I wouldn't wish this "food" on my worst enemy. I've tasted hospital meals with more flavor. Every bite was bland, lifeless, and so dull it actually made me angry. It's like the chef actively avoided seasoning out of spite. I kept waiting for something--salt, pepper, a hint of flavor, a pulse--anything. Instead, I got the culinary equivalent of wet cardboard. But I was going to introduce some friends to some yummy Cajun food, so I got a chicken stuffed with crawfish and shrimp, and there was zero crawfish and shrimp in it. So disappointing! I stopped in from outta town, (12-8-22) was specifically wanting to try their hog cracklins. IT WAS THE BEST EVER!! I've bought cracklins from Don's in Scott LA for years. But haven't been too happy with the taste the last few times. But this place?! WOW! Great tasting and fresh!! I will be buying more! I love that its not too spicy or too hard to chew. And not too salty! I tried a few other cooked foods and it was all very good too! I had never even heard of this place til a few weeks ago but I WILL NEVER FORGET IT! The location on the map was wrong and we drove past it at first. So glad we saw it in the way to the freeway because it is worth the stop. Boudin was amazing and the crawfish pie was good too. I was not pleased with my shrimp being fried almost to a crisp. The seasoning was good but I was not happy. When I told the young man, he said well what's wrong with it ? I said do you see how hard they are fried? He said yeah it looks like friend shrimp. Ok. We were traveling and stopped for lunch recently in June 2023. We ordered boudin balls, Delicious and meaty. The Red Beans with rice bowl was my favorite; the beans had little pieces of sausage, with a side of baked potato casserole was really, really good. The cracklins were really good too. I wanted to get some spicy ones but didn't see any. The frozen section had alligator, and deer which was surprising to me. The Sweet tea was the perfect drink to order. This is a go to spot on the west side of Baton Rouge. Everything is just like mama makes it...cooked with love.

Let me start by saying it's better than Cou-yons cajun bbq. I had the half chicken Wednesday special and one of the ribeye wraps. First the food had good flavor but my half chicken was missing its leg and thigh and the ribeye wrap was itty bitty. Wrap wasn't worth $3.00 for such a small portion, maybe 2" long. They also had lots of frozen items to pick up for later. Looked good. Drinks were either from a serve yourself fountain machine or bottled drinks. Nice local flavor, nothing fancy. Fast! Good home cooking. The sides were all very sweet to me, even the green beans, like they added sugar. I'm not a fan of that myself. The stuffed pork chop was okay, the bacon wrapped ribeye with jalapeno and cream cheese was certainly the best thing we tried. The red beans and rice were pretty good. My first clue was when the Office Manager replaced the "children's plates" in the Kitchen with something more substantial. The Thursday Lunch from Bergeron's was probably the highlight of the Week. Fantastic! When you walk in to the restaurant do not expect to be seated, walk up to the counter to your left and the menu is on the wall. It's quite extensive with a variety of yummy options. The two girls at the front were just as nice as they could be. Azalea offered me a taste of the crawfish étouffée before purchase and came out to check on us and get to know us while we were eating. One of the cooks also came out to chat. So friendly! 10% off for carrying your gun which we definitely took advantage of. I had the crawfish étouffée which came with a little salad topped with a creamy Italian dressing, potato salad and a roll for $9.49. They package it in a styrofoam to go container. First time at Bergeron's, won't be the last. Went in for lunch and place was very busy. Staff was very friendly and helpful, very patient while we decided. We both got the Fried Fish plate it came with green salad, potato salad, roll and french fries. The portions were large and we ended up bringing half of it home. Everything was well seasoned, hot and delicious! Only critique is potato salad and fries are redundant. I don't think we were offered an alternative side. The place well very clean and well organized. Have counter to order smoked meats and several other items. They also sell frozen options, as well as seasonings and specialty items. Good food. Good atmosphere. I had the rib plate lunch it was the Wednesday special. It was ok. I've had top rate bbq. And I've had cut rate bbq. This was in the middle. Bbq is about preference and what I should have ordered was a burger. That all being said. They were good but very dry. And not a single sauce bottle in sight. The flavor was smoked and had some spice to it. The beans the baked beans were delicious and so was the potato salad. Over all good experience. But next time I'm ordering a burger and I'll update. Crawfish hand pies were good as well BUT I gotta give it up to those smoked chicken wings! Smoke'em if you got'em and they do indeed! Oh if you like chicharrones AKA pork rinds...the super crunchy Cajun cracklins at Bergeron's are just like crack....somewhat addicting and sold by weight in a paper bag..but go easy biting into them...had to make sure all my "chiclets" we in tact yikes! I've never had a bad meal here and I've been here quite a few times. The barbecue here is good and the hamburgers are fresh cooked to order. The French fry's are frozen but that's the way it is at most places. The Hot sausage Poboy's are fantastic but truthfully I like everything that I'm tasted. The lunch specials are usually boxed up hot and ready to go. I hardly ever get a lunch special because the other stuff is so tempting. I love the fried seafood here. All soft drinks are fixed in to go cups and if your dining in you can refill them yourself in the dining area. You can also get specialty meats and such in the the room. I love the Cajun andouille sausage they have sometimes I cook it as is and other times I break it down in my foodprocesser and add ground pork and cayenne pepper and chopped green onions and mix then remove & shape into patties and it makes a damn good hot sausage party style poboy. So if you're anywhere around go try this place out, eat lunch and then go to the other side and grab stuff for supper. You'll like the food here. read more

I really like their system. They have a couple lunch specials that are handed to you about 2 minutes after you walk in the door -- very convenient. Since I don't like potato salad, they made a special one for me (and another for the guy behind me) with fries instead. I had their ribs. Clearly, they had been cooking very slowly as even the bones were falling off the bone; their sauce was good and mild. Everyone at the table was happy.
