I've been coming here since they've opened although I moved away for several years I'm backnin the area and happy that one of my favorite pizza spots is still around they have a huge menu so if there are picky eaters or if you variety in your selection they probably have something for you. I'll start off with a few of my favorites the Monte Cristo sandwich is a must have as it tends to sell out so get it early. I also get the Bacon double cheeseburger pizza or my new favorite the Ricky ricotta and Chris introduced me to these deep fried pineapple chunks he calls pineapple bites they're delicious. My favorite pizza place in the area!! The menu is bonkers--it's huge and it's so unique. I am currently working through a "wish list" of pizzas I want to try. They also have all sorts of snacks, salads, sandwiches and desserts--even dessert pizza. They are open really late as well which seems to be in short supply post-pandemic. I have never had a bad dish from here, though the Scooby snacks are probably my least favorite items on the menu as those are hit or miss. My current favorite is the Hawaiian Punk pizza. Went here for the first time Friday night. I was super excited to try Hippies. I ordered a square spinach pizza. Only to get home and bite into a pretty top pizza with a burnt bottom. I have only had carry out from here a couple of times, it gets an A for creativity for sure. It's a delivery only spot for sure. Gourmet pizza spot. Lots of menu item options for folks that like pizza out of the box ideas. The execution of their pizzas I have always felt was not as fantastic as it could be and for their prices though. My husband always tends to get his pizzas a large, for some cold leftovers the next day. We have tried: BBQ pizza with chicken $22.99, magic mushroom $22.99, veggie supreme $22.99, white stripe pizza $22.99, Hawaiian punk $24.99 Service is standard. Sometimes could be a little friendlier at the counter, but if you're giving me delicious pizza, I'll live. Shoutout to the pizzas with sweet potato tots, honey, and goat cheese - phenomenal. I ordered a 4 piece pepperoni at about 12:30 and it was ready by 12:40. To be fair I was the only person there, but still, THATS good service. I really don't understand the negative reviews on this place, pizza is good, nice vibe, cashier was friendly. yeah, there's a slight tinge of weed when you walk by, but honestly, that makes it better. 10/10 will be eating again. read more

UPDATE: I'm upping my score due to management reimbursing us for the pizza we couldn't consume. While the experience of working with the staff the night we ordered was frustrating, and the website didn't work as we expected. When I brought the uneaten pizza in the next day (when I was told the owner would be in), he did take down my information and reimbursed us the cost of the pizza. Did I overtip for the results? Yes. I really may need to stop tipping at places where they ask for a tip before I've had service or eaten the food! But, that's not an issue on the business side, per se. And the lesson learned was, if you have food allergies here, you can't rely on the app for ordering, you need to call. We'll probably repeat here sparingly, but the GF crusts and CHI style crusts were both quite good! It's just expensive pizza. ‍ We were so excited to have a build-your-own pizza night. My GF and DF niece and I SPLURGED! We had to order separate pizzas due to her restrictions and then ordered a 'dessert' pizza that COULD have been spectacular. It was on a GF crust and BYO selections were: honey 'sauce', cherries, pineapples, sweet potato tots on a butter cinnamon crust. But, instead of honey, we got.....pizza sauce. And we selected no cheeses, but got basic mozzarella cheese all over. This rendered the whole pizza trash. She couldn't eat it bc of the cheese, but no one could eat because the pizza sauce ruined it. Called to try and resolve the issue or get a refund and were told 'we had to tell them not to add cheese or sauce.' But, it was BYO and we never selected cheese or sauce. The guy that took our call said, that's all pizza. And you know, if we ordered from Jets, sure. But, this is Hippies! And the reason we bought 3 different $30-40 pizzas (a piece) was to get interesting pizza no one else offers. They offer TWENTY THREE different sauces. And both honey and pizza sauce are 2 of those options. I think they got it wrong, but refused to admit they messed up the pizza. He was arguing with me that *I* should have known to tell them what I didn't want on my BYO pizza. And we ordered online. Though that would make our selections perfectly clear. But, apparently, their online ordering renders their options to rectify a partial order useless. The only offer was that we could drive back over at 9:30pm (when I called), in the rain and wait for them to make another one. Or we could call the manager the next day when he's in. But, reading other reviews, not sure that will get us anywhere. There was no offer to take our name, contact us, offer a credit for a future order. Just, drive back and we'll make another one. We tried to avoid that by checking each pizza before leaving. But, these mistakes were not noticeable until you tried to eat it. But, the other two pizzas tasted great! ‍ So, they are good when good. But, feels like when they're wrong, it's you that's wrong. read more

I've been eating my way through the Hippies pizza menu for a solid six months now. Like literally have tried maybe half of the hundred or so pizzas on the menu. The guys working are so slobby and constantly stoned but they actually do a really good job with their orders, and the pizza is reliably good. It is NOT artisan pizza. But it is creative and delicious. Some of my favorites have been the porky's, the chicken parm, the Mack pizza, and the steakhouse. The only one I didn't like so far was the Willie Nelson which was just too weird. They have plenty of choices for size and style, they're open late, and they do a good job with delivery. All in all, it's not great pizza but it is what it is. I will order again. read more

This is from some months ago. I ordered a pizza which, with tip and all of the other 'fees', came to over $40.00. Absolutely the worst pizza I've ever had. I managed to eat 1/2 of one piece as almost the whole pizza was soggy, so I tossed it. I've lived just about across the street for 32 years and I drive by there every day and it hasn't even occurred to me in that period of time to order from there - and then I remembered why - I had the same experience there some years ago. CHEESE BREAD REVIEW ONLY : I'm 36, have eaten a lot of cheese bread in my life. Two of my coworkers and I got 3 different kinds of bread last night - 1: bacon onion mozz 2: the 3 cheese the one with ricotta and 3: the regular cheese bread . It was a consensus that they were all horrible. They were salty and the garlic powder didn't go. There was nothing really enjoyable about the breads at all including texture. Pizza - 5 star. Owner - 1 star. Always wanted to try this place. Finally did. No regrets. Gluten free dough is fantastic. Thin crust dough is good. Chicago style pizza is not really Chicago style: it's a thin crust with turned up edges. Not sure why they call it Chicago style. Still good though. 1st time I ordered here, had to wait 10 minutes longer than told. 2nd time I ordered, when I arrived, they did not even start the order. I ordered 1 gluten free and 1 deep dish. Both come only in medium. They ran out of deep dish dough. So kid at countered offered to make it a large thin crust, which is $2 more. Owner told kid at counter he would not do it without me paying the $2. Kid was embarrassed, and try to convince the owner that is the right thing to do for good customer service. Owner was a jerk to him. I really like the pizza here. I don't mind the owner wanting to charge me $2 more, but I did not like him being a jerk to the kid at the counter. read more

I can't say enough good things about my first experience with Happies Pizza. I called today at 11:30 to place a delivery order. I admitted to the gentleman on the phone that this was my first order and I may have some questions, with a relatively large lunch order (5 pizzas) he didn't miss a beat and answered all of my questions and even gave me a discount seeing as it was my first order. I was quoted 45 minutes to an hour and the pizza showed up within the time expected. The pizza was hot and fresh. I wasn't sure what to expect from a place called hippies pizza but what I got was pizzas made with fresh ingredients, flavorful pizza with a doe and crust that was both light and crisp. I will absolutely be back and suggest you give it a try. Hands down the BEST vegan pizza in the area. They quit using Daiya cheese....that has catapulted this pizza to new horizons. You could not have made me believe the cheese was not real cheese. But apparently Hippies changed the vegan brand they use and it was for the better. I order the vegetarian pizza with the vegan cheese, the cheese bread and a salad. Meet a pizza place with a WOW factor. We tried Hippies for the first time last night and what an impression. After this long SIP due to COVID, we found ourselves looking for something new and untested (by anyone we know). First, props to these guys for having dairy-free cheese. My daughter has a sensitivity and she was able to have this pizza and enjoyed it! Second, the entire family raved about their pizza, each of us having our own style. Me, I had the BBQ pizza with pulled pork and I woke up craving the leftovers. A definite must-have-again! These guys have a huge variety of craft pizzas and I can't wait to give it another go. Hanging at a friends in Royal Oak, I ordered food & paid (on credit card) $67.42 on hippies website....I gave them plenty of time to deliver the food (2x as long as what my online confirmation had provided; as it was a busy dream cruise Saturday). I called the restaurant multiple times to track down my driver and the calls went unanswered. Assuming the restaurant had lost the order, we called it a night and drove home. I got a call 35 minutes into my drive home, asking if I want food dropped on porch or doorbell rang. I advised they failed to deliver as promised, failed to call to inform me of delivery running late and they FAILED to pick up phone when I called looking for food. Caller blew up!....caller advised he was the owner & he was working alone....he advised He was cancelling the order and putting (our friends) address on his "do not deliver" list. I waited 5 days for transaction to cancel and when It never was. I called to talk to owner and the coward would not come to the phone and told employee to tell me to fight for the refund with my bank. You are a real class act Chris Culbertson! read more

I have to admit it has been a minute since I have been to Hippies, but I decided I would get it on a Saturday night. I don't even know where to begin. So I order up Pizza and Three Cheese bread my total order came to $27.54. Online ordering said 30 minutes. I showed up 35 minutes later, and it wasn't ready. That is no big deal. But when I showed up, and the cashier seemed super annoyed, I was in there picking up a carryout. So I get my food and get back home ready to chow a great pizza. Wow, I was super disappointed when I got home! The one thing I have learned from this experience. I will always open up before I take it home. Looking at this pizza, look at the photo. It was made like crap. I feel like I could have gone to Little Ceasers and got a Hot and Ready. It would have been a step up from this pizza. Maybe they were having an off night, but how could they pull this monstrosity out of the oven and not see it was looking terrible. Also, I ordered the three-cheese bread, which I have done before. I loved the strange variety of pizzas. I got a goat cheese with honey and red pepper and husband ordered a bacon cheeseburger pizza. There were tons of vegetarian options and several vegan ones. I accidentally ordered "delazones" (calzones) but the bread was good enough that it wasn't too heavy. We ordered cheese bread and the special brownies. We split a brownie and it was fantastic. My co-worker and I are in a late shift, starving with not too many delivery options, besides door dash. We did not have $200 to have DoorDash deliver a meal, so we went local! The best decision ever! The customer service was great, delivery was super fast, and the food was hot upon delivery! Let's start with the Monti Cristo sandwich...REMINDED ME OF Bennegins!!! Super good!! It was a bit smaller, but the taste made up for the size. I order Chicken Alfredo pizza whenever I order pizza, tried a few places...but this pizza is the absolute best! The gentleman on the phone was very short on the phone but I understood because it's a Saturday night and they are busy. When I went in to get my pizza the guy at the counter (WITHOUT A MASK) was so freaking rude and short with me - like I said I understand they are busy but I was the only one in the lobby at the time and the phone wasn't ringing. Both of my pizzas were cold as ice and they both needed to be re-cut because whoever cut them didn't actually apply a tiny bit of pressure to actually cut the pizzas. So since I've worked at many pizza places and I noticed that there weren't any slices cut but a few marks in the cheese to where it was attempted to be cut-I recognize that I would have to cut both pizzas or else it would be impossible to try to pull a slice off. So rude service, ice cold pizzas, sub par Parmesan bread which I had to actually add Parmesan when I got home (while I appreciate they didn't smother it with butter but you do need a decent amount of butter so your sticks aren't hard and also so the Parmesan sticks instead of being all over the bag. However, there was barely any Parmesan on the order to be all over the bag. I'm not cheap but 31 bucks for a small, medium, and a small bread (round and picked up) should have at least been warm and palatable. Very sad because they have a definite great menu, location, and ability to serve a quality pizza. Tonight however while being treated like crap, receiving two ice cold pizza's, having to cut my own pizza when I got home, and the bread situation have pretty much turned me off to Hippies. I would have called and complained but I didn't want to deal with the dude at the front counter who basically just sat there and didn't get off of his chair to grab my order or to do anything but sit there and be insanely rude. In fact I worked there a long time ago and I have never treated a customer in that fashion. If he was running around, there were people filled in the lobby, he was helping possibly bag delivery orders, answering the phone, or doing anything besides just sitting there then maybe I would've understood why he was very short and extremely rude with me. I never write bad reviews for local restaurants, but I am horrified at my experience just now calling Hippies Pizza in Royal Oak. I had a bunch of questions, due to food restrictions (is your gluten-free crust also vegan) and life-threatening allergies (do you use sesame on your pizzas), and the person with whom I was speaking didn't know any of the answers...not one. So, each question, he was yelling it out to the other staff and getting the answer. After the question about sesame, his colleague yelled out "you can hang up on them." What????!!!!! We have gotten delivery from there twice now since the lockdown. They are fast and friendly and the pizza is amazing. The best part is the amount of variety they have. If you are vegetarian or vegan there are SO MANY options! I believe there's about 20ndifferent vegetarian pizzas they make. I'm making it a goal to try as many of them as I can. read more
