I was recommended this by a friend who knew I crave Indian style pizzas a lot and today was the day when I was finally able to get my hands at it.. this is a to go only place, and barely any waiting area which is perfectly fine for us. We went through the menu before coming to the place and were still not sure what we wanted to have, the elderly gentleman taking the order probably sensed our confusion and also saw we were about to get from the hungry to hangry mode very soon if we don't have our orders put in so he volunteered to help us decide on our order. The only keywords I gave him was that we are 2 people looking for desi/Indian style pizza and are also vegetarian. He modified his menu then and there and suggested us to mix 2 different items on his menu for half style as naga and other half style as southwestern and offered to substitute the chicken with paneer and also decided the quantity and base we would like... none of this info is on his menu.. everything sounded great and seeing his confidence I decided to go with his suggestion. It turned out PERFECT. I couldn't have asked for a better pizza and I couldn't have made any of those substitutions myself. I cannot believe I waited all this while to check this place out and I had been missing out on this all this while staying in Troy. Thank you sir who took our order. We are definitely going to come back and order more from here. He was so sweet with his gesture he even came outside to give us our pizza to our car with the paper plates, ranch and seasoning, we were not expecting to trouble them to that extent and we feel guilty about it but thank you sir. read more

Amar Pizza always seems to appear on the lists of the top pizzas to try out in Detroit. It's not very surprising either, as it's such a rarity to see these kind of fusion flavors in the area. It's been on my try list for years and I finally got a chance to visit the Troy location this past weekend. I ordered over the phone and was quoted around a 25 minute wait time, which makes sense for a Detroit-style pizza with minimal wait. The shop itself is a purely takeout place, with only an order window and two chairs to wait for the pizza. We went with the highly recommend Naga Pizza and started to dig in in the car while it was still fresh. Naga Pizza, Large, Square Deep Dish ($23.99) - This is an 8-square Detroit-style pizza cut into 12 squares (3x4). I found it not too spicy at the start but as I ate more, it got progressively more and more spicy. I don't eat too much South Asian food, but the combination of spices and the cheese kind of reminded me of a spicy paneer makhani, with a rich cheesiness, combination of different spice flavors, and a lighter note from the red onions and cilantro on top. The chicken breast chunks are tender and provided some respite from the spicy flavor. Overall the flavors work very well together in a pizza format. While the flavors are good, unfortunately this particular pizza is not a good Detroit-style pizza. The crust is super wan here, with barely a hint of browning or caramelization and no texture other than chewy dough, with a slight undercooked dough flavor. The dough itself seems to be typical dense and chewy pizza dough instead of the more airy and lighter focacia-like dough that is emblematic of a Detroit-style pizza. There's no cheese on the edges to decorate the crust and give an additional crunch or provide the requisite oil to help grease the crust and fry it as it bakes. (3/5) When I got home, I lightly heated up several slices in a pan with oil, which improved the crust to a crisp and ameliorated the doughy flavor. The problem is if I'm getting takeout, I shouldn't need to do any additional cooking to fix the food! Bathrooms - Amar Pizza is takeout only and there are no customer accessible restrooms. I came in with very high expectations of getting a great fusion Detroit-style pizza. While I did get an inventive and tasty pizza, I did not get a good Detroit-style pizza. The crust was undercooked and just plain not good. If I had to order another pizza from here, I would try their standard crust only. read more

After reading about Amar pizza in the NYT, I had to try it! We got the naga, tandoori and dry fish pizzas. They can do a half and half if you call, but there is not an option in that for online ordering FYI. We got them Detroit style and they were super flavorful, fun pizzas! The naga sauce had a nice heat and went really well with the fresh cilantro and other toppings. The dried fish pizza was good too, but if you don't like anchovies, I would skip it. We also got a side of naga wings, which were delicious. We tried a side order of the ghost sauce to see if we could handle it. Hot, but doable if you like heat. I've been searching far and wide for halal Detroit style pizza and everyone told me Amar Pizza does it best! I went to the Troy location with my husband and it was small and cute, they made everything fresh and brought it to our car so graciously, what great service We started with an Amar hot dog which had a nice kick to it and then got a small half Philly Cheese steak half Naga pizza (chicken based) and my tastebuds were e l e v a t e d. This may be the best pizza! I've recently moved to the area and have tried numerous pizza places, looking for the one that I can call "my spot." We tried Amar last night, and I loved it! My issue with many pizza places is that they load the sauce on. If you're not a fan of a ton of pizza sauce, this place is for you! I ordered a small deluxe, medium pepperoni, and the bread sticks. I love Amar's pizza because it is unique. They have both deep dish and thin crust. I have had the Ghost pizza which is spicy. I had this on the thin crust. I had the Detroiter pizza as a deep dish. The Detroiter is representative of a Coney Island dogs with hotdogs, chili, onions melted cheese and jalepenos. Both were delicious. This small place provides no seating to dine in, but does offer a large parking lot to kick it back and relax with friends. We ordered a large amount of food that follows: Wings: Were not spicy, but did taste good. Pizza: Overpriced and a bit small, but very tasteful. I recommend ordering the detroiter, philly steak, and or the Naga. Burger: Average, nothing special here. I ordered this sometime last summer and forgot to post a review. I will keep it short; my experience was pretty terrible. Read on for more details. I am a big pizza fan (some would say an aficionado) and was excited to try their twist on the beloved food. Before going all out, though, I decided to try a deep dish meat lovers first to test the waters. I ordered around 4pm and it took the food about 1 hour 10 minutes to arrive. I did order through GrubHub, though, so this may not have been their fault. The pizza itself was a disaster. It was incredibly undercooked, to the point where the crust was gooey, and not crunchy. The cheese was barely melted, and did not have the golden brown bubbles you usually see with deep dish pizza. Toppings were ok I guess, but it was hard to enjoy them with the chewy crust. The sauce was the one positive; it was definitely unique, and had a slightly spicy/savory touch that I had not experienced before. I'll literally eat just about any pizza and be satisfied; even when it's not great, it's still "pizza". I ate two pieces of this and threw the rest out because it was so bad. That's an extremely rare occurrence for me. The raccoon that patrols my yard must not have liked it, either, because it only ate one piece after knocking my garbage can over to get to it. I worked at a pizza company for 7 years, so I am very familiar with the process, ingredients, and quality control needed to make a great pie. The pizza here is amazing! We ordered the meat lovers which I hadn't had in years unless I drive across town for it. Upon walking in, it's a very small space and set-up for just grabbing food and go. The toppings were fresh and very flavorful all halal, the crust was crispy on the outside and just right in the middle. They have two flavored crust options - garlic and a spicy one, we chose garlic and it was tasty. During the pandemic, I would recommend one person at a time due to the super small space that would not provide the 6 feet social distancing rules. While waiting for your order you stare at nothing but pizza boxes from every angle which made me began to think... I could not see who was making my pizza or the cleanliness. Also the guy that rang me up and took my money went straight back to the "food prep area" and I didn't hear any running water. Looked to be two younger men running the place. If you can get over not knowing what's going on behind the massive build of pizza boxes and the guy ringing at register, then going back to the food area, give this place a shot. read more

Dude that works here/owns the place is rude, continuously falsely flags bad reviews of him as being from former employees (per the nasty email from yelp trying to claim I had a "business relationship" with this rundown place). I see a bunch of reviews missing besides my own. Dude, I would never work in your dirty little shop even if I were desperate for a job. Twice I've been here and dealt with the same odd/rude dude. Place is a haphazard mess and I have no idea how it passes safety inspection. Orders were not ready both times I came here, and the last time he seemed confused and didn't make the order at all. I didn't hear about this place until last week when I ate at La Marsa next door. It looks like a typical pizza takeout spot, but they've thrown in some South Asian character into their menu, featuring dishes like Naga Pizza, Tandoori Pizza, and more. They don't overpromote that aspect of the business, which I can appreciate. Not a fan of some of the new Indian pizza spots that just throw random paneer and curry on cheese and call it fusion food. We ordered for delivery tonight. Called in, but they also take orders on their website, Uber Eats, Door Dash, and Grubhub. Props to them for a good online presence. We ordered the thin Veggie Pizza, thin Naga Pizza w/o chicken, and breadsticks. After placing the order, they called back and asked if I wanted anything else on the Naga, b/c without chicken there's not much else as it's not as saucy. We appreciated the great customer service there. Arrived in 40 minutes. Naga Pizza was absolutely delicious. It's got a great curry-like sauce with cheese, onions, and chicken. We subbed chicken with jalapeño and mushroom and we loved it. The veggie pizza was also delightful - it had breaded eggplant on it! The breadsticks were decent too, just not as soft as I'd hoped. The biggest thing I noticed is how fresh the veggies were - you can tell they were handcut. The one downside was that it all came out to $40 without tip. I would say it was worth it though. For veggie lovers, I'd go here any day over Jet's or Domino's. Supposedly it's been in business in Hamtramck for years, and they just opened up in Troy. Smart move on their part. Definitely a place I'm going to come back. Extremely nice and friendly staff. We came in and the cashier was super polite and helpful when we took a while on deciding what flavor we want. They have a huge variety of flavors that are all really good!! We ordered a medium detroiter pizza and they upgraded it to a large and gave us a box of free wings on the house! The detroiter has great flavor and tasted like a better version of tangy bbq from four brothers pizza. The "ghost" wings had just the right of amount of kick to them for me and we're excellent. The only complaint I have is that there is no sitting area. However, as it is pizza, you can eat it quite anywhere which isn't much of a problem to me. Visiting from Silicon Valley, home of Indian pizzas, I was pretty surprised to see something similar here, but with a Detroit/Bengali spin. It's absolutely spot on with fresh ingredients and unique flavors. I've tried eight of their specialties and each one is absolutely better than any other pizza I've had in Metro Detroit (highly recommend the Cajun seasoned ones). I'd also recommend getting thinner crusts here to really enjoy the flavor, I wasn't disappointed in the thicker one, I just don't really like that much dough.
