I got a tire blow out on my way to school and called this place because they have excellent reviews. I received an estimated time of 35-55 minutes "or earlier" for towing service Waited ~45 minutes then called for ETA, person told me the driver is now on the way and is 20 minutes away ~35 minutes went past, called again, and person told me the driver got stuck at a client and is now 15-20 mins away. She Said the driver will call me when they're about 5 minutes out Another ~30 minutes passed, no call from driver, called again and asked for an honest ETA and to try not to say 15-20 minutes away because they said that hours ago over and over. Person on the phone put me on hold for a while then got back and said the driver is pulling up and will call me shortly. ANOTHER 20 MINUTES after they said the driver is pulling up, i called back AGAIN, and this time asking for the drivers number myself. She gave me his number and said his name is margarito. I called him. The first time he picked up he said hello and did not respond to anything I said after, it was silent. Since then, he did not pick up any of my calls. So I'm wondering, was the woman on the phone dishonest about his ETA? Or was margarito lying to the woman I was speaking to numerous times? BOTTOMLINE: NO ONE SHOWED after hours, I was lied too over 4 times about the ETA. Shouts to Andy! I had the pleasure of receiving a tow from Andy after my calls to my roadside service yielded NADA. (Allstate informed me that the best they could offer is sending a tow truck out to my location in FIVE HOURS. Ch'yeah, I'm good y'all... Will def be canceling that expense!) Andy was polite, courteous, helpful and accessible. After hearing my situation, he offered handy local mechanics to get the job done at a reasonable rate and his own expertise. Sorry this guy was awful. All he had to do was drove 1.2 miles to jump a motorcycle. Kind of junior varsity roadside assistance. Instead he did not recognize street corner or numerical address, did not even know if a Harley could be jump started and hung up on me when I agreed to pay him 60$ cash for 5min of work as long as he didn't complain any further about the work. Refused service to me. Seemed disinterested when I initially called to get information about moving my vintage BMW from one garage to another. I thought I had a pretty reasonable request, and he definitely had the prerogative to decline a job (I guess towing is a good business where you can do so), but I don't appreciate a business that 1.) doesn't explain why they don't want to do a job, and 2). being hung-up on after asking for clarity. Andy picked up the phone immediately and said he'd be at the place to tow our car in 30mins and he got there in that exact time. Our insurance couldn't even service us that fast. The earliest would be in 2hrs. The street was small and tight but Andy managed to put our Range Rover on the flat bed with no problem and caused no damage. He towed us 30miles and at a reasonable and honest price. We had great conversations during the ride and he was very friendly. I ended up tipping him extra just for the service and being a good guy. Basically I was having a really crappy day when my engine wouldn't start this morning! However Berkeley Towing really helped me out. The owner was super nice, amicable, and not awkward or mean. Really really helpful and friendly! I highly recommend this business, especially after experiencing bad tow truck companies before. Also they're cheaper than other places as well! After calling numerous tow services and getting voicemail - which, btw this is the next day and NONE of them called back - I called Berkeley Towing and Andy picked up the phone immediately. He told me he could meet me in a few minutes, and he did. It took him about ten minutes to get to me, he carefully got my car on his flatbed without damaging anything ('ve had careless tow people break my car in the past) and took me to my destination. Andy was not only professional, he is a very cool dude - he makes you feel more like a friend than a client (or maybe we just clicked). Afterwards, he even suggested that he could refer me to some good mechanic friends of his if I am not satisfied with the one I went to. would recommend Berkeley Towing to anyone in a heartbeat. read more

My SUV broke down and had to park in an uncertain neighborhood in Oakland, I didn't have money at the moment to get it towed to a mechanic. The next day I called Berkeley Towing, I had service from them before and was very pleased. Andy came down, I had no problems with him, he was fast and very helpful. There I was, trying to make the best of a sad situation. Stranded by my allegedly trusty car at night. My roadside assistance insurance said it would be an hour and a half. But at least it was a safe neighborhood. At least I hadn't been rushing to an appointment. And at least my car had chosen this moment to die, instead of a few days before when I was on a solo road trip, poking around remote desert roads in Nevada and crossing Death Valley. I got tired of this mental litany of what to be grateful for after the first half hour, and thought of trusty Yelp! I pulled out my phone and found Berkeley Towing. Many glowing reviews and a matched set of crank-pots, who seemed best to ignore. The owner himself answered late on a Sunday night. Yes he could get there in 20 minutes, yes he had the flat-bed truck needed for an all wheel drive car, and Yes his price would be reasonable. 20 minutes was inaccurate, he showed up in 15 minutes! Not only that, but he was a really nice and reassuring person. He skillfully and securely maneuvered my car onto the truck in the time it took to call the other company to cancel. On the way to dropping the car near the mechanic I use, I asked if he was returning to his office in central Berkeley as I preferred to call a cab from there instead of waiting in an iffy location. Instead, he took me all the way home, an incredibly kind and unexpected act. If Yelp had 10 stars I'd give them all to Berkeley Tow! read more

He was awesome! I called him early in the morning(like around 9:30ish) and he told me he'd be at my location in 15-30mins(I live close to his business). He was able to get my car out from the parking lot in my apartment complex and took me all the way to Richmond. It was $75 and he was informing me of local areas that could possibly help me. I have warranty for my car and thus had to go to the dealership where I bought it but I thanked him any ways for the advice. He's friendly and it was a pleasant car ride. I would definitely recommend him and if I ever need towing(which I hope won't be anytime soon), I'll definitely contact him. Oh and he accepts debit so that was a huge plus for me since I didn't have cash on me. And just for future reference, don't be mean and ask for the impossible, if he can't do something because its out of his power then oh well, move on and call some other company if you can't deal with it. P.S. He doesn't tow motorcycles. He explained his reasoning and I found them to be valid so if you're looking for that type of services, look somewhere else. read more

Was caught with a car that wouldn't start in the rain; Berkeley Towing was the #1 rated business when I searched, and they were indeed great. Berkeley Towing was there in 15 minutes! If I could give Berkeley Towing no stars I would! My husband was in a car accident and the car was undriveable so we had it towed to our apartment. When the driver arrived he gave him detailed instructions to drop off the car in our reserved parking space. When my husband finally arrived home he was freaking out because the car was not in our parking space. When he called he was informed that the car was dropped off. They were not willing to help him find the car. They kept putting him on hold, and finally he found our car after walking around the parking lot. The drive put the car in the wrong spot resulting in taking someones reserved parking spot. Berkeley Towing refused to come fix their mistake. He finally spoke to a supervisor who hung up on him several times and finally they agreed to send the driver back out for free. We were first given a 1.5-2 hour timeframe. When no one arrived after two hours he called again and was told 3 hours. After 3 hours he called multiple times, and each time he was put on hold and then hung up on. We had to call another towing company to come fix their mistake. The other company couldn't believe the customer service Berkeley Towing was giving so they moved my car for free. Berkeley Towing truly has the worst customer service and has employees who cannot follow directions. Please give your money to another towing company. read more

"Dispatch never called me to update the status of the driver coming to help me. I waited over an hour and a half in Berkeley from 7:40am to 9:20am. I had to constantly keep calling for updates Customer Service was terrible at onetime, I was on hold for 6 minuets straight. Once the driver from another company showed up things got better. The driver was contracted out at 8:55am and arrived at 9:20am. Dispatch never informed me that they had to contract to another company wish they would have it would've made the situation less stressful. I needed a jumpstart for an RV. I called AAA and found that my membership wouldn't cover service for an RV. I upgraded, but they wouldn't let me use the upgraded service for 48 hours, and I had to move the vehicle for street sweeping. They connected me with a towing service in Richmond (very close to where we live in Berkeley). These highway robbers quoted $395 per hour, and said it would cost $900 to come and jumpstart the vehicle. I hung up on them and called Berkeley Towing. He said he could be here in ten minutes and would charge $50. He came immediately and started the vehicle in a couple of minutes with no trouble. He was friendly and helpful, and I took his card and will definitely call him again if I need to hire a tow truck! read more

I was at an event in the Berkeley marina and when we were ready to leave my car wouldn't start. After much help pushing it around the parking lot and trying to jump it I found Berkeley Tow online. It was after 9pm by then but he came right away and loaded the SUV onto his flatbed. My son was with me but he fit us in the cab and drove us to Walnut Creek, navigating the freeway with our heavy load. Not only did Andy take the car to my mechanic, he maneuvered it expertly into a corner spot right in front of the mechanic's shop. He then took us home. Berkeley Towing came through right on time and with great service -- and at half the price of the service I'd used a few days earlier. I highly recommend them. Our car died unexpectedly and left us stranded. We had it towed to one shop via AAA, but then had to have it towed to another shop for a second opinion. The first company was great, but we got sticker shock. When we finally towed our dead car home, we used Berkeley Towing. I called them and they said they would be there in 30 minutes. 29 minutes later, they drove up to the shop and efficiently loaded up the car and took us home. Andy loves his work. He thinks ahead, at lightning speed, asks a handful of pertinent questions, then shows up ready to convert panic and havoc into what will ultimately amount to a pretty good day. My lowered Mazda3 decided it was done with axles, shafts, struts, etc. right in the middle of a tiny residential street. I called my mechanic, who's always good for local, close-personal referrals. Thought I knew whose number to ask for. I was wrong, by about 4x the budget my ins. said I could spend, through them if I didn't mind waiting a couple hours. Pfft. He sent me to Andy with a laudatory "he'll get you out of there fast and won't take you for a rube." Andy's a very good listener: he asked for directions to where I was, which is kind of cool coming from a tow operator. You know they know their territory, but its a good idea to ask anyway, in case of high-drama traffic calmer interference. I forgot to mention that the car is lowered, so maybe wants a flatbed, but lo: that's what appeared, 10min sooner than expected. It was a custom heavy duty Ford converted to a flatbed, and fit neatly on that tiny little street. My neighbors, car guys and contractors, were impressed. I learned a lot about the tow rig, on the ride into the shop. That's the third criteria for earning my lifelong loyalty if hopefully not *too* much repreat business. He's chatty, personable, and inclusive: made me about as smart as I wish I was, about internal combustion, suspension, etc. We were at the shop in record time, not a scratch on my poor collapsed car. I've had good tows before, but he treated my car as if it was his sister's: that really helped me recover what I could from a day full of obligations I couldn't fulfill, 100mi away, not having factored rental car office skulking into my drive time budget. He helped me make the most of what I could, with a smile. That's a pretty great attribute to bring to a job where most transactions are initiated by consumers in panic, feeling betrayed by their equipment and whomever built it, unsure of the expense they're facing or whether their ins. will cover it [Progressive was thrilled. see next sentence.]. There is no one on this planet that likes being HUNG UP ON, but if you are one of those people, call Berkeley Towing. He was so impatient that he couldn't wait for me to walk down the road to find out exactly where I was, and then hung up on me saying that he "didn't want to waste his time," when I was asking questions. These ppl are legit! They actually will be there and save you in any situation!!! Long story short we got ourselves stuck in a bad spot and on a busy ramp. After one tow company came out looked at the situation and just left us there with no answer as to why he couldn't do it. I called these ppl and they came out quick and had us home in under 30mins.
