I stopped into Bergey's Breadbasket after spending a few hours at Bergey's Barnyard (which is an awesome spot if you have kids or love animals!). Bergey's Breadbasket is so cute! The kind of wholesome, local place that makes you want to linger. The atmosphere is charming and cozy, with a welcoming staff who clearly care about their food and community. The highlight for us was definitely the ice cream. I tried the Cookies and Cream, and it was honestly one of the best I've had, and Im not a big cookies and cream girl. It was super creamy with generous chunks of cookie throughout. You can really taste the difference compared to more commercial spots. I love that their menu is full of homemade, farm-fresh options! Besides their ice cream, they have a wide selection of sandwiches made on their own bread, homemade soups, hand pies, and a tantalizing bakery case with things like donuts, muffins, cookies, and cinnamon rolls. If you're hungry for lunch, their custom sandwiches let you pick your bread, meat, and cheese .... everything tastes fresh and you can't go wrong with any combo. The bakery itself is adorable and smells amazing from the moment you step inside. We picked up a few baked goods to take home, and everything was deliciou. Even the simple chocolate chip cookie had that perfect homemade flavor. I can't recommend Bergey's Breadbasket enough, especially after enjoying the Barnyard next door. It's a great spot to relax with family or friends, indulge in some truly delicious treats, and support a fantastic local business. A friend of mine bought us a Strawberry pie from Bergey's for lunch today. They rant and raved about how great your strawberry pie is sooooo great. After eating it today I found that it wasn't much better than a frozen one from the grocery store with the exception that the grocery store one has a better crust. Your crust was like cardboard, very tough, so tough that I had to cut it with a knife. Shame on you! Pie crust should be light and flaky. Went here as we were in the area visiting a local business. I'm a big fan of the food here b/c it's all super delicious. I like the fact that they keep specials as it mixes up what's new. Most, if not all, of the food available is pretty unique or from a local (state) vendor. I'm a big fan of the feel and appreciate the environment. The food quality has yet to ever disappoint and the ice cream makes the beautiful dessert to complete the experience. This place is so cute! This seems like irregular country store with all the fixings, but they also have a petting zoo! They have goats, bunnies, ponies, donkeys, bunnies, chickens, and many many more. We got their little paradise custard ice cream, which I didn't realize had coconut. Oh man, that was so good! There is plenty of parking. We came on a Monday afternoon. They have parking in front of the building that has food but also overflow parking for when it's busier. There is a little hut to pay to see the animals. The kids loved being able to go into the gates to hold or pet the various animals. The signs helped to explain things as well. Had the most amazing time here last Saturday. I went to breakfast earlier in the day and a couple was talking about how amazing bergey's barnyard was so, naturally, we had to come too. We parked in the main lot as there were still parking spaces available, but saw they also had an overflow lot with a few cars in it. We headed straight to the breadbasket for lunch. I got the ham and apple club and my husband got the roast beef sandwich and we shared an order of the black pepper pasta salad. There was a line for ice cream and a separate line and counter for the deli sandwiches. I appreciated that because there were a ton of people in line for ice cream so it was nice not having to wait behind all of them. My ham and apple club sandwich was amazing btw. It had an onion bacon jam that was so delicious and really just brought the sandwich together. Hubby enjoyed his meal as well. We also bought some dry pasta and other things from the shop. We then headed to the barnyard! It was $7 for each of us so $14 total, which I thought was reasonable. There were so many animals and you could go in each of their pens and play with them. We played with baby kitties, goats, and pigs. They also had chickens, cows, rabbits, and ponies. They also had a handwashing station and some bathrooms, if needed. Everyone was so friendly too. I could see myself coming back here and spending hours and hours. We then finished our trip with ice cream. I got the ice cream for breakfast, which was a maple ice cream with pieces of bacon and waffle cone. I got one scoop in a cup and hubby got a vanilla milkshake. Everything was amazing. Admission was $7 per person. The majority of the animals were goats, and we didn't see any alpacas during our visit. There were cows, pigs, kittens, bunnies, sheep, and chickens, which were nice to see. However, the tractor toys for the kids were very run down, there were no tractor rides available, and the sand area could have used more interactive toys. We drove 50 minutes to get here, and while it was a decent outing, it's not a place we're likely to return to anytime soon. read more

$4 for the petting zoo (baby piglets!!) was such a steal! There was so much to do and see, and I was so glad we went on a day where it was somewhat open and didn't have a ton of people/kids. I sat in the piglet sty and I could've stayed there for hours, except kids kept coming in and the piglets didn't wanna be on the kids' laps (they wanted a grown, independent woman's lap to take a nap on). It was a pure dream, and I loved every single minute of it. Highly recommend going for kids of all ages who love barnyard animals. Went there after work to grab some lunch, I had the sandwich of the day called the big pig. It has very juicy pulled pork , onions, bbq sauce, bacon and a little bit of bacon dressing . We came here for the barnyard portion. We haven't eaten here yet. It was $4 pp for a wristband to do all the activities and stay as long as you like during the week. It's $5pp on the weekend. If you'd like to feed the goats you can buy a cup of feed for $3 at the ticket booth or bring quarters and get some from the vending machines nearby. I was advised you get more for your money getting the cup. So, I bought 1 cup and split it into 3 cups for my 3 kids. The alpacas and sheep eat different food. I only saw the vending machine option for food for them. We loved that you could help yourself and get in the pens with the animals. They have multiple signs with instructions. Neat place to visit, Bergey's literally has everything a kid at heart would love - delicious fresh made to order sandwiches, fresh baked pies, breads, homemade ice cream, petting zoo... My friend and I had a wonderful time having our coffee and cinnamon raisin roll and cream cheese Danish. We sat on rocking chairs on the front porch just watching families pet goats. There's even goat feed machine where you can get goat gibbles to reward the goats for being up front and friendly. I heard there are other animals to pet in the back. When you walk inside there's a long but but quickly moving line. The place is well lit, with freezer displays for quiches, pies, etc. I would give Bergey's 5 stars if only they'd (please) expand their coffee concoction selections (not just milk, maybe some syrups) and if on weekends they can anticipate the demand for their pies - they ran out of cherry pie and Chocolate chip pie even at 11:30am! Everything about Bergey's Barnyard is a fantastic experience. Their ice cream and sandwiches are delicious and worth the 30 minute drive.

We've been coming here off and on for years, only now I have grandchildren! We first enjoyed an afternoon in the barnyard visiting all the goats, pigs, chickens, bunnies, cows etc. About 5 mins before we arrived in the barn a baby goat had just been born. And within about 10 mins mom had him all cleaned up; and he was off and running! It was so much fun to pet all the animals and they are very well cared for. Then it was playtime in the sandpit on the excavator and then tractor time on the toy John Deere's. He had a blast and I loved seeing him having a good time. After playtime we went into the restaurant and enjoyed a giant chocolate cupcake and a bowl of ice cream. They also had a wide variety of delightful takeaways like syrups, mixes etc. A great way to spend a lazy day! Thanks to the staff who were very polite and welcoming. Dropped by the other day to pick up some strawberry pies. There wasn't anyone else there but they did have signs up about social distancing and making sure people come out prior to going inside the bakery. The staff were all so friendly. The kiddos came in with me excited to pick out their fresh ice cream. It was delicious and you can tell it was fresh. Outside there was some goats too so we ent to visit them and the kids paid a quarter to feed them. When we got home we opened the strawberry pie for dessert (be sure to grab the fresh whipped cream too) it was absolutely delicious!!! Everything about it was so good. The crust was crisp and chewy and held its shape was wasn't soggy. The strawberries were fresh and sweet. The whipped cream was fresh and fluffy. The whole family loved it. Let me start off by saying i've lived in this area my whole life. After being in CA for a few years and moving back i thought why not take a trip back here? It was free today due to the weather and most of the animals were inside. Normally tickets are $4 a person not bad at all! They also have cups of food you can buy to feed the animals! Wow, it was DELICIOUS! My sister and I hesitantly ordered the chicken salad sandwich & chips. Don't fall off the bench like I almost did, but a whole sandwich looks like a half and it's pricey for what you get. After our first bite, we looked at each simultaneously and said, wow, this good or either we're hungry. The bread, oh my weakness was so good! Ok, these sandwiches look incredibly simple but they are so much more than that! I tried the turkey bacon club and the flavor was absolutely wonderful. The fresh bread is so soft, with a hint of sweetness. The tomatoes were perfect. The bacon had just the right amount of crisp. The cheese was plentiful. I'm honestly not sure I've ever had such a perfectly crafted sandwich before: just the right amount of everything melting in your mouth in flawless delight. We also tried the mint chocolate chip and pumpkin ice creams. Both so creamy and delicious. Really great, attentive staff, and the price point is incredibly reasonable for both quantity and quality, and it is absolutely worth a drive out to Mount Pleasant. Bergey's has been on my list for years. I've driven past it a few times when traveling between my hometown (Pungo area) and Chesapeake where a good friend lives when we have girl's days on weekends. I knew it was a farm and I knew they had shakes and ice cream. That's about it. Yesterday, it was so hot, but I was driving around exploring local farmer's markets and decided it would be the day to see what Bergey's was all about. I didn't realize it's also an active farm where they allow you to roam around and interact with the animals. I saw baby pigs and petted them, so cute wagging their little tails! I saw bunnies and the Mayor of Bunny Town. I held a baby bunny. I petted baby goats. I also saw and petted a donkey for the first time and got up close and personal with a cow. The inside of the small shop they have has sandwiches (about 4-5 options like BBQ, ham, chicken salad) and about 8 ice cream flavors. You can get them by the scoop in a bowl or cone, a milkshake, or a sundae. They also have some milk for sale from Homestead Creamery as well as some pot pies that looked yummy, honey, and various other small snacks. I have to admit - I was least impressed with the shop and ice cream choices - no really different ice cream flavors the day I was there (think maple, vanilla, chocolate etc.) and not a huge selection of food items that I felt were made in-house or exclusive to Bergey's. Ahh, our visit to Bergey's was so much fun!! I brought my little ones here for a play date with my friend and her kids- it is a perfect place for these kinds of times with friends. Off the top of my head I remember seeing goats, pigs, rabbits, chickens, turkeys, cows, and sheep! There are even more animals, all in their homes around the farm, that you can just freely explore and enjoy with the kids. My sons absolutely loved holding the baby bunnies!! There's also a sandbox with toy trucks in the cows area, which is a fun pit stop for them to play at. A bathroom is located just near the beginning of the farm/barn area and it was very clean (I expected a lot worse considering, you know, farm). Inside the store you'll find the most delicious breads and sweets, too! I got to try their biscuits and chicken salad, both were seriously to die for!! I can't wait to go back and try the ice cream. It all is reasonably priced (1.50$ish organic coffee?!?) and the animal area is by donation. I just love it!! read more
