Best dinner I've had in a Salem restaurant. I highly recommend making a reservation in advance. My first time here I didn't have time to make one and we had to wait about 45 minutes for a table to open up. In the meantime we sat at the bar and had some fabulous drinks and talked to their wonderful somm. The somm, bartenders, hostess, and our server were are very friendly and knowledgable. The salads, entrees, and desserts were all delicious. The giant fire pit and comfortable seating make for a nice romantic, intimate, and cozy atmosphere. I had big expectations for Bentley's as I truly lived my first visit a couple years ago. I ordered a light lunch (Caesar's salad and a bowl of clam chowder) it was nothing spectacular. I've had better salad at Applebee's. I ordered light because I had every intention of ordering dessert as it was my birthday, yet I was not offered anything other than my check, which was offered midway through my salad. My server did always make sure my glass was filled, yet I come from a background in customer service so it was not great not terrible. Overall the place is beautiful but the food and service was not what I remember and not worth the price. Unfortunately I will not be coming back or recommending to friends. read more

I've eaten here 3 times during stays at the Grand Hotel, and been very pleased each time with the food, wine selection and service. I can't remember what I've had during previous visits, though am pretty sure one included a perfectly cooked (= medium rare) filet mignon or rack of lamb. This time my son and I split 4 small plates: Sea Scallops, Seared Ahi, Dungenous & Red Crab Cakes and Smoked Mac & Cheese. The first 3 were outstanding - in terms of preparation, sauces and accompaniments on the plates. I'm not much of a Mac & Cheese person, but that dish was better than other renditions I've sampled. I also had the house salad, which marks the first time I've had sun-dried tomatoes in a salad; it was also outstanding. I was sad to see that the Abacela Tempranillo is no longer (or not currently) available on the wine list, but the glass of Trinity Syrah (from Rogue Valley) was a better accompaniment to the small plates I had tonight (I tend to pair Rhone reds with seafood, as I don't really like white wine). This is my favorite place to go in Salem. The décor is beautiful, it's quite and intimate enough for a romantic dinner yet they cater to families as well. They have a great selection of wine and the price of food is outstanding for what you get. My husband, daughter (2 yrs. old) and I went for lunch and when we walked in I thought we should go somewhere else with a toddler in tow since it looked like a upscale restaurant WAY out of our budget. But the weight staff assured us that they cater to families and made us feel very comfortable. The food looked beautiful when served and tasted delicious! We spent the same amount here that we do when we go to places like Red Robin, however, Bentley's blows the competition out of the water with the quality of both atmosphere and food. read more

The cab cakes are really good- crunchy on the outside and mostly crab on the inside. It comes with an Asian slaw that was a little too vinegary but still good. The blackened snapper was excellent, seasoned to perfection and the fish was cooked perfectly. The mustard sauce was light and complimented the fish nicely. The vegetables were crisp and not over cooked. The beans were a bit bland but I think a good compliment to an already spicy dish. I would definitely eat here again. read more

Stayed at the Grand Hotel for our first anniversary. We had dinner here and sat by the beautiful fire pit. Atmosphere was great! We had the crab cakes and it was average- a little too much filler. The dinner was average for the price. I had the prime rib which was mediocre. My wife's dish of squash ravioli was very well prepared. The low score is for the service. The wine list was extensive and looked great. I asked the waiter for his opinion on a couple of fine reds. His response was ' I am the last person to ask about wine'. I was actually shocked by his response. He didn't offer to have anyone else come to the table. For a restaurant of this caliber in a great hotel, one expects better training and knowledgeable staff for meals and wines offered on their menu. It would behoof management to ensure this happens to cater to the clientele dining at this restaurant. read more

I enjoy Bentley's it's a great place for an after work drink and the food is decent too. I wouldn't say it's gourmet but it's definitely good and well prepared. They make delicious craft cocktails and the staff is friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere is nice and lively especially during happy hour. read more

2Sept17 @ 6pm Restaurant in the grand hotel. Great ambiance. Big fire pit in center of the dining room. Lots of wood. Big room with lots of tables and a long bar to one side. Quick friendly service with lots of smiles. Lots of good stuff to say about this place. The drinks are very good. They have bleu cheese olives for the martinis. The clam chowder is outstanding. The issue we had and the reason for less stars is the rib eye steak. First let me say that we were a party of six and the food came out in a timely fashion and all together which is the way it should be but isn't always the case. Now back to the ribeye. The other steaks on the menu indicated USDA choice but this one didn't, we should have asked, because the steak was not choice and may not have been select. There was lots of chewy and stuck in your teeth stuff and no good meat taste. The vegetables that came with it were lukewarm and unremarkable. We expected a bit better for our $30. Comments from others in our party: The halibut was dry. The crab cakes were good. The raspberry lemoncello cake was good. The Caesar salad was just ok. When the fire in the pit went out we asked them to relight it but they didn't. Our king suite at the hotel was big and roomy but noise from the street got through whatever sound barrier there might be. The air conditioning worked well during a very hot couple of days in Salem. Once again another great time at Bentley's. Food is very good and a little of the ordinary or Salem. It is nice to have a place in town where you can go out and have a quite dinner. I generally steer clear of Bentley's because I find the food uninspired and somewhat sterile. And I bristle at their price point. But I found myself here with friends who wanted to see the firefighter bagpipers play on Saint Patrick's Day (an annual festivity that I would now recommend to anyone and everyone). My companion and I ordered the seared ahi while we waited for our friends, which is served with sauteed peppers, capers, a smooth slick of olive tapenade and mild, pickled green chiles. The tuna was cooked perfectly and my companion really enjoyed the dish. When our friends arrived, they ordered the same appetizer, but it arrived with no sign of the colorful sauteed peppers or capers. Ahi, tapenade and a huge pile of the pickled chiles. I realize that this is one of their busier nights of the year, but at what point does a chef send out a plate that has little resemblance to the menu description? It was almost a completely different dish. None in my group seemed to mind; the beer was flowing, the corned beef and cabbage dish was especially well-received. My friend's steak was overcooked but he opted not to send it back and raved about the flavor. I thought it was a little odd that the chicken in my lettuce wraps was crispy-fried chicken (not sure why I thought I was ordering something healthful.....) but the flavors were good. I had pretty high expectations...the menue looked amazing but the food did not live up to our expectations. It was my birthday dinner and we were so excited to try this restaurant we had heard so many wonderful things about. It started with my cocktail, I love bloodymarys! If you do too, this is not the place to enjoy one. We ordered our dinner, my husband steak should have been well done but it was basically burnt, my daughters chicken was over cooked and dry, my shrimp was overcooked and hard, my youngest daughter had the porkchop and work up this morning sick to her stomach. We also had the creambrule for desert and none of them had that nice shell on the top that you look forward to cracking with your spoon. The food and service was both ok but the mojito I ordered was the worst I have ever had. The mint was not muddled but appeared that they put it in the shaker with the ice and shook vigorously. So there was tiny mint pieces all over the place. The taste was not great either and I paid over 8 dollars for it. My husband and I both had steak, which was good, but nothing spectacular. My wife and I stopped in for a late lunch while on a shopping trip in Salem. We sat at a booth overlooking the fire pit. Our server was Jessica the bartender. She was very pleasant and efficient. She made our drinks exceptionally well, I am an Old Fashion fan and try them at every chance. I have had them all over the west and have been disappointed in most of them, especially in some of the places in Portland that are supposedly known for there's. Jessica made me an incredible cocktail. It was one of the best Old Fashions I have ever had. My wife enjoyed her cocktail equally as much. Our food arrived and was fantastic. The Korean Pork wrap was an excellent app. Our lunch was great as well and super fresh. The roll and ciabatta were super soft and fresh. We will return. read more

The drinks are acceptable. One of our group really enjoyed the flirtini. Prices are high, especially for a town like Salem, but I guess this is the biggest fish in a small pond. Speaking of fish, their rockfish seemed a little whiffy. It was hard to tell, as it was drowned in a cheese/rice/salt concoction. The free range chicken? Don't even try it. It was the toughest bird I've ever seen, and that includes the fighting roosters In the Philippines. Dry, tasteless, and thoroughly unenjoyable. They get a 2/5 instead of a 1/5 because the bartender with a ridiculous mustache was nice. Other than that I'd advise you to go somewhere else. I suggest DaVinci Ristorante. read more

Amazing top notch food and service! I really enjoyed the Pinot Noir wine flight for $15 - it was a great compliment to my meal and nice to have that "tasting" experience. My only wish is that their website was more up to date with hours and information such as happy hour menu. Having a website with 4 year old information on it is just sad. I would recommend them for "late night", but they aren't open all that late. :( read more

Bentley's is a great place to eat and get some good drinks. The service can be good at times and when it's busy it can be poor. My daughter and her fun love it. Be ready to Shell out some money because it's kind of expensive but the food is well worth it. Expensive food doesn't always mean good food but in this place it does. read more

We went here for New Year's Eve. The rockfish with risotto was amazing, and the filet was perfect. Our server was very pleasant, knowledgeable about the menu ingredients, and attentive. The street doors at the corner of Trade & Liberty are not an entrance which is needlessly confusing because the restaurant signs are directly above them. The entrance is located within the hotel lobby, but because of the . Self parking is underground and the entrance is next to the valet, but I didn't see any valets. read more

Went to Bently's for the first time last night and was very impressed! Being a server at a higher class restuarant, i am very critical of other restuarants and set higher expectations. Our server was fabulous, he was very polite, and attentive to my boyfriend and i. Cocktails and food were so yummy! My 1st couple Bentley experiences just after they opened were iffy - rude waiter, and mediocre food (but if was the special Mardi Gras meal...) we went back as a group Sept 2011... food was fantastic! Bummer about our dinner tonight. We went there 5 years ago and it was great...tonight, not so. We had the tri tip steak and the communal Waygu beef bites, both very well done, or should I say hard rubber bits. I truly think it was stew meat, there was not a tad bit of tender to be found...meat was ordered rare. Meat was cold, along with the tacos, but the potato's and spinach was hot. Perhaps the chef cooked one item at a time? My poor hubby got a tough piece of meat stuck in his throat, and ended up outside on the sidewalk chocking it out. Waitress did not know the menu, service was slow, and a meh attitude. Overall..bleh, won't go here again. read more

Had lunch there yesterday. Ate there once last year. Both times it has been excellent. Very nice menu,ambiance, service, and food. A bonus reason to go is that patrons park for free in the hotel's underground garage thereby avoiding Salem's often difficult parking AND while staying DRY. The restaurant has a large fire-pit at its center and and a full service bar. I had Gorgonzola raviolis and a Truffle Caesar side salad. We shared a pair of outstanding Asian fusion crab cakes. A decent wine and beer selection at reasonable prices for a fine hotel. Our waitress was Katie who was attentive while not intrusive/hovering. We will return. read more

Went for lunch with some girlfriends and ordered a Cobb salad with bleu cheese dressing. I thought the dressing looked a little runny and more ranch-ish than bleu cheese, but I dipped my fork in and then took my first bite of salad. It tasted ranch-ish too, so I took a second bite just to make sure and then showed it to my friends who agreed that it looked like ranch. When the server came to our table I mentioned it to him and he seemed like he didn't know how to respond, but he took the container of dressing with him and departed toward the kitchen. He said that he tasted it in the kitchen, and that it tasted like ranch to him too and the kitchen staff informed him that they were out of bleu cheese dressing. Seriously?!? You run out of bleu cheese dressing so you throw some crumbles into ranch dressing and hope the customer is none the wiser???? When I am paying $15 for a salad, I expect a little better. Needless to say, I ate what I ate of the salad sans dressing. read more

I miss the old chef., we always came for crab cakes and their seasonal menu options. The food was so good but my husband I went back after they changed their chef and were totally disappointed. The menu items were changed but not for the better. I loved the crab cakes but they added a drizzle of some kind of very sour sauce which was weird, unnecessary and added nothing to the dish. I loved their butternut squash pasta and when I ordered it came completely dry (no sauce) with dry chicken and broccoli. I didn't complain but the waitress noticed that I didn't eat more than 1 bite so she offered to have a meal made for me to go for free. That was nice so I had them make me the tuna steak dish that was on the menu at the time. I tried to eat a little in the car on the way home but the tuna was completely hammered and it had some kind of berry sauce with mashed potatoes that all clashed and I didn't eat either because it simply did not taste very good. So sad that one of our favorite restaurants is no longer somewhere we want to go. read more

Bentleys used to be me and my wife's go-to place for a night out with drinks and appetizers. But that was before kids. Now out choices are a little different. We returned last night for Salem Restaurant Week. My wife did not eat but I had one of the 3 course specials (for $29). Here are the choices as listed: FIRST COURSE Classic Caesar salad or Chicken Satay or Smoked Trout SECOND COURSE Chicken Saltimbocca or Short Rib or Stuffed Snapper THIRD COURSE Dark Chocolate Marquise or Marionberry Swirl Cheesecake or Cannoli I had the Smoked Trout, Chicken Saltimbocca, and Dark Chocolate Marquise. The smokes trout was really good. I am not a fine dining connoisseur by any means but it seemed as I the dish was made to made into a small open faced sandwich of sorts. I put some trout on a flat crispy baguette, and added a thin apple slice and greens. This dish gets an A. The Chicken dish had melted cheeses on the chicken breast and sat on a yummy risotto. Add in some fresh winter veggies and the dish was complete. There were even delicious Brussels sprouts on the plate (and I typically dislike these). Overall dish was an A+ The dessert was my least favorite of the 3 courses but was still very good. Apparently I have never had a Marquise, but it was very chocolatey (which I am OK with, but not my favorite. It looked like a giant slice of fudge. The berry sauces that accompanied it were very good and made the dish for me. Total was an A- (my wife raved about it). Overall, it was a wonderful night. It's typically a bit out of our price range for regular dinners, but Salem Restaurant week really hooked me up on this one. My husband and I had seen the reader board for cioppino and decided to have or anniversary dinner at Bentleys The cioppino broth had a very good flavor but it was mostly potatoes with some white fish, the menu said it had shrimp of which there was none, crab and we got one small difficult to eat claw, I'm not sure if there was any calamari. At $29.00 I expected a good seafood stew not a potato soup, I didn't even know potatoes belong in the dish. We complained to our waitress and the chef was disinterested.
