DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE, SAVE YOUR TIME/MONEY/ENERGY I left my car here to get work done and it had been sitting in their lot for almost a week with no update. I finally called to see what was going on and they had not even started working on my car. It was just sitting there while I was paying each day for a rental and I had to waste even more of my time to pick my car back up and bring it somewhere else. I was first made aware of Ben's Auto Repair about 3 years ago when I was doing Uber Ride share in Escondido. I kept picking up and dropping off customers several times a week from this business. Each would rave about their workmanship, honesty and reasonable prices. I have since been taking my Kia Optima there for all of my repairs. Ben and Andy, the owners have always been honest and first class when it comes to my repairs. I still drive Ride share so I put very hard miles on my vehicle and having an "HONEST" and reliable mechanic is invaluable. They have never tried to upsell me on any unnecessary repairs but have always pointed out when things will be needing repairs soon to prevent breakdowns and avoid any potential serious road failures during operation. Recently i was having a series of unexpected financial troubles. Just as that happened my car needed some somewhat expensive repair work. And I cannot promise this will happen to everyone as I know Ben and Andy are not in business to finance loans. But knowing i depend on my vehicle for income Andy arranged to complete the repairs and allowed me to pay him half the money at completion and the other half a few days later so that I could continue to earn my income. I dont know another mechanic in town that would do such a thing. At the risk of doubling their business and not being able to get in to see them when I need them I had to write this review. Brought car in to get oil change, some employee were rude when I requested service at th front desk. Had a whole tantrum, unprofessional. Was referred from a relative. Oil change was $90 for a couple thousand miles miles but a normal oil is 5-10K? It don't add up, never coming back, save yourselves money else where read more

My brakes were making a noise right when I back out of the driveway. I came in and then looked the car right away and told me that the brakes were fine and I didn't need to do anything. Very impressed with these guys! I had gotten a quote for AC repair from my regular mechanic for about $1500. My coworker suggested I call a mechanic friend of his, Austin, for a second opinion. Austin quoted me $1000 over the phone. I live near SDSU but for $500 savings I was more than willing to drive up to Escondido. And I'm sure glad I did. The guys were fantastic. I dropped off my car at 8 am and they had it back to me 3 hours later working perfectly. I was so appreciative of the quickness of the repair as I'm a single mom and have to pick up my kid at daycare by 5 pm in San Diego so I didn't have a full day to have it done. Best of all, they actually came in at $950. It ended up being about $600 savings (full original quote was $1544)! And as I was leaving, I was told "If ANYTHING goes wrong, bring it in immediately and we will fix it." Now that's customer service. It's no wonder these guys have such great yelp reviews. If I lived in the area, they would be my regular garage. I will definitely continue to use them for any major repairs and highly recommend them to others looking for a quality, honest mechanic. read more

I called Andy at Ben's for a quote for a Heater Core. Quoted me a price and stuck to that price.( very rare in the automotive world) He was nice and friendly and gladly gave me a ride home. He had the job done in 1/2 a day. (Usually an all day job.) There price wasn't the cheapest or the most expensive. Honest mechanics with reasonable prices! I had my car taken there for changing the timing belt, suspension, tires and engine mount. They did a good job and they charged me less than what I was quoted for at another shop. Ben has been doing this for many years and his brother Andy has been helping out a lot for the past years. They're both honest and understand no one wants to break an arm and a leg to fix a car. Ben was test driving with me in the parking lot and just from the noise he already knew what's wrong. They are always busy so the turnaround time is a bit long. That's pretty much the only con I can think of. Make sure you call them before you drop off or pick up your car so you won't waste your time waiting around. They've been accommodating with my schedule though. The fact that they open on Saturdays for half day makes a huge difference! read more

These guys use to be great. Not sure what happen? The last time I was in their shop they replaced my fuel pump. I ended up having to go back 3 times because my check engine light wouldn't turn off . I did have the check engine light tested out by someone else and it ended up being directly related to the gas pump. I let Ben know this however all he wanted to do was replace the fuel pump and charge me for it . So now I will have pay someone to fix the problem they created. Also they replaced my water pump . After the work was done the guy never put coolent it in .Thank god I checked it when I got home. Ever since then it has done nothing but leak coolant. Be careful with these guys . I wouldn't recommend taking your car here. My experience was a nightmare that I'm still dealing with. I had the worst experience with these people. They lack customer service in every sense of the word. I got a $3500 repair here and they took way longer than it should have, never called me to update me at all, LEFT BLACK OIL FINGER STREAKS AND HANDPRINTS ON MY INTERIOR. The coolant tank that wasn't even a part of the issue became one of the main issues and will not stop leaking and causing issues. They claimed they replaced the tank but it is obvious they did not and completely ripped me off. They are extremely sketchy. The "repair" they did was not sufficient, I had to take it back to get the whole thing done again luckily it was under warranty but bc I wasn't handing over any more money to them they wouldn't work on my car FOR MONTHS. Andy kept ducking my calls and every time I would call to talk with him he'd be "not available" and I was without a car this whole time. When finally going to pick up my car he was too much of a pussy to talk to me and disappeared and sent a mechanic out to talk to me instead that had no idea what was going on. After all of this bullshit the problem was never even solved and I am still trying to fix the issue. I would never ever recommend this shop to any one. Do not go here. read more

I had an excellent experience here. I first called him over the phone asking for a diagnostic for a used car I was checking out to buy in the area, and he was able to squeeze me in within a matter of minutes. Very kind, honest, and efficient mechanic. He saved me from wasting thousands of dollars on a car by providing me with a very thorough list of things that were problematic about the used car. One problem in particular that he pointed out was that there were fluids and oil leaking from the car between the transmission and oil. Additionally, he ran the plates and discovered other problems that he told me about. He is very knowledgeable and knows what he is doing, 10/10 would recommend. Absolute shock and surprise to say the least. Long story short I was told by another shop in town that will remain unnamed *cough* west escondido *cough* that my alternator died, they quoted me close to $550. My roommate suggested I check out Bens, so, reluctantly I did. Turns out my alternator belt slipped off! Turns out that was all that was wrong, I ended up replacing it and my serpentine belt, since both were old and they were so honest, for around $120, they even topped off my oil and fluids at not extra charge! While I was waiting for repairs, this guy from Texas came in with issues he thought was his Jeeps suspension. Complaints of bad sounds and vibrations while he was driving. Turns out the people who did his last tire change didn't tighten the lug-nuts! These guys are honest, there is a reason why so many people bring their cars here. Great customer service, diagnosis and repair with out being outrageously priced. I'm always hesitant when going to take my car to the shop this side of the border, just because frankly I always get gouged. This was not the case at this auto repair shop that was recommended by my dad. My car needed to pass the smog test and had the check engine light on. They fixed my small evap leak, which was due to the previous owner of my car installing the gas tank wrong which led to it breaking, they dropped the tank and repaired my existing one. Both my car door locks were tricky and the driver side door handle was broken and had to be open from the outside. To top it off the trunk lock was stuck shut. Got my gas tank sealed and repositioned, both door lock buttons repaired, door handles repaired, trunk lock repaired and resmog thrown in for no additional fee...all for $385, I think this was more than reasonable!!! This place now has another loyal customer. Definitely will be coming back here if going down to tijuana is not an option. Bring your car here, you won't regret it. read more

I was to told of this place by a friend...had some problems with my brakes. I was told to ask for Andy...I was greeted with a warm welcome from the start. For whatever reason, Ben was apparently not interested in my business. I stopped in twice to ask about a simple repair and was met with rudeness and an uncooperative spirit each time. Quite disappointing, especially since I was referred by an old customer of his whom he (Ben) acknowledged working with for over 15 years. I also feel that he tried to "up" the repair that was required needlessly. To my knowledge, when one motor mount needs to be replaced it isn't customary to replace them all, but that's what he maintained. Perhaps there just isn't enough money involved when working on old '88 Camrys. But the other guy has an old Camry, too, so go figure. Must be me. Oh well, Ben, I guess that's the way things go.
