch (it's usually a workday celebratory lunch - a birthday, etc.), I get frustrated. Things that shouldn't take forever, take forever. Let me first start off by saying, Chanrika, if I were to go back, is the only reason I will go back. She is an amazingly attentive and fun waitress. She was a blast from start to finish, a great sense of humor and even took our pictures to make the night memorable. I had always heard of Benihana, was excited to finally be in a place that had one. Upon entering, we were asked by a non-smiling female hostess did we have reservations, which we did. She said it would still be a wait, to which we were ok. Not once did she ask the guest who were visibly hot, if she could get a glass of water. I finally asked if I could have a glass, to which she just walked away without acknowledging me. She did bring back a glass, with the straw already in it and there were little floaties in it. The chef didn't perform, as expected when going to a hibachi restaurant. The food had no taste at all. The shrimp was rubbery and suspect, as he put on the grill only for about 5 mins and it still appeared raw, to which I did not eat. The entry way is run down and looks like it could use new seats and fresh paint. The menus had not been wiped down and had grease stains from previous guest. Huge disappointment! read more

Benihana received a shout out from Tracy Morgan on 30Rock and the brand was immortalized in the best tweet ever (that was quickly deleted) from Rep. Keith Ellison's twitter account simply stating "hell yeah benihana up in this bitch" so their pop culture staying power is hella strong. This is a chain that is the same anywhere you go in the world - you know what you are getting, and you know what you are getting is fantastic. It's relatively expensive compared against a nice night out in the Panda Express drive-thru, but you are getting different things, friend. Benihana is dinner and a show. The atmosphere is nice - upper middle class nice-night-out without being pretentious. It's not one of those whacky gourmand menus where you need to translate sixteen different Elvish dialects to figure out you are eating some chicken with a Mrs Dash rub and matchstick carrots that are $45. The food quality is one of the main selling points of the place, besides the show you get. It's an equivalent of the Fogo de Chao. It's not supermarket bargain bucket materials you end up paying 900x the price of to prop up their expensive real estate, unlike some restaurants downtown. If you need a good meal, you get it here. Always worth a visit when you need some Benihana up in this bitch - bring the appetite and they will bring the eau di hibachi to marinate your clothes as you savor the food with your mouth. Everyone will know you have been here - and they will be mighty jealous when they smell it on you for the next week or so. Highly recommended for a casual, no-worries-dinner out on the town. Any town they have a spot, really. But this one downtown especially. read more
