I didn't know shrimp vein peelers existed!

This spot feels like a relic of department stores past. I don't necessarily mean that in a bad way, it's moreso to explain that from the in house gift shop to the hardware section to the clothing and kitchen sections to the coffee shop, with a sales employee in each section, I was thrown back to the days of department store popularity. While I didn't ask the staff any questions during my trip, I was greeted, and asked if I needed help by several different individuals. To be honest, ADHD and these types of shops may not mix. One minute I found myself grabbing the furniture polish on my list, and the next I've spontaneously found a random book for a friend. Two minutes later I'm looking at sprinkler heads, purchasing corner brackets and deciding if I should replace the hardware in our kitchen. I guess it's their win because I left with $44 worth of product in hand. To be fair, I've already used 3 of the wood products on a vintage dining table we recently acquired, and they worked beautifully so so far so good. I know a few people who would love this place. This would be a great spot to bring a friend or family with a wide variety of interests. They really have something for everyone.

Use the side entrance for quick trips. They have a second cashier station here.

Not a week goes by that I don't run to Bering's! Their selection of fine home wares, gifts, tools, accessories, and seasonal items is amazing. They remember guests by name, offer a great loyalty program, and have plenty of helpful staff in each department. Quality and service do not come without a cost - but Bering's always provides a great value for their customers.

First visit to Bering's on Bissonnet in a clean and safe shopping strip environment. Ample customer parking lot. The store is well organized into greeting cards, kitchen, wine, coffee, clothing boutique, and hardware. There's something for everyone's taste and budget preference. Friendly store clerks were posted throughout the store. I purchased a 50% off Kevin Belton cookbook.

Love, love this fine store with beautiful selection of china & hardware. It has been my source for good knives, dresses for my Granddaughter, extra keys & Spode china + placemats for 2 decades! Friendly & polite service! I'm going today to poke around. I'll bet I discover something I need too.

I just need to get my berings

It's time for me to figure out my Berings. Give me a minute. This is a rather adorable hardware store where I had a couple of bad customer service experiences a few years ago, but lately it seems like they have refreshed their staff and have been doing pretty well. It's not too expensive, although it's not dirt cheap discount stuff, and Barbie always has a good time in here and finds lots of stuff that she wants, and we end up spending too much money.

We were near this store and the signage saying hardware and gifts intrigued me....glad we did. You can buy a garden hose, an egg barbecue pit, pelletized smokers, gas grills, chocolates, coffee beans from all over, sauces for grilling, cookware, yard decorations, and all kinds of....hardware. We bought an assortment of whole beans, we'll be back for more goodies.

This store is nice for alot of reasons. First off if you need a gift they have something for anyone and I mean anyone. From your fancy schmancy person who probably has everything, to someone who you just need to get a token of appreciation for such as a teacher or a bridal consultant. Prices also run from reasonably priced.....to....OH MY GOD that costs what? Are they kidding? Yes...this places goes from the kinda haves to the haves but not the have nots. Berings, although a lovely store is not for all people. It is only for those more well to do Houstonians. I knew I was way out of my league when I saw a $299.00 pillow. Cultural diversity was also not very apparent here unless you count the people that were workers. I was able to purchase 2 very cute wallets and a small hand bag as appreciation gifts for my daughters wedding coordinators and the venue's representative at a reasonable price. When the lady handing my transaction asked me if I would like them gift wrapped I said sure thinking it was complimentary when it ended up being $6.99 for each gift. That I think is just ridiculous. So the 3 stars is really for the fact that they have totally out priced not just the average person but the above average person who I can only think that they do not want in their store. Charging for gift wrapping when they already over charge on the merchandise they have in the store. And least we not forget that lack of welcoming of cultural diversity of the public. Pretty much the only color you will find here is white unless you are ordering a coffee....not the way of the world Berings.

I'm so glad I stopped by Southland Hardware because you will not be finding me at a big box…read morehardware store moving forward. They have just about anything for home improvement and projects. I was greeted at the front by a friendly lady who guided me to what I was looking for. She went above and beyond with explaining the different types of pesticides and her personal experiences and recommended methods of application (scatter the boric acid around instead of a straight line for roaches, which I didn't know!). It was a lot of fun browsing the store because there was so much to take in. The layout is like an antique store but for hardware, from plumbing to doorknobs to cleaning supplies, they had just about everything. I had an extremely great experience at Southland and will be back! And do not fret about parking, there is a large - by Montrose standards - parking lot in the back.

It's where Robert Durst bought his tools to dismember that body. I digress. Anyway, local hardware stores are the heart of any city. On my way after a Yelp pick Up at Cosmic Juice across the street, I saw Southland Hardware and we decided to drop by. It was like going to the candy store for my husband. He was enthralled with all of the knick knacks that he was in one aisle for a long time while I chased around my three year old who was equally entertained by all of the parts such a store can have. They sold everything from small appliances to gardening items and anything you might need to help your home. I didn't know what anything was except for the snacks and they had a good and unique variety of those. Everyone was helpful and super chill. I appreciate the chill these days a lot more than I used to. What a great neighborhood find and yes things might seem a little bit more than say Amazon or another big box store but putting money into a community store helps save your community in the long run. You help the people who live there and put back into the place you live.

East End Hardware was our final stop of the evening, and overall, it was a really cool experience…read more After dinner at Nancy's Hustle, we walked down the block to East End Hardware because I had specifically looked them up and wanted to try one of their snowball cocktails. Since this was a first date, I loved that we could just walk over, grab a drink, sit at the bar and keep the conversation going. I ordered the Strawberry Snowball, made with Peruvian pisco and strawberry syrup. It was good, and the portion was definitely large enough to share, which made it kind of fun for a date. I will say, though, I think I expected it to be a little more "cocktail" and a little less "snowball." There was A LOT of ice, and I found myself wishing there was a little more actual cocktail mixed throughout it. It wasn't bad at all--it just wasn't quite what I had pictured when I decided I wanted to try one. One thing I REALLY liked about East End Hardware was the selection of board games and card games available to play while you hang out. We initially grabbed Connect Four, but unfortunately something was wrong with the bottom and it wouldn't latch to hold the pieces. So we switched over to Battleship--and that actually turned out to be really cute! We sat at the bar playing Battleship, sharing our Strawberry Snowball and talking. It added a fun, playful element to the date instead of us just sitting there having another drink. I definitely think the games are a nice touch, especially if you're coming here on a date or with friends. The atmosphere was great, too. East End Hardware has a cool, quaint, laid-back vibe that makes it easy to settle in and stay awhile. I'd definitely go back, although next time I think I'd skip the snowball and try one of their regular cocktails instead. But I would absolutely grab another game while I'm there. Overall, a cool neighborhood spot and a really fun way to end the night.
