Sweet little neighborhood coffee shop with exceptionally good food. It's different than the other coffee shops around because it actually has a decent breakfast and lunch menu. I went on a Sunday morning around 10:30a and the place was packed! It surprised me. This location has changed hands many times over the years, but I think this current owner has a good thing going. Don't expect fast service. You order your food and beverages at the counter, then take a seat and wait for a server to bring your food. Because each sandwich, waffle, and coffee drink is custom made, you will be waiting. Often if you are a party of 2-4, each person gets their order at a separate time depending on what is made. I watched this happening today; I noticed one customer get their waffle, and by the time the second order came out, the first person had almost finished their meal. Surprisingly, I didn't see people get frustrated or impatient by this, so clearly the expectations have been lowered and the loyal patrons are okay with it. I also noticed a group of young men (likely NU students) who all came together, and ordered specialty coffee drinks, e.g. lattes, cappuccinos, mochas, etc. They patiently waited by the counter while all the drinks were custom made by hand. No fancy schmancy high tech speedy espresso machines like they have at Starbucks. Again, all seemed quite patient to wait. I finally decided to order my drink, a Cafe Vienna. It was absolutely decadent with a perfect topping of thick whipped cream. It was worth the wait. I look forward to trying their menu of sandwiches, bagels, and waffles. read more

Berry Pike is the perfect local spot to stop for breakfast in Evanston. It's located on Davis in the heart of town and has amazing steamed sandwiches and baked desserts. They also have awesome smoothies, coffees, and fast snacks. I recommend enjoying your meal on their outside patio and taking in the neighborhood. This is a cute coffee shop in Evanston. Decor is not the newest but it has a nice rustic feeling. I got the Sunrise Everything bagel. It's pretty decent. The bacon was not crispy though, to my sadness, but they do stuff it with ham and cheese as well. It's about $7 which is a little bit expensive compared to, say, New York delis but you can take what you can get in Evanston! Service was good. read more

My Trop Bon sammie which had turkey, bacon, smoked cheddar, cream cheese and some veggies took me by surprise in a good way. I don't know why I expected it to be reminiscent of those frozen Jimmy Dean egg sammies. This was even better. The ingredients were fresh and the everything bagel which they were piled in between had a great chewy texture. They piled the ingredients generously, which is always a plus in my book. I thought a side of fries would've complemented my sammie, but unfortunately they only offer chips. It's counter-service. They will bring your order to you (at least when we visited). I must say that was the most delicious Carmel mocha latte I've ever had, and the breakfast sandwich was yummy too. Me and my girlfriend were looking up brunch places and came across this place. At first I thought this place would have something similar to batter and berries. So when we walked in I was a little confused because most of what they serve are sandwiches. When I asked the owner about breakfast they said they serve the original Belgium Waffle, so we decided to give it a try and let me tell you we were not disappointed!!! It's a bit pricey but worth it! I've been back 2 times since, and each time the Liege waffle has been a little different. While there was a magical mixture of batter and sugar the first time, the last two times the waffles have tasted more like bread with a little bit of that incredible pearl sugar. Seems like there is some inconsistency with the batter. On a positive note, I found a bagel sandwich that I like, which is the RHONDA ON THE FLY, which is a breakfast sandwich. Sooooo, I got the Sunrise, the Quentin and the Nutella waffle.i was feeling a bit indulgent and wanted a sandwich for later. Surprisingly, the food was not WOW! I hate to say it, but the breakfast sandwich needed some type of spread. Was too plain. The pastrami and corn beef (Quentin) was better, but not at all what I expected. Lastly the Nutella waffle, I added almonds. It was also very basic. The waffle wasn't very sweet, and tha texture was not like a Belgium waffle. The coffee was good and strawberries were fresh--hence two stars. The food was a disaster. I got a waffle, and it was like taking mouthfuls of stale waffle and clumpy sugar with each bite. I've had liege before and I guarantee there were no huge balls of sugar and the waffle should not taste stale. The egg was atrocious. They said it was scrambled, but it was rubbery and cold. It looked like one of the Kraft singles slices of cheese that has the winkles of plastic on it. I'm not sure how the meal could have come out so fast and both been cold if it had been fresh. I think they "cook" using the microwave. Easily the worst breakfast experience I have ever had. Do yourself a favor and spend the same amount of money at another, fancier, tastier place. read more

Oh yes yes the Mrs and I we love Berry Pike. Liège waffles are great here and when they put down the strawberries they put many even behind the whipped cream where you wouldn't see them upon first presentation but wham, as you're eating, there they are, like a gift just for you. They offer aeropress coffee which I've never seen offered elsewhere. The decor is a liiiiittle discombobulated (eg, paintings are askew and what is with that green loading bar sticker?) but that fireplace is nice and because it's electronic, is always on in any weather. Great little spot to read, with the sofas there, and the cafe is a very nice size as a whole. Good hours and doesn't shut down too early. read more

Great low key spot with pleasant ambience. You can sit inside on the tables,stools facing window, or couch area. Also has small outdoor seating area. Bagel sandwiches and waffles are the main items on the menu which is good enough for me. I had the bagel with sausage cream cheese eggs and jalapeños it was great and the coffee was also solid. I don't know how long they've been there I was just passing by in need of something to start my day and I got what I was looking for.
