This review is strictly for the server that I recently had here. I wasn't able to get his name but he had longer hair (like halfway to a bob) and large framed glasses. He was extremely sassy, rude and inattentive. Made our party feel like we were an inconvenience to him. I legit had to ask myself during dinner, "where am I?" Because I thought I was at one of those restaurants in the mainland where you pay to get bad service. You know the ones where they purposely rude? It was crazy. He made us feel so stupid for asking questions. My friend was missing her ponzu so she asked him if she could get it, he pointed down and said "what's this?" Like that's just crazy to me. Never filled up our waters. Didn't even check on us after the food came. Then after we asked him for water it took him so long just to come back, we even had to flag him down just to pay our bill. I could go on and on about the night and honestly this was my favorite restaurant up until last night. Japanese hot pot in aiea. It's a nice a light meal and they offer happy hour after 830p. I got the beef nabe which came with a selection of veggies like cabbage and mushrooms etc. The set came with udon or ramen noodles as well. It's decently filling, but I would say on the pricier side. My wife got the short rib which included a good amount of meat. We also got sautéed mushrooms but wasn't anything special. Service was slow, with many empty tables inside but a long line outside. Sad to write this review but this place has gone downhill. Each time we've returned with hopes that it would get better but the service, pricing, portion size have increasingly gotten worse. I could understand same portion size and higher prices, but they've reduced their portions and increased their prices. Choose one. Tonight took the cake though as the server we had was just plain awful. Wish we got his name but he had larger framed glasses and kind of puffy thin hair. Very sassy, rude and inattentive with no tact. He should not be a server, there were other food runners there that had more manners and decency than him. We got there before happy hour and most of our party was already seated. He took only three out of the six people's on our tables order so by the time we got there our whole party didn't get a chance to order happy hour. When asked if we could still order happy hour bc we've been trying to flag him down he just says "no" with a smile and then says "you got your drinks in". While taking our regular order, my MIL ordered the konbu broth not knowing it wasn't flavored so she asked him about it and all he said was "well what do you want?" She then asked for a side of dashi to help flavor the broth and he replies "what's dashi?". You work in a Japanese nabe restaurant.... How do you not know what dashi is. Anyway he sassily says "you mean soup?". He also didn't even have the decency to walk over to them to get their order and expected them to order over the 4 other people in the party when they were clearly seated in separate booths. We also ordered a Korean fried chicken appetizer which took super long to come out. Pretty sure he forgot about it bc it was all cold by the time it got to us. No apologies or anything and you could already guess the attitude given when asked about it, I literally had to enunciate KOREAN. FRIED. CHICKEN. to him in order for him to understand what I was talking about. At this point we're all collectively over his attitude. He didn't check in throughout the meal, couldn't take count of a simple order for ponzu and goma sauce and only came back when it was time to pay. Our party had to ask another waitress for our end of the meal udon, zosui and desserts that came with the kids meal. Broth was all burnt and gross at this point... Just the type of experience where you feel like you're inconveniencing the server by dining there. Not to mention their bathrooms are disgusting. There was literally pink mold growing around the women's bathroom sink faucets so don't know how often they clean the place. Spend your money elsewhere where it's appreciated. Ichiriki has my heart. Such a hearty and healthy meal and always friendly service from Chas and Lovely when we go!! I did note that prices have gone up but if you're willing to fork it out, it's worth it! Recommend making a reservation as they do get busy and occasionally are short staffed but you should be able to grab a seat without one (unless you go during peak hours). Wow, this place is such a unique gem! Eating at Ichiriki is like being transported to a unique experience. They have Japanese style dining tables, decor and food. There are also regular tables if you prefer that as well, the staff is accommodating and attentive. They do not rush you while you're eating, but they check in right at the perfect time when they notice you are almost done with your food to bring dessert. I love their hot pot, but their hamburger patties Japanese style is amazing. It has the perfect crunch to juicy ratio. It felt like it was melting in my mouth, and I love the dip they provided. I also got the green tea ice cream in the end and it's amazing! I thought it was going to be one of those regular, cheap ice cream, but the flavor profile is actually really good and had a hint of matcha taste but mostly green tea, which I love. They also have different broths and I got the yuzu broth for the hot pot and it was amazing. Overall, so happy to be here and such a great experience with everything! It's been a few years since I've been to Ichiriki, and the pirikara broth is still the best broth I've ever had! I'm sad they don't have a fish option on the menu anymore, or at least when we went the other day. We walked right in around 5pm and got seated immediately, right before a rush of people came in! Our server was kind and attentive at first, but once our food came we weren't checked in on, nor was there someone I could flag down to order a side of ponzu. Nabe is one of my favorite foods and their nabe sets always feel very hearty but also healthy with all of the included vegetables. I enjoy the experience of cooking the ingredients myself so I can eat at my own pace. This was the first "fancy restaurant" I got to go to in high school and I was amazed. Everything tasted so good, even when I was freaking out at how weird enoki mushrooms looked to me back then. I felt like I teleported to Japan. After exploring tons of amazing foods in all kinds of different places over the years, I can still say that this place is a comfort. But do I eat substantially more now, or did the portions get smaller? I fully understand that restaurants need to weigh the costs and benefits, but I've made nabe at home enough times to know that serving more than half a mushroom, 10 dainty pieces of cabbage, 1/8" of a tofu block, and a single piece of everything else, wouldn't break the bank. I would definitely come here a lot more often if I felt that I could feel full on $50 here. And get this, the enoki I first learned to love here isn't part of the main course anymore; not even just a sliver. It costs an additional $6 if you want those fancy things. The things that keep me coming here after all of that ranting is: 1. The service is always impeccable. I don't think I've ever had one bad server here after 10+ years. 2. Their broth slaps. 3. I can't get over the experience of sitting on the floor to eat in a restaurant. 4. One of the original Japanese Nabe restaurants on Oahu, Ichiriki is still my favorite nabe restaurant. There is Japanese-style seating on the floor. Don't worry, you there are actual chairs and a cushion for your tush so you're not actually sitting on the floor. You do have to climb down though, and there is an opening for your legs to dangle under the table. Might be tough to swing if you have knee issues or have a hard time getting up. But if my friend who was wearing a boot and has a crutch can do it, so can you! They have an extensive menu with many different proteins. The best bang for your buck are the sets. The Chanko sets have vegetables, meats, and seafood. The Shabu Shabu sets also contain meat and vegetables the the main difference is that the Chanko sets have ground chicken and pork on a stick that you cut and drop into the broth to make little meatballs. All sets come with rice and your choice of noodles. One of the things I love is they have over 15 broths you can choose from. Some include shio, ginger, pirikara (my personal favorite - spicy soy), yuzu, and curry. Another plus is that if you're sharing a pot with someone and they want a different type of broth, no problem, there are pots that have dividers so you can have two types of broth. You get to truly make it your own by also choosing your type of meat. They have different types of pork, beef, and plain old chicken. On my last visit, Gabe was our server and he was so friendly and polite. Service there is usually pretty good. No complaints. Overall, a great place for a warm and comforting meal. read more

I really enjoy coming to Ichiriki. Yes, I like the AYCE places too, but the ambiance at Ichiriki is much better. We don't have to get up and there are several delicious dessert selections that we have to leave room for after eating. It's nice that we take home our leftovers and order dessert. The warabi mochi with ice cream is really special here, as is the ice monster shave ice. I like the shabu shabu because it comes with a goma dipping sauce (ponzu as well, but I like the goma more). I add in the green onions and daikon to elevate the dipping experience. I got the tom yum broth with short rib this time and it was perfectly spicy with lemon grass flavor. I love the vegetable selection and it comes with rice and udon or ramen. I like udon and my kids like ramen, so we all left happy! read more

This spot is an OG Japanese hot pot place. This is actually the first place that I have ever tried hot pot and I love that it's still around and serving up yummy nabe! It's located across from Pearlridge. You can drive up the ramp to find this spot on the second floor. Ichiriki's ambiance really transports you to Japan. I love that they have tables where you take off your shoes and can sit on the floor. The chanko set is my go-to where you can choose a thinly sliced meat (pork belly, short rib, chicken etc) and it comes with all the veggie, tofu, and their speciality meatball that you build yourself. When you're almost done with your shabu shabu, my favorite thing to do is to order their zosui. They use your leftover broth and whatever you may have leftover in your soup to make a porridge. The broth was flavorful, and their set menu had a good bit of everything from the meat to vegetables. For us, the portion sizes were good for sharing. The server was very friendly and attentive. Japanese food is my number 1 go to, when someone asks where I want to eat. After my Japan travels, I am always open to trying Japanese restaurants that others rave about! Thus, imagine my excitement when our last-minute dinner plans led us to the Pearlridge location of Ichiriki. PARKING: Adequate amount of free parking on the 2nd level--up the ramp on the makai (ocean) side of the venue. SEATING/SPACE: Our party of seven plus a baby was quickly accommodated; the booth was comfy and provided enough space for our group. CLEANLINESS: The venue seemed well-kept; floors were not littered with chopstick/napkin trash. MENU: Easy to order, once you understand how the different offerings are laid out. I wish the protein portions were a bit larger--if you are used to AYCE shabu style meals, you must order extra sides of protein. I enjoyed the quality of the food and the variety of options for both protein and vegetables. CUSTOMER SERVICE: The restaurant was not very busy and, yet, the service we received was as if our server was too busy for our party. She seemed annoyed when we asked her and/or had to flag her down for more rice, or to put in more orders. We are a large party and we did mention that 3/4 of our party have never been to this establishment; thus, we were not sure as to portion size. Thus, we had a few who needed to put in additional orders for protein and more rice and more appetizers. Her consistent look of annoyance was disheartening--we felt bad for her, thinking maybe she was having a bad day. Ichiriki is great, hm, well they've always been really good and my family loves this place but the only reason I would give a 4-star is because of the cleanliness of the place. It feels a bit like management or ownership isn't paying attention to all the details, like for example our spoon still had food gunk on it and the dishes just didn't give off a very sanitary feel... that said, the food and service are usually good, and it's a kid friendly place. I always get the paitan broth with pork, and then definitely the zosui after! My fave being the zosui. The dessert is just a-ok too so not the most amazing. We did not know what to order or even how to order but Chasity, our server, was kind enough to tell us about the whole menu. We got the curry & ichiriki broths, soooo gooood! Both of us got the shabu shabu with pork belly, garlic shrimp for appetizers & also ordered a kids meal for our 18 month old. Everything was so delicious! My husband isn't a fan of vegetables.. but he cleaned his side of the pot LOL. I ate everything too & our toddler loved his food. Ugh, we just got home but I can't wait to go back again.. The perfect dinner spot to treat mom! We had our Mother's Day dinner at ichiriki (pearlridge location so we didn't have to deal with town parking), and it was seriously 10/10. Service was great, everyone was so kind & helpful! My mom really appreciated the server helping to spoon the pork into her broth. The server also explained the menu to us really well. We all got the happy hour special set, and it completely exceeded our expectations. The quality of meat was great, but also the assortment of vegetables! We left so full & took home leftovers. Tip: ask for a to go container & have a second meal the next day. I would recommend ordering sauces on the side if you opt for the chanko set (does not include sauces). I wish their menu was more thorough, because we did not know what was going on until it was explained to us lol. Decided to come here with my friends for a get together. It's located on the second floor above teddy's burger so park in the back area, by Shay's!! I got the kimchee spicy soup, which wasn't even spicy at all. It also came with extra kimchee which I wasn't sure if I should put in the soup but decided to just eat it on the side. It was also a preset type of thing so it came with a number of things. I think I got beef and something else for my meet. We all also got different soup bases so it was good to try the others but the kimchee one was the best. I wish it came with more meet because by the time we got the dipping sauce for the meat, I was already done eating it. It also comes with noodles, which is meant to soak up the soup for after but it was too much for me so I gave it away. Service was good, our waiter was nice and different ppl came around to fill our water. The place is very cute! I like the tables that are by the window. It looks like they're sitting on the floor but it's chairs. Very nice vibe, it's giving Japanese restaurant. The tables can be a bit small with all the burners and food that comes out but it's not a big deal. I also didn't get to order desert here so maybe next time! 10/10 would come back and recommend!! I came here on a Wednesday and was surprised to see they had a kids eat free paper on the table. All of my son's favorite foods too! Karaage, rice, edamame and French fries. I am torn because it's been a while since we have eaten here, and it has been one of my faves. I don't remember Ichiriki looking so run-down. Our server seemed overwhelmed with multiple tables, so I will give her that. We waited far too long for our meal, and we had to keep asking for things. Mid-meal, we still did not receive our noodles. We finally asked, and the reply was. "OH!" We ordered other things, only to be told we are out of them and no substitutions are allowed. We never received straws after asking twice. Our broth was to the bare minimum, but we waited even longer. And yes, we asked. We asked for more water and waited. After waiting and asking, we just gave up. Maybe other servers called in sick, or that is how they roll, but Aiea Ichiriki will never be on our list of places to dine. Our server, sister girl... The pirikara broth is tasty and very mildly spicy. Portions were okay, but has been getting smaller. The karaage chicken pieces are so small that some are just bits on batter. The service is probably the worst part. The waitress rarely came around to refill drinks. She often forgot to bring things and it would take forever for her to bring them to the table. Seems like she spent most of the time laughing with the "regulars" while everyone else is neglected. The propane on the stove went out and she never came around to check on us so we had to wait for another person at our table to switch burners. read more

The food was excellent, the broths were great. Loved the spicy ahi with nori wrap. Basically the Korean seaweed with super processed spicy ahi and you make your own temaki roll. The Wagyu wasn't as soft as I thought it would be. The cut was a bit thicker than expected maybe that's why it wasn't as soft. I suggest you dip in the broth for about 30 seconds so it stays tender. Other than that the food was good. Service still needs help and the interior needs a desperate renovation. It looked pretty dirty inside and the seat we were given had torn upholstery. $30 for the Wagyu special and it wasn't bad. read more

Haven't been to Ichiriki for a while and felt like eating hot pot so my friend & I decided to go for Happy Hour. I made a reservation for 8pm and surprisingly they were pretty crowded even at that time. We both got their melon soju drink that was strong but good. For pupus we got the cucumbers & calamari. The cucumbers were simple with salt, chili peppers, & sesame but tasted sooo good. I need to try making that at home. I ordered the happy hour nabe set & got a side of fish cake. And I got the pirikara broth. Everything was so tasty and hit the spot! After we were done eating, we talked about how good everything was especially because we hadn't been there for so long. Do you guys no longer help with making the zosui? that is our favorite part of the meal and our male server I believe named Eric just handed us the bowls and walked away/expected us to make it. Not sure what normal procedure is, but every single time we've been here our waiter/waitress would make it for us. We hadn't been here in a while and couldn't remember the steps so we asked another server who was willing to make it. I felt bad asking if she could make both since she wasn't even our waiter and so I attempted to make mine after she was done with the first one. As a follow up to Gi T's review, the server is in the wrong profession. It's one thing to mess up our order and not bring out our food until asked for, and it's another thing to be rude, sassy, and abrasive to us when we were trying to be patient and pleasant to him in communicating and resolving problems with our order that he caused. Our server negatively impacted the dinner for 14 adult customers; some will not return to Ichiriki. Because the size of our party, Ichiriki charged us an automatic 20 percent gratuity. I didn't dispute paying it because that's business policy and I support it to ensure that good service is rewarded. Obviously, in this case, poor service was richly rewarded. Ichiriki management, take heed if you don't want to lose your customers. read more

After returning home from my class yesterday, we had to rush over to the Pearlridge area just in time for Happy Hour...4-6pm. We decided to sample the Happy Hour Kobe Beef Chanko Set with the delicious mildly spicy Pirikana soup base, an assortment of fresh vegetable and meat additions, and udon or ramen...all for $29 per person. So onolicious! (As a bonus...we often take home the left over soup base.) With their friendly staff...fresh, tasty cuisine...and convenient location, Ichiriki will continue to be one of our family's favorite eateries for authentic Japanese hot pot meals! Monday February 10, 2025 first time, trying this location in the Westridge Shopping Center at 98-150 Kaonohi Street in Aiea. It opened at 11:00am and we went inside at 11:10am. There was like 4 people already inside. The hot pot on a chilly day sounded like a very good idea. We ordered Garlic Shrinp and Fried Calamari for appetizers before the main meal. The Pirikara broth is like a shoyu garlic type broth is what is smells like and tasted like. The service was fast and friendly. There is plenty of parking even though there is a lot of businesses at this shopping center. It was a good experience for this first time here. We will be back another time. read more

Pretty solid for what it is. The good: the nabe itself is great, the flavors are on-point, and you get a decent amount of food. The vibes are nice, I'm particularly a fan of the separate/covered booths. Lots of cool Japanese-style seating, too. The questionable: the price is a teensy bit high and the meat portions are okay but not great, leading me to slightly prefer other nabe places in the area. It's always great to come back to read previous reviews years later, especially when a five star review then is still a five star review 12 years later. The kid and I have not been here in years but not much has changed. We arrived after the lunch rush had ended so we were seated right away and opted for the Niku Nabe. I am a creature of habit so my broth was once again the Angry Goma - I think it's safe to say that I probably won't ever choose another broth. My kid enjoyed the Ichiriki broth very much but said she'll get the Angry Goma next time we come. Everything arrived right away as it wasn't too busy. I've been here on busy weekend nights so I know how loud it can get, but that wasn't the case that day. The food was delicious just as I remember, and went well with its value. We left feeling full and happy but not overstuffed (like what happens when we go to AYCE hot pot). We were looking for dinner around Ala Moana mall and saw a lot of hot pot/shabu options, but this one stood out because we don't typically see much nabe (very similar to shabu though!). I asked our server what was recommended in terms of broth and went with his personal favorite - the yuzu kosho. I was eyeing that one and am glad it was suggested because the flavor was spot-on! The yuzu aroma was there without being too overpowering. My fiancé went with the paitan ($4 surcharge) and he liked his broth as well. It went well with his kurobuta pork chanko set ($29.95). The vegetarian nabe ($27) was more than enough food for me. Not only does it come with an assortment of veggies, you also get a fat bowl of rice and a choice or udon or ramen. You can also getting dipping sauces (ponzu or goma) for $1 extra. The servers warn you up front when providing this option. I do wish it was already included in the price because the margins on these sauces must be insane. Genius for management, but annoying for the customer. Otherwise, service was nice and efficient.
