A rude, softskills-lacking, blonde long hair man assisted me (presumably the owner) - handled my harddrive with very little care (rough, especially for a disk drive). He wanted to charge me $200 just to try a few recovery software. And was not confident that he would be able to recover the files. Don't waste your time! I ended up running a recovery app from the AppStore ($49) and got my files back on my own. Don't let this prick jerk you around! Responding to Phillip: I don't see how my review is childish, but I do agree that we can let the reviews speak for themselves. Looks like the "rude technician" is not an isolated feedback, and your response is a perfect example. I've come here before and they did great work on my iPhone. Came here to replace my iwatch screen and they fix it but NEVER gave me the disclaimer that the watch was no longer water proof. I jumped into the shower as I usually do with my iwatch and afterwards it stopped working. I would have never put it near any water if they would have given me that information. That was also never disclosed when I took the watch to get repaired. They just told me it's fixable and everything will work after replacing the screen. They apologized for not disclosing that it wasn't waterproof and acknowledged their mistake, but now I have a completely broken watch. On top of that they wouldn't refund me for the service and parts $160. They just gave me $50 back. Overall, I spent over $100 so they can completely break my iwatch. I was washing my hands in the bathroom at work when my iPhone 5s fell out of my pocket, did a triple bounce on the tiled floor, and slid a good 2 feet. Affordable, fast, you speak directly to the tech guy, great location. Berkeley iPhone Repair (they're in Oakland) is in a loft at a Metro PCS store around the corner from Claremont Ave on College. It's just two guys, some tables, and the bare essentials they need to repair your phone. Some jobs can be done while you stand there, if they need more time, you're in a great location to wander, eat, shop, and browse. I'm a do-it-yourself kind of person, but some bits inside the phone are almost imperceptible. Pressure applied to the wrong spot can crush a logic board. Unless your phone is still under warranty, if you need a battery swapped or busted button repaired, put your ego aside (talking to myself here), and just go to Berkeley iPhone Repair first. read more

Wow! Great service--I had dropped my phone on a Friday and after my phone gave my bf a splinter from small glass shards coming out, I knew I had to get it fixed ASAP. I came here on a Monday morning at 10am--right when it opened and the guy behind the counter helped me out immediately. I gave him my phone and he told me it would only take 20 minutes. Before taking off, I signed a paper acknowledging the price I'd pay w/ tax ($90+8ish tax) once I came back to pick up my phone. Surely enough, 25 minutes later, I returned and my phone looked as good as new!! Because I know I tend to drop my phone and even my phone case didn't stop my phone screen from shattering, I decided to get a glass screen protector too--the guy explained everything behind its function, etc. and he applied it on for me right then and there! The protector costed an extra $20 but I'd rather I had spent it on this then drop my phone again and having to replace the display screen again. -__- Overall, very fast and great service! When my daughter accidentally slammed her iPhone in the car door (it was in her jacket pocket) this morning and left it cracked and unresponsive, we feared the worst. A friend had recommended this business, and I called to check it out. The woman who I spoke with was helpful, even offering a quote. Parts for this job were actually 60-80 wholesale 130 retail, so 160 would have been a good deal considering the labor, clean environment, dude didnt have sausage fingers, and experience and talent required. Ended up paying 175 plus tax because I needed it ASAP and it was enroute while in company truck, and mgr said ok to stop. The reason I went with them is because like proper service people they quoted up front and stuck to their price and didnt require a deposit, even if they did CA law days 10% or 1000 whichever is less, so if your repair guy wants 100% up front hes fronting. In addition to all this they were being polite and convenient. The girl answered the phone "Hello" Instead of "Berkeley Phone Repair how can we help you" but that is minor. Needless to say I am broke now but happy about it. NEVER be surprised when people complain if you didnt tell them what they were getting into, especially if they expect you to work miracles and reconstruct chinese garbage made by children with tiny hands at the last minute. I didnt have that problem, they got it done at the last minute, buttons work, screen still sharp, and touch sensitivity same regardless of oem or not. I am back to work satisfied. The work they did had issues but was backed and they tried to do their best, but my real issue is with the blonde hair guy with the man bun. He is incredibly rude, short with people, and frankly could care less to talk to you or if you ever came back. Several encounters with him and none have been great. I called around for pricing to fix the screen on my Android phone. This place had by far the lowest price among the ten places I called. They said it would take 3 days to order the screen and have it come in, which I was fine with since my phone was still working. I asked if they needed a deposit, and he said it was not necessary, which I was very impressed with. When I came in, the gentleman was extremely polite and estimated it would take 40 minutes to do the work. I said I would stick around, and sat in the waiting area and read some magazines. The store was clean and airy. The contrast with other phone repair stores was great in that they are usually not so customer service-friendly, and they don't have a seating area where you can wait while your phone is being fixed. The repair only took 20 minutes, which I had thought would be the case, but it was nice that he had overestimated instead of underestimated. The repair itself was flawless, you could not tell the difference between a brand new phone and my repair. Other such phone screen repairs I have had, you could tell that it wasn't completely aligned perfectly or that there was some kind of gap. Highly recommended. read more

I suffered through vacation and came home looking for a solution. Searched and found Philip on craigslist. Of course, I yelped his business to see about the reviews = all five star. My home button broke so I made an appointment to get it replaced. I dropped it off, walked to Trader Joe's, walked back, and it was all done! It was so easy and hassle free. It cost $35 but that seems to be the standard price anywhere else. It's also conveniently located next to the 51B and 49 bus stops so getting there and finding the place was also easy. I'm very satisfied and plan on coming back if anything else becomes wrong with my iphone. read more

I have been burned twice by this place and will never go back to them again. This review will likely have typos as there are portions of my screen that no longer are operable. My wife went to this place a while ago, I want to say 2016 or maybe 2017 because her iPhone 8 or whatever they had at that time had a cracked screen. They fixed it, she bought a new case with lips so the phone wouldn't touch the pavement if it fell and within 2 days the screen cracked after a very minor fall on carpet. She went back to them and there response was, "yeah if the screen cracks it's easier for it to crack again even if it's replaced." Um ok. Maybe this should be disclosed at some point during the replacement process (if it is even true). I think ultimately we got the phone fixed by Apple and it was eventually stolen by a thief in Barcelona. Then, I took my iPhone 11 there in December 2022 after my screen broke. I really didn't want to take it there because of the last experience, but even with the cracked screen the phone was functional and I wasn't in a rush to spend $200 at Apple. Then one day the phone screen just basically stopped working and wasn't taking any inputs so I was like, "I don't have time to take it to Apple and wait for an appointment during the holiday rush, I guess I'll take it the place down the street." I took it there, everyone was nice, they fixed it in 30 minutes all that was fine. But within a few days the faceid stopped working bc it wasn't a genuine part screen and they never said that would happen. Also the new screen unlike the apple screen has zero water resistance and becomes inoperable with even a hint of water. In the last few months there are so many parts of the screen that no longer respond to touch. It was really hard to write this review actually. But I'm a perfectionist and trudged through. For Apple anything repairs, I'd recommend the M.A.C. store, 2.4 miles away in downtown Berkeley. They charge a bit more, and have been around forever - both for good reason: They're honest, knowledgeable, careful, and courteous. From this store's reply, note that the owner insults his customers, and doesn't understand A/B testing a device. This place concentrates the worst downsides of the Apple ecosystem: arrogance, overcharging, and technical failure. Oh, and click through to this "curmudgeon's" (my) overwhelmingly positive reviews of other businesses. Who've earned them. ********** [Original review, shortened:] Drawn by the positive Yelp reviews, I found these folks to actually be parts-challenged, sloppy, and inflexible. Judge for yourself: Pouria quoted me a reasonable-sounding $35 to replace my iPhone's 30-pin connector, which he did while I waited. Except, the new connector behaved just like the old one - it charged the phone and powered peripherals, but wouldn't recognize my audio hardware interface. I initially concluded that either the interface was defective, or the phone was damaged internally. (Because what could be wrong with a brand-new connector, installed by competent people?) So I assumed I'd just wasted $35 on a needless repair. No problem - I could absorb that, to support seemingly nice people who'd tried their best. It took weeks to borrow enough hardware to debug the real situation: The interface is actually fine; the phone was still malfunctioning. Pouria told me to bring in everything - my malfunctioning phone, a borrowed working phone, the interface, and an audio source to trigger that. I showed all this to Phillip, who offered to swap in a different 30-pin connector. He did that, and bingo, I finally had connectivity. Meaning, the first connector they'd installed had been defective. But tracking down my test phone, etc., had taken me 2 weeks beyond the store's 90-day warranty. Which Phillip flatly refused to honor. The best deal he'd offer me was $25 instead of $35 for the second replacement. I grudgingly agreed to this. I also had him replace the phone's battery, for another $35. Over the next two days, I discovered two things. (1) The new battery wasn't stable: With the phone locked, and all radios off, the battery's charge percentage would keep dropping 3-4% overnight. ... (2) There was a new deep scratch on the screen face. Luckily, only the screen protector was scratched -- the glass beneath was OK. But evidently, Phillip had neglected to (hullo) cradle the screen with something soft while working on the phone. (While I was at the store, another customer complained that his phone's splintered glass back had gotten much more shattered during repair. Phillip acknowledged this, saying: "When they're broken, it's hard to get them off without breaking them further." He offered only to give this customer "a deal" if he wanted to pay the store still more to replace his phone's back.) So, maybe you can detect a couple of patterns here? Not the best parts, not the best workmanship, and not much accommodation when things go wrong. [... blah blah blah, they replaced the battery with an OK one ...] So, like I said, judge for yourself. These guys are within their rights to contend that "We absolutely have to stick with our 90-day limit, to protect ourselves." Except, that's really just saying they don't really expect their repairs to hold for more than 3 months. Which doesn't inspire much confidence. And in my case, the issue wasn't even workmanship -- they'd just installed obviously defective parts. Had I been on their side of the counter, I would have taken responsibility for the rotten parts, and comped the second repair. My perspective is: They charged me $60 for my initial $35 (quoted) repair, which failed only because they'd bought bad parts. And they wouldn't make a silly 2-week exception to their warranty window -- even though I'd initially given them the benefit of the doubt, and had diligently taken the time to track down debugging equipment before I ever disputed the initial repair. Then, they made me waste time dragging my phone back in yet again, because they'd installed a bad battery and scratched my screen guard. I suspect that too many positive Yelp reviews might have gone to their heads. I don't trust their parts supply, I don't trust their bench technique, and I didn't appreciate their inflexibility. I certainly wouldn't trust any repair here to be one-stop. Even if you ultimately get a working device, it might take you a couple of trips. Next time, I'd look for a repair shop that tests its parts before installing them, and handles its customers' gear with scrupulous care, and compensates for its errors instead of hiding behind a meager warranty period. read more

We had a sim card tray stuck in my i-phone 3, we had tried to put in it the wrong way and we did not want to damage it getting it out. So we went to this shop and the kid in charge yanked and tugged and finally pulled out the tray and broke it. When I asked him why he broke he said you wanted it out didn't you. Then he put my sim card in the broken tray but that didn't work so he gave me a new tray but it still didn't work. He said probably the logic board is broken- I asked him if he thought he might have broken it when he broke the tray and he get very aggressively angry and said are you accusing me? I took the phone to another repair shop and indeed a pin from the logic board had broken off- the technician said looks like someone pulled the tray out too hard!.. now I can't find anyone to repair the logic board ... have to buy a new phone Don't use these folks!! read more

Be careful with the warranty they claim. 24 days ago I had phone a phone repaired as a back up since my sons phone was broken. After deciding to fix my son phone as well (2 repairs with this business in less than 30 days ) I only kept this phone in my car for my daughter to play games on strangely I pulled the phone out the console to let her play we found there's one single crack across the screen. I went in today to see if it can be fixed with warranty and was told the same Apple Store jargon of - that is considered accidental damage. One single unexplained crack without dropping or mishandling the phone nothing in my console could have cracked the phone I was told I have to pay for the screen to be replaced again it wouldn't be covered under warranty. I came in to cash in that warranty as I remember being told "if anything happens to your phone we offer warranty to cover I believe 90 days if I am recalling correctly. So just do not be fooled with this warranty stated if your screen is damaged again. I am disappointed since I cashed out two repairs with them including temper screen on one and even referred a couple friends for their phone repairs and tempered screen (of which the temper screen lifted on one of my friends phones and they said there was nothing they could do). Oh I was offered a $5 discount for a replacement for this repair being damaged in less than 30 days so instead of $60 + tax only $55+ tax. I declined. He fixed the phone in 25 minutes and though we couldn't test it since it was uncharged, when I got home and charged it, it now works perfectly.
