I love this place so much!! Located in the countryside of Chesapeake, this small family owned business offers a variety of homemade goods. I first came here years ago with my family after hearing about how great their apple pies were. After our first visit, we continue to go back often. Upon entering I'm greeted with a warm welcome from Mr. Bergey and the rest of the staff. Even when I'm here without my parents, they ask how they're doing. Everyone here is just so friendly! They are mostly known for their ice cream and pies. Both are homemade and the flavors will change seasonally. Their ice cream is inexpensive and so creamy!! It is one of my top places to grab ice cream. Their pies are also delicious, but my favorite is their Apple Dumpling. They're only available for a short time during the fall/winter. They also sell sandwiches, sweets, milk, etc. You really won't be disappointed no matter what you try! They also sell fresh produce and plants grown from either their garden or somewhere locally. One of my favorite things about this place is the petting zoo. Follow around back down the gravel road. You will reach a barn and several corals with various animals you can play with. They have goats, sheep, pigs, cows, etc. There are vending machines scattered around that sell goat feed for 25 cents. If you come in the spring, you'll usually see newborn animals, such as goats and piglets. The petting zoo is free but it is preferred to make a donation which contributes to the maintenance of it. Also, if you're looking for some fun things to do, make sure to check their fliers and events. They have seasonal activities (pumpkin patch, corn maze, sunflower picking, etc). I am always recommending this place to people! It's a really fun experience coming here. Even the drive out there is very pretty. Support this local business! read more

Bergey's is such a great example of why simple is SO much better. No frills are necessary here, that's for sure. It's home cooking at its finest and we should all be so lucky they share it with us! Do yourself a favor and pick up a chicken pot pie - you'll thank me for it! Don't forget to pick up one of their fresh made desserts while you're at it. If you're looking for a good breakfast option, grab yourself some cinnamon buns... they're absolutely DELISH!!! The hubs and I don't have kids, but we seem to drive by whenever one of their events (corn maze, Easter egg hunt, etc) is going on. If you're looking for food and treats made with organic ingredients, come here! The store offers homemade ice cream, pies, milk, free range eggs and other things. You can be sure that it came from their own labor. Their ice cream is one the best I've had because of the creamy texture and churned taste. They offer seasonal flavors along with your standard vanilla flavor. They also offer customizable deli sandwiches and baked goods as well. Pretty good way to support local business. On top of selling food, this place is also a petting farm with goats, mini horses, chickens etc. It's a great place to bring your kids to have some clean fun. You are free to walk around the back and explore their farm and animals and just enjoy the countryside. It is a beautiful sight on a sunny day back there. Love this place! Outside with the farm and the maze, etc. And inside, although small (doesn't everything feel smaller though now due to COVID??), the food is bigger than life. I LOVE their chicken pot pie with the fresh loaf of bread. I will admit I haven't been back in over a year, but considering I'm still reviewing it now shows how much of an impact it has made on me. Fresh foods, yummy ice cream, good sammies and friendly family makes this place amazing! A little out of the way, but worth a drive. I'll be back in the spring. I miss the field trips my classes have made in the past so I had a good excuse to go and buy food. Drive out there everyone! You won't regret it! read more

Petting Zoo, fresh fruits and veggies, local honey, some of the best pies you'll ever have made by the the "ladies in the back," who know EXACTLY how to make a pie...and bread...and cinnamon rolls...and just about anything else that suits your fancy. Absolutely the best sandwiches in town. Put your order in at the counter, go grab a cold drink out of the reach-in reefer, have a seat indoors or out and they bring your food to you. Pay after you finish eating. Mr. Bergey is the main ice cream maker, so ensure you grab a scoop or two of the gelato-style rich and creamy ice cream in a cone or a cup before you leave. Go for the sprinkles on top, too. For those that didn't know, Mrs. (Rose) Bergey suddenly passed away a couple of months ago. She was a beautiful soul and will be deeply missed. Had a great time here for our first visit. We have goats and chickens at our house so we enjoy farm animals! First let me state that the sandwiches are fantastic. The bread alone is worth it. We got ice cream after which was homemade and delicious. It's a little messy because it melts quick, but it's so good you may eat fast enough! We ended up getting a chicken pot pie and a key lime pit to take home for dinner. Those alone were worth the trip there! I'd definitely go back to just buy a pie. My only real complaint is that people let their kids go explore with out supervision, and they aren't exactly respectful of the animals. Will definitely go again. read more

This place is awesome!! It is a wonderful place to bring your family and friends. You can pet goats, ponies, piglets, and baby kittens. You can even have your little one ride on a pony. There is also a place to eat inside so you can have a nice meal and then play with the animals. There's lots of parking. I love all things farmhouse. Milk shakes, ice cream, bread, fudge, jam is all homemade. I tried the pumpkin milk shake because my boyfriend kept insisting I try it and it's in the season. I'm more a chocoholic but fine. I'll try it. I really wanted to try their chocolate since it's homemade but when I asked one of the staff if I was able to try it, she said they were only sampling the vanilla flavor. Like...how am I supposed to narrow down which one I really like to entice me to come back and order my favorite? I planned on coming back but that was disappointing. I did have the pumpkin milkshake but there wasn't any "Wow" factor for me. I'm all about customer service and this place really had none. No smile, no greeting. You are just another customer that strolls through the area to buy something. The only person I thought was welcoming was the owner. His smile was warm and welcoming. I like the little small town country feel. It reminds me of where I used to live when i was in nj. Nestled in a little. Cottage home. You'll find this place. Not a lot of people make commutes out here like I do. But it's well worth it. I used to live 10 min down the road and I never knew this place existed. This is the best area to get your local produce that is in season. You can go strawberry picking down the road. I went to pick up some local Virginia milk, local eggs and grab a bite to eat. They sell sandwiches of all kinds. All the cheese and deli meats are fresh and from small businesses nearby or in our area. Freshly homemade bread, really soft and airy.. To my liking. I purchased a BLT to go with my dill bread. I loved every bite of it and their homemade bread delivers it.. Soft with a hint of dill and a little sweetness that it adds. It's just a simple bacon, lettuce, tomato and mayo. Normally I don't eat a lot of breads due to minor gluten intolerance. Although the gluten has never stopped me ...for some reason, It's the homemade breads or organic ones that never make my tummy ache. I'd prefer this place over subway anyday. I got the strawberry ice cream.. Since the strawberries are what's in season. It's sweet and creamy. My son enjoyed it and was bouncing around. I'm happy that I live close by this area to get me some local mixed eggs. They say mixed eggs because they get their eggs down the road from Ken's and from what the clerk told me it's a mixture from her sisters yard and neighbors farm along with ken's eggs all in one carton. I had to grab their homemade strawberry pie and homemade cream to compliment the strawberry pie. I also grabbed their homemade pecan pie. Can't wait to try them! This is now our go to ice cream spot for our area. It's a country store that delivers fresh foods, a friendly place.. You'd know where your food is coming from. The fresh pies are always tempting, but you gotta be quick because the seasonal fare runs out before you're ready to see it go. The best is the ice cream, which is slap-your-mama good. Blue Bell's only worthy competitor. Any flavor; anytime. I'll happily judge that contest. Come on out any given weekend, and if the weather's nice, you'll see tons of people enjoying the fresh air (with occassional farm smell), possibly with some goats in the front area. If the weather's bad, you'll catch them all huddled inside, crammed in line for either a milkshake or cone. Never a bad idea for Bergey's. This is a cute little farm with a basketball hoop people can play in. It's similar to hunt club, they have a hay ride, corn maze, & farm animals you can check out. All their animals has names which is really cute. Since it is fall almost winter all their animals weren't there but we were able to see goats, horses, donkeys, pigs, and some chicken. They also have an ice cream store called Bergey's dairy, and they sell really good ice cream. They let you try the flavors before you buy them. I was able to get the pumpkin and black raspberry. Apparently their flavors are usually according to what season it is and what's growing. Can't wait to come back for their blueberry season. This place is a wee away from everything but getting here is definitely a beautiful scenic route if you ever want to get away and enjoy the ride. read more

Great place! Had lunch here and the sandwich was delicious and reasonably priced. You can get a half sandwich or a whole sandwich. The ice cream is absolutely delicious. One scoop in a cup or cone for $1.99. After eating, it's nice to stroll around and take a look at the animals around back. They have cows, pigs, sheep and goats. First off, this place is deep into Chesapeake where all the farms are but the drive is worth it. The outside looks like a house with a beautiful porch. Once you walk in, there's a lot of gifts and goodies. To the left is the cashier and some pastries and the ice cream section. To the back are fridges filled with beverages and pies. You can also order food I believe. The whole ambience was very relaxing and welcoming. It felt like a home. The workers were kind and attentive. I got strawberry cheesecake ice cream on a cone. It was SOO GOOD. It was tart and you could immediately taste the fresh strawberries. My friend got butter pecan and it was to die for. The ice cream is fairly cheap: $1.99 for one scoop and $2.99 for two scoops. 50 cents for toppings I believe. I also got a vanilla cupcake with buttercream and sprinkles. It was very moist and delicious. It was $2.49 or something around that. There is table seating in the side and also on the porch. There is extra table seating outside and a swing. There is an abundance of seating which was good. There were many animals that you could see and even pet or feed. I fed goats for only 25 cents for the food. They're on a leash so it wasn't too scary. There were little black piggies that you could adopt for $200. There were also lots of chickens and cows. Overall, it was a very cool experience with delicious and fairly priced food. I'd highly recommend them. read more

Just had a perfect lunch with the lady on this beautiful sunny day. When asked what I would like to order, I told them to surprise me. The sandwich was light, fresh and delicious! They offered up a turkey, bacon, sandwich with fresh tomatoes, lettuce, sweet pickle and cheddar cheese served on a dill and onion bread.
