Nice hotel for Salem but horrible food. I have been here twice. I mean I didn't even want to come back the second time but I thought that I would try again because there aren't many nice places to have dinner in Solame. I got a steak and I am pretty sure it was microwaved, and so chewy with those grisly hard parts. Like seriously some gross steak here people. My husband and I had seen the reader board for cioppino and decided to have or anniversary dinner at Bentleys The cioppino broth had a very good flavor but it was mostly potatoes with some white fish, the menu said it had shrimp of which there was none, crab and we got one small difficult to eat claw, I'm not sure if there was any calamari. At $29.00 I expected a good seafood stew not a potato soup, I didn't even know potatoes belong in the dish. We complained to our waitress and the chef was disinterested. Bentley's is one of those hit or miss places for me. I've been there well over 10 times and most of the time I'm really happy with the food, drinks and service. However, I have sent food back because of it being bland. Their drinks are awesome though, never tasted watered down, 5 stars for drinks. The service is always prompt, polite and welcoming. It's just the food...you need to be careful when ordering. I highly recommend their steak, burger, crab cakes and pork chop. Stay away from the mac and cheese, chowder and chicken dishes - they're not horrible, just bland. read more

Fabulous food!!! The roasted chicken with potatoes were wonderful! The chicken flavorful and moist, even the breast!! Went to Bentley's for our 15th wedding anniversary - it was a nice touch that they mentioned that when we arrived (I had written that on our Open Table Reservation). The beautifully romantic atmosphere cannot be beat - loved it! Our server was lovely and attended to us just enough. The cocktails were OUTSTANDING! Unfortunately, the main reason we went there was for the food, and it was just okay. For the price, not what we expected. My husband had the NY steak, and I had the lamb. Both tasty, but not phenomenal (perhaps our expectations were too high?). The mashed potatoes that came with both our meals were decidedly subpar. We stopped in here randomly on our way down I-5. The restaurant is beautiful inside. We were apparently feeling like carnivores because I had prime rib (Sundays only I was told) and the bf had steak. The seafood chowder (w/bacon!) was actually my favorite part. The other food was good in the usual steak and potatoes kind of way. Nice selection of veggies not overcooked on the side. The bread that came out first was cold and boring and came with what looked like some sort of herb or garlic butter but it just tasted like plain butter. No big deal in the long run really. Popped in here with my co-workers after checking into the hotel earlier in the evening. We just grabbed drinks and chatted about the conference the next day. It was pretty empty, but they did have a decent selection of signature cocktails. If I stayed at the hotel again, I'd definitely drop in for a drink. read more

Menu is a little on the small side, but I guess that's not a bad thing to have a restaurant that makes a few items that are great, rather than a lot of dishes that are mediocre. I had the Wild Boar and my wife had Pork Chops.....both were excellent. This was my 2nd time here and I'd have to say that this is a pretty good spot to have a nice dinner. Maybe Salem needs to have more places like this instead of all the dive bars/restaurants around the downtown area. read more

A good place to go to get your food and drink on, especially if you hit up happy hour. We only got drinks (having eaten ahead of time, unfortunately), but I could see what other patrons had ordered and it looked awesome. Like my quote says, "I wish I was hungry"!!!! read more

I came here once on a business trip and have thought about their roasted chicken ever since. I came back while on vacation and was not disappointed! I haven't tried anything else on the menu, but the atmosphere is relaxed, the drinks are strong, the service is attentive, and the roasted chicken is memorable. I stayed at the Grand Hotel for business this past week. Bentley's was right downstairs. Very satisfied. Service was top notch. My server actually let me know she was going on break and told me who would be covering her and that server introduced herself. No lapse in service. Had the scallops nicoise...excellent. Hopefully my trip pays off and I will be back more often. read more

Hotel staff told me it was the closest, most convenient place to get a good meal. Ambiance is great as is service but I waited 20 minutes for my small, dry, $19 chicken dinner. And ambiance took a dive when the two buzzed tools next to me at the bar started getting really loud and dropping the f-bomb every other word. It's too late and I'm too tired to be tolerant or proactive. Highlight was the local wine flight of Pinot Noirs. And the attentive bar service. read more

We arrived a little later in the evening and stayed at Phoenix grand hotel. This restaurant is in the hotel and I am so glad because otherwise we would have missed a stupendous meal. 3 of us ordered steaks. They were seasoned and cooked to perfection. I chose a wine flight and will be buying 2 out of the 3 wines. The other meal was pizza and he loved it. We had to take my 6 month old grandson into the restaurant. we had been traveling all day so we were a ragged crew. The staff could not have been more gracious. We have eaten here many times with great service and food. Our latest trip was a great disappointment mainly due to inexplicably slow service at every turn -- drinks, salad, entree and dessert. The waiter said it was slow due to a new chef and new menu. I left a note saying I hoped they would all learn to do better, only to be accosted in the parking area by her accusing me of ruining her evening. Nice restaurant with upscale food but relaxed atmosphere. The Thai Spice Mussels (special) were unbelievable. The clam chowder is supposed to be one of their signature dishes. Very good chowder with nice mix of clams and salmon. The mussels were the highlight though read more

Went to Bentley's for Happy Hour and was pleasantly surprised! The cocktails were delicious, perfectly balanced and well made. We ordered the crab cakes, calamari and the panzanella salad. The crab cakes were delicious, I wanted more of them and the calamari had a spicy dipping sauce that was really good. The salad was the topper! Delicious with a perfect dressing. Over all well done! I am so sad to have to write this review. Our favorite place to go in Salem for many years is now really poor. The ambience and service are still great but the food, which used to be gourmet quality is now almost not fit to eat. I am not exaggerating when I say that the bread is not edible. It is so dry and stale and flavorless that they may as well not ask it anyone wants any (could that be the plan?). We used to eat here at least twice a a week because the food was so good. We tried it last week and my husband said "never again". He couldn't eat his sandwich because the meat was tough, gristly and not chew-able. The quality just isn't there any more. This change has come with a steep hike in price which would be worth it if the food was still as good as it used to be, but it has taken a dive. It breaks our hearts because we have many happy memories of the place. read more

Where are the great restaurants in Salem? This isn't one of them. We go to Salem frequently and our favorite innovative restaurant is gone so we tried here. Oh we were warned it was nothing special despite its big city feel. We ordered goat cheese in romesco sauce... It was ok nothing great- you can make this at home... Very easy!! Wine selection is fine had a great glass of Zerba cab from Walla Walla but really $14.75 per glass? Ordered the hanger steak, good flavor cooked perfect and chewy. Like eating razor clams... The green beans were blanched, not cooked tender crisp. If the largest portion of food on the plate is beans cook them correctly! Garlic mashed was light on the garlic. The food had no wow factor. Lastly, if you are bigger than a size 12 or bigger than a double d don't sit at the end booth.. Trust me you will squish. read more
