I'm always on a hunt for a good okazuya. Based off of yelp reviews, I wanted to give this place a try. Customer service was really good. I ordered the fried noodles, pork chops, fried chicken, corn beef hash & spam. The fried noodles WERE SOOO GOOD! I honestly would just come back just for this. Sato's had the best noodles and fried chicken and it was always a treat to get some. And now, it continues with Hashi Okazuya. The flavor of the noodles and chicken...still there. Lunchtime in Waipahu, Oahu, Hawaii... Driving around Waipahu Festival Marketplace, I saw the sign for Hashi Okazuya and quickly looked at the Yelp reviews. There was none by Dan O., so I had to explore... The free parking was easy and much appreciated! The interior was clean and cozy - just right for takeout only. It's a cash only business, by the way... There was a young girl who was quiet. She didn't acknowledge with eye contact nor greet me. It was awkward. Later, another worker came out from the back to take my order... she was quick and efficient! I got a Hamburger Steak plate with noodles (instead of rice) - it comes with macaroni salad, three shrimp tempura, and three cone sushi (local style inari). At my aunty's house, my cousin and aunty liked the Mac salad a lot. They also enjoyed the Hamburger Steak, noodles, cone sushi, and shrimp tempura. I thought that the noodles had a bit too much liquid on them. The noodles and Hamburger were on the salty side. The Hamburger was tender and fell apart easily. The shrimp tempura was okay. Very local okazuya. The prices are reasonable and it's in a small shopping area in Waipahu. Plenty of parking. No lines at the end of the day! The cashier was so sweet and friendly. I appreciate that they didn't package the food up in plastic since it was a small snack. The sushi was much better than I expected! So for the price, it is 5 stars. I ordered from here when my daughter came with me to work one day. I didn't really try the place before they had Sato's so I don't really have anything to compare it to. I thought it was a pretty good deal. We got a good sized bento with a lot of delicious fixings for a good price. Most times in bentos there's an lot of things that I don't like. But just like any okazuya, just make sure that you order early. I think I placed my order pretty much as soon as they opened so they wouldn't run out. When I went to pick it up, it was nice because they have a big parking lot. I didn't have a hard time finding the place and when I entered they were quick to find and get my order. First time there couple days ago. Had Shrimp Temp, Cone Sushi, Chorizo, Corn Bf Hash, Fried Noodles. Everything was good. Shrp Temp batter was the spongy, soggy type, which I normally don't care for. This place gets pretty busy (the parking lot is chaotic by the marketplace) so patience is a virtue when coming here. The shop itself is also very cozy, maybe 2-5 people can fit inside at one time. When we got there (right after the lunch rush I suppose), only 1 bento was left, so we grabbed it. We also got a plate with hamburger steak and all noodles, no rice. The hamburger steak was drenched in gravy, with a good hearty serving of noodles. It served as 2 meals for me. It looks like the kids are running the front and the adults are cooking in the back. Not a bad thing, just noticing that the kids were not great at communicating what was available, so the adults had to step in. All in all, homestyle fried noodles for the win! read more

Without a doubt, my very favorite fried noodles anywhere. Here I am back on the mainland reviewing this place because I am still thinking about them. I only found out about Sato's a couple years before they closed for good, so I was only able to eat there a few times during my trips back home. I went a few days before ther closure and had no idea they were closing. It was so sad when they did close. Fast forward to Hashi Okazuya opening in the same spot with what they said was the same fried noodle recipe as Satos. Could it be? Well, for me, the noodles have been just as good as I remember. The noodles have just the right amount of seasoning so you can actually taste the fried noodles themselves. Other places often have way too much salt or too much sweetness that you don't taste the noodles. Also, no kamaboko - which I do not like, so I don't have to pick the little pieces out. I always get a fried chicken with my noodles which is delicious. Nice that it's boneless but still skin on. The hash is pretty good too. This us to be the old Sato's in Waipahu. I've been hearing so much about it and finally got to try it. The first couple times we stopped in for lunch, they were sold out of noodles and I was so bummed about it. We finally were able to get there a bit earlier (11am) and luckily they still had food available. Their hours of operation are Tues to Sat from 7am-1pm. I would suggest going early because they run out of food quickly. They have 14 different items on their okazuya menu and have plate lunches and bentos also available. They do not have too much of a variety but have a decent amount to choose from. Today I ordered a side of noodles, 1 piece fried chicken, and 1 piece of hash which was about $8. Pretty good price for the amount of food I had on my plate. The noodles were good. Loved that it was not too oily and had a good amount of flavor. I really like the fried noodles here and asked for extra green onion to enhance the flavor. The fried chicken is a deboned chicken thigh seasoned and fried. It was pretty good and tasty as well. The hash on the other hand was a bit bland and not to my liking. I would have given them a 4.5 rating. The next day I ordered a medium Pan of fried noodles for a luncheon. I called in my order and it was ready in 90 min. That was awesome! They give a great amount for $35 and everyone loved it. The girls who work there are very nice and welcoming. Good quick stop for an okazu run. Wish they had more options to choose from tho! Formerly located/named eatery, Sato's. Hashi Okazuya has all the same vibes and serves the majority of OG Sato's menu. My picks will always include the fried noodles, which is the reason for each spontaneous visit. I haven't been in at a time they ran out yet, but I do remember the wait being quite long if you caught them (Sato's) at a busy hour. With a mere two exceptions on Oahu, the old school okazuya is dead. By okazuyas, I'm talking usually Japanese immigrant family run, with direct link to Hawaii's plantation past, cooking dishes like okara, konbu maki, ginger marinated fried chicken, maki sushi with seasoned tuna and dried shrimp, kimpira gobo, mixed veg tempura. Food made by those who grew up cooking and eating the heritage. Put another way, just because you have grandma's recipe doesn't mean it will taste like grandma's food. Hashi Okazuya is a perfect example. Their claim to fame, fried saimin from Sato's (a 55 year old okazuya that closed in 2020). It's not the same. It is a "modern" take similar to Leeward Drive-In or Mililani Restaurant that younger generations seem to love. Gummy, half cooked noodles that taste like raw flour and ammonia seasoned with a dried saimin dashi pack and some soy sauce stir fried with luncheon meat, cabbage, and carrots then topped with green onion and ground charsiu. Note: The portions for fried saimin are huge. A large ($10) easily feeds two. Thankfully other okazuya items do mimic the past. Decent burger with some filler, onions and bound by egg to give it just the right amount of rubbery texture. Simple as it gets flour dusted, deep fried chicken seasoned with just salt. Probably my favorite spot to get fried noodles on the island, a small tiny shop tucked in the Waipahu festival market center it's located along the back wall of shops. While I used to go to Leeward Drive Inn for fried noodles while in waipahu, I'm sad to say the plate has got this smaller while the prices has gotten higher, so now hashi's is the spot for my fried noodles needs. Formerly Sato's Okazuya, the shop was sold and renamed Hashi's. They still got to keep the original recipe noodles, and for the price it's the best in the area. The plate is full and large and I can barely finish it, And that's just the medium lol. It can easily be split between two people And if you're looking to add something to those noodles they do have a wide array of meats and sides as they are an Okazuya. But I just go here for the fried noodles, The service is always fast and friendly and I never have to wait more than 10 minutes, highly recommended if you're craving fried noodles and you're in the area read more

Arrived on Sat, 9/24/2022 at 11 a.m. I observed the following: Sign on glass - Business hours Sat 7 am-1 pm. Handwritten sign Cash only Okazu left sitting in glass case: one ume rice ball, 4 pieces of shrimp tempura, 2 slices of spam, 2 pieces of hamburger. Poor customer service: Worker, young girl in the front didn't hear me enter and continued to rummage through something by audio, for a few minutes, walked in the back, upon exiting through the curtain, finally saw me, then greeted, "Hi!" I informed the worker, "Hi! I'd like to order okazu. She responded, "These are the only ones left." Then I asked her, "Do you have any bentos A, B, C or D?" She said, "No, we're all out for today." This translates into out of rice, cone sushi, fried noodles, fried chicken, shoyu hot dog, teri beef, hamburger steak, pork chop, bbq beef, garlic shrimp, chow fun, pork chop, chorizo, corn beef hash at 11 a.m. No offer of let me check, and/or we can make the following okazu items, it will take this many number of minutes, if you're willing to wait. That's a bad sign if the cook/cooks chooses not to cook anymore food for customers or patrons during posted business hours. I'd rather see a sign, "Sold out for the day. We're closed." or list your business hours Mon - Sat 7 a.m. till sold out. No wonder all the locals are flocking to the Waipahu Festival Marketplace across in the same parking lot. Noodles about the same and quantity is generous for the portions Ordered a plate lunch with the fried chicken. Fried chicken (mochiko style) is a boneless skin on thigh 2 nice pieces for the plate lunch. Well seasoned and fried don't think crispy KFC type fried chicken. Shared a plate with my mom for lunch and ended up having leftover noodles for dinner and the next day. Unless you're a heavy eater I like to pick and eat mixed lol. Overall very fair prices and was happy they were still open at lunch time as others wouldve closed. Fried saimin might be on the more dried side. I heard about their fried noodles on an instagram video. Mentioned they were pretty amazing. I am a fan of fried noodles, my favorite being the punahou carnival. So we drove out to Hashi on a Saturday morning at 9 am. Got there and found the parking lot packed! Only three people in line when I got in. There isn't a lot of room in there so it's hard to social distance. I order a small fried noodle, shoyu hot dog, spam, cone sushi, 2 sides of Mac salad and a garlic plate, which also came with a side of Mac salad. Total came out to $34. Ok a little much but really excited to get into the noodles. Found a park and ate our brunch. Went through all the items in the bag and found my two sides of Mac salad were missing. The kids loved the spam and shoyu hot dogs. I wasn't a fan of the cone sushi, overly sweet with too much sauce on jt. My husband thought it was good. The garlic shrimp wasn't north shore good but there was a lot of garlic and the Mac salad added the right amount of salt for me. My husband said the shrimp had a metallic taste to it and mentioned maybe they were using the ajinomoto USA version not the Japanese version. Finally the review of the fried noodles. Very disappointed! There wasn't much flavor to it as I avoided all the red stuff on it. My husband however took his bite with most of those red pieces and he said it was so fishy. His second bite (without any red stuff) was so flavorless we actually ended up throwing away half of the noodles. I am still in search from anything that comes close to the carnival noodles. Service-I was in line and when the two other people ordered I waited for the young girl behind the counter to ask me for my order. She didn't and ended up taking the first guys order for a drink. OK... finally the other woman came out and asked if I wanted to order. Not sure if people go in clueless but there are only 10 items and I was there for at least 5 min so yeh was ready within the first minute of being there. Finally got to try Hashi Okazuya today. Been wanting to try it out since I used to really like Satos. I got the $10.00 fried noodles and a piece of fried chicken. The fried chicken was a little on the salty side, I liked that it was boneless. The noodles were a disappointment. I've been reading that it's like Satos, but it wasn't today. It looked the same, with the green onions, luncheon meat, bits of char siu and Kamaboko, but it didn't taste the same. The noodles were over cooked, in the mushy side. There was hardly any taste too. The saltiness is the chicken helped to flavor the noodles. The lady who took my order was nice and it was ready when I got there. Parking is available right in front of their door. Had a errand to do in the Waipahu area so decided to check out this Okazuya place my sister told me about . It's the old lactation where another Okazuya place called Sato's. I had their shrimp tempura and cone sushi and fried noodles. Their supposed to be famous for their fried noodles it was good but on a little wet side. The cone sushi was good and their shrimp tempura was not oily and a good size of shrimp inside. Their located inside the parking lot where Big Way super market was also across the street from the historical Arakawa's store. Wow I guess I'm showing my age that's pretty long ago. But at least there's another option for Okazuya place to eat. These places are slowly going out of business because it's hard work and the next generation normally don't want to take over. read more
