Totally cute tiny cafe. Came here for breakfast. Ordered original French toast and side sausage . I ordered the coffee . It's just Folgers or something . Slight coffee flavor. They seem to be geared towards pancakes. Cash only place . Which is odd in 2025, right? Very small town cafe vibe. Very different prices compared to what I saw online , but not outrageous? I guess. The bananas foster French toast seems intriguing? But also seems like , a lot. Something to share, I'm thinking . Sausage was really tasty. Maybe some local brand? French toast was standard. It was good. Syrup was just sugar. Not proper maple syrup, it's not that good. This place is without frills, service is very much take your order, deliver your food and we are done. It's not fancy! The wheat pancakes are actually pretty decent then they give you this ? questionable maybe margarine? and crappy syrup with it. My husband and I just found this place last week and we've already recommended it to a couple people. The tamale pancakes were a noble try but not sure if they were correctly executed. 06/18/20 - After walking just over 5 miles this morning @ The Skokie Lagoon my sis & I decided to grab a bite to eat. She went onto Yelp & found The Original Green Bay Cafe on where else Green Bay Road in a Winnetka. They just re opened up for business about 2 weeks ago and are taking carry outs. They also have a few tables for outdoor dining. My sister & I are both looking to lose weight so we split an order which worked out good. We split a Ruben sandwich, which is not the most healthy, but it is a smaller portion & it proved to be more then enough. The Ruben came w/rippled potato chips (again not too healthy) & a dill pickle. The server was extremely friendly & helpful. The Ruben was pretty tasty. They had a lot of other items on the menu that definitely peaked my interest. I will be back again in the near future. read more

Had a breakfast meeting here. Really a homey place. Only about 10-15 tables. A few wooden benches and booths. It made it nice for a business mtg. Service was outstanding. Always a coffeee refill without asking. I had a classic benefit. The ham slices are huge and super tasty. A little sweet and the right amount of saltiness. Friendly, attentive service! 4 important tips for you: 1) cash only!!! I can't believe I didn't catch that upon Yelping, so this caught me by surprise when our bill came. To my husband who never carries cash: you're welcome! 2) MUST ORDER the corn cakes! In looking back at the menu, I don't see it, so I don't know if it's only available some of the time, but this dish was savory, cheesy, comforting, and I would order it again in a flash! It got kudos in the Chicago Tribune. It's a stack of 3 or so griddle cakes with corn baked into the batter and comes out piping hot, with cheddar cheese melted on top and served with sour cream and homemade salsa. I'm drooling. It far exceeded my expectations! It was a savory brunch dish I never knew I was missing from my life. 3) Empty your bladder before or after your visit, unless you're ok with a super tiny bathroom! This is a very intimate space - there were about 10 tables, and everyone is pretty scrunched in with one another. It feels very neighborhoody, in the wooden paneling, local decorations, chalkboard "specials" menu, and overall community vibe. They were very busy the day we went on a weekend, but we were seated and served quickly. The food choices are quite varied with some traditional diner food and some Mexican-inspired breakfast foods. The portions were a bit small, but tasted fresh and home made - you don't feel heavy or overly full when you leave this place. Another plus, the prices were not exorbitant like so many places have become. The staff were, for the most part, very friendly there. I do have to note though, that a family left, and one of the managers or owners of the restaurant, made it very clear how irritated she was with the mess they left behind. When I first stepped in, they have a sign that says please wait to be seated. After standing for awhile with no acknowledgement, I asked if I could seat myself. The space is very small and cozy. In fact, I did not realize it at first but the bathroom is behind the counter. There are two menus, the hard copy and the chalk board, both feature a nice mix between traditional and spins. My friend opted for the winter pancakes which featured cranberry and orange zest with powdered sugar on top. I had a bite to see, if you like tart, they are enjoyable. He was torn on whether to go full size or small, 3 or 2 stack, he opted for small 2 stack and was unable to finish as the cakes are as big as your plate. I opted for Ricos tacos, basically chorizo egg corn tortillas with green salsa. They come with home fries. I noticed the home fries side runs approx 3.50 and the sliced avocado side runs 2.50, so I asked if I could sub the avocado because they are tacos after all. I was told no, the only thing I could sub out was two slices of tomato. I was wandering the streets of Winnetka, looking for a restaurant that wasn't part of a national chain, when I luckily stumbled into The Original Green Bay Café. It is a tiny place, only nine tables (I counted!) and a counter, where I chose to sit. It was a weekday lunch hour, and the restaurant was busy. I maneuvered my way to the end of the counter, as far as I could get from the traffic flow, and looked over a menu written on a blackboard. This place looks like it's been here forever. It really is a hole in the wall. Had I not been on foot, I probably would have passed it. It looked like only one woman was working the restaurant, and she was busy. She poured coffee for me right away, though, and took my order sooner than I thought she might. I ordered a vegetable skillet,2 sunny side up eggs, no cheese, with English muffins. The food arrived quickly, and was at the perfect temperature. I was pleased to see that the portion size, while generous, was not the Paul Bunyan size of skillets you see at many other restaurants. The only complaint I would make, and it's a minor one, is that the skillet was so full, it was hard to eat without some of the contents spilling out onto the counter. Otherwise, the skillet was loaded with vegetables and potato, heavy on the vegetable. That was a pleasant surprise. In some places, the contents might be 90% potato and 10% vegetable. In this restaurant, that ratio was reversed, to my immense satisfaction. I love love love vegetables. The coffee was a little on the bitter side. I drink it black, so I do notice that sort of thing. Maybe it had been sitting for a little while, though with the volume of business, you'd think coffee wouldn't get a chance to sit for long. I prefer a lighter roast, so other people may very well think that the coffee is 100% perfect. This café is cash only. I don't know if there's an ATM nearby, but assume there must be. The restaurant must be packed on the weekends. It was very busy on a Thursday lunch hour. The Original Green Bay Café was a lucky find. My friend got the nutella crepes and they weren't bad, but not worth $16. This is a very small place, so you would assume they know their regulars. We were not told it was cash until we pulled out our credit cards, and no signs are up clarifying. We were told there is a Chase ATM if needed, but who would think a breakfast cafe wouldn't take card? And to not tell us at all when we were the only ones in there? It was just disappointing. Thankfully, there was an open table available near the window for us. I ordered the traditional eggs Benedict, my husband ordered the Ringo tacos, our little man had the scraps. My eggs Benefict was average at best, while my husband's tacos were more original and flavorful. Think Mexican breakfast tacos. Side note: the coffee was incredibly delicious.
