Located in the pearlhighlands food court (in the middle of the stripmall) There are maybe 7 or 8 food counters the are right as you come in. Seating is foodcourt style and its airconditioned. The staff was cool and the order didnt take too long (it wasnt busy either) Menu (pic) good variety at fair pricing....I thought the food was good and had no complaints and would order ftom this place again.

Broiled Saba teishoku - very tasty!

There are a variety of items on the menu. Good portion sizes; the broiled Saba is tasty. It's in the food court area at Pearl Highlands Center so it can get a little loud in the dining area.

Located in the food court area at Pearl highlands. I really liked this place because it had a little bit of everything. Curry katsu for the hubby and sushi/poke and Kalbi for me! All the food was delicious and there were so many things on the menu I would like to try. 8/10 for the food. The 2 choice bento came with miso soup and salad. Service was fast and they were actually pretty busy for a Thursday night.

    Miso soup - tasty!

Located at Pearl Highlands Food court. Food is very tasty and well presented. Service is efficient and friendly. It's a food court and at times it's noisy but most of the time it's average and air conditioned. Definitely go to place when we're down in pearl city!!

    Teri Beef & Chicken Combination

I visited at noon on a Saturday so as expected, the food court was bustling with people trying to grab a quick lunch. There were a few people in front of me so there was a little bit of a wait to receive my order. The bummer of the whole ordeal was that I received the wrong order, instead of butterfish & teri chicken, I received teri chicken and beef. I didn't realize I had the wrong order until arrived home. It was partially my fault for not questioning it since the number called out was correct. What can you do? On the bright side, the teri beef and chicken were pretty good. I was relieved that their brown rice was cooked properly since a lot of places don't put enough water or it sits in the rice cooker and gets super crunchy and hard. I think that the portion was pretty generous for two entrees with miso soup so the price was worth the $20 regardless. Some minor kinks in the service but I'm not opposed to coming back and trying again!

Continuing with the close to home joints, 1.5 miles / 5 minutes from home... Welcome yet another Chinese Japanese bento shop. This time in a food court. Hey, this is Pearl City and beggars can't be choosey. From bento to a plethora including some bizarre curry bowls and udon (natto or takoyaki curry) and some poke bowls disguised as donburi to boot all at reasonable prices? What's not to like? Standard, heavily flavored, teriyaki items sat in more thick sauce, Costco processed shrimp tempura with its crisp, preservative filled greasy goodness, a fresh simple garden salad with a surprisingly good "Asian" dressing and OK quality rice. $17. No complaints on the broiled saba (mackerel) or chicken karaage. Tip: if you prefer mac salad over tossed greens, order the "daily specials" else no substitution. Online ordering available. I can easily name five better bento spots but all require a drive out of the zipcode. So again, beggars can't be choosey.

    This was $3.15 wow

Overpriced and undersized this was $3.15? Why the potato croquettes were good. But soup base tasted like it had too much water

Located in Pearl Highlands food court with a variety of Japanese bento items! I had the udon and hubby ordered the ahi poke combo with tempura and something like a fried chicken meatball? I wasn't too sure what it was but it was delicious! Everything had great flavor and I like the combination. Came with a salad, miso and rice. I should've ordered this combo rather than the udon. Why is it that my husband always orders something better than me? Luckily, he doesn't ever mind switching or sharing with me. I think you get a good portion for what you pay for and I just enjoy eating freshly made/fast teishoku! Good thing about food courts is you don't have to tip a server and it's also convenient and quick here. Parking could be sort of busy on the weekends but I never have an issue with finding a seat inside.

My husband really wanted to try this new place, so we decided to check it out. My husband got the tako ball curry and crab cream croquette, and I got tonkatsu curry. The tako ball curry turned out to be simply takoyaki with curry sauce. (Forgot to take a photo) The curry sauce had a strong flavor that reminded me of the Golden Curry brand, though it was a bit saltier than I prefer. The tonkatsu was just average, good for its price but a little overcooked. The crab cream croquette was also average. Nothing really stood out as exceptional. Customer service was good.

Had the Fry Oyster & Shrimp Katsu Plate, soooo so good. I look forward to eating here again!

Food is really good, ordered the Shrimp Katsu & Fry Oyster Plate for lunch today. Everything tastes so Ono! Look forward to dining here again. Mahalo! Belly happy

Miso Butterfish Bento - great value!
    Sarah N.

Very good Miso Butterfish Bento! This one choice bento was served with rice, tossed salad, edamame and takuwan, with a bowl of miso soup on the side. I thought it was a perfectly balanced meal at great value, especially considering it's butterfish. Aside from the bento, my son and I shared a side of Takoyaki. We had a craving for that for some time now, and although I'm sure the takoyaki wasn't made from scratch here, it was pretty decent and hit the spot. Sorry, didn't get a pic of that! There's many other items to try and I'm sure we'll be back. By the way, the workers were nice and tried to be as helpful as they could, but on the day we visited, the 2 people working had an apparent language barrier. It took a while to order because one didn't understand my question of "how many takoyaki come in one order, and what is served with it." Anyways, I'm glad we tried them out!

been wanting to try this place and finally got the chance to feed our hunger this past weekend. The teishoku and combos all come with salad and rice. And all priced reasonably. Though for the taste, it was okay. For the rice, there's a choice of white, brown or sushi rice. we ordered: 1. kalbi plate (came w/ rice and mac salad) 2. combo - unagi and ton katsu 3. chicken katsu teishoku 4. spicy ahi don Maybe it was just that day, but the chicken katsu and ton katsu were over cooked. I requested sushi rice for all. Maybe I should've stuck to plain white rice. It was dry. Maybe it was an off day when we came. Maybe if we do come back, we'll try something else.

You can find a "Free 6 Piece Chicken Karaage with a regular meal" coupon in Crave insert that's included in the Wednesday's Star Advertiser. You can also find a coupon that is included in the ValPak envelope that you receive in the mail for "Free 6 Piece Chicken Karaage with a $15 purchase". Since we had 2 coupons, my husband and I put in our own order from different workers at the same time so we could each get our own karaage. My order was ready first and my husband received his maybe 10 minutes later. Wasn't sure why the delay...a couple of people that ordered after us got their food before he did. I was getting kind of worried that my tempura was going to get soggy since it was a take out. Luckily, it wasn't but it was cooled. I could've warmed it up in the microwave but didn't want to take a chance of losing the crisp. We both ordered the Combination Meals ($17 each). You choose 2 entrees...they have 25 choices. Each meal came with toss salad, miso soup, 2 appetizers which was soybeans and takuan and a choice of white, brown or sushi rice. I ordered the Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura and Misoyaki Broiled Salmon and my husband ordered Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura and Teriyaki Chicken. The tempura included 2 shrimp, 2 green beans, 1 of each...carrot, kabocha (pumpkin) and okinawan potato. The food was tasty and loved the dressing for the toss salad. As for the chicken karaage, it was good with the tonkatsu sauce. Overall, we enjoyed the food and will be back. Will try the curry next time. This place has lots of free parking and is located in the Pearl Highlands Center food court right next to Jersey Mike's.

The chicken katsu and ebi fry lunch special was good, the curry was pretty flavorful. It reminds me of golden curry I'd make at home. The katsu was crispy as expected. I liked the rice too, the perfect kind to soak up the curry and pair with the katsu. The Katsu Kushi was fun to eat as it had a good amount of variety. I enjoyed the mochi quite a lot, the beef was a bit tough to eat, and I would note that the soft shell crab was extremely fishy. Like INEDIBLE fishy. I don't know if they always have it like that or if it was just an off one. Either way it was NOT pleasant. The service was friendly, I would definitely visit again if I'm craving katsu and/or curry and was near the area (wouldn't go out of my way for it though).

Since this place is located in the mall, parking is very easy. We ordered asahi beers to drink, chicken katsu teishoku, and several kushi katsu (zucchini, shishito pepper, mushroom, and fishcake). Food was very tasty but I noticed it was a bit oily and fatty. Food felt heavy in my stomach at the end of the dinner. Serving sizes exceeded my expectation and my friend and I shared the chicken katsu teishoku. This came with some vegetables and miso soup. Their lettuce salad is unlimited/bottomless and what helped combat the oily food. Service was okay. I didn't like that they passed our table a few times without clearing dishes after seeing us struggle with managing everything on our table. Servers did their job. I recommend trying this place! The food is very tasty and portions are big.

That spot has since closed (now home to Shaka Ramen), so when I learned about the new locations, I knew exactly where I was having dinner on my last night on the island. The two waitresses at the Pearl City location were incredibly sweet and efficient. They took our orders quickly and constantly scanned the dining room to make sure every guest had what they needed; drink refills and anything else. The interior was well lit and adorned with Japanese style kitchen curtains and posters of their most-popular ramen. The light wood on the walls and comfortable seating offered a great place to enjoy their amazing food! I ordered the spicy, flavor-packed Tan Tan Ramen along with their signature fried rice. I couldn't resist the gyoza and was hungry enough to go for six pieces instead of the usual four that come with the combo. What sets the Tan Tan ramen apart is its signature broth: a rich, creamy, and spicy blend made with sesame paste and chili oil. It has a wonderful nutty depth that perfectly coats the thick noodles and pairs beautifully with the toppings. The ramen is highly customizable, so I added extra chashu pork and Ajitama, a soft-boiled egg. The thick, spicy, and savory broth delivered an outstanding flavor profile. If you like spicy ramen, I highly recommend the Tan Tan or try the Spicy Tonkotsu...! The restaurant was easy to find in the Pearl City Shops. While it's not huge, Daiichi Ramen now has multiple locations across Hawaiʻi (Pearl City, Kahala, Kailua, plus Kailua-Kona and Hilo on the Big Island), so you're almost guaranteed to find a seat. Enjoy!

I had the tonkatsu curry, and as a big curry fan, it's good. Tonkatsu wasn't too oily, meat was juicy, and the curry taste was taste-in. I've also had the poke nachos, shrimp/vegetable tempura, and various bento dishes--always at least solid. Finally, appreciate the servers. Depending on when you go, it can get busy, but we've never had to wait too long for food and waters get refiled/plates get cleared. The underneath parking can get tight as well. But the chicken katsu was one of the worst I've ever had on O'ahu. The chicken katsu was greasy and soaked in old oil that tasted rancid and oxidized, which made the panko a disappointingly saturated mess. The panko was way too browned, and neither flaky or freshly crunchy like katsu should truly be, and was a far cry from the photo in the menu. The poor, fatty chicken quality and the rubbery skin left on the chicken pieces just added to the gristly and chewy nature of the katsu. Charging customers these prices for this kind of subpar quality chicken is absolutely insulting, and we couldn't even finish the dish. It's such a disappointment to write this kind of review, but others need to know what they're getting when they order katsu at Gyotaku.
