I was plesantly surprised by the food at Agave Kitchen in downtown Hudson! I visited on a Thursday for lunch and the restaurant was pretty empty. There was a group of 4 of us so we were able to sit wherever we'd like to. Our server was very friendly, prompt, and helpful with our menu questions. We ordered a smattering of items but the most notable; table fries, cowboy corn bites, and the legendary nachos. All other items we ordered (chicken and shrimp tacos and a burger) were all good, just not as notable as the others. Regarding portions, they are HUGE! We should have shared entrees but took home leftovers instead. Overall, I'd recommend trying Agave Kitchen and I look forward to visiting again to try more menu items! read more

Agave kitchen is a decent place for a small group to eat lunch or dinner. Kind of a bar feel with limited space. There are a lot of food choices but limited proteins available. If not fish or shrimp it's shredded meats unless you order an up-charge item. The chips taste really fresh and crunchy with a non-grease taste. A little salt and they were perfect. The queso and salsa are all really good alone, but we mixed ours and it was even better. The shrimp tacos had a little too much of the bacon because it really over powered the shrimp. Once I pulled off some bacon the tacos had a really good flavor and kick. The fish tacos have a fried fillet that tasted really good but needed a little salt. The filling and sauces on the fish tacos were really tasty. I would buy bottles of that green guacamole sauce. Our favorite item of the meal was the chorizo egg rolls. These have a really nice crunchy exterior and a cheesy spicy interior. The chorizo mixed with the cheesy center was so good. I doubt you'll be disappointed if you order these and share them with the table. The service would be my only area of suggested improvement of this establishment. The sign up front says "Please wait to be seated" but then once bartender saw us she told us to "just find a seat and someone will bring menus shortly". Nobody came to our table for 5-6 minutes. The rest of the service wasn't much better. Lot of waiting for help or acknowledgment. Once we were done eating we had to search out our waitress to get our check. We would return to try other items, but maybe be more demanding of service. read more

One of the places we found while we were in Hudson, WI was Agave Kitchen. It was just a block up from the St Croix River. They serve a combination of Santa Fe, New American & Keto Friendly inspired foods. They had a little bit of a wait (it was a Friday night) so we left our name and we took a walk down to the river to take a few pictures. The view was really pretty and calming. The restaurant was pretty busy. The servers were really friendly and they were great. Our waiter got our order taken quickly and I was surprised how efficient he was. They definitely knew what they were doing and had a great system. When the food came out it was hot and delicious. We started with the cheese curds and the blackberry ketchup it comes with was amazing. We actually ordered a second order to take back to the room with us for later. I ordered the Pork Carnitas Tacos from their Keto Selections. Yay for low carb! They were amazing and so filling. He got the Gaucho Steak tacos and Caesar Salad. He loved his choices too. We enjoyed our meal so much that we actually ate here a second time over the weekend before we left to head home. We've even talked about coming here when we're up in the twin cities because it's only a 20 minute drive from St Paul, MN. It's really good. Fine, but overpriced. Our server was nice, but didn't check in often enough for refills and there were some misunderstandings when ordering that led to one of our party not being able to enjoy their meal. To be fair, they could have sent the plate back, but chose not to, so that's partially on them. But we were all confused how the error happened in the first place. Started off strong with the cheesecurds appetizer, which was delicious and great with the sauce. The kids enjoyed their burgers and chicken tenders and said "this is the best ranch I've ever tasted" so there's that! The fries were delicious, but couldn't make up for the $16 burger three of us ordered (cheapest one on the menu, I believe). It was the Bacon Jam burger special, though if you'd asked me to guess what special ingredients they'd added I would have guessed, "...sauce?" Not awful, but nothing to write home about and certainly nothing to justify the pricetag. We ended our meal here full but wishing we'd tried another local spot instead. read more

I really want to give it 4 stars however, since the last time I was there, the food has gone downhill a little. Specifically the burgers. Idk. Maybe it's just me. But I haven't been there in probably a year or two and the burgers have gotten a little, under seasoned? Idk how else to describe it. The cheese curds were still pretty flipping awesome though and I think they are probably the best in Hudson. Unfortunately the price of everything has gone up so much I know I could make a better burger at home, the patty itself just didn't have any seasoning. The service was great. Had very nice and prompt waitress. The drinks came quickly and the food was hot. The building, if you haven't been has 3 sections. There's a main floor with mostly high top tables and a bar. Then a second floor with the kitchen and an overlook on the first floor. It has giant windows that are street facing and the view of downtown is pretty good. Honestly I prefer the third floor, although it wasn't open when we were there last, it also has some large windows that down upon main street. The third floor (from what I recall) is more fancy college bar with some games and a bar. Overall worth a stop. It's unique and they have a done a great job with the space and have great service. read more

Cute ambiance right off the main street. Right in the hustle and bustle of the historic downtown area, Hudson, WI. We were seated immediately on the 3rd floor servers serviced right away. Our table had a great over view of the downtown area and the river. The kids had their own menu and activity sheet. They were also entertained but the dart machine behind us. The food came out promptly and the kid portions were really a good deal for $6 each. The nachos had a lot of meat on them & kids we enjoyed. My chicken southwest bowl was a bit lacking in taste so I asked for salsa to spice it up. The others liked their bowls and burgers. The unlimited handcut fries were hot and delicious. Went here for lunch today! We were seated quickly and greeted by a friendly server. I had the chicken Cesar wrap and fries and it was so good! Love this place! There is street parking around, but no specific lot. My girlfriend and I sat on the second floor with a great view. The kitchen is in a unique spot, but it is very cool. We ordered a few appetizers to share, the chicken nachos and cheese curds. I ordered the pulled pork sliders. The happy hour menu is pretty big with food and drinks and is offered everyday until 5pm. This place is bigger than expected. There's three floors and two bars. The steak fries looked so good. We ordered the legendary nachos and wings. I asked for more of that creamy sauce because it was absolutely dreamy. The pork was dry though. The wings were good. We got the dry rub and garlic teriyaki. I'd skip the roasted garlic aioli. My hubby and I were excited to head to Agave yesterday due to their keto options on their menu. It has been a while since our last time here. I ordered the tenderloin steak tips while my hubby ordered the buffalo chicken tacos (both keto options). The kiddo had milk with a side of chips. We both highly enjoyed our meals while watching the gators play basketball on their huge tv screens on the 3rd floor. As a side note, on the 3rd floor of the restaurant there are some cool views if you get a window seat and only high top table options. They have a cute mini bar up there with about 5 stools. There's even a bathroom stall (1) on the top floor otherwise more bathrooms on the main floor in the back. They must've updated them recently, they're very nice. We spent about 3 hours here, group of 10 people. The food was good, our waitress was nothing but nice. As we were leaving it was 8:45pm, the bottom floor was dead - there was barely any customers only 2 waitress standing at the bar. I stood right inside the door because it was extremely cold while waiting for a ride. No one was coming in or out - I wasn't blocking anything. I was trying to talk through the door to my group and the waitress behind the bar named JORDAN "Don't touch the glass we just cleaned that." Now I didn't touch the door at all. I felt bad so I looked at the door, there were no smudges and looked clean. I apologized and continued to wait. Someone from my group asked me a question so I cracked the door to answer fast - She then turns around "can I get you a table?!" Me: no sorry we were just here I'm just waiting to leave but I guess I'll leave since it's bothering you so much. "Great leave because we are trying to run a business here!" Since we moved out of town, we've missed this place. We went for lunch. The menu is constantly evolving, which I love. But they also retain the classics which made Agave in the first place. Great happy hour specials, however noticed inflation has effected them as everyone else trying to survive. I had the Cabo burger. It was excellent. I could only eat half. I like their salsa, so I didn't upgrade to fries. My hubby had the forever classic chimichanga (with pork of course) , it's always a staple at Agave and always on happy hour specials. Stopped in at Agave for a quick one with my beer connoisseur buddy John. He's always after me to try this one and that one. He even got me to download a beer app that he touts as fun. Drinking the beer is more fun than the app I told him. Besides, who's able to type in a beer review after having a few. Certainly not this one. The bar on the ground floor is very cool and rustic modern. The bar top is shiny copper, so if you're paying the tab in pennies, a few may be camouflaged in its sheen. Our bartender, on this my first visit, was a beautiful young lady who is worthy of taking a seat even if you're not thirsty. LOL, but who in Hudson isn't thirsty. I heard that there's a bar upstairs, too, but I'd rather stick as close to earth as possible. After a few, gravity and I don't get along. My buddy struck up a conversation with our barmaid, and of course, he knew her. Everyone knows everyone in this darn town. When you travel in the same circle for long enough, what goes around comes around. I'm new to the three ring circus, so I have to rely on Ringmaster John to keep me in the loop. I usually get the proper introduction before the beer starts to flow. After it does begin to flow, I'm on my own. You'll enjoy your time at Agave. When you sit at the bar, tell them John sent you. They won't know who Alex J is. Quick Tip: If you're going to drink at Agave, then you should probably do some shots of Tequila. It's made from the Agave plant. We were back here this afternoon after a few years of not stopping in (for no discernible reason). It was a little before 5pm and we ordered drinks before the end of happy hour. Our server was great and brought us each two drinks in short order to take advantage of HH prices. I ordered the Philly cheesesteak burrito off of the January specials menu (recommended) and hubby had the mushroom/Swiss burger and fries. We both were remembering the incredible skin-on fries from our previous visits and were excited to see if they were still great. My burrito was really good...corn salsa and poblano peppers and 3-chili queso all coming together with tender sliced steak to make a great burrito. And the serving size (including the fries) was big enough to take home leftovers for tomorrow's lunch. Hubby's burger was cooked according to his order but resembled a frozen burger in shape and taste which was a little disappointing. And our fries were both lukewarm. We mentioned the fries to our server (she was great and I wish I had asked her name) and she brought out a plate of piping hot fries in record time. Go on a Tuesday night for $5 off of the price of burgers and tacos. A reasonable price for a pretty good meal. read more

While the tacos I ordered here were good, for the price they ask, I would've liked to get more than just two of them. Plus, the fact that the only side available was chips and salsa was a joke. Seriously, I would've been willing to pay an upcharge to select from a variety of sides. And they claim the chips and salsa were endless, well, when my friend and I went, they sure as heck weren't. In fact, the service was downright horrible. Our server did not bother to check-in on us more than once after delivering the order to the table. It's like we didn't exist after coming over to us five minutes after she set down the food. It would've been nice if she had returned to, I don't know, offer refills on our chips and salsa or even our drinks. But nope, no sign of her after that first quick check-in. I felt irritated even tipping the 15% I did. Also, I'm sure this won't matter to some people, but I went to the bathroom after a kid came out and was greeted to a toilet not being flushed, and let's just say, they could really use some ventilation or at least the ability to circulate some air in the bathroom. Overall, very overpriced and overrated. The bill probably would've been even worse if we had ordered from the bar. Thankfully, we were smart enough not to indulge. I came to Agave kitchen on cinco de mayo and had an amazing experience! I sat on the 3rd level which is more of the bar area (tvs and a little louder) and ordered a margarita as well as a chimichanga which was great. I was pleasantly surprised that they had the full menu upstairs as well . The bartender Denman who was doubling down as the server was absolutely fabulous! She was alone helping out about 7 or 8 tables as well as the rail, yet she still had everything and everyone in her grasp and was charismatic and timely with her service. Have enjoyed coming here. Atmosphere can be a bit loud at times, but not overwhelming. What is overwhelming here are the portions. I definitely like getting more bang for my buck, but either be prepared to share or take home your selections. I really enjoy the nachos here. A half order is usually plenty for my hubs and I to split. Tacos are also good, but can be a bit messy. Drink menu is pretty extensive, so your likely to find something to your enjoyment. A grade above bar food. Agave Kitchen is on the strip of bars and restaurants in downtown Hudson. The location is great as it's close to the river. The establishment is 3 stories high offering bar and table seating. The menu offers tacos, burgers, wings, and drinks. The variety of burger toppings seem fun! Everything from peanut butter to jalapeños. I had the vegetarian tacos which I'd recommend as a soft pass. The taco consisted of a soft flour shell, mushrooms, greens, and salsa. I requested to omit the cilantro and onions. Without the hot sauce and guac I ordered on the side, there would have been no flavor. I ordered a side of rice and beans which were actually yummy. The tacos were supposed to come with bottomless chips and salsa but I supposedly subbed those for my rice and beans (even though we were still charged for an added side)... My significant other had the triple cheese bacon burger of some sort. He liked the bacon due to its thickness. Overall I think we'd come again for drinks and apps. Again, you can't beat the location. We usually go to the same restaurant in Hudson but tried to explore our horizons on this visit. read more

I'd call the menu hipster American food with a Mexican vibe - good - 4 stars. I had a full lunch...specialty cocktail, appetizer, "sandwich" (aka, hamburger) and dessert. I really enjoyed the food. Everything had a unique twist. I particularly liked the Raspberry Chipotle sauce and the Blackberry "Ketchup". There were a few standouts. The Agave Twinkie was great. Basically, it's a cream cheese stuffed jalapeno...wrapped by shredded pork...wrapped by bacon...deep fried (I think) or baked...and drizzled with Raspberry Chipotle sauce. The cheese curds had a nice, light & crispy breading with an OFF THE HOOK great Blackberry Ketchup dipping sauce - yum! The burgers all have a unique twist like my "Peanut Butter & Jealous" burger with Raspberry Chipotle sauce, creamy peanut butter, and corn chips on the side instead of fries. (Of course, you can get fries if you want them.) Finally, I tried the Waffle Sundae dessert. OMG, the pictures don't do it justice. It's a waffle, drizzled with blueberry maple syrup, smothered with a heap of cheese cake, topped with whipped cream, and garnished with a cherry! Our server was kinda weird. She literally couldn't stay still and she flitted all over the place like a grasshopper, never at our table for more than a few seconds, not making eye contact, never smiling, looking away to the next thing. Delicious food with bottomless fries! Loved the different menu options, however as someone who doesn't like a lot of spice I did notice a lot of the burgers had jalapeños. Even my margarita that I order had jalapeño infused tequila.. I personally didn't care too much for it but you like a little kick then it's perfect for you! I did notice the waiter and bartender who served me did not write down my order, he memorized it which always makes me alittle nervous as I ask for extra ketchup and no onions and add lettuce and tomatos. As suspected, when my food arrived I was missing some of the things I had ordered. This place used to be great Horrible service the whole table turnaround was around 2.5 hours and you want drink refills? Forget it! They didn't have all items offered on kids meals either so we had to go get dessert elsewhere we had to literally flag our server down in order to get our check. Also raw carrots on a kids meal? Like they don't know raw carrots are a huge choking hazard? Scary The food was really bad too. Bland frozen burgers with cheap toppings and disgusting salty fries.
