This was our third attempt to eat here and we finally got a seat. The organization of this place is seriously lacking. There is no official host/hostess; it's a person who is cleaning tables so you always have to stand there awkwardly trying to figure out who to talk to. I ordered a Belgium waffle and boyfriend ordered the "Pig Mac Grilled Cheese". Our waitress was great, but we had to wait over 30 minutes for our food...the restaurant was MAYBE 1/3 full. There were two girls who kept trying to find work to do with spray bottles and rags, wiping the same tables and countertops over and over again. One even decided that the appropriate time to use stainless steel cleaner was while people were trying to eat. Other than that, most of the staff were just standing around waiting for orders to come out. At one point, two cooks from the kitchen were out in front talking to the waitstaff. When our food finally did arrive, my waffle tasted like a waffle, no complaints. But boyfriend's sandwich was DISGUSTING. The pulled pork on the sandwich was maybe a 2 tablespoons worth, no sauce, and not even seasoned with salt or pepper. The mac and cheese on the sandwich was actually just macaroni noodles with a slice of melted cheese on top. The sandwich was inedible and looked worse than a school lunch. There are plenty of good brunch places in Billings, this is not one of them. If you do decide to go there and there is a wait, leave! It isn't worth it! read more

My favorite thing from this restaurant is the Monte Cristo sandwich; it's savory-sweet and not healthy at all. The biggest bummer about this place is the menu is dominated by very unhealthy options, would definitely change that if I could. Also, if you go here - I strongly recommend that you sit on the north countrr, and watch the people going to the crystal lounge across the street. Really, really good people watching. read more

Not sure when this place opened but it looks brand new and kind of like an old school diner. The food had an amazing flavor, CFS and the Hash. I thought that for the price the portions were a joke. I might give them a shot again but who knows. read more

Ordered the hot chocolate with chantilly whipped creme and the bison burrito. The bison burrito was good but I wouldn't get it again. The texture of the bison just didn't seem right for breakfast - too chewy, a little on the dry side. The ambiance was great! Beautifully re-done space. Great atmosphere - love the bright, clean 50's diner feel. However, I suspect they will be putting a double door at the outside entrance. It was a really cold day when we had lunch there and each time the outside door opened, the cold rushed in...I think it's situated just right to catch the downtown draft. ooops... Food was good for the price. My husband had a really good Reuben sandwich with fries for $8. For $6 I got more than I could finish with a cup of some spiced up tomato soup (wasn't my favorite) and a very generous Caesar salad - good dressing and not drowning in it. All 3 of the ladies next to us had the Monte Cristo, which the old Golden Belle at the Northern was famous for. They were kind enough to share some of their generous portions. It was good - but I hate to say the one on the Granary bar menu is better.. And, it was served with fires - really? A deep fried sandwich served with fries? Fresh fruit or a salad would compliment it much better. Overall, a fun, noisy atmosphere, and good food for the price - but I wouldn't call the lunch menu anything special. Cute place - very clean, a "diner-diva" vibe, adorable little countertop eating area and nice higher-end nods. I had a 1/2 BLT and some sweet potato fries. The presentation was great! The BLT was good, but not mind altering - the bacon was a little overdone for my tastes - but the sweet potato fries were delicious! There was a hint of vanilla there and I could imagine this recipe in a more upscale joint with a balsamic reduction. Not the 'exact' fries but the flavor of the fries with a more rustic cut. Had a great breakfast this morning. "The Ranch". Biscuits covered with breakfast potatoes, two over easy eggs, sausages, and covered with country gravy. The food was a bit salty but delicious. Definitely a great downtown dinner. It has a nice 1950's feel. I'll come back for sure. read more

Great breakfast place in Billings. The food was very good and the service very friendly. Full but no wait for a Saturday breakfast in November. I've been here a couple of times and I've had the Denver Skillet and the Elk Sausage Skillet. The Denver Skillet was perfect. I wanted to like the Elk Skillet more, but the sausage was a bit dry. Maybe just a bad batch. I was offered four different kinds of hot sauce. I took the El Topo habanero sauce and it was outstanding. It is made in Big Fork and I bought a bottle to go with me. My boyfriend and I have been wanting to try this place for a while and we walked in. My first thought was that this place is absolutely adorable, but when there was only three other tables and it took the waitress almost ten minutes to bring us menus my opinion started to change. There was no host or hostess to seat us and one of the waitstaff took our names and told us it was a 20 minute wait. During that time they seated several groups of similar size who came in after us. Worst service I've suffered through for a long time. Cleaning off a table for our party took forever even though there were open tables. Finally seated but abandoned. Food is good however the staff is poorly trained. It's apparent none of them received education for food safety. Have gone numerous times and staff touches the eating part of the utensils every time they set tables ..... Most recently, a waitress wiped the floor with a rag then used the same rag to wipe down the chef doors .If that is going on in the front , what is going on in the kitchen . Been there twice, first time saw a girl set the table with her fingers touching the silverware on the wrong ends. Second time, same thing and observed a girl wipe up a mess on floor and then wipe doors down where staff touches to go in and out. Table had food stuck in the crack between another table. Why use a wash rag instead of disposable wipes? Who is teaching these kids about cross contamination ? I can't go back,even tho the food is fairly good. read more

Had a large party, diner was accommodating and not one person had anything bad to say about the service or the food. In fact, they all said it was the best meal they had in the trip. The menu was diverse with a buffalo wrap, veggie wrap, Captain Crunch French Toast (I couldn't resit that=yummy), standard of pancakes, eggs, sausage. Fruit cup is $5. French toast $9 But I loved the diner feel they have created here. Diner bar stools, clean, white, airy feel. Everything is very funky, from the cotton napkins, silverware and plate-ware to the ice cream soda fountain. Seating brings diners into contact with other diners. (I personally love this, but if you are wanting privacy, choose the counter.) Big windows to bring the Big SKY indoors. Cant wait to try the lunch menu. read more

Came here for lunch one day. First of all the service was poor. When we were finally seated it took our waitress forever to come back to take our orders and even longer to bring the food. And it wasn't even busy that day. There were several empty tables. My friend ordered a simple burger add chili. He was given a burger and a bowl of chili and charged $2. Like seriously??? The burger was dry and lacked flavor. I ordered the meat loaf which was pretty good. Even though we didn't complain about the service, the manager could see we weren't happy and gave us a free dessert which was not good. She could have kept the stale rice crispy treat and not charged us for that nasty chili. Will not return. read more

I was really disappointed in Bernie's. We were visiting Billings from Nevada and were looking for something unique and delicious. With their selection of gourmet waffles and pancakes we knew Bernie's would deliver. We arrived and were told it would be about 5 or 10 min for a table, that turned into 25 min. Once seated it took quite a long time to get coffee. After looking at the menu we decided on some of their savory waffles and pancakes. Upon ordering we were told that they were all out of pancake batter because of the holiday weekend and no delivery truck. We steeled for the bison burrito and the chicken fried steak. It took 90 min for our food to come out to us and it was so-so. My husband enjoyed his bison burrito but I felt the chicken fried steak was ok. The gravy was bland and the chicken fried steak was too thick and very tough & dry. Definitely not what we were hoping for. When I asked our server what ingredient they were missing to make the batter (I was intensely curious) he informed me they had the ingredients, they were just so busy that there was no one to make the batter. We came out to MT on a hunt and flew in and out of Billings. The night before we flew out, we stayed at the Doubletree downtown. The Saturday morning of our flight we searched Yelp for a place to eat breakfast and found Bernie's. It's right downtown and had good reviews. We showed up just before 9:00 am and had about a 5 minute wait. We got a barstool seat that overlooked the street. The counter was plenty deep and the stools comfortable. I got the elk skillet and she got the French toast. Both were excellent. Also loved the coffee which is served in an oversized mug which was cool. Definitely coming back. Even if the food was good, the portions were tiny for the prices. This was by far the worst dining experience that we have had in Billings. Our flight was cancelled so we ended up here. We had been up since 3a.m. And it was approaching 9:30 so we were starving. You would think that would mean whatever we had would taste fabulous....but the best I can say it was it was just "ok". I had the Traditional, scrambled eggs with bacon, and English muffin and home fries. Everything was cooked well, pretty bland but not terrible. My husband had the Denver Skillet, again just ok.
