I called yesterday saying my heater was not heating. The phone rep took my info and told me to expect a call back. Today I had not heard back so I called in again. I was asked for my info again and was told that someone will contact me "as soon as someone was available". I asked how long I should expect to wait for that to happen (a day? a week?) "I do not have that information" was the response. "how long does it usually take for a callback?" "I do not have that information". "Do people regularly have to wait for over a day for a response?" "I do not have that information". I understand folks get busy and that it may require some patience to wait for a call back when that happens. Being unable to provide an estimate for that wait time however is bad customer service and does not speak well for the business as a whole. There should be some ability to at least provide an estimate for a response even if qualified. The fact that this business will not give one and is terse when asked says this is not someone I would want to do business with. Their capabilities may be great but if their customer service and communication is this poor Ill take my business elsewhere. read more

My 48-year-old furnace broke after another company cleaned it and didn't know how to fix it. Berg's was able to come out and fix it within 10 minutes for a very reasonable price. Im so thankful Berg's was able to resurrect it for another few years! The only negative was that they forgot my appointment and had no record of it. Really about as good as it gets for the price. After hiring a heating contractor and waiting over a month for him to start the work, he came in and said "I can't do the job because of the space limitations" on the DAY HE WAS SUPPOSED TO START. So I took my friends recommendation and called Duane. He came out immediately and was so incredibly knowledgeable and kind that I couldn't wait to start. He and his grandson installed central heating in our old home and it took him about 3 days to complete the job. He also ripped out our old crappy wall heaters and patched the holes. We've also got a funky house with a funky attic and he and his grandson did not complain once while doing the whole install. Super friendly and knowledgeable and could not recommend more. read more

We just brought home our new born son and of course the heater stopped working. This was during a cold snap so everyone was busy plus not many of the newer technicians work on old systems. When I initially called Duane he said he was booked 3 days out but when I told him where I lived he said he could drop by really quick. Duane works with his grandson and it ended up being a quick fix. I would recommend them for any work but especially older models. Wonderful people. Left my contact info with their dispatch/intake person, told them I had a bit of an urgent need as my heater suddenly stopped working. They called back the same day and were willing to come by the next day (at this point I had called the first 3 pages of Yelp for HVAC in the Bay Area with no one available). Promptly arrived the next day, fixed my issue in under 5 minutes which was a small mechanical piece in the furnace that was loose and refused to charge me for it. Berg Heating came to the rescue with a super fast, efficient fix for our old gravity fed furnace. PG&E restored gas service after a short shut-off and when then came out to relight all of our gas appliances, our '50s Mars Furnace decided not to kick on. The PG&E tech claimed low voltage on the pilot generator and left. Since the furnace was fine a few days before, this did not make sense to us. One call to Berg and it was clear they were knowledgeable. They were able to squeeze us in the same-day, which was great since another night without heat would not be pleasant. Berg not only identified the problem almost immediately on arrival, but also had the issue resolved (soot/dust cleaned out, proper adjustments made to the pilot light) within minutes. In the past all I've gotten from other heating companies is a quick look with outrageous repair estimates ($900 for a pilot generator which was clearly not broken) and more often just a straight push for a new $10,000-$12,000 unit. Not Berg. Berg is fast, honest and they know their stuff. Berg Heating brings the experience every homeowner wants! read more

My furnace has been acting up all winter, so I finally decided to replace it. I called Berg's first, since I always like to support local businesses in Pacifica. The owner came out within a few hours and had an estimate for me later that day. In the meantime I also found three other vendors on Yelp, two of which came out for estimates and one did it over email/photos. Berg's had the best price out of the four for the exact same Bryant/Carrier furnaces so I moved forward. They had the furnace ready to install three days later. They arrived on time, removed the old furnace, and did a great job with the new installation (and even re-wired my nest to make it charge better). Overall a perfect five star experience. Wayne was right on time and fixed our furnace in exactly ten minutes, other reviews are right on he is a great guy and after PG&E spent an hour trying to figure it out he cleaned the pilot connected an extension wire to the thermostat line and the furnace click on, a 1949 unit. Berg's Heating was recommended to us by friends who had to replace a furnace recently and expressed high satisfaction with the job. My experience was great too. Duane found time in his busy schedule to stop by and diagnosed a problem with a circuit board on my furnace within minutes. He then left to find a replacement part , returned with it in a couple of hours and my furnace is like new again. Great service from Duane! Our furnace's draft inducer motor had seized up, and I had considered replacing it myself, but looking at the time and cost to get and install the parts, I decided to call Berg's Heating & Service that morning. I spoke with the answering service, and Duane returned my call quickly in a few minutes. Though it appeared he had a full schedule, he was able to schedule a visit at 4:30 that afternoon. At a little past 4, I was pleasantly surprised to get a knock on our door. Duane came in and quickly confirmed the issue. He removed the assembly, and took it to his van. Within 10-15 minutes, he was back. Duane had to saw off the motor shaft from the fan and install a new motor and fan, which I was pleased to have him do. Duane said these motors have to work with the hot flue gas, so their lifespan is about 10-12 years, which is about right as the furnace is about 13 years old. In a total of 30 minutes, the furnace was up and running. From my perspective, the total bill for the repair was reasonable and actually less than the cost for a complete assembly, so I was so pleased to have Duane do the repair on our furnace. We contacted Mr. Berg back in January after having gone months without a working furnace due to a failed gas control valve in a ridiculously old unit (original equipment to our house, built in '61). After having done research and contacted a couple of other contractors, I reached out to Berg's Heating & Service Co. Mr. Berg had an advantage in that he is a neighbor in Pacifica and knew exactly what unit we had based on having working familiarity with many of the homes on my street. We finally decided to replace our 60-year old gravity heater, and Bob Berg put in a new Payne 70,000 BTU gas heater. At first it was too loud, and Bob checked with his supplier and found that Payne had just in the last month boosted up the blower from 1/5 to 1/3 horsepower. So he swapped out the higher power motor with the lower, and also put some insulated tubing into the air intake. It worked! Acceptable sound level and nice clean efficient heating. Bob bent over backward to make sure we were pleased, didn't charge any extra for the unplanned extra work. Both Bob and Zack were great. Highest rating. read more

Me. Berg came out the same day he got my message that I needed help with a furnace at a rental house I have. I met him there and he was a very pleasant man. I was so frustrated with this furnace. My tenants had problems with this furnace for two years. Every time it got cold they would turn on the furnace. It would work for awhile then start blowing cold air. I had two different companies come to fix it a couple of times each during the two years. I spent several hundred dollars but it still didn't work correctly. I was so frustrated and worried for my tenants being so cold that I.was ready to tell Mr. Berg to rip it all out and put another one in. This furnace is only about 6-7 years old. I had the original old wall heater taken out and new central heating installed. Mr. Berg went up in the attic to look at the furnace. He had already turned the furnace on and it seemed to be running fine. He checked everything out and found an old corroded and dirty flame sensor! No one else had figured it out. It was so simple, but no one had thought to look at that. This tiny little part was causing all the trouble. He cleaned the sensor until it looked new. My tenants are so thrilled to finally have heat. We have had a real cold spell and the house is near the ocean so the tenants were freezing. Mr. Berg gave me a bill for $100. I was surprised, I thought that was very reasonable. What a relief to not have to constantly deal with this furnace! I will use Berg Heating in Pacifica every time I need that kind of service.
