Bulgogi Bowl Green tea latte
Stella C.

I was craving some brunch so decided to come to the Berkeley Social Club. They have a very diverse Korean-Western fusion menu and will have something for everyone. We especially enjoyed the salmon benedict and the bulgogi bowl. Service was great. We came on a Monday at 11:30 and were seated with no wait. The restaurant is spacious and clean.

Really cool vibes at this place. The servers were very friendly and happy! It's a Korean inspired fusion place - so many dishes to try! We only tried 3 of them - loved them all! The tamarindo was phenomenal!! Can't wait to come back and try more food :) We tried the gooey corn, BSC Bao and K tacos. We asked for some extra spicy sauce and they have that to us - YUM!

Korean fried chicken was good, but could've been seasoned more in my opinion. Gochujang hollaindaise was ok. I am averse to having sauce all over because I'm never sure if it would be great. Lemon ricotta pancakes were delicious, easily one of the best bites of the day. Service was great, ambiance was warm and welcoming. Would return to try other items on the menu.

My second time here. My daughter & I enjoyed ourselves. A treat for me from her for Mom's Weekend This time I got: - 2 Eggs , Millionaire Bacon which comes with potatoes & white toast (I swapped the white toast for English muffin) My daughter got: - Spicy Pork Bowl - Dirty Ube Latte (dirty means espresso added) Pros: - I always like the vibe of this place, just happy staff & customers in a beautiful place with good food. - the staff are very attentive - food presentation & flavor is great Cons: - parking is tough - the restaurant is noisy , so not a pick on an anxious day

Came here for brunch with friends- our party ordered the salmon Benedict, fried chicken, and pumped up ramyun. The salmon Benedict was good though the ramyun was quite salty (as is expected with shin ramen I suppose). Service was courteous. My only complaint was the food took a really long time to come out. Hope to try more dishes here in the future!

Eggs in Purgatory with Toast

Stopped in for a Monday brunch. I tried the eggs in purgatory and their famous bacon. The tomato-based stew was delicious. I wish it came with more than one slice of bread. The candied bacon was also great. The restaurant was pretty loud that day, which made it hard to talk. My dish also took noticeably longer to come out than the restaurant of my table. Otherwise, it was a great meal.

Parking is a little tricky but we were able to find a spot right away! We went on a Sunday so it was really busy around 12-1pm. We put ourselves on the waitlist and the wait was about 30-40mins. I've gotten the Ube latte, and it was pretty yummy but I could barely taste the ube. We waited about 25mins for our food to come out but it was fresh and hot when we've gotten it. It was super yummy! I liked my scrambled bulgogi. It came with potatoes and a slice of toast. Overall I finished my plate! We ordered: Side of Mixed fruits Bulgogi scrambled Tornado Bulgogi Omurice Dirty Ube Latte Hot chocolate (not pictured) The place was really pretty but by the host stand it was very tight. Better to wait outside for your table!

I've been to BSC a couple of times during undergrad, but this was my first visit in a while after coming back to Berkeley! Before going, I would definitely recommend making a reservation in advance. There's usually a line (especially on weekends for brunch or in the evenings), but thankfully I was seated quickly while my friend looked for parking nearby. Now, this isn't the restaurant's fault, but it was LOUD. We happened to be seated next to two very social groups, so it was a bit difficult to hear anything. Which duh, we're in a social club! But I was practically yelling just to talk to my friend lol. Depending on your tolerance, you might want to ask to be seated on the patio, since it can get pretty rowdy inside. As for the food, it was fine. I had been craving BSC's Mascarpone Blueberry Stuffed Crunch French Toast after years of deprivation, while my friend ordered a burger with a side of fries. I'm not sure what changed (or maybe it's just me), but the French toast was much greasier than I remembered (with even less fruit!) Every bite felt pretty heavy, and while I was excited to eat it, I only managed to finish half before tapping out. My friend, on the other hand, finished her plate so maybe a burger was the way to go. I did manage to steal a fry though, which was amazing, so I'd highly recommend that. But I probably wouldn't order the French toast again. All in all, the service was great! The ambiance was a bit loud, and the food was okay. BSC is definitely a must-try brunch spot if you're in Berkeley, but if I go again, I'd probably opt for a different dish from their expansive menu.

Famous for their brunch here, but their dinner is not bad as well appropriate for nice dinners with extended family, atmosphere is pretty and well decorated. I like the pillows on the benches on the side. super creative menu in my opinion fun and colorful and definitely pleasing to the eye with good presentation. The actual quality and taste of the food does not match the concept of the food conceptually but I think is OK for a solid 8 out of 10 experience. bottomless mimosas is also fun (can do at brunch OR dinner!)

Food was good! My friends overall liked their meals. The bulgogi was so yum. The salmon toast was good! Got some drinks as well. My friend said the lychee drink was too sweet. I got the dirty coconut latte and it was really good but it's so pricy for what it is. Overall, I'd come back for the food! Minus a star for service... wasn't the best but they were nice

My 1st time eating from Berkeley Social Club. We had the food delivered and everything was described. We also had the BSC onion soup, it is a large portion with tomato's and mozzarella, served with a side of bread. I liked the food and flavors, I would definitely return here again!

Made a last minute reservation for a Sunday brunch and was seated immediately. Our hotel was within walking distance of the restaurant but definitely plan ahead if driving because parking is limited near the restaurant. Inside is decorated well and makes for a cute brunch spot. Our order was taken relatively fast but the food took a while to come out. Everything was delicious but definitely rich in flavor. Love that the ube latte could be made with no coffee. Would've loved a bit more attentiveness from our server (especially for water refills and the check), but overall enjoyed the restaurant and would come again the next time I'm in town!

Ask the Community - Berkeley Social Club

Do they have gluten free options?

Do they offer Small portions?

Portions are decently large.

Are walk-ins accepted for dinner on weekends? If so, how hard do you think it is to get seating for 5 or 6 people in the early dinner hours, say 6pm on a Saturday?

We are welcome for walk-in. Weekend dinner may take a longer wait. I would recommend you to make a reservation for a big party on the weekend. It would be better. You can make a reservation on the Yelp.… Read more

What gluten-free breakfast or brunch options are enticing?

You think they would let me order breakfast at dinner?

I'm not sure but as they have different menus for brunch and dinner, I wouldn't think so.

Do they require proof of vaccination?

No, but they do ask you to wear your mask until you start eating.

Is bottomless mimosas enjoyable on the weekends with the 60 minute time limit or does it feel too rushed?

Definitely. An hour is generally plenty of time, unless you're looking to drink the restaurant out of business :-)

Is the outdoor patio open on the weekdays for dinner?

There are no outdoor sitting at this restaurant.

Does it allow Dogs at the outside patio?

Sure does. Brought my pooch out there last week...

Do they have bottomless mimosas on the weekends?

Yes they do! But they do enforce a pretty strict 1 hour time window for bottomless mimosas

What Gluten-free options do they have?

Rice bowls with gluten-free sauce upon request, gim-bap, salads, and more

Are dogs allowed on the outside patio?

Yes! Totally dog friendly in the back patio. Tied our pitbull to the bench seating with us. They even brought her a bowl of water.

Are there outdoor TVs?

No outdoor TV

Are there dairy and or gluten free brunch options?

Yes, but limited!

Anyone know what seasoning they use for their eggs and crispy yukon?

Are walk ins accepted?

Yes! There are only walk-ins on weekends, and both walk-ins/reservations on the weekdays. If you do a walk-in on the weekend though for brunch, it can sometimes be a bit of a wait (~30+ min depending on how big your party is)

Do they have vegan options?

Yes!

Anyone know if it's better to go around 10-11am or 12-1pm for brunch? How long is the wait time usually on a Sunday?

It's usually around a 30-40 minute wait around then! :) I would go around 10AM or even earlier to miss the crazy Sunday brunch line.

What other liquor besides beer do you serve? Are there mimosas at brunch on Fridays?

They have a wide variety of cocktails that they serve for dinner including Moscow mules, whisky sours, and margs

Do they serve bottomless mimosas for dinner?

Yes, I just checked. They have bottomless mimosas at dinner for $20 per person for 1.5 hours. Hope this helped!

The bakery itself seems to mainly be a takeout spot, with minimal indoor seating which felt pretty inconvenient given the limited space for customers, however it did seem to serve more of a purpose as a waiting area anyways. The structure of the bakery leaves a bit to be desired as well, as we found the glass display cases as the only form of menu, so being in the front of the line while still deciding what to order caused some unnecessary anxiety. Regardless of those nitpicks, the baked goods themselves were pretty good! Service was instant, and all of the treats looked delicious--it was hard to choose what we wanted! Our favorites were the Thai Tea and Ube Coconut Mochi Donuts. Both had really strong flavors--the Ube in particular was very clear in comparison to most other Ube desserts in my experience. The textures of the mochi donuts were really well done too, with soft exteriors and chewy, glutinous interiors. The same can be said about the Mochi Muffins, though with crunchier parts around the edges. We found the contrast of textures to actually work really well! However, the flavors of the Muffins were lacking a bit--the Red Velvet didn't stand out much, with the frosting tasting a bit too sweet, and while the Five Spice had a really interesting flavor, it was also a bit too sweet, drowning out the more unique citrusy flavor. Overall, however, all four of the goods we had were enjoyable eats, and would definitely return some time to try out other flavors!

We called to get a quote and had a discussion. After we gave the owner all of our information, she told us she wouldn't give us a quote unless we came in person (?!) Which is weird because this isn't how restaurants work. Typically for events restaurants will give you a quote via phone or email for the sake of convenience. We had gotten 3 quotes already from other restaurants via phone. Making us drive 45 mins just to get a quote is a total waste of time. Especially if we can't afford it. So my daughter called again, left a VM explaining we couldn't come in person due to time constraints, and again asked for a quote. No reply. We waited a few days and called again. No reply. Finally we got a voicemail from the owner saying that she didn't like my daughter's attitude ?!!! Apparently you're not allowed to ask this restaurant how much they charge for events unless you're face to face. This lady has absolutely no idea how to run a restaurant. We took our business elsewhere and recommend that you do, too.

Their menu showed items like waffles and croissant French toast, which sounded really promising. I decided to try the croissant French toast and really wanted to like it. The croissant itself had potential, but the egg mixture was very heavy and lacked some of the warm flavors you typically expect in French toast, like cinnamon or vanilla. Even with the berries and syrup, it still leaned very egg-forward. I also ordered a side of bacon for some extra protein, and that was actually cooked really well. For drinks, I tried the strawberry latte with the vanilla bean soft top. I initially expected more of a coffee-forward drink, but it was much sweeter and reminded me more of an elevated strawberry milk. The space itself is cute and gives more of a social, aesthetic hangout vibe than a traditional brunch spot. Parking can also be a bit tricky. There's free parking in the Trader Joe's garage nearby, but it's unclear whether parking there while dining at the café is allowed. Overall, I liked the concept and atmosphere more than the actual food during this visit.

There was no one waiting behind us, but we were met with an inflexible, robotic "sorry, we're closed." No one was overtly rude, but the interaction felt rigid and mechanical, as if following procedure mattered more than acknowledging the people standing in front of them. In the end, Standard Fare is closing exactly as it operated: precise, rigid, and lacking warmth. Hopefully the next business in this location will treat its customers with a bit more empathy.

It's also one of those places that makes you want to stay. The food is consistently fresh, flavorful, and generous. The burgers are loaded and perfectly balanced, the fries are always crisp (never soggy, which is rare), and everything tastes high-quality and made to order. You have to try the chicken and waffles. The waffle batter tastes homemade and the butter takes it to another level... it's one of those dishes you keep thinking about after. I'll even DoorDash it all the way to Jingletown. The patio setup is really well done... there's a mix of larger tables for groups and higher bar-style seating for smaller hangs. The wooden furniture and cushioned benches make it comfortable, and they've got heaters for colder days and umbrellas when it's sunny, so you can usually pick your ideal spot. Cali Alley is one of those places I have looked at thousands of times when trying to figure out…read morewhat to order on Door Dash or Uber Eats. The food always looked really good, but for whatever reason I always ended up ordering from somewhere else. Well, I finally did it. I finally ordered from Cali Alley, and all I have to say is, why did I wait so darn long? Door Dash was having a 2-for-1 deal on the Cali Alley Burger, so I ordered one of those (and got another for free) , as well as on the small mac and cheese, so I ended up with two of those as well. I got fries as he side for the burgers and saved the second burger and mac and cheese for the next day. I also bought a small side of veggie fried rice for lunch later in the week. OK, let's start with the fries ... wow. Super crispy. Don't know what they do to them, but I think I almost ate all the fries that came with one of the burgers before I even touched the burger. The fries seemed to have a coating like some fries do to make them extra crispy on the outside. Whatever it was, it made them so good, I couldn't stop eating them. I was almost too full for the burger. But who are we kidding? If there is one thing I am good at, it is eating more than I should. The burger, which is described on Door Dash as "char grilled, fresh ground brisket and short rib burger, served on a toasted brioche fun with crisp lettuce, tomato onion marmalade and garlic aioli" was thick and incredibly flavorful. I couldn't stop eating that, either. It was that good. I ordered it medium, and it was pretty pink, but it was sooooooo flavorful, and all the toppings worked well together. I didn't get any cheese on it because I wanted to try to burger by itself and not mask it with cheese. I might try adding cheese next time, but honestly the burger is so good, I almost wouldn't want to cover up its flavor with cheese. Oh, I almost forgot. When you order on Door Dash, you can opt to have them include a small side of their chocolate-chipotle bbq sauce, and I highly recommend that you get it. It's a really interesting flavor and is good for dipping the fries in. I didn't try putting it on the burger, but that might be good, too. The mac and cheese was OK. It's important to note that I enjoyed the flavor but it is more of an eggy consistency than a saucy mac and cheese if that makes sense. It has a nice kick of black pepper, which I liked, though. The vegetarian fried rice was also fine but could have used a little salt. All that to say, don't be like me and procrastinate, get the Cali Alley Burger and fries ASAP.
