Love this place, homey and intimate feel, customer service is great! Came in for keys, and came out with so much more! Dishonest. Dishonest store. Also, heavily misleading with information on their products. I purchased a Stihl weed eater. Literally, took it home and it wouldn't start, and choking. I brought the item in. And they put their fuel in. Afterwards, they said it was fine. I communicated that I was heavily unsure about it. Because I had just bought the item. I went home. After I was done with work. I tried to start it up again and NO START. Literally, left the same fuel they put in at their store. And nothing, no start. Obviously, having purchased a stihl product. You would think it's a legit product. However, nope. Not working. I brought it back to the store. With my "RECEIPT" which states I can return. And they tell me. They don't take stihl products back. I explained how MISLEADING! they are for not sharing that information. Now, I'm left with a NEW product that's not working. And this store would not take my return back. So much for trying to support a mom & pop shop. However, with bad service and misleading information on products. I now understand why customers have a lack of trust with smaller stores. Interesting, they didn't mention anything about NO RETURNs the first time I went with the non-working product. Again, dishonest & misleading. What's wild. I was getting ready to purchase a stihl blower and lawn mower too. Glad I didn't and saved myself a heavy situation. I'll never, ever come here again. Misleading to the highest level. Been supporting this store since we moved to the Heights 2 years. I grew up working in a local family owned store and always try to buy locally and willing to pay10-15% premium to do it. There is a storm coming to Houston so I went to buy gas cans. Paid $85 for a 5 gallon and a 2.5 gallon can. Online or at a Big Box that would be $40-$50 max Really disappointed in that level of profiteering. It will now make more likely to use Amazon or a Big Box read more

What a pleasant surprise - as a not-so-handy person, I dread going to hardware stores because they are usually overwhelming and take forever to navigate and find what you are looking for. Not the case here! This is a great, friendly neighborhood spot with exceptionally nice and helpful staff. The store is packed to the gills with all of your hardware needs, plus more like gifts, decor, cleaning supplies, etc. Since this is a smaller spot, you won't have 1000 options for each piece like you may at some big-box stores, but the prices are fair and it feels much better shopping local. I believe this place has all that a hardware store AND a gift shop should have and that this is the most fun store I've ever found. I love shopping here, and they associates have been a big help to me with what tools and hardware I needed for household projects. Why not five stars? Okay, it's just this one caveat. I have frequently watched the associates swarm a browsing male and carefully ignore a browsing female. I've complained to the manager about this twice over the years, but it's still a frequent thing, so I give up. What I like about this Mom and Pop hardware store, is that I can usually find exactly what I need. More important, I can ask one of their employees for advice for what I need to buy, or how to install it, and get reliable advice. Compared to the big box stores, the advice given is usually on target. They also custom order screens and glass. Their variety of hardware is unlike most hardware stores, they literally always have what I need. I can remember the one time I needed an electrical part that they didn't have. They sent me to another place that had the item. They are also dog friendly, and have always had a treat for my boy! The place is bigger than it looks and carries gift and decor items in addition to hardware. The hardware items are comparably price, but I have found the gifts and decor to be somewhat high. read more

When you aren't trying to buy all the materials to build an entire subdivision, and don't feel like standing in line behind someone who is 2. When you don't want to buy a map or hire a guide/sherpa to find some tools 3. When you need just a simple screw and not enough to last you 10 years (I'm talking about hardware, people, don't read into things) 4. If you crave the whole road rage/parking/traffic thing, you can always hit the Galleria at 1pm on a Saturday instead The prices are pretty competitive to Lowe's/Home Depot and the selection is pretty good. They also carry things that are hard to find because they are low volume. Single-outlet surge protectors. Someone posted on Talk that they were looking for Diatomaceous Earth and C&D had it! The staff there knows their stuff and are pretty good about helping you out without you having to chase them down. And seriously, the wasted time and gas? The aggravation? It's worth more to me than a couple of cents I might save on a light bulb--assuming I even want a dozen of them at once. The local hardware store smell is an added bonus! read more

Arthur and Max, it worked!! I came in after having ravaged a wall trying to hang a large framed painting in drywall. Mostly because of my bad measurements, this wall is now f---ed y'all. I went to C&D uncertain of what I needed to get it hung and was immediately met by Max who helped me look at options and then Arthur, the store manager, who got me squared away with monkey hooks. This store is a fine example of how important it is to support local businesses! We stopped by here this past Christmas Eve to find a car fuse. Since we really did not want to venture out into the holiday madness at a larger store, I told the bf to pull in here since I remember reading good things on yelp. Yelp came through again! Before going in, we were distracted by the Traeger grills they have on display in the entrance and they had nice little benches for sale as well. Just going in, a very nice employee asked if we needed help or had any questions about the grills. We were just looking but we thanked him for offering. After we went inside, we were warmly greeted and another associate helped us find the exact fuse we were looking for. We were very pleased that they had the one we needed plus tons more, and they sell them individually not just in sets. After finding what we needed, we browsed to see what else they had. During our semi-short visit, we were asked if we needed help by every employee that we encountered but we didn't feel as if we were being "watched" as others have mentioned. This store is deceiving! From the outside, it looks like a small shop but the store is actually pretty spacious and they have plenty of items for the project you're working on. From electrical components, to plumbing, to gardening, you name it, they have it. They also have an aisle with gift items, like scarves and wraps and even various items from Yeti. When we finally got to the register, we had a basket full of little odds and ends that we didn't remember we needed until we found them here. For our first visit, we really liked this place and their prices are very reasonable. The prices were cheaper here than if we were to go to other big chain stores. We did come here out of necessity but I think this is going to be our stop for hardware and home goods from now on. If you're tired of the chain stores with the non-existent customer service, give this place a try. :) read more

I went in looking for a small screw. I had trouble finding it and I asked for help. The person in the next isle rolled their eyes as if I was bothering him. He found a similar screw but it was too long. When I asked if he knew of any other place that might look for the proper screw he seemed even more annoyed and said I'd just have to check around. I bought the screw at his suggestion - winch didn't work as I expected. This wasn't very much help for someone who is new to town. If I ever have to go back to this store I will avoid the big guy with a long beard. read more

About as good as a hardware store gets, and I have been coming here pretty much since the day I moved into the Heights. Service is super friendly, but above that incredibly knowledgeable. They are always willing to help you find what you need, at the cheapest price. All the home improvement goods are there, nick nacks for the yard, mulch, good and healthy pet foods. Along with that one of a kind, hardware store smell that is so reassuring. Every neighborhood needs a true local hardware store. This is a place that would make Hank Hill happy, and it certainly makes the Heights happy cause the place is always packed. The prices are competitive with any chain or box store as well. Looks small from the outside, but this neighborhood hardware store has met all my weekend warrior needs! As soon as you're inside, someone is there to greet you and guide you around until you have everything on your list. The people who work here actually know a thing or two about DIY-ing, gardening, etc., and they are willing to share helpful advice when asked. C&D is well-stocked on tools, paint supplies, gardening supplies, and hardware of all shapes and sizes. They also cut Kwikset compatible keys and offer knife sharpening services. Oh, and they allow my sort-of-well-behaved dog inside the store, and give her a treat at the register... It doesn't get much more mom & pop than that. Love this store! read more

They saved me a ton of money on a car transponder key. They cut, programmed, and tested the key--it was perfect--in about 15 minutes. The local locksmith wanted to charge me 3x as much for the key as these guys! This is definitely a down to earth local hardware store. read more

My fiancé brought our Stijl trimmer in last September (2019)...we didn't get it back until January!!! Even then...it had another issue so we took it in to another ACE Hardware and they fixed what was not fixed by C&D. 2 months ago, the repair done by C&D was no longer working. We called several times before we could speak with John who "fixed" it originally. Once we did, we asked what kind of warranty there was on work and parts and he said he would check and get back with us. That was over a week ago. Still no call. Unacceptable! read more

Don't take your Stihl trimmer here to get fixed. I took mine there in September and didn't get it back until December and it still didn't work. Took it back and told their mechanic that it wasn't starting because it wasn't getting any spark. Got it back in January and the throttle was sticking so I took it to a different shop to get that fixed. I used it about 4 times before it stopped starting again. Appears that it isn't getting any spark again. Contacted them numerous times to inquire as to if the parts and labor they performed were still under warranty. No one could give me an answer. Save yourself the frustration and go elsewhere for Stihl repairs. read more

They have a few aisles full of random kitschy cute house stuff, so this is where you can find me while the boyfriend searches for a nut or a bolt or a hammer or whatever. Very easy to run in & out without the hassle of big stores. I really love how they ask me if I want a bag, especially when buying small stuff. No need to contribute to landfill waste when you can easily carry your purchases out without the plastic bag!! I like to come here when I need a quick gift and when I am in the middle of a project and need something right then and I don't want to head to lowes or home depot. I also like that you can go in with most questions and get a pretty knowledgeable answer. Close to home is a plus as well. I think the prices are a bit higher, but in avoiding lines, lots of people and waiting 20 min for some customer service it's worth it.
