My wife and I decided to try something new and stopped by barkers to give them a shot. We were shocked, the place wasn't very busy. We were greeted by our server Katrina and started with drinks and an appetizer. We ordered truffle fries, a Diet Coke for my wife, and a Tito's with cranberry juice for myself. For our main course, I went with the turkey burger with potato chips, and my wife ordered the Diablo chicken sandwich. Unfortunately, I wasn't impressed with the turkey burger, it lacked flavor, and the onions, which I requested to be caramelized, were red onions not regular onions. While the experience wasn't terrible, it didn't leave a strong impression. I might return to try other menu items, but my first visit wasn't what I had expected. read more

Love the food at Barkers, and especially love the friendly service. Someone always greets you when you arrive and says "thanks for coming" on your way out. Have eaten in lots of times, but last night was the first time trying take out. First time I went here they had a really good pot roast meal. It was amazing. Second time, we ordered the creole and garlic wings. As you can see in the photo, they were covered in jarlick - jarred garlic. I get it they are busy, but these were doused with garlic. It was so heavy handed with garlic they weren't any good. We ate 3 of 10. We sent them back and asked to get a different kind of wing. Waitress said sure, no problem. We got the bill and were charged for two orders of wings. We tried to have the ones we sent back removed from the bill. $16 for a plate of 10 wings. The manager said, "It's our policy not to refund if the food is made to spec." How were we supposed to know that's their policy? It wasn't listed on the menu of hungry up anywhere we could have noticed. I've never had a problem sending back food and being charged for it before, and I assumed most restaurants have a general rule if you don't eat or like something, you don't get charged for it. After an afternoon of bar hopping and before an evening of recovery, my main man John and I stopped at Barker's for dinner and a beer (and yet another beer). I had told him that I've never been to Barker's before. He responded, "You mean to tell me that you've never been to Barker's? "Hey, this is your town, not mine," I said. Well, he said, "Alex J, you're in for a treat." We went inside and were ushered to a booth by a gorgeous young lady. She must be one of Barker's beauties, I thought. My first impression was that I like this place. It has a warm atmosphere. Easy to be comfortable. Everyone was smiling. I guess we were, too. After all, we had just come in from having visited 4 bars previous, and for good measure, a stop at home to have a beer....as if we needed one. So we were quite amiable. Our friendly server took our order of two Bullseye Burgers and fries. No, not each. One for each would go a long way in starting the recovery process, and believe me, by that time, they were sorely needed. John was trying to convince me that I should ask the lovely girl to marry me! Ever the romantic he is. Well, the burgers arrived just in time to thwart the proposal. SMH.. John Now, I don't know if it was because we were hungry or if the burgers were that darn good. But their presence at our table was short-lived. Talk about a disappearing act. Chris Angel couldn't have done a better job. Every bit of the burger found its rightful place, and every fry used to mop up the sauce. My imaginary fiancee wasn't going to have a problem getting those plates back to the dishwasher, and he would think, why is she bringing me clean dishes? All that was left for us to do was to lick our lips and pay the bill. Barker's isn't exactly fine dining, but for a couple of tipsy grandpa's, the dining was just fine. Quick Tip: When we were presented with the bill, we found it to be quite reasonable. You may say that at Barker's, "The Price is Right." I just had to do it, Bob. Really enjoyed the customer service, price, and the quality of the food we ended up eating. The ingredients were obviously fresh, it was cooked perfectly, and our pretty young woman was all about smiles and accommodations. Had a pretty good meal with my son and his girlfriend here on a very busy Monday night during Covid. I believe that the reason it was so busy is because this Bar restaurant is located on the Wisconsin side of the Minnesota Boarder. Minnesota has recently pretty much closed the ability to eat sit down meal in a restaurant and, by the number of MN License plates on cars outside, a lot of people came to Hudson to eat. (Including my son who lives in Minneapolis). I'm not saying that this place didn't deserve to be busy! The food was pretty good.... especially the Short Rib, Brussel Sprout, Tater-Tot Casserole. Unique and tasty. So refreshing to find something absolute new (at least to me) when eating at a local eatery. If I had to point out anything that was maybe not as great was the Fish in Chips. I would put that meal in the "average" category. This not bad... but the casserole was the star on our table! Service was great and very friendly. read more

My last review of Barker's was from 2014, but after last night, I have to update! My family and I had a reservation at a different restaurant for NYE but ended up having to cancel day of because that restaurant hid their very expensive special NYE menu. I was worried we wouldn't be able to find another place to go at the time we wanted to, but thankfully Barker's fit the bill! We got a reservation for the same time that our other reservation was for and they were very accommodating. My husband and I arrived first because we wanted to get a drink at the bar, however when we arrived the host told us our table was ready, which was super nice. Our server arrived quickly to take our drink and app order and both of those arrived quickly. My parents arrived about 10 minutes later and the server again was quick to get drink orders. Our appetizer arrived and was absolutely delicious, as were our drinks. My brother and nephew arrived last, and our server quickly grabbed orders all around. Our food arrived quickly and everything was really good. I decided on the pot roast, which was melt in your mouth delicious, and the carrots that come on the side were PERFECT. My dad loved his bison burger, and everyone else seemed to really enjoy their food as well. We had such a negative experience with the other restaurant we were supposed to go to, but I guess everything worked out for the best because we ended up being much happier at Barker's! read more

Overall the atmosphere and service were great. Our waitress was super on top of things and very efficient. The food was good but needed just a little something to put it into the great range. The fries and chips were homemade and really good. The batter on the chicken tenders was more like fish fry batter which really threw my son for a loop. Tasted good, just different. Our go-to when we don't know what else to do. We love the Wisconsin culture of sitting at the bar, ordering a beer, and having some good food. Barkers always delivers a good time. They are hands down the best burger in town, they also have a great beer selection. While I do see lots of chatting among the wait staff, we are always taken care of well. I stopped by and stretched my legs walking down to the St. Croix riverfront, and then up through the village. Sooo good - 5 stars all the way! I don't give out a lot of 5 star reviews but Barker's earns all 5 of them! Our food was excellent and the service was 100% on-spot. They have a nice selection of specialty cocktails and beers. I tried and Barker's Bulldog. It was great. Every bite of our food was very good. I particularly loved the cheese curds and the sour Tabasco type house dipping sauce - yum! My tomato basil soup was off-the-hook great, some of the best I've ever tasted. And my friend's tomato based seafood soup was first rate. Our lunch entrees were equally good. My El Diablo Chicken Sandwich was excellent with the right amount of heat and a generous hunk of breast meat. The hand-cut Barker's fries were perfect. I tried my friend's Reuben Sandwich - again - very good. Our desserts were awesome too. I had a root beer float and my buddy had a chocolate raspberry tort - wow! Last but not least, our service was totally on-point. Everyone was really nice, friendly, cheery, and attentive (without being overbearing). It's nice to dine at a place where the employees are all great. They obviously take pride in working at Bark's. This is definitely one of the top spots in Hudson. I got the chop salad with chicken. It has a mango vinaigrette as a dressing and it is very sweet. I liked it but some people might find it a bit over powering. There were lots of walnuts in the salad as well. Overall a very good salad. I also tried my boyfriends Fish and Chips - these were just ok. Would not order again. I had a taste of the BBQ bacon burger and the turkey burger. The bbq burger had a fantastic bbq sauce and the bacon was both huge and done perfectly. The turkey burger was better than average. When friends invited us to join them for dinner on the road on our way back to Detroit from Minneapolis, I expected a ho-hum run-of-the-mill bar and grill when they said to meet them still Barker's. It was most decidedly NOT ho-hum. Though our Mediterranean salad came without dressing and the fries were extremely over fried, Barker's was a solid 4.5 stars. Great service, large portions and our companions happy with extensive and tasty beer selection. However, the star of the show was the chicken sandwich from heaven. The cheese curd appetizer was delicious, as was the hamburger and the gator tot hotdog with short ribs and Brussels that my family let me try, but I will be dreaming for a long time of this crispy, juicy chicken with pickle, lettuce, tomato, onion and sriracha Mayo for many moons to come. read more

A cozy feeling bar and grill in downtown Hudson. We stopped in for lunch on a Sunday and were seated in a large booth along the main wall in the bar area. This place has a great feel, warm and inviting with friendly service. Our server couldn't have been nicer and stopped by to check on us and grab drink refills at just the right time. I love Barker's! It's one of my favorite restaurants and the staff is always nice! I always get there chicken tenders with fries and they always give me pickles on the side. One time a staff member gave me a little thing of pickles! She was really nice. I don't think I've ever experienced a rude staff. There food is delicious and you can get popcorn well you wait. It's great for kids and if you have a group or family of people you would like to bring, there's plenty of room. I have a big family so it's perfect for us. Though if you are ordering it during this time it takes a long time. It took an hour to get us are food, but that's ok. It was busy I think, or they were stressed. Mommy used to say life was like a box of chocolates you never know what you're gonna get, and this time well what did we get? Fries were pee pee poo poo monkey. My frickles were entirely inedible and my fries were absolute butt cheeks. We had wings from a bulimic chicken. The water was definitely not high quality H2o. Times must be rough because my chocolate milk had a drop of chocolate in it. It was 42 outside and 92 in there, there was a potato chip in our water when she gave it to us and the fish was pee pee dog water. The manager was flamin hot cheetos and gave us a free desert. I stopped in for lunch again recently and thought it is about time that I write about this spot. Barkers is great for lunch or dinner. It's the usual American style Restaurant and everything I have had here is cooked well and tastes delicious. I have had the wings (you can pick your hot level from 1-10), they are served with veggies and ranch, hot and very juicy. Great wings but I like things hot and the hottest level is not super hot, more of a medium to me. I've had their soups, pulled pork, caramelized carrots etc. all were done well and I definitely recommend the carrots; very tender and sweet. Burgers have always been juicy and they have always made my medium rare selection correctly (I love medium rare and restaurants that know how to do it are always high on my recommendation list). Yesterday, I ordered up the Patty Melt Burger with their house made fries. I know several people who come here just for the fries. They are skin on fresh cut fries and served golden with a fluffy center. The Patty Melt Burger is charbroiled and topped with caramelized onions, sharp cheddar and swiss cheeses on toasted rye bread. I added a little ketchup to my burger to add a little sauciness and it was perfect. A wonderfully juicy and tasty burger with plenty of cheese and onions. I will have to get this burger again soon. This is a restaurant right on the main drag of downtown Hudson. It has a screen porch in the back with a partial view of the St. Croix river, great spot to sit in the summer. I haven't been this full in awhile, but I usually never order anything to drink. After consulting the Yelp restaurants listed in Hudson, we decided on this place mainly due to the bloody mary. Their bloody mary is off the hook good. Pretty spicy. Perhaps I should have opted for the chaser. Nice blend accompanied with a meat stick, olive, pickle slice, celery stick and a lime. Really enjoyed it. I ordered the mushroom swiss burger with the hand cut fries. Both were delciious. The fries were right out of the fryer with just the amount of salt. Burger was good, chesse perfectly melted. J ordered the southwest chicken sandwich with fries which he said was good and filling. We sat right by the popcorn machine and right where the food came out, so a little febreze might be in order. Very cute place. They have a cute little back area that looks out onto the water.
