When I checked it via TestDisk on macOS, the HDD appeared as 0 bytes / 0 GiB, indicating a much deeper disk or partition-level issue. It turned out the PCB was damaged, the translator was corrupted, and two heads were misaligned. I don't know how Robert does what he does-- that is not the point. The point is that he is amazing at what he does. I had a challenging case, in which a RAID 0 of four drives in my old desktop computer suddenly vanished from Windows File Explorer. Robert spent a lot of time on this case, and a lot of effort was involved. He told me that the SMART data indicated that there was a temperature-related drive failure, and that the volume may or may not be recoverable. It took a few months, but then he gave me the good news: he had recovered the entire 17 terabyte volume successfully! I took a look at the preview file that he shared, which was a directory tree that was easily understandable. All my old files were on there. These things are irreplaceable and go back 20+ years. Amazingly, I am now transferring 1.5 million old files onto my new workstation from a large external hard drive that Robert provided. The cost was substantial-- however, this is the greatest ever service and Robert also arranged to hand-deliver my drive with a courier right to my office, at no additional charge. Worth the wait, and worth the money. I could not have asked for more, and Robert deserves heaps of praise for how he handled this difficult case. My SSD crashed irreparably (I naively was unaware this was even possible), and Best Buy's Geek Squad was unable to access it to save anything. If your iPhone suddenly can no longer boot up because the storage is full, the employees at Apple will tell you that you have to factory reset the phone. (terrible oversite design by Apple) If you do pay for iCloud your photos and videos are fine. In my case I had not recently backed up my photos and did not want to lose years of photos. I was recommended this place from the people working at Apple because they couldn't do anything for me there. Robert did a fine job of recovering my photographs and videos that were on my iPhone 12. I am not too familiar with the data recovery process, so I didn't know what to expect for how long this would take. It did take longer than I hoped (a little less than a month) but he recovered what I needed. This is a COSTLY procedure but if you were desperate like me and needed to recover photos of close family members that have passed away it is worth it. They provided a fixed price after examining the damage to my phone and an estimated time frame. When they ran into complications, they communicated that to me. TL;DR This company helped me recover 90% of my data from a damaged hard drive from 2010. I had reached out to Kotar in summer 2023 to try to recover data from a damaged external hard drive. I damaged it in 2010 and have just been holding on to it in hopes of one day recovering my memories. I've even gone to two other data recovery centers/companies since 2010 and they said that it was not possible to recover. I decided to give it one more shot with Kotar. They offer a free diagnostic and let you know whether it is possible or not to recover. Color me surprised when Robert said it could be done. I've already had two other people say it wasn't possible and my hopes were slowly dwindling. He provided me a quote and although it was pricey, I felt like I was in a better place financially to take the dive. I can tell you, that it was 110% worth the cost. Robert and his team were consistent with their communication with me. They diagnosed the problem within a few days and gave me a detailed response on the issue with the drive and the plan of action to recover as much data as possible. It took a few months to get get some results. I know they were working hard on it due to the extent of the damage. They provided me with a loaner drive with what they could recover. It took me a week or so to go through the contents and I noticed that I was missing a large chunk of photos. Robert and his team offered to do an additional deep scan to see if they could find anything else. I received the second batch of data about a month later and this set had about 90% of what I was looking for. It took me much longer to go through this data set since there were so many photos. I appreciate that they let me hold on to the loaner drive longer than anticipated. I asked Robert if it was possible to find the remaining 10% of data and he informed me they had done everything in their power to recover all the data and that there isn't anything else he could do. Overall, we did about three iterations in order to find what I was looking for. Although I didn't get everything back, I'm still extremely happy to have recovered 90% of my photos. I'm so grateful to Kotar, they helped me recover photos from an old, damaged external hard drive that was at least 15 years old. I HIGHLY recommend them if you ever need any data recovered. If I ever need this type of service again, I will definitely come back to Kotar. Hopefully never, I've learned my lesson.... I have a two back ups for my hard drives now!
