My lovely wife life loves this place. I find it annoying as every time I go in to the store, I find the same dirt or trash tucked in the corners like they simply don't 'deep clean' the place. I get it's a plant store, so I try to just let it go... they have a ton of plants, bushes, trees and helpful people working here. I purchased a tree & paid for delivery & installation. I was to be present for the install. They came on my property without my knowledge and installed a weeping willow tree very close to power lines. I know nothing about tree installation and I had hoped to have a conversation about the best site. When I attempted to rectify the problem, they said I would be charged another installation fee & delivery fee. The lady I spoke with hung up on me twice. read more

I have been coming to Berns for many years. They have been a very good company to deal with... They have a very good selection of everything you need to get your house going in the Spring... I have always found their employees to be knowledgeable about their products, which is key when you are not a green thumb, but you want to do projects yourself. The only thing I have never understood is how they can keep their doors closed till 9:00 a.m. on Saturday mornings... If this were my business I would certainly open by 7 but no later than 8... I always forget that and once again I find myself in their parking lot at 8 o'clock with dozens of cars here like myself having to wait an hour for them to open their doors... read more

Been purchasing my grass seed here for the past two summer for $150.00 per 50 lbs. Purchased 200 lbs in 2017 and 100 lbs this season. As of two weeks ago they raised the price by $50.00 so now it's $200.00. Asked if they would sell two bags at $175.00 per bag and she would not even meet half way. Very disappointed and will be purchasing my grass seed at a different business even if it's $200.00 a bag. read more

This place has excellent selection and knowledgeable staff, but it is NOT cheap. If you're looking for the type of plant you can find at places like Lowes, etc., then go there and save about 50 - 75%. But if you're looking for something unusual, go here. I strongly recommend looking at the "clearance" aisle, which is somewhat hidden. You can find some gems there at 50% their usual price. NOTE: The first time I shopped here, I did notice an extra-scary bug at the checkout line who was trying to hitch a ride home with me - so be sure you're not taking anything FROM Berns that you don't want to take with you... such as ultra-scary bugs! Even the checkout girl was freaked out by it. read more

A true nursery! If they don't have it it's likely won't grow locally and you don't want it anyway. The staff is dynamite, they know their stuff! If it is not flowering walk away! Last fall I stopped in to look around. I like daylilies and they had several I did not have. I do not normally buy them unless they are flowering, you just do not know. But I'm at a 'reputable' garden store so I took a chance. I expected to get what they said it was, I'm not in Walmart. Well jokes on me. I got a common yellow daylily not the yellow with a green eye (Siloam Amazing Grace) I purchased. When I called to ask about it Chris said they did not have any of those left. She also said she's was not aware of any daylily that was green. She did offer to give 1/2 my money back if I brought in the plant and my receipt. Nice, plant is labeled wrong and it will only cost me 1/2 my money and 7 months to find out. I gave them a 2 because the other plants I bought that day are growing no idea on color yet, will not hold my breath. If it is not flowering walk away! read more

Berns is my absolute favorite local garden center. They have an awesome selection and regularly have cool new plants you just don't see everywhere else. Everyone is super friendly and knowledgeable and I never leave empty handed. I contracted with the landscaping division of this company last summer for a much-needed redo of my property. I had bought beautiful and healthy plants from the garden center in the past, and had seen the big selection the company had to offer. I wanted to use a locally owned business to do the work, so I didn't even shop around. I wish I had! While the landscaping treatment is lovely to look at, many things that I was told would be done were not. And calling and emailing for customer service is useless. Even general questions about plant care are ignored. Apparently $2K+ is not enough of an expenditure to make me a valued customer. I had additional landscaping planned for this summer, but when I get it done, it won't be by Berns Landscaping. read more

A gardener's paradise! Berns is located in the bare expanse of land that stretches between northern West Chester and southern Middletown. You can see the grounds that the nursery grows most of its plants on from 75N, billboards advertising the center dot the fields. Bern's had over three acres of greenhouses that showcase beautifully colored flowers and other varieties of plants. Bern's offers plenty of landscaping materials for sale and also professional landscaping consultations and services to help make your yard gorgeous. I'm not much of a gardener myself but I love the huge gift shop at the garden center. In the shop you can find great lawn ornaments (classy ones, not lawn gnomes!), birdbaths, outdoor mobiles, and fountains. The store also stocks fertilizers and products to help even the most homely garden grow. Berns has been known to donate to local schools and help with Poinsettia Christmas fundraisers; they are a great addition to the community! read more

Great selection, but In my opinion, extremely over-priced. For example, exact same bag of potting soil is literally 1/2 price at Lowes, etc. I'm ok with paying a little extra to go to a true nursery, but their prices were a little ridiculous. Even Delhi Nursery, about 5 miles away, is still cheaper. However, I needed water garden plants, and this place was really my only option. Oh, and their "Bern's Bucks" of course are only good for months where you're pretty much not going to plant anything, whereas the others you will get postcards in the mail to save x amount off when you spend x...much better deal. read more

I am not a skilled gardner and went to Bern's today for some ideas on container planting. I was looking around the nursery when Helen, a Bern's associate, asked me if I needed help. She was great! She gave me great advice on types of soil for container planting and also showed me some of the vegetable plants that they had ready for planting. When I decided to purchase some things she got me a cart, loaded the items onto the cart and asked if she could assist with anything else. The ladies at the checkout register were equally helpful asking if I needed help getting things to my car. The nursery is very clean and organized beautifully. The plants look fresh and healthy. The staff could not be more helpful and friendly. It is actually a large nursery with green houses and a very lovely gift shop. I will be back! read more

We went to the Beavercreek store to get advice regarding what type of ground cover to use on our hill that is in shade. They said that they would send someone out from their other location. A few days later an employee from the other store did come out. He didn't not seem very knowledgable or interested in our problem. He did say that he would go back to the store, research our problem and send us a letter with suggestions. He said the letter would also have an estimate for the labor to put in the plants. This was about a month ago and we never heard back from him. What a waste of our time. We used to like to visit the store but no longer. read more

In looking for a company to work with on our landscaping needs my wife and I came upon Berns. The owner, **** *****, came to our residence looked around for a few minutes, walked away and told me he would have some things back to me within a week or two. He didn't take any pictures or any measurements, so I said I would send him all of that, including the plat map. It has been 3 plus weeks of us waiting, and not getting our landscaping done (a huge issue since we have delayed doing any landscaping) and we still have even yet to hear from anyone at Berns, except for a a very nasty message from **** ***** eluding to the point that he didn't care if we were frustrated with it taking so long and that if we didn't like it then tough **** (after I called and left a message about asking for an update and telling them that I was frustrated it was taking so long). Since this guy is the owner and obviously doesn't care about customer service at all, it says a lot about this company and how they will respond or take care of their customers. I guess Mr. Berns doesn't care, but I wanted everyone to know how bad this experience has been and if you expect at least halfway decent response or customer service avoid this company. It is shame to, because they were so close to our new home and their landscaping center was very nice...but that is not even near enough to overcome their lack of professionalism and caring for their customers. read more

The only good thing about Berns is the plant material. We had Berns install the landscaping at our new home. The soil around the house was really heavy clay and I requested that the beds be amended substantially before planting, but this never happened. I have replanted some of the plants and they are completely root bound because the holes weren't dug big enough and there was no good soil in the holes. Some of the plants have actually been pushed out of the ground because the holes were so tight. They came out 2 years in a row to replant some grasses that were planted around our pool fence. I again dug some of them up to replace ones that had died and found that Bern's had planted these grasses in 100% pea gravel that was left along the fence after the pool deck was installed. NO dirt at all!!!! No wonder they kept dying. wHAT KIND OF BUSINESS DOES THAT???? I have spent countless hours replanting and amending the soil so I can get things to grow. These are just a few of the examples of poor quality planting and doesn't even begin to address the problem with them getting back to me to answer questions about when they are coming, etc. Phone call after phone call goes unanswered. I will NEVER use Bern's again, and I make sure I tell all my friends not to either. read more
