Got charged a full order of Mapo Tofu even though it's a side order size.
    Daryl M.

I wanted to order a Mapo Tofu curry and substitute the rice. The cashier woman told me they don't do substitutes. She charged me $8.12 for a side order size which usually costs $2.55. The cashier did not have good customer service skills and was unfriendly. I've worked years in food and beverage and would never over charge a customer like this.

This is my go to curry place to go. But I was a little disappointed that we couldn't eat in the restaurant area like the Kapolei one. So we had to do take out and eat at home but the food was still delicious as always. Definitely would recommend to get curry here. The cashier was nice and the food was made pretty quickly I believe it only took about 5-10 minutes.

Been going here for years ever since my husband took me here. I remember dining in, wait wasn't that long, service was 10/10, food was 10/10 & the prices were affordable for the amount of food they gave. & it was cash only before. Now they do accept credit cards but with a 3% surcharge (there's a sign). Unfortunately, during Covid, dine in was closed & it was takeout only. It is still takeout only but it didn't bother us cause the food still yummy! My husband always orders the same thing - spicy beef curry w/cheese. I used to order the gyoza curry but now I like the chicken cutlet w/ cheese.

I enjoy ordering pick up from curry house whenever I visit back home. I always get chicken katsu curry, mild. It is reasonably priced, delicious, and gives me a kanak attack every time. Parking can be hit/miss depending on the time of day. Unfortunately, it was take out only upon my visit.

We needed something quick and tasty and I spotted Curry House on the way to our next destination. They are located in a little strip mall across of Pearl Ridge and have a handful of parking stalls. We walked in and were bummed to find that this location is TAKE OUT ONLY, but we were already there and decided to just order. Inside looked pretty unkempt and more like a storage or closet of sorts. It didn't look like they'll be doing dine-in anytime soon. I ended up ordering the chicken cutlet with cheese which is a local favorite. Our order came out pretty quickly and the container was piping hot! We ended up eating our food in the car, but man it hit the spot. The chicken was hot and crunchy and the curry paired perfectly with it. My son enjoyed it as well. I like how the sauce is kept separately in the container so that the chicken stays crispy and you can just dip each bit in the sauce. I have not been to a Curry House in FOREVER, but this was a good reminder of how tasty it could be. Glad we stopped here for a quick bite!

Curry house is my go to spot when I want to eat curry, I usually get the chicken cutlet with cheese. Their curry is so flavorful but if you want spicy look elsewhere. I get the spicy and for me it's just a hint of spice. I like to throw the pickled daikon or whatever it is into the curry and just smoother the cutlet and rice with it. The food was so good that I did not even have the chance to take picture of my food. The restaurant is all takeout, they've never gone back to taking dine in but my food was so fresh that it was still hot when I got home. They were quick as well. They told me 10 minutes but my food was ready in 5. Overall a good place if you like Japanese curry.

We ordered take out and ate it at Pearlridge, since the hubby was craving Mr. Cow. This location is at the Pearl Kai Shopping Center facing the street. You can't miss it. We put in our orders and the food came out fast. I got my usual which is the oyster fry with a side of fried pumpkin with less rice. The hubby decided to try out their udon this time around. I believe it was the chicken with spinach. I have no complaints about the Curry House. I always order the same item and it's always on point. It was our first time ordering the udon and it had a nice firm chew to it. If you're in the mood for Japanese curry you can't go wrong with the Curry House.

    Chicken cutlet, forgot my spinach.

Soooooooooo, still no dine-in. Boo! Take out only. But, the now take card rather just cash only. That's a plus. Very friendly workers but not sure if they understand clearly. I order chicken cutlet with spinach. I usually check my order but we waiting over 20 min so we left. I got home, no spinach!!!!! Boo! They are still very very very busy so best bet, call in your order and best practice, check it! Also, new container. Wish I knew, I would've said no side stuff so it's not thrown in my plate and touching my rice. Boo.

    No table service.

This place also has a huge menu so there's something for everyone! They have a variety of curry plates, bentos, poke, and even noodle dishes. Our go to is definitely the chicken karaage curry plate! The chicken is always crispy, a bit sweet, and super juicy! It balances out the slightly spicy and salty curry. We also love that there's vegetables in the curry (carrots & potatoes). We love that the curry comes in a separate container so no soggy chicken! We've also tried their gyoza which is always crispy and has a lot of filling inside. Most recently, I tried their miso salmon bento and that was so flavorful! It came with toss salad, edamame, and miso soup! At around $14 per plate, I think that's a pretty good deal for the amount of food you get!

I know it's just rice but compared to other spots, their rice was awesome. They give you a choice between sushi rice, white rice and brown rice. Awesome poke, awesome rice. Overall I can't give 5 stars because as stated, I am not a fan of their curry but I still would give 4 stars. I'll give their curry a try again... maybe curry just doesn't go with loco moco for me. Their service is typical... it's a food court so can't really expect a lot. Food court of course will be full with customers during certain times and other times it'll be empty. They get the food out as fast as possible but again, can't expect a lot. They did get my food out quickly but I went in the afternoon like around 3 pm so pretty sure that was after the lunch rush. Give them a try.

The chicken katsu and ebi fry lunch special was good, the curry was pretty flavorful. It reminds me of golden curry I'd make at home. The katsu was crispy as expected. I liked the rice too, the perfect kind to soak up the curry and pair with the katsu. The Katsu Kushi was fun to eat as it had a good amount of variety. I enjoyed the mochi quite a lot, the beef was a bit tough to eat, and I would note that the soft shell crab was extremely fishy. Like INEDIBLE fishy. I don't know if they always have it like that or if it was just an off one. Either way it was NOT pleasant. Since this place is located in the mall, parking is very easy. We ordered asahi beers to drink, chicken katsu teishoku, and several kushi katsu (zucchini, shishito pepper, mushroom, and fishcake). Food was very tasty but I noticed it was a bit oily and fatty. Food felt heavy in my stomach at the end of the dinner. Serving sizes exceeded my expectation and my friend and I shared the chicken katsu teishoku. This came with some vegetables and miso soup. Their lettuce salad is unlimited/bottomless and what helped combat the oily food. Service was okay. I didn't like that they passed our table a few times without clearing dishes after seeing us struggle with managing everything on our table. Servers did their job. I recommend trying this place! The food is very tasty and portions are big.

That spot has since closed (now home to Shaka Ramen), so when I learned about the new locations, I knew exactly where I was having dinner on my last night on the island. The two waitresses at the Pearl City location were incredibly sweet and efficient. They took our orders quickly and constantly scanned the dining room to make sure every guest had what they needed; drink refills and anything else. The interior was well lit and adorned with Japanese style kitchen curtains and posters of their most-popular ramen. The light wood on the walls and comfortable seating offered a great place to enjoy their amazing food! I ordered the spicy, flavor-packed Tan Tan Ramen along with their signature fried rice. I couldn't resist the gyoza and was hungry enough to go for six pieces instead of the usual four that come with the combo. What sets the Tan Tan ramen apart is its signature broth: a rich, creamy, and spicy blend made with sesame paste and chili oil. It has a wonderful nutty depth that perfectly coats the thick noodles and pairs beautifully with the toppings. The ramen is highly customizable, so I added extra chashu pork and Ajitama, a soft-boiled egg. The thick, spicy, and savory broth delivered an outstanding flavor profile. If you like spicy ramen, I highly recommend the Tan Tan or try the Spicy Tonkotsu...! The restaurant was easy to find in the Pearl City Shops. While it's not huge, Daiichi Ramen now has multiple locations across Hawaiʻi (Pearl City, Kahala, Kailua, plus Kailua-Kona and Hilo on the Big Island), so you're almost guaranteed to find a seat. Enjoy!

I had the tonkatsu curry, and as a big curry fan, it's good. Tonkatsu wasn't too oily, meat was juicy, and the curry taste was taste-in. But the chicken katsu was one of the worst I've ever had on O'ahu. The chicken katsu was greasy and soaked in old oil that tasted rancid and oxidized, which made the panko a disappointingly saturated mess. The panko was way too browned, and neither flaky or freshly crunchy like katsu should truly be, and was a far cry from the photo in the menu. The poor, fatty chicken quality and the rubbery skin left on the chicken pieces just added to the gristly and chewy nature of the katsu. Charging customers these prices for this kind of subpar quality chicken is absolutely insulting, and we couldn't even finish the dish. It's such a disappointment to write this kind of review, but others need to know what they're getting when they order katsu at Gyotaku.

The staff is always friendly, attentive, and quick to refill or help with anything you need, which really makes the whole experience enjoyable. The self-serve veggie bar is our fave too since they've added fresh enoki mushrooms. For me, I load up on equal parts veggies & meats, so I don't feel too bad going hard on the AYCE haha! It feels like there's something for everyone on the Premium AYCE. Seafood, veggies, appetizers, meats, starches, then the best part is ending with Dave's Ice Cream dessert! Yummy :) We also recently learned they offer a 5% military discount, which is another thoughtful bonus. After trying other places, Rokaru continues to stand out for us with its combination of flavor, freshness, variety, service, and overall value. It's still the hot pot place we recommend first to anyone looking for a solid dinner option. It's become one of those places we keep coming back to because every visit is consistently great.
