    Walk The Line - Syrah
    Krista K.

We had been wanting to try this winery for awhile and finally made it yesterday. What a hidden gem. The wines and the property are phenomimal and our experience was fantastic. The wines are really good, smooth. We had the Syrah "Walk the Line" it was amazing. When we got home we opened up two different Syrah's from local wineries and did a blind taste test, Cheval's Syrah definatley won, hands down! We will definately be going back there. Cheers!

Super dog friendly AND human friendly. The Staff is very friendly and nice. I personally enjoy their sauvignon blank, "Melody Zapper". The winery owner is also a champion horse & alpaca owner that you get to see them in the same property. They do weekly? Or monthly? event and live performances during the weekends. Definitely one of my favorite spots to relax.

What a beautiful atmosphere! It was a gorgeous, sunny day in Escondido and the wine was good...however...the wine was SO expensive and a $15 tasting of 4 wines was a ridiculous, minuscule pour! The bottles started at $57. Everyone around us was so posh, we felt completely unwelcome. Of note, we received a warm welcome from the goats, dog, horses and lamas.

I had never heard of this winery until yesterday. We came here for the country line dancing and...wine! The winery is located in a unique location of Escondido. Driving in at night it was difficult to know exactly where we were at but that means a day trip is needed. The winery building/house/villa was beautiful with a nice big open area. The wine is very pricey. We got a bottle of Maverick and it was absolutely amazing. Smooth and silky with a nice finish. Not too fruity or peppery. The line dancing was fun to watch and maybe next time I'll jump out there. Looking forward to coming back here to try the other wines. But for now, Maverick is thumbs up and fist bumps!!

I debated writing a review because I'd like to keep this gem to myself. It is literally an 8 minute drive from my house but seems like a world away. The property is beautiful, the people are warm and inviting, views are perfect and the wine is delicious. Spent a lovely sunny afternoon tasting and then enjoyed a wonderful glass of their Cab Franc ( Bullet) . Thoroughly enjoyed my time. Hope to be back soon

Gorgeous up close shot of the vineyard!

This winery is truly a hidden gem in Northern San Diego County! We stayed at the Villa located above the wine tasting room. Beautiful 2 bedroom, 1 bath with a full kitchen and living area. Outdoor patio is equipped with a fireplace, tv, outdoor seating, and exceptional views of the vineyard. We thoroughly enjoyed being there and it was the perfect "staycation" we needed during the quarantine. Along with its amazing views and delicious wines, there are horses, alpacas, and goats on the property making this winery one of a kind! The wine is estate grown & unfiltered making it have an exceptional smooth taste. Loved our stay here at this unique place and will be back for more!!

We went to Cheval for Happy Hour after work a few weeks back and had a great time! The wine was good, we could walk around and see the animals and the line dancing was a total hit! We didn't expect to stay so long, but had a hard time leaving! The only reason why I didn't give them 5 stars is because the wine is pretty expensive. Their happy hour pricing isn't much of a deal and is only on a few wines (of course the wine we didn't like) and they don't give happy hour pricing on the bottles. So at about $40 a bottle for Sauv Blanc, that gets spendy.

I was really surprised to find this hidden gem not to far from home! The staff was very nice and the wine was great! The ranch is beautiful and my kids loved seeing the alpaca and horses! The line dancing crew was legit! Lots of fun! Highly recommend checking it out!

a bottle of wine and two wine glasses

My boyfriend rented the master suite above the winery for my birthday in July so this is very overdue but it was amazing! The winery itself is so beautiful during the day and night. My favorite part had to be the animals for sure. They had horses, alpacas and they were also very friendly. We truly had the most amazing time we can't wait to go back!

She stated she doesn't understand why "sunset is advertised online" when they are closed during summer sunset time. She seemed a bit annoyed at us, which I understood as closing time was happening soon. We left before other patrons did, prior to 8:30pm. I had no issue with that, my issue was with the way she spoke to my partner. As we were closing out she said we could not get a new glass, but could get topped off. My boyfriend asked if she could top off his glass, and she said something along the lines of "look at you using a new vocab word, you were paying attention to what I said". I'm not one who gets offended easily, but that comment came across as patronizing to me. Perhaps that wasn't her intention, but it was how it was perceived. Such a shame. I'd love to continue coming back, I just hope future interactions are more welcoming.

There was only one employee we saw during the entirety of our visit but he was super friendly. We ordered a bottle, the charcuterie platter and a pizza. The charcuterie board is refrigerated and they provide a bag of crackers as well. We went with the veggie pizza & it took maybe 20 minutes to come out and was absolutely delicious. The grounds themselves are absolutely gorgeous. There are 3 covered areas to sit at up top with plenty of seating. Down the first flight of stairs has a fish pond and some beautiful areas to walk around. I'm not sure if that area was where they do weddings as there was also a spot across the way with a dais, but we didn't make it over there. The wine was delicious! Unfortunately, our first impression wasn't the best. When we arrived, we weren't given even a brief explanation of how the tastings worked or what our options were. The young woman basically told us to pick a flight and asked what we wanted to do. I was interested in creating my own flight and asked what the difference was between the options, but instead of explaining it, she seemed to brush off the question. I finally had to say, "You're not helping me at all." When people are visiting a winery, especially for the first time, a simple 30-second explanation of the tasting options would make such a difference. We also had no idea there was a food truck around the corner attached to the winery serving fantastic food! Because no one mentioned it, we ended up purchasing the prepackaged charcuterie instead. We discovered the food truck afterward and really wished we had known about it. That being said, the rest of our visit was wonderful. There was great live music, the atmosphere was relaxed and enjoyable, and sitting outside overlooking the vineyard was absolutely beautiful. It's exactly the kind of setting you want when spending an afternoon at a winery. Orfila has so much going for it. With a warmer, more informative welcome for first-time visitors, this easily could have been a five-star experience.

Service (4.5/5): We ordered a bottle of wine about 10 minutes before close. One of the owners was nice enough to allow us to stay outside on the patio way past closing time. He said we could stay as long as we wanted. That's the type of service you rarely see at drinking holes these days. Drinks (4/5): If you're interested in doing a wine tasting, they have both a red and white option. They serve it to you on a cutting board of sorts with a piece of paper giving you a short description of each wine. From there, we had a bottle of sauvignon blanc.
