If an old school steakhouse and sports bar had a baby, it would look like Bennett's Chop & Railhouse. The menu consists of some delicious steak fare and my medium rare filet, albeit only 6oz was a deal at $38, and boasted great grilled flavor. My dining companions enjoyed their bone in ribeye as well. The wine list is limited and lackluster with inexpensive options only. Service was efficient and no-nonsense. Lots of large TV's and great burger options that I will be back to try. This place is worthy of a visit for the right occasion.

The hubby and I were looking for someplace a little closer to home to celebrate New Years and we've heard great things about Bennett's so we decided to give it a go. We were so happy with our decision. This place has it all; seafood, steaks, salads, burgers, etc and martinis galore (over 30 to be exact)! Our crab cake appetizers were delicious and very reasonably priced! We decided on the New Years specials for our entrees which were very good and large portions so we were unfortunately too full to try the desserts! Our waiter was so fun and recommended some great things to try! The place is small but has a lot of seating and a great bar area. We cannot wait to return to try some of the regular offerings on the menu and some more of the delicious martinis!!

We visited for Valentines Day. What a neighborhood gem! It was hopping - and kind of loud.

I'd refer to this as more of a "hole in the wall" sort of neighborhood-ish place. Great customer service and friendly staff. Charlie's were fantastic! Bruschetta looked great, but tomatoes were a little mushy and not quite enough flavor. Bonus that they have a free shuttle to take you to concerts, etc. They have a small parking lot but it was full, however, we were able to park on the street (it was a quick walk). I'd go back!

This St Paul icon never disappoints! Went for dinner with three friends and every meal was awesome. We started with their soup to the day...beef stew. It was a creamy version of stew and the deep beef flavor was spot on. For dinner I had the pork chops with au gratin potatoes and green beans. The only minor this g about the beans is -there were very few on each plate! One plate literally had 4. I will add we could have asked the staff for more, but we did not. No bib deal and it did not take away from the delicious meal! We each had the drink of the day which was a yummy lemon spritz for only $5! Def recommend and thanks to them for being huge supporters of the St Paul Winter Carnival!

Stopped in on Monday for 1/2 priced apps. Had the chophouse tender tips. They were pretty good. Remember no specials on event nights.

Great martinis. Easy diner food. The outside doesn't look like much. I think the food was just okay. I might be back for a burger for sure. Definitely a great place for a quick bite and the martinis are HUGEEEE I HAD A GREAT WAITRESS. Easy food. Great prices. Easy service. Happy discovery

    Half eaten fillet mignon

We were craving some food and well white castle was not doing the trick so we made a trip to bennets. We entered the old looking divy establishment and were greeted promptly by the hostest. As we were quickly ushered to our booth we glanced at the walls with lots of photos and autigraphed memorabilia and then were seated. We ordered the spinach artichoke dip that i remember eating last year and it was not the same. There was a lack of salt and peper but the garlic bread it came with was very good. I washed it down with a fat tire then our fillet mignon arrived. We selected fries with it and payed the extra to upgrade these suckers. We also got their soup of the day and that was a wild rice soup. After 15 minutes of anticipation the wild rice soup arrived. Now don't he fooled by the size the little cup packs a punch and 20 minutes after eating it sinks down to your stomach like a snitch wearing cement shoes in the river. The steak came out next... it came with some corn and omg the corn had nothing on it but it was divine. The taste of butter coated my mouth followed by the sweetness. Then I took a bite of the steak. Now its not the best steak I had but mine was cooked good enough. The layers of flesh melted in my mouth like a canibal eating a corpse and the fries well I don't know even though loaded they were nothing special. Emma our server did a fantastic job making sure we had what we needed and unlike most places we did not have to wait ages to get our bill. Emma also made sure we didn't die of dehydration and kept us hydrated. She was very bubbly and social and strong indication that she has been doing this for a whole and based on her promptness and social skills I can tell she was a pro. Most of the food ordered was cooked to our liking and some items needed more salt and pepper but that's why they put it on the table. Over all our experiance was good at Bennet... Ohh a buss with snow flakes arrived and some drunk guy with a cape with large metal buttons that were bigger than a Texans belt buckle came in screaming that he was in the house followed by shots and stuff.. did I mention free entertainment and people watching!!

The meal was delicious, service was top notch and we definitely be back sooner than the 50 year gap since our last visit (when we're HS seniors). We completely enjoyed the lobster/cauliflower/gouda melt appetizer- in fact this might have been the star of our meal. Moving on we shared a wedge salad that was fresh and delicious. For our main course we shared Steak Diane and asparagus. The combo of the steak with the creamy sauce over a bed of mushrooms was superb. Our meal closed with an ice cream sundae for our anniversary treat and we also shared the grasshopper pie. We loved the pie! The side serving of asparagus was much more than we needed - I might skip that choice for the next dining occasion. If you are a fan of the traditional feel of a supper club, this is the place for you. You will be treated well and made to feel special. The serving staff move in and around quietly and do everything you expect from a 5-star supper club. The warm moist towel at the end of the meal was a touch of gratitude that we appreciated. Our reservations were at 5:15 and I think arriving early helped our overall experience. We really appreciated the kitchen team for splitting the portions - it helps us share the meal so we can try more options without overeating. The staff was gracious and we received a complimentary photo celebrating our anniversary. There were so many little touches that made this a memorable celebration.

Enjoyed a warm spring evening on the rooftop of the Lexington (recently named in the top three…read morerooftops of the Twin Cities in Msp Magazine!). We were warmly greeted by the host who sat us right away in a sunny spot. Our server was wonderful. I ordered a drink that ended up not being up to par, and he kindly offered to switch it to something else with grace and class, without making me feel badly for asking this. This goes to show the caliber of this long standing institution. Customers are treated well and are respected here. Our snacks from the menu were delicious and perfectly sized. The shrimp cocktail was made well. The lamb meatballs were flavorful and hearty. My Hemingway Daquiri was refreshing without being too liquor forward. Love all the Luxardo drinks on the menu! We will definitely be back!

And the service was impeccable - friendly and attentive despite how busy it was. Only thing that could use a little work is the seating- our booth was torn up badly and not even duct taped to smooth it out. Some repairs/updates would go a long way. But joints like this I don't judge the ambiance too harshly.

Came here for a date night, I got the Broiled Miso Salmon and one glass of wine and my partner got the Steak Frites and a coke. Our bill was $95! Ouch. The bad: If it were really really good I would be willing to pay for it, but I felt that the flavors in my dish, in salmon, carrot ginger sauce, and cauliflower, were whispering at best. I think the cauliflower could have used a sauce or been crispier, it just seemed boring and soggy. The steak and fries also came out cold :( my partner really knows his steaks and was not impressed, it was over cooked for medium rare and it had clearly been sitting too long. Not worth the $38! The good: The space itself is decorated really well, it's pretty dark but the theme comes together really nicely. I personally enjoyed the indie/pop music they had playing and it wasn't too loud. I really enjoyed the Chardonnay ($16) and they had a decent selection of wine but only a handful were by the glass. You can get glasses of by the bottle wines if you commit to getting at least two glasses though which is good to know. For me, the service really saved this review, our server was so nice and friendly, attentive but not overbearing. I would maybe grab a drink and an appetizer here sometime but will definitely hold out on dinner again until their prices chill or the food gets better. ‍ TLDR: Too expensive for the food quality

But the food is average to meh. Likewise with the service. For $35 entrees and $20 cocktails, I expect better. A small example: if your menu is going to offer "frites" with bearnaise instead of plain old "French fries," it might be a good idea to actually serve them with a side of bearnaise rather than plain old ketchup, which came with our meals (even if the ketchup comes in a little ramekin rather than a bottle). In other ways, as well, our meal didn't walk the talk that the menu suggested. It felt overpriced for dishes where lots of salt and fat seemed to take the place of truly complex, well-harmonized flavors. Service: at the time I made our reservation, I referenced that my party would be celebrating a family birthday. There was no acknowledgment of this by the restaurant's staff at any time during our visit. Even little things like this matter. After being seated, no one poured water for our group. Appears that this is a "self serve" thing; if you're thirsty, pour your own water. We waited at least 10 minutes for our server after being seated. After our meal was served, our server did not come back to check in until it was time to ask if we were ready for dessert. We decided to skip dessert. We probably won't be coming back anytime soon.
