They sell plants and flowers, but I didn't pay attention to that aspect of their operations. Cold Spring sells some of their own produce, products from other CT Farms and/or Orchards, Cold Spring branded products such as salsa, and other area products such as bread from a local bakery. I bought green cabbage, peaches, celery and salsa. Everything seemed appropriate quality for seasonal CT produce. The produce I didn't buy also looked good and represented what's in season pretty well. I will definitely go back for in season produce since I live in the area. This is an observation as opposed to a criticism. The reason I'm giving Cold Brook 4 Stars rather than 5 Stars relates to the extent of their offerings compared to another Farm Stand I frequently visit that's a bit farther away. That Farm Stand has a wide range of partnerships with high end CT businesses and they have things like high quality bagels, cheeses, pies, cupcakes, ice cream sandwiches, etc. That Farm Stand also has a wider range of canned goods, meats, and dairy products etc. I would travel farther to a Farm Stand like that because there are more products that interest me. Cold Spring will be the place I go for convenience when I want in season produce for a few days.

As they price individually and in sets, you may end up bringing home more plants than planned, but this is a good spot to get it all started. We now have a glorious set of tomatoes in progress, and now a couple extra tomato planters. The double decker wagons all over also help you take home more. The little farm store, extra colorful with its murals, has honey, maple syrup, salsa, and maybe more on down the season. It's neat to see start and end of season at the checkout, and the staff was kind. Thankfully there is extra parking is on both sides of the farm store, in case you're driving East, just look out for wagon traffic on your way through each greenhouse.

""Buying food at the farmer's market Stand in a line, people…read moreeverywhere" (Neil Young) We had a very enjoyable visit to the Southington Farmer's Market yesterday. We found it right on the Village Green where the annual Apple Festival starts. Parking was a non-factor, there were spots all over the immediate area and we snagged a prime spot on the corner of Main and Center Streets. Today was the first day they were open for the season, and the market was full of vendors, and everything seemed to be running like a well-oiled machine. We arrived shortly after the 3:00 opening and everything was already fully stocked and set up. The market was perfectly sized. Not too small, not overpoweringly huge, just about perfect. A leisurely stroll through the booths and stands will take around 30-40 minutes, I loved how the booths were adequately spaced apart so there were no logjams or crowds. The only real crowd we encountered was at Wave Hill Breads with a ten-person deep line of drooling customers. We finished our visit with some Wave Hill purchases. Some of the main categories of vendors included fruits, vegetables, pastries, breads, sauces, salsas, jerkies, guacamole, pizzas for one, soaps, flowers, crafts, straw baskets, honeys and syrups. All of those were enjoyed among a backdrop of live music. We picked up a container of great guacamole from Pop's Famous Guacamole, a wonderful jar of salsa from Angela's Kitchen, two adorable "Eight Ball" squashes from one of the produce vendors, and a bag full of goodness from Wave Hill Breads. Our Wave Hill Haul included a delicious eight-inch cheese pizza, a hunk of Three Cheese Monkey bread, and a beautiful Vanilla Citrus Scone. The vendors were all super friendly and chatty, and the whole afternoon had a very nice community/neighbor-like vibe. We loved every aspect of our visit to the Southington Farmer's Market. PRO TIP The Farmer's Market is scheduled for Fridays from 3-6PM at the Southington Town Green, beginning on Friday, June 20th, and ending on September 26th.

I was able to check it out a bunch of times and it was a nice selection of fruits, veggies, and homemade goodies, including yummy pickles in a barrel and fresh cheeses. I was able to find some unique veggies as well, purple beans and Mexican Gherkins which look like baby watermelons and taste like tiny sour cucumbers, these are my all time favorite, but go early because they will sell out!

I was driving up through Connecticut for a meeting when I stumbled upon this gem. I needed to pick…read moreup some fresh ingredients for dinner but wanted to find a farm stand or market rather than going to a grocery store. I did a bit of searching on my phone to find one that was close to the path I was traveling, I-91. It was also hard since it was a Friday technically "in winter" which is not the best time to get lucky finding a random farmers market. I was super excited and impressed when I pulled up to Garden Farmers Market. Not only do they grow a lot of their products on site in green houses, it was all organic! They have a wide selection of fresh greens they grow on the property. There is also a small dairy, juice and meat section, as well as some packaged products and spices. They had almost everything I was looking for. Unfortunately like most small markets they tend to carry mostly in season produce. It is a great place to find fresh organic produce, would be wonderful for someone who juices or anyone who wants organic food. Since it is hard to buy all organic, I would definitely return to buy the certain fruits and vegetables I choose to buy organic. Best of all I got a jar of raw honey for $5.99and the staff was very nice and inviting to the customers! A few cons: The prices are high (but you have to keep in mind its fresh organic produce) They don't have a scale by the produce so you can gauge what you are spending They are only open fri & sat
