For those of you thinking that my carry-out experience may have been bad due to the 3 miles I had to drive home, but I've carried out a LOT of pies from a LOT of locations, and I DO take that into account. There are a lot of great pepperonis in the area. The doneness was great. It wasn't over- or undercooked. The flavor was good, but not, as some have said, amazing. In both cases, the crust was limp and soggy, NOT chewy and crispy. Not in the least. I don't mind if it's a little bit floppy, but not like this. An analogy I might give is to compare Tomatoes Apizza to Modern Apizza in actual New Haven is like comparing Jets Pizza to Loui's. Jet's is fine, but Loui's! (If you know, you know). To me, Modern in New Haven is at par, and not to be sacrilegious to our beloved Detroit Style, with Loui's or Palazzo Di Pizza, so it's not a style issue. My two experiences were both the same, so I don't know what to think. I'll give them one more try at some point.

Benito's is finally open again after the fire. The best reason to go to Benito's is the Big Benito. For $23 to get it delivered, you can feed probably 6-8 people depending on how hungry they are. Plus the pizza tastes good, so it's not like it's cheap, bad pizza. read more
