I had one of the worst experiences with Honda of Berkeley and Honda of Concord here's my story I contacted Berkeley Honda regarding the 3rd Spark Plug Fouling out in my 2010 Honda Accord the service advisor by the name of Rory told me that the engine code the I gave him was invalid and then he started to tell me about what happens at the 90,000 mile service which I was only at 70,000 and this had nothing to do with why I was calling when I told him this he got upset and hung up in my face. I called back and spoke to the service Manager (Corey) he apologized for Rory's bad behavior and told me that he would investigate the engine code and call me back with the info. He called me back and told me that there was a service bulletin out on my make and model for the exact engine code that I originally gave Rory who stated that the code was invalid. He went on to say that this issue was covered by an extended warranty through Honda; now just think if I would have listened to Rory I would have paid for a repair that was covered under warranty. I then took my car to Concord Honda since that's the city where the car broke down. They had my car for 3 days, when I was contacted to pick my car up there was no mention of anything being wrong with my car, however as the service advisor drove my car up it sounded like a ticking time bomb when I asked why was it sounding that way the service advisor and the tech who worked on my car told me that when they do these type if repairs they sometimes get the timing belt wet and it causes it to make that sound so the service advisor sprayed WD40 on the belt and then told me to drive it for a while and if it doesn't go away call them and I can pay for the belt and they would take care of the labor mind you there was nothing wrong with my belt prior to the repair the noise went away long enough for me to pull off . I brought my car back on Monday and spoke with the Service Director (Chris) I told him that his tech admitted that the repair caused damage to my time belt and that I would like them to change it for free. He actually told me that he had to contact Honda to see if they would cover the belt keep in mind I'm at Honda of Concord and he's saying he has to contact Honda to see if they will cover a 60.00 belt. He then begins to tell me that the belt is just old and needed to be changed, when I asked him how often should these belts be changed he told me every 7 years now keep in mind I have a 2010 Honda Accord so if the belt should be changed every 7 years then my belt is not old and shouldn't need to be changed (they were full of it) anyway they finally changed the belt and guess who approved the time belt cost???? Chris the same guy that said he had to contact Honda for the approval. A week later the oil pressure sensor went out this time the car broke down in Oakland which leads to the better part of this story. I had the best experience at Oakland Honda they really know what customer service means. I mean he really took a bad experience and turned it around they have a new Manager his name is Johnny and he is the Bom.com he really fought for me with my warranty company which happens to be really shady. He really makes me wish I would have bought my car from Oakland Honda instead of Berkeley Honda. He really made me forget about my prev. bad experiences with Honda and to me that is what good customer service is all about. And to think he had only been there about a week as the Manager of Oakland Honda prior to my car being towed there. I couldn't have had better timing, I mean he had his team wash my car for me and told me about any other things I needed he really made me leave with a smile on my face I will be taking my car to Honda of Oakland from now on. Honda is the most fraudulent company I ever have dealt with. Within the first year of buying this car, a 2016 Civic, a serious problem developed with the trunk, which randomly opens for no reason, sometimes overnight, sometimes while driving on the highway, which is incredibly dangerous. We took the car in twice to the dealer in Delray Beach Florida, and they claimed first they couldn't identify or replicate the problem, and then that they fixed it. They did nothing as far as I can tell and the problem never stopped. I wasted a day and a half on these visit accomplishing nothing. Last month, now in California, and still under warranty, the trunk opened while I was away for a week, and I had significant water damage to at least $200 worth of items in my trunk (books, tapes, a book bag, etc.). I spoke with Livette at Honda, who told me to go into the Berkeley dealer to have the car assessed. I reviewed incredibly explicitly the history of the matter, and told her I wanted to be sure the dealer would be authorized to make repairs. Instead. I wasted another 4+ hours at the dealer, who when I returned (they didn't even bother to call me), said they couldn't identify and had never heard of the issue. There are hundreds of complaints about this on line, and when I showed them the complaints and how other dealers had fixed the problem, said they needed to get approval from Honda (Honda had said they needed the dealer to approve the repair for them, so it's like dealing with the insane--this is a deliberate system designed to prevent repairs. The dealer will blame Honda, and Honda will blame the dealer, but they're equally reprehensible). I knew ten times as much about the issue than the dealer did. The dealer said they would call me after obtaining approval--and of course they never did. Livette, when I complained, was absolutely the most offensive person I have ever dealt with, lied to my face about what she said, incessantly interrupted me, and refused to authorize the repair and closed the case, even though she had not even spoken with the dealer. This is the definition of fraud. I'd go to this dealer or deal with Honda if you feel like wasting your day, are a masochist, or want to deal with the incompetent and the fraudulent. read more

In general have to say I do not like dealerships for service which is usually overpriced, and have historically gone to independent garages for post-warranty service. With our current 2007 Fit purchased at this dealership we've had service done both here and at Art's Automotive (a good independent I've often used over the years for my Japanese cars) and other garages. In the end we have returned to Berkeley Honda because the prices have been--amazingly--on par or less expensive than the independents, and on at least two occasions they have done the service past warranty for free. There was an ignition coil that went bad after 60k miles that they did free last year, and today a emissions system failure light came on at 69k miles. They quoted 135 dollars to check the light, but got right to work and within an hour while I waited reported it was a software failure requiring an update, and that they would not charge anything for the visit. So both the coil and the light I expected to have to pay for because they happened out of warranty, and I would have paid at an independent garage, but we got the "good will" treatment free repair each time. Cool. Another couple freebies--expected--were that we were contacted for an airbag recall, and another time for a power window switch recall and both were fixed promptly and free. In all these cases the scheduling has been easy--this morning was a 8:30am Monday drop-in without an appointment. Also props to Matthew who took extra time to go over the car's records with me and explain some past work my wife had done that I had questions about. So, at the end of the day and in contrast to my past dealings with dealerships, Berkeley Honda has treated us quite well and earned our good will and loyalty. read more

I contacted them to buy Honda Odyssey. I explicitly asked question to sales man ( Tim ) " Is there any visible scratches?".They did not disclose it. I travelled all the way from Sacramento and found that there was big paint rip on the bumper ( have pictures to prove it). When I looked under the van , I found big ( more than a foot ) scratch ( have pictures to prove it). I reported to Salesman Bob that van is damaged. His response was " carfax says no accident". I said I can show the damage, he said " I don't need to see it , have a nice trip back". I said, "Can you show me any other van ( there were 5 vans in the lot)?" His response was "Its too late (6:30 , dealership closes at 7 ), I need to go home,I was here to make this deal". It was still half an hour to close. I saw him sitting on the chair after refusing the service and I saw a other sales man showing van to other people. Wow !! Never seen such a customer service ! They turned back a determined and motivated customer who travelled 90 miles to buy a van. On the one hand people complain , there are no jobs. On the other hand such people are still in job !! Sad to see, such people , specially in Sales. Matter of fact Berkley honda rarely posts all the pictures in craigslist! Waste of time ... go there if you have no other option .. or be careful to validate what they say or be ready to be treated like "unwanted". read more

After the service Ryan didn't tell me when my next appointment (service) was. At the end I tried to talk to the managers but didn't seem to care much. I received a phone call from someone from Berkely honda after a few days and then I complained properly. This lady told me that they were going to call me soon and offered me a "courtesy". That was 3 weeks ago and he never called again. I'm very disappointed with this dealership, very bad service and disrespectful to customers. I understand that they can be busy but nobody came to even say hello or to tell me that I should wait a bit or invite me to sit in their lounge while I waited. Not even when I complained! I also run a business and I would never do that to a customer, that's disrespectful. They never treated me like that in SF honda. I went to this dealership because I moved to Berkely from SF, but after this I rather drive to San Francisco if I need service or renew my car. The air conditioner compressor on my Odyssey failed while I was on a road trip a few weeks ago, and was replaced by an out of town Honda dealer. It just failed again on a super hot day, and started blowing super hot air from the vents. Ugh! I called a few Honda dealers, and they all turned me down for same day service except Berkeley Honda. This was my first visit. Service adviser Matt asked me a few details, and when I arrived, he already had the service order ready and waiting, including a rental car for the day set up, on the house. He kept me posted though out the day, and I drove home with everything working. And check this out: When I came to pick up my car, I realized I had forgot my wallet. Matt had gone home, but service adviser Rory loaned me $10 to top off the rental car gas tank, and even offered to let me call in my credit card number the next day. I had the card number in my smart phone, so I was able to pay right then, and drove away quite satisfied. Everyone was quite friendly. (Unlike the snotty attitude I encountered at El Cerrito Honda). read more

I should say up front that purchasing a new vehicle is often one of the most slimy transactions I get involved in and I generally dread the process. I used the Costco auto purchase service to help me locate a dealer to purchase a 2014 or 2015 new Honda CRV from. The service pointed me towards Berkeley Honda. Within an hour I got a call from Sam Korwatch and we set up an appointment for me to visit the dealership later that day. The experience was actually pleasant. I test drove two CRVs. Sam was friendly, low key and knowledgeable. He answered all my questions. There was zero pressure or effort to sell me stuff I didn't need or want. The Costco program saved me lots of money and Berkeley Honda honored it. The Finance guy Richard was also knowledgeable and pleasurable to deal with. The entire transaction took less than 2 1/2 hours including a thorough overview of the car's features. I highly recommend this dealership and the individuals I dealt with, especially if you have a phobia about auto dealers like I do. read more

Absolutely horrible service. I wish I could give a zero star review. The manager of the service center is not only incredibly rude, but also extremely unprofessional. I am flabbergasted at how poorly I was treated and will be reporting this Honda, and their manager, to Honda headquarters. I would completely recommend that you never go here, as I am worried for you being taken advantage of and treated like crap. Do not go here. I believe the service advisor name was Ryan, and he told me he didn't want to service my vehicle because of my attitude and because I was worried about losing 150 dollars (I am a college student, at cal, so don't have extra money to throw away). I instead came to Honda el cerrito, who are amazing and kind and I will only be going here from now on. Shame on Berkeley Honda. And save your time. Also, I took my car here for service several months ago and they didn't even fill up my windshield wiper fluid, which is a minor offense compared to how I was treated today, but still, bad service all around. read more

Ryan Nelson was literally the WORST service advisor I have ever encountered. I didn't want to sign my order yet because I wanted a breakdown of what I was paying for. And when I asked, he ripped the order out of my hands, signed it FOR me (which, is that even legal?!), said my car would be done by 2pm and shooed me away. How could you possibly hold this job and not be able to manage your emotions? Literally any service job gets frustrating, you're going to be mad every day?! I get it if you having a bad day, but taking it out on your customers is NOT okay. He was rude to 2 other women i spoke to in the waiting room. I get that he's busy or overwhelmed but this was in no way acceptable to treat your customer this way. I literally never leave reviews but this was SO bad that i had to say something. Carter Tyson ended up speaking to me and he was understanding and took the time to go through my order and answer my questions. read more

I bought my used honda hybrid civic last year from Berkeley Honda, a great car and the best thing is that it has a manual transmission..getting up to 52 MPG on highway and 45 in city so its all good...then this week the IMA battery light check engine light came on...whooops..so I took it back to Berkeley Honda, Rory took care of me they saw it and within one hour diagnosed that it needed new battery..normally a few thousand dollars or more repair for a hybrid BUT it was under warranty and they even waived the diagnosis fee of $150 and the next day they replaced it and that took all of two hours..the car runs like new even though it is a 2005, so thank you Sam the great salesman who I bought the car from and Rory for making this battery issue smooth and totally painless and even a shout out to the nice young lady that shuttled me back to Berkeley this is a good local owned business that deserves our patronage. read more

WORST service and DANGEROUS people! I bought a low-mileage certified car from these guys in April 09 and it turned out that they sold me a car with defective front brake rotors and pads. Huge safety hazard. My wife (with our kids in the car) almost lost control of the vehicle just 2 weeks after we bought it. We went back there, they obviously apologized and were nice to us. We let them the car for the day and they assured us that they fixed it. I should not have trust them because a few months later, the rotors and pads were out again. So I went back to them and they said that now they would have to charge me $1,000 to do the work. I was appalled!! I took it to another mechanics to get his opinion and he assured me that these were not rotors and pads that had been changed a few months ago. I ended up paying for the work at the new mechanics. I STRONGLY advise you not to buy a car or service your car there. read more

I just had the best experience at Berkeley Honda. I was suprised to see the other negative reports. Being a business owner myself I do know that you rarely get people to take the time to give a good review so here it is. I dealt with the Internet Sales Manager, Brian Vaile. I received several other quotes from Bay Area dealers. They were very close in price. Brian was the only person to actually call me and offered to match the pricing I have and gave me my 1st service free of charge. I went in a little leary. The vehicle was out front ready to go, clean and gassed up. He was very friendly and had me in and out in 1hr +. The Finance Manager John did sell me a warranty but it was a good deal compared to other pricing I received. I got the 0.9% Financing and I am very happy. Easy transaction and no BS! Ryan Nelson in service dept is a crook, liar and thief. He buys prescription pills and is addicted to them. I also have video and audio recordings of him doing so. He threatened me in front of witnesses and nothing was done about it. A police report was filed and still the situation was poorly handled by the owner Tim Bienke. This place has a few good people working for them. Few being the key word. All in all, the place is ok but management has no idea what they are doing. New location is not suitable for the type of business. No parking lot and cashiers have to park your vehicles on the street. Probably because the idiot owner doesn't know what the hell he is doing. Service manager Carter has been alright with me, although he is the lesser of evils. Bottom line, don't take your car there. read more

recommended to this Honda dealer by a co worker of mine which took me in to Berkeley Honda. Any ways so we took my Lexus here because I had a nail that I got on the freeway in the rear tire. I called around to local tire shop and they wanted to charge me $35.00 just to patch my tire. After bringing my es 300 in, even though it is a Toyota. The dude took my car in automatically and told me that they would have it patched and that they were going to have it done within the hour. After I came back to get my car he told me that that he wasn't going to charge me anything for the service. Now either they are just very very nice or my friend paid him when I wasn't there, either way it awesome and I was rolling again. read more

I showed up Sunday afternoon looking into a pre-owned Honda Accord and thanks to the excellent customer service provided by Brent Miletich @ internet sales, I was able to take home my first car. Being a first time buyer I was very nervous, but the staff was very welcoming and even made the car buying experience an enjoyable one. The great customer service continued to finance where both Chris and Joe talked me through every step of the way. It was also a nice touch to meet the GM, Kenneth, who welcomed me to the Berkeley of Honda family. Berkeley Honda service is the worst place to service cars. They are thieves. Be aware, they tell to do extra service that you don't need to. Now I will never go back to place. And don't recommend this place to anyone. Made appointment 3 days ago to come in to have car checked for a sometimes "jolting" feeling when car is at red lights and stop signs. Checked in with Ryan Nelson and it seemed he couldn't find my appointment in computer system. I went here toto a break pads replaced as my light just went on last night. Nice on the phone and say I could get right it over there could get me right in. After being committed that it would be taken car of by the end of the day . They call me when the job was done. It was getting dangerously close to 6pm so called them to see what was up.
