Their website says this place is "charming" and I totally agree. Small and cozy vibe with a great patio in the back...not on the street. We sat out there and it wasn't warm out but it's completely warmed with heaters so don't worry about being out there if it's not summer. The service was spot on and very friendly!! I'll be honest, I was not in the mood for Italian when I got home from LA. I had just come off a very full 10-course tasting menu at a friend's restaurant (which was absolutely not "tasting" portions ), so pizza, pasta, marinara, meatballs... I was fully over it. That said, my family wanted to meet at amici, so here we are, and I'm glad we did. Right away, the service stood out. Our server had great energy..friendly, attentive, clearly busy but still present. It did take a minute for him to make a second lap around the table, but honestly, it wasn't an issue. We were chatting, catching up, and I had arrived a bit late anyway. A few pizzas were already on the way when I placed my order. Most of us ended up with our own pizzas, and I shared a few bites with my siblings. * Mushroom pizza: phenomenal. Crispy crust, fluffy interior, great flavor balance, this is the one I'd order again without hesitation. * Jerk chicken pizza with peanut butter: very interesting. Definitely well done, and I'm glad I tried it...it was creative and thoughtful but I personally could only do one slice. Not something I'd order a whole pie of, but still worth tasting. We also ordered a bunch of small plates: * Shawarma wings: really good, flavorful, well executed * Meatballs: solid and satisfying * Spicy/jalapeño shrimp: tasty and enjoyable There was another shrimp dish with crispy lemon that my sister loved and wanted to order extra of to take home for her kids, but unfortunately they ran out and only had one order left. That was a little disappointing, especially because the dish was clearly popular, but they communicated it clearly and offered alternatives. Drinks were great..I had a dirty martini that was delicious. At the end of the meal, my sister ordered the cookies, and unfortunately there was a noticeable piece of hair baked into one. I hate even mentioning it, but it did happen. That said, the way they handled it really matters and they handled it graciously and professionally. They apologized, were very kind, and gave us vouchers for free batches of cookies next time. Since I won't be back anytime soon, we gave them to our youngest sister. If I'm being nitpicky, it would've been nice to offer a replacement dessert in the moment, but I truly don't hold it against them. Mistakes happen. Food safety is important, yes but this didn't take away from the overall experience, the quality of the food, or the service. Overall: good food, good energy, thoughtful execution, and solid service. Manager came over immediately launched into a monologue about how mistakes happen, no one said anything at this point, my face said it all. She went back to tell the owner we were aggressive with her. No one said anything. She said she would take the food off, no one asked for ANY compensation. So she went back there and lied, because she didn't get the response she wanted. Owner came over and grabbed me by my wrist! I was about to jump up but I know how to have self control. I had never been to Amici's before and it is the cutest local spot! We started at the bar with a drink before a table opened up on the patio outside - even though it was 85 degrees outside, they had a ton of fans running and the patio was shaded so it was very comfortable! We got the Caprese salad & the Emilia pizza. The Caprese was delicious and perfect for a summer evening, but I did find the greens slightly overdressed. The Emilia was also great, the only critique I have is that it wasn't very warm so I felt it may have been sitting for a bit before it was taken to our table - in all fairness they were super busy, so that could have been it too. This place is great. It is the closest thing you will find in the royal oak suburbs area that is very nice and modern but you can also tell it is a hole in the wall family owned restaurant. The appetizers/bread is huge! And the pizzas(pies) are perfect fire cooked and prepared simply. They also give a generous pour on their fairly priced (for the area) cocktails and martinis. During the colder months they do have an outside heated tent space to fit more guests and during the summer it's a patio. Good for a date night or group of friends (6 or less). read more

This was the place to be on a Friday night. We ordered the Beet Salad with Crispy Goat Cheese, the Sroom and Grass pizza, and the Vegan Artichoke pizza. The salad was fantastic, with equal portions of greens to toppings, and the goat cheese was crispy on the outside and completely melted on the inside. The Sroom and Grass pizza was one of the best pizzas I've had in a while. Asparagus on pizza is not a common topping, but it enhanced the flavors and added a nice crunch. Dim lighting, high seating, outdoor heated patio, and a super cool bar. Service was great too. I really like their pizza, more of a thicker crust, and the toppings are fantastic. They have great speciality pizza options, it was hard to choose which ones to try! We settled on the 'Pep In Your Step' and 'Shrooms and Grass', both in the smallest size avail. The banana peppers on the Pep In Your Step were such a good acidic addition to the meaty pizza. Also pepperoni cups! Best pepperoni shape (in my opinion). The Shrooms and Grass sauce was delicious, you can really taste the truffle. Definitely recommend! Great place to bring a group to share. When the AT&T repair man tells you how great a place is when you mention that you are going there in the evening, you take notice. I went with a Meetup group that I am not organizer. A group of 20 in a small place sounds like a problem and add just 1 waitress it sounds like a real problem, but it wasn't. While the table was tight when all the pizzas came, it worked. Our waitress, Daisy, kept everyone's order straight with very good humor. She seemed to be a pro dealing with large groups that need separate checks. I ordered my normal - Ham and pineapple pizza with extra sauce. I have eaten this type for over 35 years and too many pizza places. This pizza is now in my top 3. Good there and just as good at home. You can look into the kitchen to see how your pizza is made. In warm weather, there is outdoor seating. I just deeply wish that they setup a second location in downtown Farmington closer to where I live. That place needs a restaurant of this quality and very reasonable prices. read more

I've loved Amici's since moving to Berkley in 2020, and I love it even more now that I've had to remove gluten from my diet. It's been really hard to find a gluten free pizza crust that has any type of thickness or chew to it - most are paper thin and cracker-like. Amici's GF crust was a delightful surprise. It was almost hard to keep mentally engaged in the conversation I was having over dinner because I was lost in the analyzation and awe of each bite. My best bite, however, was that of a slice that had accidentally been sitting atop a crushed tomato chunk. The acidity/warmth seemed to have perfectly steamed that bite from below, making it soft and almost stretchy like regular pizza dough. I almost want to ask them to put a thin layer of sauce under my pizza next time. GF crust aside, the martinis, apps, and salads are all great. You can tell the owner really cares about his business, as he can be seen working the floor alongside his staff on a regular basis - but not in a way that feels overbearing or supervisory. This is the first ever pizza spot where I was introduced to gourmet style pizza still, it's so different from regular pizza for sure, as far as experience goes. I have only had the mushroom and the Emilia, neither are too bad. I would stick to their non-GF pizzas though. For my stay-at-home graduation dinner, I was definitely in the mood for some good pizza. I had been meaning to try Amici's for a while now, so this seemed like the perfect occasion to do it. We were going to get one 14-inch pizza, but we were having trouble choosing a pizza, so we ended up ordering two 12-inch pies (gotta try 'em all!). I LOVE a good vegetarian pizza, and we tried both the roasted eggplant and the pesto. Trust me when I say the flavors were incredible - and, I mean, look at those photos. I keep looking at these pictures in my phone and thinking about when I can go back! The roasted eggplant is like all the greatness of eggplant parmesan on a pizza. So savory, eggplant cooked perfectly. The pesto pizza is also to die for, and I think may have been my favorite. Fresh roasted broccoli and ricotta. I actually went so far as to make my own pesto and broccoli pizza at home this weekend, because I'm such a fan of that flavor combination. We tried the wheat crust for both pizzas as well, and I was very happy with that. It was hearty and just chewy enough without being too dense. The only thing I didn't like about this restaurant was that I wanted to order 10x more food than I could actually eat. The drinks, salad, and pizza were all great! The service was also phenomenal. My friend got a mule and thought it tasted a bit off, so the server immediately smelled it, realized it was the wrong liquor, brought a new one, and didn't charge her for either.
