Being a Whittier resident, I called Ben's on a Thursday since I couldn't unplug a bathroom sink drainage issue. The owner quoted me a price and said they would be sending their technician Brandon out the same day - within hours. Brandon called two hours later and confirmed he would arrive at my house in half an hour. After trying to snake out the sink from the top, he advised me he had to remove a pipe underneath the sink to run the snake thru. Since the pipe had not been removed for decades - his concern was that a pipe to the sink may break and disclosed this. Brandon was able to loosen the pipe without any damage, cleaned up everything and the price was reasonable. Last November we discovered water on our kitchen floor. Our condo association sent out a plumber who said it's not a slab leak and not that bad. It way late on Friday, it could wait til Monday unless we wanted to pay more. By Saturday night, I was cooking dinner standing in a puddle. Sunday it was so bad, my wet vac couldn't keep up so I felt I had to call the emergency plumber. He showed up fairly quickly, confirmed that it was indeed a slab leak. Our kitchen was remodeled recently and I was afraid that it would have to be demolished. The emergency plumber said that he would be more comfortable referring the job to Ben's plumbing and rooter. Thank goodness he did. The plumbers took two days to very carefully, almost surgically, to repair the leak. Aside from some cabinetry under the sink, you wouldn't know any work was done. Hot & cold copper water lines were crossed at couple locations under the house. Chris was patient enough to do a thorough inspection by crawling under the house's crawl space. Hot & cold copper water lines were repiped and now all faucets left handle is hot and right handle is cold like it should be. He also helped out with our water heater with the pilot not staying on. Drained it, replaced parts. Finished the job in 1 hour. If he notices anything wrong with your equipment, he will tell you while he is fixing it. So that's a plus. He does clean up after he is done with the job. The best thing is that he is local. Expensive, shoddy work. Less than two years ago, my husband accidentally punctured a pvc pipe with a shovel while doing some gardening. Water shot up like a geiser. We shut off the water main and called Ben's. Two guys came out and quoted us $450 to fix it. We felt like we were in a pinch, so we agreed, although that seemed very pricey. They started working on the job, but had to leave for a supply run. They finally came back and finished the repair. Fast forward to a few weeks ago, and our gardener told us that he noticed an underground leak. (Same spot as the repair) He said it had been leaking for quite awhile. Ben's crew came out again and said that they could fix it again for us, but because it had been almost two years that their warranty is no longer in effect. We were also told that although now the job would normally cost over $600, they would "only" charge us the same price as last time. (Oh, how considerate). And by the way, if you haven't figured it out yet, NO, they don't guarantee their work. I was not happy about the idea that we could potentially be paying them every 1.75 years to come out and repair their repair. Fool me once... We called another plumber out for a second opinion. He said that the job was done incorrectly (cheaply and using the the wrong materials and wrong method). He said that they took the easy way out and that there is no way that this type of work would hold up in the long run (which was exactly our predicament). He explained the way he would do it. My husband watched him repair it and totally has confidence that the repair was done with competence and integrity. AND it only cost us $250. I would not recommend Ben's. Even at the time of the original repair, my gut told me that we were being ripped off and/or taken advantage of. Not my kind of people. We are much happier and much more confident in the work of our new plumber. read more
