I would give this place a solid 2.5 stars. I really liked the inside, it was remodeled about 10 years ago and still looks nice and fits into Hudson well. Went here for our anniversary, it took a solid 25 minutes to order just drinks and we had a reservation. Recommend skipping the artichoke dip. It was less than mediocre and only had enough bread for about half of it. (5 super thin pieces of tiny baguette). We both ordered steaks. They were cooked perfectly to our liking, the loaded baked potato was huge. I got the au gratin potatoes, I thought they were good, but would have been excellent if they took the time to slice the potatoes instead of leaving in huge chunks. It just seemed lazy to me. Both plates were completed with about 4 green beans. The weirdest part; the "house salad". It was chopped lettuce with tomato black olive and bacon, tossed in French and ranch. It was so saturated with dressing, it reminded me of something my stinker roommate made in college during his munching sessions. Very weird... and out of place. We then waited 30 minutes for the waitress to come back for us to pay our bill. I know staffing is tough these days, but everything was very slow and the waitstaff looked stressed. First off food was delicous and this place could easily be a goto for burgers and fries. The bad. Atmosphere sucked for lack of a better word. All servers looked as if they were not happy to be there. Our bartender was a little to laid back. No intro no offer of specials just kind of here is your menus. We heard more employees being bossed around and bickering in the hour we were there. Knowing the history of restaurants at that location you would think the owners would make it a fun happy atmosphere. We would of gladly made that our last stop for the night. This place has been around a month or so and an extension of their St. Paul location. They have 2 spacious high ceiling rooms. Bars on both sides. We sat at the bar (with my lovely in laws) in the attached rooms. My in-laws have already been here 2 other times in the past month, they're retired and fabulous...and enjoy drinking. The main reason for our visit today was due to a MN Wild game. They have a shuttle service that goes to the game in St. Paul. Check first if you're interested. We ate dinner prior to the game. We enjoyed chicken pot pie, chop salad, chicken Kiev and loads of cocktails. Bartender even treated me to try certain martinis she had extras of. Yum! I enjoyed the key lime martini and a Disaronno & diet. They have a huge list of martinis and shots. Look forward to returning with the hubby. read more

The service was excellent. We were there a bit earlier for dinner so there was little noise, which we prefer. I ordered an appetizer, the jumbo stuffed mushrooms with risotto, with melted cheddar cheese on top with a sauce. First, the mushrooms were NOT jumbo. Far far far from jumbo. There was hardly any risotto. The dish was primarily melted cheese. It was good, but since it was an appetizer labeled as stuffed mushrooms the mushrooms should have been the primary ingredient instead of the cheese. The other entrees were pleasing. The special, flat iron steak, was excellent but the wee amount of vegetable shavings (yes, shavings) made it seem cheap. All the first food was served hot and was very flavorful. I will go again, but I won't get the unstuffed mini-mushrooms in a cheddar cheese soup. read more

I want to preface that Bennetts was highly rated in a group I'm in. I came here with high expectations. I ordered the 1/2 herb chicken with mushroom risotto. It was 27$ the chicken was dry and not a lick of seasoning or herbs. Not even salt. Just plain roasted chicken that tasted just like... chicken. WHAT! Where is the finesse where is the flavor?? For that much money? The mushroom risotto had flavor but is HEAVY on the mushroom what like 60% mushrooms and 40% risotto. I felt like I was just eating mushrooms. Maybe for some that's fine but for me I would have liked a bit more risotto. I also ordered the carrot cake. It had a strong potential however was dry and lacking in frosting in my opinion. Overall my tab was 38$ and some change for a to go order. Not cheap and not worth it! I am very disappointed in the flavorless chicken! Not ok! Take some care people are paying money for this food. Also when a customer walks in it's polite to greet them and not have them walk all over the restaurant to find someone to notice them. When I went to the bar the bartender acted so nonchalant and I had to repeat myself several times about me picking up my order. It was 415 not that busy no one was there. I would like to give Bennett another shot maybe for dine in but strike one in my book. Not a good first impression. Bennett's Chop & Railhouse is in the heart of downtown Hudson, WI. The space is large and provides a lot of seating options. You can sit at a high top, booth, table or at the bar. The martini menu is extensive, almost to the point of being overwhelming. Anyone can find a cocktail they would like. Our server was very knowledgeable and helped many of the guests I was with select a drink. The food was slightly above average. I enjoyed the Western Chicken, which is a crispy chicken sandwich with hot sauce and coleslaw. The fries were crispy and salted well. Everyone else seemed to like their dish as well. Specifically, the scallop dish looked beautiful. The scallops were seared perfectly, however, there were a few bites with sand. The risotto paired with the scallops lacked seasoning. I think a bit more Parmesan would have helped. This was my second or third visit, and I plan to go back. I would order the sandwich again, but would be more than willing to try something else. My hope would be that the seasoning of the seafood would improve. read more

Consider it a personal challenge to try all - had Chocolate Covered Pretzel and Carrot Cake Martinis tonight and they were amazing. My husband ordered a whiskey double shot and it was a generous pour. I had Black & Blue burger with fries - fries were yummy burger was average wish it was more of a hand packed patty. I have reviewed three different restaurants in this space over 10 years. FINALLY these new guys got it right! So happy to report that the food was outstanding. The Bennett's staff was friendly, attentive and helpful. The menu is unique enough to stand out in this town. Juicy Lucy, Steaks, good appetizer assortment. Full bar. Beer on tap was ice cold (my pet peeve). Space now has bars on both sides. Many additional TVs and a smattering video games- so not the "fine dining vibe" but we're a pretty cas town. I had the Bison burger- juicy and lean, the hand cut fries w just salt were crunchy and soft. Amazing. No weird seasonings on anything- a sign of quality ingredients and excellent meals! Hubby had chopped salad w secret homemade dressing which was great. Very generous fresh salad! Two thumbs up!! read more

Went in the Saturday after thanksgiving and had little expectations but were pleasantly surprised. The server made some drink recommendations. Glad we took his advice. Definitely knew his stuff. My husband and I decided to have soup and sandwiches. Bread was a bit overwhelming so we just picked around it. We opted for chili and it was amazing. Food and service were good. Drinks and beer selections need an overhaul. All of the drink selections are full of sugar. They need more fresh and natural ingredients. Because the drink selection was so sugary, I ordered a vodka gimlet. It came out with some fluorescent color additive versus fresh lime juice. The beer list was awful... all domestic pilsners from large breweries. No craft beer at all to choose from. When dining out these days, people like to enjoy a good cocktail or a good beer. If they could get the drink and beer selection up to date with their competitors in the area, they would be much busier. read more

Great atmosphere. Great service. Food was very good. Everything was timely and cooked as ordered. But this is yet another restaurant joining the masses of penalizing you for not walking around with hundreds of dollars of cash in your pocket. Unfortunately for me I missed it while paying the bill. Usually I take it out of the tip. I know it's not their fault, but hopefully you will be forced to increase their wage to accommodate. The prices you charge for entrées and then feel the need to tack on 3-4% for not paying with cash is a bit ridiculous. Don't accept credit or debit cards if you don't want to pay the fees. Your making your problems the customers problems and when we disappear you have a bigger problem. I will bet most people don't realize the fee is even on there. But they will soon enough because it's becoming too common. read more

This is a great place for dinner, drinks, and entertainment. We had a large group at dinner and the staff took great care of us. Our server was Kelly and she was attentive, accommodating, and fun to interact with. Our drinks consisted of a Martini, beer, wine and a mixed drink. Each was made exactly as expected. Meals were also a variety consisting of walleye strips, a walleye dinner, salads, and soups. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The location of the restaurant is right in the middle of a busy Hudson street. The decor is beautiful and the two sides of the restaurant make it easy to talk over dinner while still hearing the live music from the other side. Tried Bennett's Chop House for the first time. I had the ribs and my wife had the salmon. Sides for me were au gratin potatoes and wild rice soup. My wife had the chopped salad and baked potato. She absolutely loved her meal, especially the chopped salad. I really enjoyed the au gratin and wild rice soup. My ribs were a bit tough, but.... The owner approached me and asked how my meal was. He wasn't dressed like staff and I thought he was just another patron asking about the ribs - so I was honest. Next thing I know is he's comping me the ribs. It was totally unnecessary and I felt bad having said anything. They would not let me pay full price, so I left a very nice tip. Super nice people. I'll be back. BTW, really good drinks.
